My favorite bakery in Saint Paul! As a pan dulce aficionado, I have to say this is my go-to panadería when in Saint Paul. They are located right on César Chávez Street, what i consider the heart of the Mexican community in west Saint Paul. The prices are very affordable, bread is made with higher quality ingredients (you can taste and feel it) and service is great too. I would recommend stopping by early if you want to see the extensive variety of goodies they have! They also have fresh tres leches cakes ready to take for your special occasion. My favorite is cupcake looking pastry that has a cheesecake top and inside has jam, don't know the name but this is the only bakery that I've found them at-- SO GOOD!! If you're in the area, check them out :)

Had I known what an ice rink the roads were, I might have passed on the pastries today, but I didn't and either did the droves of cars at the bakery. My parents gave me a coupon for $5.00 off @ Don Panchos. I think they thought I had purchased the croissants I brought them previously from Don Panchos, when in fact they were from Trung Nam. This is cute, and what looks to be family run bakery over in the Del Sol district. They have cases of freshly baked, inviting pastries and cakes. I love the smell of bakeries. They were bringing pans of fresh made loaves of french bread and dumping into a bin in the front. I wasn't clear on whether or not I should help myself, so I asked and the young boy pointed me to the baskets sitting on the counter. I wasn't too jazzed about using those- they looked kind of dirty, so I just lined it with some of the bakery tissue paper, took the tongs and purchased the following: - 3 churros which were nothing spectacular. -2 plain croissants which were ok. A little heavy and not light and fluffy like Trung Nam -1 cream cheese (I think) croissant which was delicious - 2 sugar donuts - chocolate filled empanada and something that looked like a biscuit. Not quite sure about that thing yet. I'll have J try that one. Most of the items are labeled w/ prices. For all that with coupon it came to only $5.75 which was pretty cheap. Glad I tried it, but honestly I think I'll have to stick to the heavenly croissants at Trung Nam.. This place is worth a visit though.

Contrary, coming into the intimate home shop in Saint Paul hit different. As a Saint Paul girly, I absolutely adore small businesses. Marc Heu has a great location across from the co-op on Dale. Due to the pastry lineup altering so frequently, there are no signs detailing the pastry product so there is definitely interaction with staff members to ensure you are getting what you want. The staff is attentive, dressed in uniform and ready to take orders with a note pad upon arrival. Fortunately both days I have went, there were no lines but I also understand lines are common here which is something to be aware of. Inside there are small circular tables to enjoy your pastry and or coffee in. I would not recommend bringing a laptop as this is a tiny shop with an emphasis on eating, mingling and departing. Other reviews will dink stars because they will say the pricing is high however, I think, the pricing is reasonable giving the high quality of baking effort and the quality of service provided. In addition, this is not a spot to come 24/7, rather, special moments such as a birthday, holiday or celebration. With that, I feel like the price is justified. Line or not - the pasty variety is outstanding! My husband and I had a donut with a spiced icing and some other filling and every bite we kept saying yum or oh my gosh this is so good. Inspired from France, you will 100% feel transported as the shop itself resembles France from the interior and obviously the baking follows suit. The display case is the center of attention when you walk in. I highly recommend stopping when in Saint Paul or purchasing at a coffee shop should you happen to see the line of Marc Heu. There are a few other stores in the area, otherwise, Grand Avenue is right up the road should you want to make a day of supporting local. Saint Paul is so lucky to have a slice of France in our city. Thank you!

All of the donuts here are wonderful - there is a large selection of cake and raised donuts, with different flavors rotating throughout the year. I have ordered 2-3 dozen to bring into work multiple times, and each time I get questions and remarks on how fresh and delicious they are. If I am in the mood for savory, a personal favorite of mine is the breakfast croissants: warm and oozing with cheese, ham, or spinach! Although my go-to is the chocolate croissant; I eat it almost weekly! The bakery also makes and decorates special occasion cakes. I recently ordered a Princess Torte for a friend's birthday, and it was a hit! I always feel welcomed at this bakery, no matter how busy or quiet a day it is. You can truly feel the love and warmth (and smell the deliciousness!) of the staff and community that frequently return as regulars. The prices are some of the best around, too!

Great with coffee, great to walk in and get a couple dozen for a work event or gathering! The space is small and gives a very homey vibe but I believe they were bought out by Woullet recently. I popped in this morning to get 2 1/2 dozen cake donuts for a work event and had lovely and quick service. Donuts here are still super cheap which is amazing! There are lots of other baked goods to try here but I am so loyal to the cake donuts that I rarely want to venture out of my comfort zone. Many items in the display case look pretty delicious too though! Maybe one day I will branch out. Also conveniently close to Northern Coffeeworks for a proper latte :)
