Just visiting Minneapolis, we stayed in Uptown, notorious for its lack of parking. This particular establishment does offer a few spots and you should still be able find several along the street. Folks on bikes will have no problem getting in and out of here fast. We ordered scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast. The eggs and toast were both very good, what you might expect from a diner. The hash browns were above and beyond. Lightly crispy, you can taste the fresh potatoes. If you sit by the bar, you can actually watch the chef frying them up in front of you. Parking is a premium but there is a neighborhood just a block away that has plenty of on-street parking. This place is really small with seating for about 20 MAX. The counter is the best location because you can watch the expert short order cook create your meal. It is amazing the chef can keep it all straight. Only 2 people working this cozy establishment so grill to table time is about 10-15 minutes. Remember it is a small grill!! The wait is worth it. The hash browns are made from fresh potatoes, fried crispy and had good flavor. For those who follow me, you know I'm pretty much a carnivore so of course I had a meat omelet. Sausage and cheese to be exact. The sausage was a little slim but the taste made up for it. Overall a well portioned meal. You will not go away hungry! I love the counter because it allows you to interact with others. I was sitting next to a radio broadcaster from Australia. Way cool. He was not impressed with our choices for president and said he has "Lots of Fear" that one of them would have access to the launch codes (I'll let you decide who he was talking about!) The place has outside seating (not a good choice for a seat in the winter) and if I would have been dining with our family, I would have chosen that option. No stars don't eat here nasty no health and safety practices the cook never washed his hands or sanitized anything he took out slices of cheese and sat them on a dirty rag then put the cheese on an omelette. To make matters worse The cook went in the back got a "new" package of English muffins however the middle of the package was obviously chewed open there was a big hole!!! It was rat or mice had gotten into it but the cook just opened the end and pulled out a muffin and started grilling it like WHAT?!? Umm this was the most disgusting place I have ever been to period. Best diner in MPLS hands down. As a kid from a small town the ambiance is something that makes you feel like you're at home. News is on, the smell of pancakes, bacon and coffee fills the air, and the early crowd is either partaking in conversation with the staff or reading the paper. The food is something of comfort, you watch it get prepared all on the same griddle or the small number of pans that the chef has, it's like your uncle is making breakfast for your family at a get-together. You get to have at least 2-3 cups of coffee before it's ready but it's all worth it as you will not need to eat for the rest of the day (you might need another cup of coffee after you take your nap when you get home, but that's it). Overall I cannot recommend this place enough, people like to complain about how long the food takes but the leisurely midwestern in me enjoys how long satisfaction truly takes. read more

We sat outside at a sidewalk table this morning to devour some 2 eggs, toast, and hashbrown plates ($7.50). I had my egg whites scrambled, he had his over easy. Both were eggcellent! I had rye toast and he substituted a chocolate chip pancake. Again, both were good and the pancake was huge. He added bacon ($2) and I added jalapeños and tomatoes to my hashbrowns (50¢ each). The bacon looked perfectly cooked, and while I didn't taste it, he said it was exactly how bacon should be - every bite crispy and evenly cooked. The hashbrowns tasted great with the extra add ons, especially the jalaps, crunchy on the outside, but a little greasy and mushy on the inside. Oh well, still mostly hashtastic. It consisted of pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns and bacon. The hashbrowns were truly spectacular! I was impressed by how crispy they were made and how they managed to have such a distinct, earthy, potato-ness about them. They're definitely better than most hashbrowns that I can recall. In terms of the other items, they were all good but pretty typical. Not to say that they weren't delicious too. This is a basic spot that does what it does very well. I was so excited to see the grill station up front! It reminded me of the southern style breakfast spots. The service is great! Very personable and friendly. This is a local regulars spot as a few regulars came in and the server knew their order and life stories. The food is reasonably priced and made to order. The portions are definitely worth the price...and it's not overpriced at all! I came in with my 15m old daughter and the server made sure she had a seat at the bar next to me with a high chair. This place is a treasure. I was out house hunting with my partner and we needed a quick bite to eat. We passed this place and I instantly knew we had to check it out. A classic greasy spoon with delicious diner food. I was tempted to get some breakfast food because I knew it would be out of this world, but a cheeseburger with fries was calling my name. I got the classic American meal: cheeseburger, fries and a coke. We grabbed a table outside. No fancy frills here folks. Just charm and good food. What can I say - great counter seating in a little place that seats maybe 16 in lovely south Minneapolis. Right on the 4 bus line, so easy to venture to from, say, a downtown hotel. Excellent pancakes, omelets, eggs - I usually go for breakfast but the lunch burger ain't bad either. Staff is always friendly and neighborhood regulars make up a fair amount of the clientele. If you like old school diners and good straightforward breakfast by all means come here. Note - a few nights a week this place hosts a pop up Sri Lankan, Indonesian and Ayurvedic curry restaurant. Horrible customer service The Waiter is very prejudiced and outta pocket me and my husband we literally sat at the bar and watch her greet and service customers as if we were not sitting at the bar waiting to be serviced she wiped everyone's area off except ours. She gave everyone water before us. There were two parties came after us. She service them before us. They even had hot tea while we sit with a nasty countertop, and no water very unacceptable. Extremely overrated and the staff was rude. Went here with a friend for brunch based off the great reviews. The place was tiny, so we sat on the stools right across from the grill. I noticed, while we were looking over the menu, that they fry bacon and sausage in the same place they make eggs and pancakes. I am kosher. So I asked the woman cooking if she'd be willing to wipe the grill down or cook my stuff in a different spot on the grill. This is something that I ask at most diners and they never have a problem. I explained that I was kosher for religious reasons. She refused. And she was INCREDIBLY rude about it. My friend and I were so appalled that we left. I can't recommend this place at all. Of the restaurant I've been to in Minnesota, this is by far my favorite. The service was outstanding. It is run by two people the cook and a waitress. They were both so friendly even when it was busy. It's a small place so expect to wait for a little while (15 minutes). Now to the food, incredible. I have been a loyal customer here for years. I prefer "to go", especially since the pandemic. I love their Breakfast Sandwiches. I buy one at least 15 times a year. I called & a woman answered & said we are NOT TAKING ANY TO GO ORDERS TODAY, & hung up on me before I could say a word. I understand they were busy. I did not let it ruin my day, but I found an alternative. Today, I thought I would try again. I called, a woman answered and asked me to "hold". I was driving/working, not too far from the restaurant. I was not on "Hold" technically, because I could hear every word being spoken by her. 0nce, she said "how can I help you" so loud, to a customer at the counter, I thought she was talking to me! She was not:( I kept driving to OurKitchen & was psyched to get one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches:) The place was busy, but there was a stool available. I sat down, still had my phone connected to the store. She said hello, asked me if I wanted to order. I said yes, I would like to get a sandwich to go, and I have been on the phone with you for the last 8 minutes hoping you would pick up. She looked at her phone, said "no you are not" while she disconnected me.....as i showed her the live connection on my phone, she hung up her phone, then went to the counter down a few seats & starting talking with another group of customers, & ignored me. I waited for a couple minutes, & decided I needed to go elsewhere for food in the future. Just a heads up to the restaurants & businesses out there trying to survive &compete. When you treat customers who regularly visit your business, sing praises about your food & the breakfast sandwiches to everyone they know, tip well, & despite being disappointed in a big way the last time, try again to have an enjoyable experience, & RUDENESS is your response, I just cannot seem to convince myself I should go back again, or suggest anyone else does the same.
