I wish I had 1/2 stars because I would like to give 4.5. The food was all amazing, service was wonderful, but the portion sizes were just too big (I know, some of you will love that, but I really hate food waste and I'm sure whatever the aggressive little birds miss is getting wasted) and the seating is limited. But I don't want to punish them for being what they are - a tiny restaurant that serves great food in large portions. We all got pancakes, two of us with blueberries (absolutely a yes), bacon, eggs, and shared one of our hashbrowns. The bacon was perfectly cooked, thick, and flavorful. I am not a hashbrown fan, but I could understand the fuss. The blueberry pancakes were absolutely delightful. My husband went to the bathroom midway through breakfast and one of the tiny birds jumped right up on the edge of his plate and prepared to dig in. It was not easily dissuaded, so we ended up having to cover his food with a napkin. So I think the birds are also on board with the 5 stars. :-) Service was great, food was quick. I'll say this; go at your own risk. It's really about what you can tolerate. The food was good and provided a more than average portion size. I was full. The service was tolerable considering the fact it is only one waitress covering the place (about 15-20 people could max out the place; It's a very small spot). But my wait wasn't that long to be seated because I came right when someone left. Took about 15 minutes before my order was taken and about 30 minutes to receive my food. The ambiance...not that great. It's a small and cramped, elongated, diner-style bar top where it actually does feel like you're in your kitchen. But here was the problem, it was very unsanitary. Audible buzzing of multiple flies and seeing them land everywhere and the kitchen was just so disappointing to look at. The chef prepared food with his bare hands and cross contaminated constantly. Now I can be impartial to the fact that at home, most people do this. However, when you're preparing, serving, and selling food, it's just unacceptable. This place needs more employees and a bigger space because there are health code violations here. I'm sure if those two things were provided, they would be more intentional about avoiding these mistakes. read more

I didn't expect Minnesota to have a place with such long waits... I stand corrected. Our Kitchen has a sign saying this isn't the place to go when you're in a rush, but it is egregiously slow. When my party of 3 arrived at 12 pm on a Saturday, we were told the wait would be about 30 min. That's ok--we had ample time to walk over to see Bde Maka Ska and back--the total wait ended up being 50 min. Once we sat down and ordered, the food took another 50 min to arrive. That being said, the food was honestly great! I really liked the crispness of the hash browns, and toast was yummy. Portion sizes are massive here; my friends wanted to share a short stack on top of their own meals but didn't make a dent in it. Luckily, the workers were all really nice and helpful. We got to-go boxes (paper so it's easy for reheating later!) and a bag. There is a 4% discount if you pay in cash. The receipt wasn't itemized whatsoever though, so that can make it hard to split the bill if you come here with friends. read more

My friend and I are always looking for new places to try- we can check this one off the list. As many others have referenced, it's quite small- restroom included. Wasn't even sure they had one, but they do. We sat outside at one of the four outdoor tables. Service was good for what we needed. We each had the breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, a hearty, generous portion of potatoes, while good- I wasn't blown away by them. They were pretty basic. Their sausage patty on the other had was delicious while my friend got hers with bacon. Portions are quite large, and it came out pretty quick. A nice place to try aat least once. The sign says if you're in a hurry, to maybe check back another time and it says to wait outside which I think many people were confused by instead of going in to sit at the table or counter. Visited 12/31/25. Okay Our Kitchen-what a fun hidden gem! Diner style, us former U of M friends who came in for breakfast said it reminded us a bit of Al's breakfast with more light inside. It's not the kind of place that you're going to have a sit down long brunch/breakfast due to how small it is, but it would be such a fun place to go to as a solo dining spot. Prepare for a bit of a wait depending on when you go and how many are in your party, but it is worth it. Parking was easy and residential with lots of spots nearby . For food, I got the two eggs, hashbrowns and bacon and then I got to choose between toast or a pancake so I got the pancake and added blueberries. My other friends got omelettes with different toppings, added. We all loved our breakfasts and they run a pretty efficient turnover there too so we didn't have to wait too long for food. I came for breakfast. Let that color this post. I give this place 5 stars because I walked through the door and realized the classic American diner is not dead. This place is nostalgic (and I'm in my 40s). The feel of this place makes you want to stay a while to see who comes in to join the communal merriment of the patrons. Though you can't stay long - waiting patrons need your seat. To boot, the service from the woman juggling everything (except cooking) is fantastic. She executed a prompt welcome as I walked in the door, immediate beverage service as-ordered (she asked if I wanted room for cream in my coffee) while bussing areas being vacated and refilling beverages for other patrons.....all with a genuine, jovial attitude. The food is classic diner food- no frills. No TV here- talk with one another. No cappuccino, no alcohol, no valet. Just a guy at the griddle and a woman working the dining room. I was expecting to see a pay phone (rotary dial) on the wall but it did not exist. It's worth a stop, the wait and the experience. Check your expectations at the door. read more

The 20-25 minute wait for your food once you've ordered is worth it. One cook (the owner) and relatively small cooking area. I think the pancakes are the best. I always get blueberry and they're large, fluffy, and delicious. The hash browns are popular. You'll be able to take home leftovers as you get lots of food. The coffee is fine. I'm reluctant to write this review. I usually have to wait to get a seat if I'm not here early enough at opening to get in right away. The restaurant is tiny! I mean, small. Like, itty bitty. Honestly, I don't care! I'd gladly wait over and over again. (Side note: in the warmer months they have more seating outdoors.) The service is remarkable. There's two amazing servers. The food is well priced and delicious. I always get the breakfast special, which is more than I can eat. Totally worth it though - to get everything I want off the grill. Fantastic, classic diner in south Minneapolis for those mornings when you need burnt coffee, greasy hash browns, and a pancake the size of your head. It checks all the boxes of a fast-order breakfast joint. 10 top counter? Check. Will you smell like butter and breakfast sausage from a tube the rest of the day? Absolutely. I wouldn't want it any other way. The server and cook were friendly and we got a nice cup of (perfectly) bitter coffee to help take the edge off a rough Sunday of one too many. At 7:30 it was relaxed but folks were starting to roll in when we left around 8am. I'll say if you want a gourmet experience you're on the wrong place. Everything comes prepackaged except the pancakes. Sausage squeezed from a plastic wrapper, Sysco bread, and potatoes from a tub. But that's exactly what I want from a diner! I'm here because I'm hungover; not to chat with James Beard. Hash browns have 2 cups of clarified butter dumped on them and are pressed and left until perfectly tender with a crispy shell. 10/10 would upset my cardiologist again. Sausage is classic. Pepper and sage forward. Smashed to give lots of crispy lacing. Eggs were scrambled well and not rubbery at all. The fact that you can get a plate-sized pancake as a carb vs toast is the best part. They're scratch made and pretty good. Nice and tangy from the buttermilk while being relatively fluffy. Could use more seasoning overall but it hit the spot. I can confidently say I've had the most satisfying/comforting meals at Our Kitchen, whether or not i've had a little too much to drink the night before - there's something about a greasy diner breakfast that nothing else can top. I usually go with the Kitchen Special which comes with a big mug of hot coffee that's refilled before you realize you need a refill; two eggs; a generous serving of crispy hash browns that are cooked in a copious amount of butter (which are like crack when you take your first bite, just extremely satisfying;) a flattened, crisp, lacy sausage patty; and a ginormous, fluffy, flavorful pancake (or toast... get the pancake!) There's definitely enough food to require a take home container (things reheat well in an air fryer.) There's ketchup, a few different hot sauces, and syrup if needed, I usually go with the blueberry hot sauce on everything except my pancake. It lived up to the hype and is a great brunch option in the Uptown area! We waited around 20 minutes at 10:30 on a Sunday. With the limited seating and singular grill to prepare food, it was a longer brunch experience but definitely worth it. The staff were friendly and efficient at bringing people in and out. I tried the pancakes with blueberries and chocolate chips and would definitely recommend them. Very buttery and on the denser side, which I prefer. We found this place by accident! Just woke up Saturday morning and started searching for a great breakfast place in Minneapolis. "Our Kitchen" was the one we landed on! They were very busy and already had a line, we were quoted about 50 min. So we strolled around the neighborhood and enjoyed the nice weather. This place it little, maybe 12 seats at the countertop and and 4-8 seats at the 2 lower countertops, plus a few outside tables. We were seated in the middle of the main countertop so we had a front row seat to all the action! The cook was a WIZARD! Juggling multiple orders with just one cooktop grill and a few frying pans! Unbelievable to watch him work! Pancakes, steak, hash browns, bacon, and sausage patties, all going on the cooktop while he whipped up eggs and omelettes of varying preparations and ingredients! Food was fantastic! We had pancakes(best ever), sausage patty, cheese and green pepper omelette, and of course their hash browns. Definitely recommend you go during a work day and/or during a time no one is likely to be there because this place can only fit like 15 customers at a time. The space, the decor and atmosphere is probably the only drawback; you have to be in the mood for the old diner vibes I only had breakfast here so far, but I would love to try their burgers. I woke up to a snowy day in the neighborhood and decided to make the 15 minute walk to Our Kitchen for some much needed caffeine and chocolate chip pancakes. I'd been curious about this place for quite some time and had heard great things. Overall, I was generally satisfied. This diner is very quaint, with the classic twelve or so stools you come to expect from such joints. The staff were lovely and very quick with getting food out. They seemed to know many of the customers, which is always fun. As for the food, it was good but not amazing. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. I got two chocolate chip pancakes, coffee, hashbrowns with cheese and bacon. The pancakes are made in house and the hashbrowns are supposedly world famous (I wouldn't go that far, but they're not bad). The bacon was thin and flavorful. All in all, not bad... but also not my favorite diner in the Twin Cities. P.S. I didn't see a bathroom, but I also didn't ask. read more

First off I randomly saw Timberwolves player Jaden McDaniels here!! (I'd post the pic, but he asked me not to so to respect his wishes I cannot) This place is amazing!! Very classic diner vibes, but everything here is scratch made even the sausage patties. They only have one grill so if you have any allergies like celiac this isnt the place I'd recommend. They do make as good of an attempt as they can, but it's just a size problem they dont have enough space to be 100% safe. Everything is amazing here, thick pancakes, hearty bacon, good sausage. And I love the service and staff! There's a picture of the main line cook when he was like 15 !! And it's been running since 1942 which is crazy. The best breakfast spot around here absolutely. I always get the breakfast special and i always leave with another meal or two of leftovers and if you do it that way it's cheaper than even franchise restaurants and much, MUCH better quality. You sit down in our kitchen and it really just feels like your kitchen in the best way. Classic, delicious and serene is how I'd describe this place. Don't disrespect it by coming in a rush, they have limited seating and staff, but trust me they're doing everything they can to get the food out to ya as soon as they can. Neighborhood goodness in the middle of the city. This tiny little diner is a must stop in Minneapolis. The food is home cooked great, and it's a place you're going to want to see. Maybe seats 15 people, on a cozy bar seating either facing the grill or in the back row facing the windows. (They do expand to include outdoor seating in the warmer months) The menu is not huge, but it's got most every staple you need from breakfast, including homemade sausage patties (amazing), biscuits and gravy (also great), home-cut hash browns and gigantic pancakes. I ordered the Our Kitchen Special which included 2 Eggs, Hash browns, a Sausage Patty and toast. More than enough food for breakfast because the portions were plentiful. I think the meal cost about $15. The star of the breakfast was the Sausage Patty. It was super good, it was pretty big and was so flavorful. This is a must-have if you make your way to Our Kitchen! My son ordered the biscuits and gravy, I got to try a bite... and that may be my order next time! Service is friendly and intimate.
