Our food was incredible! When you walk in you order and pay right at the counter and then they bring your food to your table. We got the biscuits and gravy, pig's eye breakfast and with a single pancake. The maple bacon butter was divine with the pancake and the biscuits and gravy was a different approach compared to your traditional biscuits and gravy and we loved them! Service was great, restaurant was clean and my coffee was also very good. I don't think they have a parking lot so you do have to park on the street and pay for a meter but there were plenty of spot when we stop by. read more

I love the buttered tin so much!! Their cinnamon rolls and breakfast burrito are my go to. I think everything is made with locally sourced ingredients, which is an amazing way to support our community. It's a cute little breakfast stop on the weekends. They are usually open until 3pm. It's street parking! Don't forget to order at the counter, then sit down and wait for the 10/10 breakfast. read more

The Buttered Tin has a great selection for brunch. I ordered the Pig's Eye Breakfast. It included two eggs any style, a meat selection, hash browns, and I subbed my wheat toast for a biscuit. The biscuit was good but not nearly as traditional as I would have hoped. It didn't have a traditional biscuit flavor or consistency. I was a bit disappointed but the breakfast was good. The service is order at the counter and it's delivered to the table. It's not full table service. I didn't mind - the staff was really friendly. I enjoyed my meal. I'd go back to the Buttered Tin again! read more

Visited 6/14/26. Haven't been to the Buttered Tin in a while but was so glad I did a post- St. Paul farmers market brunch with friends here. They were working really hard to get people to tables which was appreciated. You order at the counter so it may be worth looking up the menu in advance if you have a hard time, making decisions. Great variety of drink options as well. You can't go wrong with the scratch kitchen and I honestly feel like you could get anything on the menu and have it be good. On this occasion, I got the Caribbean grain bowl. I thought it was incredibly flavorful with a fun mix of textures-would definitely order again. My friends are also very happy with their respective meals, and one of my friends recently told me that she has been back two times since. read more

Great location, decent food, and overall a fun breakfast spot to go to. When first arriving it can be a little confusing as you order at the counter and then seat yourself with a number. This isn't explicitly stated anywhere though so I can see how it can get you turned around like the other reviews state. Staff at the counter was super friendly and very open to suggestions though so that's a plus. We brought my niece here for a "birthday brunch" on here 21st and overall had a great time. The inside of the shop isn't anything to write home about but it's cute and great for the atmosphere we were looking for. More of a chill vibe where you can hang out and talk, think cute coffee shop meets diner type vibe. The food was good, not amazing, but still pretty decent. A little bit speedy for what you get. in my opinion but overall pretty good. I got the biscuits and gravey which maybe had a little too much greens added on top. It messed with the texture of the rest of the dish but the flavor was there and overall I enjoyed it. All in all a solid breakfast spot. A little bit spendy, but feels pretty in line with a more traditional sit down restaurant pricing these days. read more

Went to The Buttered Tin in St. Paul after volunteering nearby. We had a great experience! The staff were dealing with a really awful situation left behind by another customer, but they handled it with so much grace! I ordered breakfast (served all day) and the sunflower toast...OMG! Star of the show! The entire meal was hot and fresh. Then we hit the bakery. I've had their frozen rolls before, so I knew the caramel rolls would be good, but it was even better than expected. Also shared a peach hand pie and loved it. Will absolutely be back. read more

Mmmmmmmm yum. Met up with a friend to catch up over some brunch and left with that feeling you get from a warm smile, a good hug and a good meal. @thebutteredtin was on my to do list for a looong time and man was I missing out. Here's what we had: Favorite Thing: Cinnamon Roll with cream cheese frosting. Wow. Probably the best I've had in years... maybe ever. Buttered Tin Hash. Once you mix it up with all the flavors and chili crunch.... Whoa. Really good and unique. Will crave this dish again. Side of French Toast. I'm a sucker when it's made on fancy bread. Walleye Cake Benedict Iced Latte & Iced Chai were both awesome There were more things we wanted to try so will have to be back for more. The staff were all so nice. It felt like visiting friends chatting with them and made our visit that much sweeter. We went to the St. Paul location. They also have a spot in NE Minneapolis. Don't wait to check this spot out. If you know what's good for you, get that Cinnamon Roll. For more awesome food spots check out the account mallorymademetryitmn on Instagram! read more

Fantastic! So friendly and accommodating! It's a nice and relaxed space with little nooks and crannies to sit. Music is eclectic which is refreshing as we are allergic to Western. I was staying downtown for a weekend and had to go to this place both mornings I was in the area. It is THAT good! It's a cute restaurant on the corner with lots of windows that provide natural light. We were seated and given menus to order at the counter. The food came out quickly and was very delicious. Some of the menu items tried on both visits were the pigs eye breakfast, biscuits and gravy and avocado toast. All items were fresh and tasty! I didn't try the bakery items here since I was so full but next time I will need to get something to go. They have lots of pastries that look mouthwatering. read more

Was in St.Paul for the week and stopped here about 3 of the days for breakfast! Super good and they have some sweets to pick up if that's your jive. I got the sausage and gravy and it was 5/5 and very flavorful. My roommate got the bacon and poached egg everyday from here and never complained lol. I would definitely add this to your list for breakfast or lunch. read more

The Butter Tin: Great Food, If You're Unemployed or a Time Traveler Let me start by saying the food at The Butter Tin is genuinely decent. The pastries are buttery, the eggs are cooked with care, and the coffee doesn't taste like regret. But good luck actually eating any of it--unless your job is "brunch enthusiast" or you moonlight as a retiree. Their hours are a masterclass in anti-productivity. Closed before you get off work, closed before you get to work, and somehow also closed when you thought you had the day off. It's like they took a look at the working population and said, "Nah, we're good." It's a café that seems to exist in a parallel universe where brunch is a full-time job and nobody has meetings, deadlines, or responsibilities. If you're a freelancer with flexible hours, a student skipping class, or someone who just woke up from a nap at 9 a.m.--congrats, you're their target demographic. For the rest of us? The Butter Tin is a myth. A legend. A place we hear about but never actually experience. Like Atlantis, but with croissants read more

The food was to be expected, but my overall expectations based on the customer service was low quality...which is definitely important (coming from a customer visiting from out of town). Upon arrival, I was waiting by the sign that said wait here to be seated...but there was no host in sight, and after a few looks, I was told to go in line (by another customer) when I asked where I should stand while waiting to be seated. It was an unnecessary confusion for so many people waiting around. When I got to the front of the line, the lady at the cash register just said, "Oh, you don't have a number?" & rang up my order and gave me a number after that, which I was thankful for that. I was trying to simply enjoy my meal, but after getting up to use the bathroom (I had to wait a bit for that, as you need a code, which one of the workers there simply said the number out loud...which I tried to confirm was for the bathrooms? She kept walking)...my plate of food that I was finishing, was taken away and only my coffee and vitamin on the napkin I was using was left. I did not wish to cause a scene, but I did let my voice be heard, and let someone know who was working within eye sight behind the counter area that a portion of my food had been taken away and let her know that I had just tipped as well (while walking towards the bathrooms). I even let her know this was my one meal a day and obviously I wasn't happy about that (I probably had a good half of a plate left over, that I would have gladly taken back to my suite to finish up eating later!). She simply asked my table number, but didn't actually DO anything about it...if I was serving at the restaurant, I would have at least given a side of hash browns or maybe even a refund was called for. But nothing...I quickly left, shaking my head at the lack of basic customer service etiquette, empathy, & awareness. Based on my experience, I will not be returning. read more

I've eaten here several times and it's one of the places I know consistently has amazing tasting food. I've tried almost all the breakfast items and there isn't a bad thing on the menu, but the biscuits and gravy are the thing of dreams. The gravy is the perfect amount of meat to sauce ratio with layered flavors. We like the counter service. It's close to the farmer's market so it's fun to grab a bite then shop the local products. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Portions are sizable and priced well. They have expanded their seating a lot, but on weekends it's still very busy. The only downside to this location is the lack of parking. It's mostly metered on street parking. read more

My favorite part about the buttered tin is that I can always count on them for two things. Their amazing eggs and their fresh baked pastries and pies. I always like to get my staples when the cravings hit. I was in luck to see one of my favorite soft scrambles was the soft scramble of the day and that the cinnamon rolls were half off. I also like to try a new dessert and today I tried the blueberry pie. It was amazing, especially if you like that sort of thing. I particularly liked the crust and the topping. The Salmon soft scramble was so good I forgot to capture a photo of it. I ordered hashbrowns as a side and was offered to substitute it for a different item in my entre vs add it on which was nice of the staff to offer that. The service was fun, delightful, and quick. And there was ample seating. read more

I was in desperate need of custom cakes for my kiddo's graduation party, and the Buttered Tin more than delivered. I sent them a photo of the napkins (which featured the theme and colors), told them about their guitar playing, chose the flavors (chocolate/salted caramel for one; strawberries and cream for the other), and trusted the rest to them. The results were better than I could have hoped for, and reasonably priced. I sent my sister-in-law to pick them up right before the party. The closest parking she could find was about two blocks away, so a staff member walked her to her car, carrying the other cake, and made sure they were safely settled before she drove away. Our guests absolutely loved the cakes, and we are enjoying what little we had left over. Thank you, Buttered Tin, for going above and beyond to make our kiddo's grad party so happy and memorable! read more

It reminded us of cafeteria style eating. The parking is off street in downtown St. Paul. We happened to find rock star parking across the street by the Gopher bar. But you go in, grab a menu and get in line. Place your order, pay and find a seat. It's not a super big place, so it was like find a seat, or get in line... You see what we ordered and the food was good. Not really loud in there. Service was good. There was a heart in top of my Mocha. Eggs tasted a little different than what I'm used to. They were organic and tasted really clean and good once I got past the taste. Everyone enjoyed their food and there was extra to take home. Bread was think and buttery. You do need to put salt and pepper if you want on your food. They don't do that. read more

I got a Walleye Benedict with poached eggs, arugula, salad, a lemon hollandaise sauce and potatoes. I didn't know there wasn't any carbs and the walleye was essentially the bread of the Benedict but I didn't mind because it was very meaty. It was well seasoned and I loved eating it with the arugula and pickled peppers. Eggs were perfectly cooked but the potatoes were overcooked and soggy with a little too much oil. Flavor was good though and so were the crispy edges. Overall a solid and unique dish. read more

Hey Travoodies Let me say the say the atmosphere definitely local, friendly and yum. I just hate I couldn't sit to enjoy it. If you didn't see the reel, broken glass and my finger had a tussle. This neighborhood restaurant and bakery bustled with smiling faces from staff to patrons. What I ordered: The Biscuit Sammie! A cheddar buttermilk thyme biscuits with a maple fennel sausage layered with delicious was everything. My only disappointment was that with the situation occurring I was not able to eat it hot. I believe it would have been chefs kiss. So I have to do a redo... I also ordered a cinnamon roll, which I later enjoyed. It was a lot bread but yummy all the same. I would share it next time because it was alot for me! Overall it is a place I want to try again. read more

This is a cute cafe-style restaurant in Lowertown. My wife and I stopped in after checking out the European Christmas market. Service was not particularly timely - as there was one worker servicing the coffee, tea, juice, and alcoholic beverage stations as well as taking orders at the register. Once we placed our order and were seated, the food was delivered reasonably quickly. We were here during peak lunch rush, so that was a contributing factor. I got the "walleye cake bennie" which was two poached eggs served on two walleye cakes, with hollandaise, some pickled peppers, arugula salad, and some roasted potatoes. Taste was great. I personally would have preferred if the Benedict also included the traditional English muffin, but I did leave full. I personally would have also preferred 200% more pickled peppers, as I only had 1 or 2 and they were delicious. The other food options on the menu looked great as well, so for me there is great return-ability. I also had the Ruby Rose Spritz, made with a Rosé Vermouth and Prosecco. I picked up notes of peach, and found it refreshing though uninspired. I personally found the pricing to be high for what was offered. read more

I came in and stood in line with my family of 3 for 10 minutes, just waiting to be seated. 2 minutes later walked in 2 white men, no reservations, just waiting behind us as well. They were greeted right away by the waiter and offered seats right away at the front. I looked around and asked the folks ahead of us if they got their seats already, to which they did. Then I proceeded to get the waiters attention n told her we haven't been seated yet.
