North Star Deli is, well, a fan of the North Stars. I wanted to ask what they thought of the Wild but I'll save it for another visit. I wasn't super hungry so I decided to get a bowl of wild rice soup. The sandwiches looked like the thing to get so maybe another visit when I'm more hungry. The soup was good. I ate it on the sidewalk patio. Not a lot of cars passing by so it was nice. There is so much North Star memorabilia in this super small space. I love that a 9-in tv was playing a video of caddy shack. I feel like I stepped back in time. Oh yeah, and Norm Sucks.
We stopped in for lunch and were able to find street parking right across the street, which was convenient. When we arrived, there were already a few people ahead of us ordering and waiting for their food. Orders are placed through a kiosk, and while the service isn't particularly fast, it's definitely worth the wait, just be a little patient :) The space is small and cozy with a fun hockey themed décor that gives it a welcoming neighborhood feel. We waited inside instead of on the patio since there's only one pickup area indoors. The woman working was very soft spoken, but thankfully the restaurant wasn't too noisy, so we had no trouble hearing when our order was ready. I ordered the Modano with turkey, Havarti cheese, and house made pickles, and it was so, so, sooo good! The house made pickles added the perfect slight tanginess that really made the sandwich stand out. The portion was generous and well worth the price. My only small disappointment was that the combo comes with a bag of chips and a canned soda. I personally would've loved the option to get fries with my sandwich, and the side choices are limited. Overall, this is a great little spot with delicious sandwiches and a cozy atmosphere. I'd definitely come back for another Modano, next time I'll probably grab it to go!
A small place with sandwiches that pack big flavor! I loved the decor in here. Thankfully I came around 2pm and didn't experience any type of lunch rush. I ordered the hit honey chicken sandwich and it was delicious! The sandwich was HUGEEEE and PACKINNN! I turned it into two meals which is nice :) my only complaint is with the tomato bisque I ordered. I would like to think there's no such thing as too much Parmesan cheese, but this definitely had too much Parmesan cheese. It was really really thick and gritty because of that. Overall though, there are about 7 other sandwiches I would absolutely want to try from here!
This is a great little find deep in the Kingfield area of South Minneapolis. There is street parking only but that hassle is worth it. It's well away from the beaten path of downtowners, tourists, and suburbanites and I think it can truly represent what locals like in a deli. There are some great sounding sandwich combinations on the menu. Unfortunately, during my inaugural visit, they could not make some of them because they were out of key ingredients. That seems a little lame for a shop that only does sandwiches but it gives me an excuse to go there again to give it a try. What I did taste (a Dino Italian Sub and a North Star Deluxe) were well above average. Maybe not legendary but certainly exceeding a typical sandwich from a chain franchise. The prices were also about 1/3 higher than a typical chain franchise but I guess you get what you pay for. I liked the hockey themed schtick of the place and the young guys manning the lunch rush could all pass for avid hockey stars which fits the theme since the shop seems to be named after the old MN pro hockey team (North Stars). The only thing that was not super authentic about them were the lack of extreme mullets and they all seemed to have a full set of teeth. The sandwiches are fairly large, messy, and tasty. There are some great sidewalk tables to enjoy your lunch on a nice day. They even provide local hot sauce (Cry Baby Craigs) on the table which is very un-Minnesotan due to its spicy kick. What's not to like? If in the area, this is a definite recommendation to change up your lunchtime boredom with the same old same old.
Whoa, do not skip on this deli! The food is amazing! The Dino Italian sub had so much flavor, each bite was so flavorful and satisfying, I enjoyed every bite. My friends enjoyed their sandwiches as well, everyone was raving. There's limited seating inside, but they do have patio chairs & tables out front. Inside is an homage to the MN North Starts hockey team, so cool to see some NHL history in there. They have an order kiosk set up, which is super convenient and you can edit your order with ease. I will definitely be back to try a new sandwich soon!
A cute little hole in the wall sandwich deli bursting with meat packed sandwiches and smells. I would recommend ordering online as their ordering method in store is a screen on a kiosk. We ordered for a pick up time at 11:30 and it was done by 11:20. There is very limited seating inside and a small patio on the sidewalk. Pop over to 46th on patisserie while you're waiting for a bit more space. Both sandwhiches were well balanced with saltiness of the meat, creaminess of the cheese. The focaccia was light and bouncy. Pickles packed a nice punch against the ham and pork.

We asked two people inside eating what they would recommend and they pointed out their favorites, but told us you really can't go wrong - they are frequent fliers. And I know why. Very tasty sub and it was stacked with ingredients. The fries were served with some bomb aioli that made me want seconds. We saved the brownie for later on in the day - oh man, what a letdown. It was dry dry dry! Not a fudgey experience you'd expect for $5. I'd rather have one of my own! Although the prices are on the higher side, everything tasted wonderful (minus the dry hockey puck brownie). Will be back in the future for another sandwich. FYI - there is a kiosk you order on. No available service staff are available. They just place your order on the table when it is finished. Water is available at the front.
I ordered the North Star Deluxe and it did not disappoint - thick with pastrami, bacon and ham on a crunchy French roll with delicious pickles and sauce. Easy to order menu for carry out and enough vintage hockey schwag to admire while waiting - or call ahead for pick up.

Tried the North star and their feature Sandwich at the time, forgot the name, decent Sandos. Lotta retro stuff all over the shop, was looking for Skeletor myself. Love their trust/honor system, shows love and class. Parking is great. Go tp their website to check out their feature Sando, order online, save some time, and like mentioned before...your order/bag will be ready with your name on it for you to grab n go.
This is a hidden gem in Minneapolis. I had a friend date day and we swung in on a whim. Things to know, this is very self service. Grab your own drink, chips sides etc while they make the rest fresh. I will say that I had to ask for a few things not realizing it was a grab yourself but wasn't inconvenient. I ordered the North Star Deluxe, it was larger than expected and delicious. I love that they support local with the bread from Patisserie 46. They also had Minnesota based sodas to order. You can tell the ingredients are fresh. Outdoor seating is limited and indoor seating is even more so. Plan to maybe grab and go. It's street parking but even on a Saturday it wasn't bad. I loved the fun themed decorations. Don't miss this great local deli!
Great creative delicious sandwich shop in south Minneapolis. Service was ok not much interaction. You order on a kiosk. The place has no indoor seating and a few tables on the sidewalk. Seems like a really busy takeout spot. Order: the North Star deluxe. Delicious. Their take on a Reuben without the kraut. All the meats were delicious and distinctive in flavor. The creole mayo added that nice creaminess. The homemade pickles on the side added that little vinegar punch to cut thru the richness of the sandwich. Smoked salmon BLT. Huge potion of perfectly smoked salmon. The smoke and crunch of the bacon was a perfect pairing. This is an amazing creative surf and turf. Overall: This is a must try on your Minnesota food tour. read more
One visit review It is a cool little spot One big old sandwich Stumbled upon this place after leaving the barber shop. Think they might be new. Sandwiches are a little on the spendy side. Start around 15. I got the "half" muffuletta. They only have a cold option on the menu for it. Thing was massive. Good proportion of bread to meat. 80's hockey vibe. I should have asked if they could do the muffuletta hot. Might be five stars if they would. read more

After seeing many videos on social media about this spot, it immediately was added to my list because I love a good deli sandwich. Sunday a friend suggested here, so I was excited to finally give it a whirl. It's a small, cozy deli with VERY limited seating, but lots of fun sports decor to check out. Now for the important stuff....the food, though? Yummmmooooo 10/10!!! I'm not usually a crinkle cut fry gal, but these suckers were delishhhh... fresh, hot, and salted to perfection. Slappin' forsure! We split the Dino Italian sandwich which was a messy little bugger, but SO worth it. The taste of the gardenia was great with each bite. Grab the napkins before your first bite.... I warned you! The hefty hockey puck brownie in the case was staring at us, so our sweet tooth gave into it and ummm, NO go for me (dry and just blahhhh). Something to note: there is basically no staff interaction which felt so odd to me, but hey, I guess it works for them. You order from a kiosk and your order just automatically magically appears on this cart. I plan to return sometime soon to try the crinkle cut fries again and the Zamboni dip or the Northstar deluxe. read more

Ordered the Dino sandwich which contained a slice of eggplant, + Italian meats. Did not disappoint. This is a place to go and try a sandwich you haven't had before..no indoor seating but a few outdoor tables are just fine and fun for people watching read more

Great service, the guy we were talking with was very nice. The sandwiches we got were great! The Herb Brooks was my favorite and my gf loved the Zamboni Dip which came with jus on the side. There are about a 6 or 7 bar stools inside and a bunch of outdoor seating. read more

Very small inside, but very cool decor. Very clean, bathroom too! Too hot to sit outside and eat today. The owner is very nice and friendly. The sandwich's are amazing !!! We'll return to try the next amazing sandwich. read more
