Best pastries in Minnesota, hands down. Black Walnut lives up to the hype every single time. It does get very busy and they do sell out, so go early if you have your heart set on something specific. Even when it's packed, service is quick, efficient, and genuinely friendly, which is impressive given the crowds. They have an incredible selection with lots of rotating flavors, so there's always something new to try. Their croissants and Kouign Amann are absolute standouts. Flaky, buttery, and perfectly executed. The lattes are also delicious and pair perfectly with the pastries. They offer pre packed goodies as well, which are great for grab and go treats or bringing something home. The space itself is bright and welcoming with large windows and natural light, multiple seating options, and a small outdoor seating area when the weather is nice. If you love high quality pastries, Black Walnut is a must. Worth the wait and worth the early alarm.

It's a pretty well known and respected place and for good reason! Every weekend morning you'll find this place stacked with pastries, snacks, drinks and likely people. Even with all the people the vibe of the bakery is such a wonderful endeavor. I really enjoy having a cup of tea on the patio in the warmer months. The staff are also great and keep it moving. Ive had many of their pastries, quiches, and cookies and they're all awesome. The apple turnovers are buttery, flaky, and just the perfect bite.

Black Walnut is amazing! I've enjoyed their birthday cakes, many breakfasts, and assortments of pastries over the years. I hadn't been in a while and recently visited - it was super busy, even on a Friday morning! Everyone working was super nice and stayed calm amidst the constant line of customers and they kept it moving along well. Highlights for me were the seasonal apple pastry and the egg & cheese croissant. We also got the matcha latte, cold brew, choc chip cookie, choc banana croissant, and hot pressed ham & gruyère breakfast sandwich.

Cute bakery inside, it became very busy around noon and the tables are close together. Food was great.

Like everyone else in Minneapolis, I love this bakery. The staff is always fantastic, the bread or pastry always perfect, and it's not too bad if you don't go during peak times. I almost always get a laminated pastry but decided to go for a proper breakfast with a panini, or "Hot Pressed" on the menu. We got the "Vegetarian" with goat cheese, roasted tomatoes, almond spread, and balsamic on house sourdough. The highlight was definitely the bread; perfect thickness to griddle and keep a lot of the sourdough chew. The sandwich was great but I wish there was a bit more cheese as the it was the first ingredient but barely came though. I'd get it again but probably after trying another one, or just getting a quiche (It's amazing). We also got a pain au raisin and almond croissant. The pain au raisin was amazing. Crispy with a sticky-sweet orange & cardamom glaze. Wish there was more "raisin" in the pain au raisin, though. The almond croissant was delicious but really dense. I don't think the croissant held up too well to being just crammed full of frangipane and butter. All that to say: don't pass up their banana pudding. It's one of my favorite desserts in the cities.

One of the, if not the best bakeries in Minnesota. I was there on a Sunday around 1:30, there was a small line but moved quickly. I got an Almond Croissant with the "Blondie" cookie. It was the best croissant I've ever had! The croissant was the perfect amount of flakiness and very dense. The cookie was very delicious, but the croissant was the real winner here. I cannot wait to go back!

I got the tuna melt (4/5) and a focaccia slice (3/5) to go. The tuna melt was pretty good; I really liked the bread it was on! The focaccia was really oily; it started to soak through the paper bag but had a nice crunchy top crust. The service was pretty good (4/5), especially since it was absolutely packed when I went Sunday at 11am. They were out of the rest of their bread other than the focaccia. The ambiance is nice (4/5)! They also have a pretty patio!

I came here on a Sunday morning 10 minutes before opening and there was already a line, and for good reason! The pastries here are incredible and i love the wide variety of options. This was my first time coming here and i got the chocolate banana croissant, potato and leek croissant, passionfruit and raspberry kouign amann, and the gingersnap banana pudding. All of them were wonderful. My favorite was definitely the potato leek croissant, as savory pastries are my weakness! I loved trying a kouign amann that had a twist to it, the passionfruit and raspberry really made it unique. I definitely will be coming back again.

Didn't think chocolate almond croissants could get any better, but Black Walnut Bakery's addition of banana truly makes for the perfect pastry. Aside from being bright, open and inviting on any given day of the week, Black Walnut is churning out some of the best pastries in Minneapolis. You can appreciate the care and effort that goes into each delicious treat. I've had their chocolate chip cookie as well - which is tasty - but doesn't really compete with their speciality pastries. With an almond paste that is as creamy as it is textured, a healthy serving of chocolate lacing in each bite, and the subtle sweetness of the bananas plus the nutty crunch of the shaved almonds, this is such a decadent, gooey, yet flakey masterpiece.

I attended solo but luckily really liked the group I was assigned to. We wanted everyone to work on things they enjoy and allowed everyone to try some parts of the important tasks (making pasta and pastry dough). Your enjoyment might really depend on what your group is like. You can buy wine and beer to drink while you take the class, and those were reasonably priced I thought! $9 for a glass of wine and I think $8 for beer. The class was chaotic since we were making three courses and things needed to be done at different times, but the chaos felt like how it really is in a kitchen making multi course menus, so that didn't bother me! The assistants were great and helped us stay on track and helped if we were struggling with anything. I can't say I learned much from the class (which is why I only gave 4 stars), but I sure had a lot of fun!

The hostess was extremely unfriendly and seemed very unhappy. She played the game and greeted us, but never once made eye contact, said "welcome in", "thank you for coming in" or anything else that would make a customer feel like they were appreciated for coming in. From the time we walked in to the time she showed us to our table, I said "thank you so much" three times and not once was even acknowledged or replied back with a "you're welcome". She should really find something else to do if she's not going to be a "host". Serving people should be the greatest pleasure we have when engaging with those we don't know. Patrick on the other hand was truly awesome. Friendly, smiling, engaged in conversation prior to taking our order and just seemed happy to talk to us. We told him we were from Nevada and were only there because of a recommendation from a couple in an elevator! He thought that was just awesome. Food arrived and everything was really good. The hash browns were WAY overcooked, almost burnt, but that was the only negative thing to say about the food. It was otherwise delicious! I would strongly suggest this place for breakfast. The menu is really good, with a decent variety of good options to choose from. Cost wasn't bad, but not a deal either. If I was part of the management team, I'd have a serious conversation with the young lady who was hosting today (8/12/26. This place was practically across the street, so we decided to take a breather from the hectic festivites and come here. Immediately we were greeted with cooling A/C and much-needed silence. Cool and quiet... the perfect escape. The place was decked out for pride with lots of colorful flags representing many of the wonderful ways to be queer. Definitely get bonus points for their allyship. I got a bottled Coca-Cola and my hubbie got a simple cup of brewed coffee. They had a reasonably-sized menu with even some smoothies and such listed, as well as a display of bakery items. A chalkboard showed their three seasonal beverages, which looked fun (though not my cup of tea). One of the employees was very helpful when I requested a cup of ice to go with my Coke; I needed the extra cool down after all the time we'd spent in the sun in the heat! We sat at one of the tables and appreciated leaning back into the chairs with back support for several minutes. Whew! Perked us back up nicely. There isn't a ton of space/lots of places to sit and I was kind of shocked the place wasn't flooded with queers, lol. There was quite the line for the bathroom though, according to my husband. The decor is nice and neat. I think I spotted a small selection of board games you could break out if desired too, which is fun.
