    Espresso and baguette
    Mike B.

Finally, a local place that knows how to serve an espresso. One of my favorite things to do in a city is go for a walk and stop for a coffee or espresso and maybe a small bite to eat. Today I stumbled upon Razava Bread Co. on Grand Ave in St Paul. I ordered an espresso and a baguette. The espresso was served perfectly in an appropriately sized ceramic cup alongside a shot of seltzer water. As it should be. The baguette was crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. It's the closest thing I've found to an actual baguette this side of the Seine. As it should be. The vibe was low-key and neighborly with plenty of seating and windows to let in the morning light. Perfect for people watching and enjoying a slow winter morning. Also, as it should be.

    Shakshuka

This was my first time here and I wish I grabbed some bread for home. I saw everyone getting the Jerusalem bread and I wish I tried it?? I've never heard of it. I had the shakshuka (small) and it was to die for. I've never had it before but after I had it, I wanted to learn how to make it at home because I loved it so much. I wish it came with more bread. I'm sure I could've ordered more but by the time I needed more, the line was incredibly long. I've heard they run out of bagels on the weekends by the late morning so I'd suggest coming early. Seating is limited for this popular neighborhood spot. Also had the bagel with salmon and it was delightful. The outside of the bagel is quite tough but the inside is sooooo soft. Seriously, next time I'm here I'm leaving with stuff for home - including some of that cream cheese.

Unique bakery! We really enjoyed the bread and the bagels! The jerusalem bagel is sooo big! It was good, and we'll definitely good back!

Razava is sourdough heaven for those looking for that characteristic tang. I've been there twice, most recently 5/31 (Saturday). They offer great drip coffee and other caffeine-inna-cup, but we come here for bread. I recommend getting their San Francisco and porridge loaves (they even had samples when we were last there). Your mouth will get a workout if you go the bagel route, which most argue that's a good thing (I'm inclined to agree as long as my jaw doesn't hurt afterwards). I recommend the lovely nutty Jerusalem bagel. I'd recommend passing on the tahini biscuits, very chalky. Their shakshuka is just good. I'd love it if they started offering toast flights so we could try all the breads they offer. Bathrooms were clean and shared with the Japanese restaurant next door. Parking is free on street but it can get pretty crowded since it's a popular area.

This cafe is light and airy with delicioussss bales, bread and coffee! I ordered their smoked salmon bagel, one of their most popular menu items and it was SO GOOD. Literally bursting with flavor. And when I was sitting outside something fell from the sky and plopped in my drink, and they made me a new latte, no questions asked! delicate without being boring. actually, it's wildly tasty for how delicate it is. I love honey walnut shmears but too often are they too sweet - not this one! Food came quickly and it's a pretty location. Gorgeous lighting (as you can tell from the photos) I highly recommend!

Oh we got some competition now on grand avenue! This place is . Service was so quick. Got there at 11am. Jerusalem bagel and cream cheese, chai tea came out within 1 minute of me ordering. Cream cheese and bagel were amazing. Great price. Staff is extremely friendly to the point where the New Yorker in me was suspicious. Can't say enough good things. Super cute interior. If I lived here I definitely would work remotely at one of the tables, or stop by regularly in the mornings for a latte.

Razava is an amazing addition to Saint Paul. Their breads and bagels are delicious, and they really nail it on the old-world naturally fermented style. Yes, the crust is thick and chewy, and they bake the loaves darker than other local bakeries -- but in my opinion this puts their flavor and texture a notch above the competition. At the bakery, service is quick and the interior has fun cafe vibes. Get some cookies for the road, too.

Razava has been very popular since opening, so be sure to get there early to be sure the items you want to try are available! The Jerusalem bagel with za'atar olive oil and lebnah was so simple yet tasty - the bagel was chewy and the nuttiness paired so well with the tangy cheese and rich oil. The whitefish toast was also fantastic - the bread was not the star in this dish, but the fish and avocado were rich and satisfying. Seating is first come first served, and orders came out quickly from the kitchen. It is really wonderful to have such a lively bakery here in Saint Paul.

Razava House bread. Soft center, very crispy and chewy crust. A little tough for the bread knife and the crumbs were a-flying.

Contrary, coming into the intimate home shop in Saint Paul hit different. As a Saint Paul girly, I absolutely adore small businesses. Marc Heu has a great location across from the co-op on Dale. Due to the pastry lineup altering so frequently, there are no signs detailing the pastry product so there is definitely interaction with staff members to ensure you are getting what you want. The staff is attentive, dressed in uniform and ready to take orders with a note pad upon arrival. Fortunately both days I have went, there were no lines but I also understand lines are common here which is something to be aware of. Inside there are small circular tables to enjoy your pastry and or coffee in. I would not recommend bringing a laptop as this is a tiny shop with an emphasis on eating, mingling and departing. Other reviews will dink stars because they will say the pricing is high however, I think, the pricing is reasonable giving the high quality of baking effort and the quality of service provided. In addition, this is not a spot to come 24/7, rather, special moments such as a birthday, holiday or celebration. With that, I feel like the price is justified. Line or not - the pasty variety is outstanding! My husband and I had a donut with a spiced icing and some other filling and every bite we kept saying yum or oh my gosh this is so good. Inspired from France, you will 100% feel transported as the shop itself resembles France from the interior and obviously the baking follows suit. The display case is the center of attention when you walk in. I highly recommend stopping when in Saint Paul or purchasing at a coffee shop should you happen to see the line of Marc Heu. There are a few other stores in the area, otherwise, Grand Avenue is right up the road should you want to make a day of supporting local. Saint Paul is so lucky to have a slice of France in our city. Thank you!

All of the donuts here are wonderful - there is a large selection of cake and raised donuts, with different flavors rotating throughout the year. I have ordered 2-3 dozen to bring into work multiple times, and each time I get questions and remarks on how fresh and delicious they are. If I am in the mood for savory, a personal favorite of mine is the breakfast croissants: warm and oozing with cheese, ham, or spinach! Although my go-to is the chocolate croissant; I eat it almost weekly! The bakery also makes and decorates special occasion cakes. I recently ordered a Princess Torte for a friend's birthday, and it was a hit! I always feel welcomed at this bakery, no matter how busy or quiet a day it is. You can truly feel the love and warmth (and smell the deliciousness!) of the staff and community that frequently return as regulars. The prices are some of the best around, too!

I popped in this morning to get 2 1/2 dozen cake donuts for a work event and had lovely and quick service. Donuts here are still super cheap which is amazing! There are lots of other baked goods to try here but I am so loyal to the cake donuts that I rarely want to venture out of my comfort zone.
