Two of us wanted to try this place out after checking out a house in the area. We were completely ignored by one of the servers--neither took our names or let us know how long the wait would be. I know they do this because they said the party's name before us, and they gave estimates/chatted with others there. One finally said hello to us, the other checked-in with everyone but us. Later, the latter were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out--was very cold to us. This whole time, we debated leaving--and we should have--because of how we felt. I went inside to speak to the other server and let them know that we were waiting head of the two guys that just got there, and the other server got very agitated at me, raised their voice, and EVERYONE eating inside stared at me. They said that "We cannot serve you here" (after I asked for the other server). I felt humiliated and gaslit. This was the most explicit racism I've ever faced in the Twin Cities when trying to eat out. I'll never go there again, and you can take my word for it or not. It's how we felt we were treated and will never return there even after that server may no longer work there. This experience has also made me rethink living in that neighborhood out of fear that this is normal. We went to Victor's 1959 Cafe after, and the server was absolutely lovely, but our day was ruined by this experience. read more

I'm in love at first visit. It's definitely a love that will last. When I came here on a Sunday morning my friends and I were surprised to find this place was very accurately named "Our Kitchen" because you walk in and it's just a kitchen. And a countertop. And a couple of window side tables. We were able to get seated at the counter right away. One of the ladies behind the counter was so sweet. I was entranced by the cooking going on right in front of me - all done by the owner. She told me I was in the trance and she sees people with the trance all the time. It's just mesmerizing watching him handle all of the orders. He has such a system that it doesn't look like he's stressed at all or cooking for probably 50 people an hour, he's just cooking away! Just him! He was also very friendly and talked with us. The wait for food wasn't even too long at all and it was really cool being able to physically see them cook everything. No weird business here. For the food itself... ugh it was so delicious! I got a short stack of pancakes with sausage. The sausage is only one sausage patty but the amount of food overall was so filling and delicious! This place is so stinkin' cute and everything I want in a lil' tiny mom and pop neighborhood greasy spoon. I've unknowingly passed this many times, but when I looked on Yelp for brunch nearby, it came up. A girlfriend and I decided to check it out for a Sunday late morning diner dish. They do have a parking lot you can use behind the little place, which is convenient for the area and lack of street parking. We walked in and were greeted by one of the servers -- there were two total! -- and took a seat up at the counter that faced (and was just feet away from) the kitchen. This is a true tiny diner! Probably 20 seats total in this place? 10-12 at the counter facing the kitchen, and probably 8 facing the street the opposite way near the windows. Two waitresses were manning the clients while the cook (assuming the owner because I saw his photos in multiple Yelp pics?) prepared everything, in front of an audience no less! We were immediately offered coffee and brought waters. Water glasses were tiny so they kept having to come back and fill them up. They could've used some coat hangers or hooks at the counter for winter coats, but we just held onto our stuff. They do have a TV in here in the right corner above the kitchen and were playing the Vikings game. Menu was simple yet effective--your classic combo breakfasts with eggs, bacon, toast, you get the jist. Omelettes, pancakes, and hashbrowns. I'm sure there's room for requests or changes to the basics listed on the menu. Food is really reasonably priced--like $5-10 for a very filling meal. I got an omelette and added in cheese and veggies, with hashbrowns on the side. Friend got a classic combo breakfast with a blueberry pancake on the side. The pancake was massive! Both of our meals were very well prepared and just the perfect amount of greasy and crispy. We both brought home leftovers--the meals were that big of portions. Waitresses were attentive and kind, but still efficient and speeding around to every patron. Our Kitchen reminds me of Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown. Very little seating but we only waited for about 30 minutes to get a spot. Service was prompt and the food was out quickly. My son and I come here for special guys breakfast on the weekend, and we love it. Everything is scratch made, and it shows. Single cook, single flattop, limited seating, quintessential greasy spoon. Corned beef and hash is good, with large chunks of beef and homestyle potatoes. Pancakes are plate sized, fluffy and can be adorned with multiple accoutrements. Eggs are well prepared, as everything here, and you can tell they take pride in the work. Not as busy as another famous small breakfast place in Dinkytown means you won't feel pressured to finish quickly. No stars don't eat here nasty no health and safety practices the cook never washed his hands or sanitized anything he took out slices of cheese and sat them on a dirty rag then put the cheese on an omelette. To make matters worse The cook went in the back got a "new" package of English muffins however the middle of the package was obviously chewed open there was a big hole!!! It was rat or mice had gotten into it but the cook just opened the end and pulled out a muffin and started grilling it like WHAT?!? Umm this was the most disgusting place I have ever been to period. This place is AWESOME!! If you are near Lake Calhoun (Chain of Lakes) then make sure you start out here. Great breakfast to start the day and then you can walk it off on the wonderful trails around the lakes. This place is located in an old house. Parking is a premium but there is a neighborhood just a block away that has plenty of on-street parking. This place is really small with seating for about 20 MAX. The counter is the best location because you can watch the expert short order cook create your meal. It is amazing the chef can keep it all straight. Only 2 people working this cozy establishment so grill to table time is about 10-15 minutes. Remember it is a small grill!! The wait is worth it. The hash browns are made from fresh potatoes, fried crispy and had good flavor. For those who follow me, you know I'm pretty much a carnivore so of course I had a meat omelet. Sausage and cheese to be exact. The sausage was a little slim but the taste made up for it. Overall a well portioned meal. You will not go away hungry! I love the counter because it allows you to interact with others. I was sitting next to a radio broadcaster from Australia. Way cool. He was not impressed with our choices for president and said he has "Lots of Fear" that one of them would have access to the launch codes (I'll let you decide who he was talking about!) The place has outside seating (not a good choice for a seat in the winter) and if I would have been dining with our family, I would have chosen that option.
