Just had breakfast at Our Kitchen in Minneapolis and it was absolutely phenomenal. Fresh, flavorful, cooked perfectly in a small old-school 1941 cafe with a classic feel. The service was friendly, fast, and the prices were more than fair. Instantly feels welcoming. Highly recommend!

Classic cozy little counter service diner with yummy pancakes, house made hash browns and super friendly service. It's tiny so expect a wait. Portions are generous so go put your name on the list and walk a few blocks before your meal to build up an appetite.

LOVE the blueberry pancakes and sausage. Sweet tiny place just down from Bogart's with maybe 18 stools. The prices are great. The only thing that needs work is the coffee. I wish I could bring my own because the food deserves better, but it won't stop me from coming for the yummy scratch pancakes and sausage.

Fantastic, classic diner in south Minneapolis for those mornings when you need burnt coffee, greasy hash browns, and a pancake the size of your head. It checks all the boxes of a fast-order breakfast joint. 10 top counter? Check. Will you smell like butter and breakfast sausage from a tube the rest of the day? Absolutely. I wouldn't want it any other way. The server and cook were friendly and we got a nice cup of (perfectly) bitter coffee to help take the edge off a rough Sunday of one too many. At 7:30 it was relaxed but folks were starting to roll in when we left around 8am. I'll say if you want a gourmet experience you're on the wrong place. Everything comes prepackaged except the pancakes. Sausage squeezed from a plastic wrapper, Sysco bread, and potatoes from a tub. But that's exactly what I want from a diner! I'm here because I'm hungover; not to chat with James Beard. Hash browns have 2 cups of clarified butter dumped on them and are pressed and left until perfectly tender with a crispy shell. 10/10 would upset my cardiologist again. Sausage is classic. Pepper and sage forward. Smashed to give lots of crispy lacing. Eggs were scrambled well and not rubbery at all. The fact that you can get a plate-sized pancake as a carb vs toast is the best part. They're scratch made and pretty good. Nice and tangy from the buttermilk while being relatively fluffy. Could use more seasoning overall but it hit the spot. Overall it scratched my Waffle House itch at a higher price point and slightly better quality. I'll definitely be back more often for the pancake and free refills.

Eggs, bacon and hash browns - sub one pancake for the toast. It's a lot of food and really good!

Talk about a classic Minneapolis kitchen/dinner. It's small, food comes out fairly fast, and in very large portions. Love the owners and if you are craving large pancakes and house fried potatoes, this is the place for you!

I can confidently say I've had the most satisfying/comforting meals at Our Kitchen, whether or not i've had a little too much to drink the night before - there's something about a greasy diner breakfast that nothing else can top. I usually go with the Kitchen Special which comes with a big mug of hot coffee that's refilled before you realize you need a refill; two eggs; a generous serving of crispy hash browns that are cooked in a copious amount of butter (which are like crack when you take your first bite, just extremely satisfying;) a flattened, crisp, lacy sausage patty; and a ginormous, fluffy, flavorful pancake (or toast... get the pancake!) There's definitely enough food to require a take home container (things reheat well in an air fryer.) There's ketchup, a few different hot sauces, and syrup if needed, I usually go with the blueberry hot sauce on everything except my pancake. It's very cozy (there's not a lot of room inside) and it isn't the quickest place to get breakfast (sometimes there's one person running the place (taking orders, cooking, taking payments, etc.)

Such a cute little local spot! Took my friend for a quick breakfast. It is quite small so if it isn't nice enough to sit outside, expect to sit at the bar or window bar area. We ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. It was busy so service was a little slow but the food was great. The bacon was perfectly cooked. I definitely want to stop by in the summer so I can sit outside!

This place is tiny, tiny. They have a long bar and that you can watch them cook and then 2 more that look out the window. I don't think more than 20 people can fit in there at once. But, don't let that stop you. The food is excellent and it's pretty cool watching them make the food right in front of you.

Bacon, Eggs, Hashbrowns, pancakes, and French toast

Probably the best breakfast I've ever had in my entire life. Everything cooked to perfection, with the best most hospitable staff you could ask for. I travel 10x more than any of you reading this and this breakfast place is king. We fly 3 hours literally just to eat the breakfast during Christmas time, or whenever our cravings can't take it. Our last trip we came to Our Kitchen every single day we were in Minneapolis, and will be coming back. Counting down till the next trip!

This little breakfast place gave me feeling of warm and active. Everything is delicious and people are up and going. Very small for the group of people, so you probably have to wait to get seats. Foods were big portion, couldn't even finish mine lol. Service feels like I'm in NYC, she was fast and get to the point, I like that style of service so it was great.

I'm obsessed with Al's breakfast in dinkytown for the retro vibes and tiny local place, so I've been really excited to try Our kitchen for the similarity. It lived up to the hype and is a great brunch option in the Uptown area! We waited around 20 minutes at 10:30 on a Sunday. With the limited seating and singular grill to prepare food, it was a longer brunch experience but definitely worth it. The staff were friendly and efficient at bringing people in and out. I tried the pancakes with blueberries and chocolate chips and would definitely recommend them. Very buttery and on the denser side, which I prefer. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends but the food and vibes will be worth it!

Another order we saw going out that looked amazing!

I ordered the Nashville Hot chicken and it was incredible. It was crispy, oversized, extremely hot, I was crying after eating it. My girlfriend got the eggs Benedict, which she loved, and I stole some of. The real star of this restaurant is the donuts and spicy cheese curds though. I would literally travel back to Minneapolis just for those. I think I dream about them in my sleep. The vibe is great inside, it's retro, but not in a try-hard way. Solid service as well they're just so sweet and local. Must try spot if you're visiting Minneapolis.

The veg was a very not cut correctly: chunks of green bell peppers and over chunky sliced onions that were not cooked through. Please stop being lazy and chop your veg and cook the onion . Green salad was hot Not impressed. And the Bloody Mary mix is sub par. However, the diner is cute and service is good. Second visit: had to sit at counter which is fine. They were busy. The bad: Bloody Mary's were flat and expensive $13 each. No depth of flavor, thought we would give them a second chance. . Ordered croquette madame. Egg was severely undercooked - the egg white was gelatatinous and the bread way too thick, ham fatty and subpar, where were you Béchamel? I took a bite of my breakfast and he hands me a box at the end when I asked for the check--not asking if anything is wrong. Two bites out of the spring mix salad and sandwich. Bloody Mary full. $70 for a salad, madame croquette, slow service which is no problem. It's a tiny diner and around lunch time. No worries there. But uncomfortable dining service because we could feel the tension between the server and bartender. Again for me? NBD but my daughter did not appreciate this. The good: the Mediterranean salad was delicious according to my daughter. She had the same thoughts about the Bloody Marys. Super cute beer backs- pony miller high life. I brought the croque madame home and my son loved it. Went on and on about how amazing it was. In all fairness my adult kids loved their food. He did microwave it to cook the egg through. Yes I know I am picky because I worked in the restaurant industry for over 22 years. And I can make better food at home. I just expect a bit more if I am going to drop $70 for two lunch entrees and two drinks. Not including the tip. Bottom line: I would not go back for this very expensive diner that doesn't know how to properly cook simple things. Or chop veg. Or make a drink.

Being a breakfast aficionado, I have no idea why it took me so long to get to Al's. My husband, who is out of the house a lot more than me, has been there several times. He has been trying to get me to go there for months. And finally we made it in February. At the time, with all the political things going on in Minneapolis, Yelp actually told me I could not write a review at the time. So I am glad now that I can come back and leave this five-star for them. So as many have said, Al's is about as old school diner as you can get. One line of stools, 14 seats or something like that. Just like Matt's Bar, there's an impossibly tiny grill and the chef makes the most amazing things on it! My husband adores the wally blues pancakes. I do think they are super tasty. They have nuts and berries and are just about the most tasty pancake you've ever had. Get one to share even if you order something else. He got the corned beef hash, which looked like basically everything you would ever want that dish to be. I got the classic benedict (the dish by which I judge all breakfast places). It was SO GOOD. It's an english muffin and a big thick slice of ham, plus the perfectly poached eggs. But the real true thing that makes this dish just baller is the generous helping of hollandaise sauce. Thick and luscious and seriously the most lemony hollandaise I have ever ever tasted. It was so good. I tried to be a lady but eventually was just sticking my finger in the leftover sauce and licking it like a toddler. I would have seriously licked the plate. The guy behind the counter smiled and said, "Yeah, our hollandaise sauce will ruin you." And he was right. Can't wait to go back for another helping. Cash only, no bathroom, street parking. Come prepared. We happened to go close to the 1 p.m. closing time and didn't have to wait at all. Pro tip.

Went right at open, 6am, and the place (10 seats) was already mostly full. It's about as old-timey diner as you can get. Wood paneling, cash only, watching the line cooks work, and a-la-carte menu. Everyone was friendly and I love the inclusive, anti-ice vibe. Unfortunately that's kind of where the highlights end and mediocrity begins. I would describe everything as "fine" but that may be partially due to my pancake preferences. They were definitely the dense and, well, slightly gummy pancakes I don't really like. That's opposite the crispy, lacy ones at Al's and fluffy buttermilk ones at Our Kitchen. Not to mention it's like $3/oz for actual maple syrup. My partner got an egg, sausage, toast meal and it is what says on the tin. I think it's good, and I love the community support from management, but definitely riding the "institutional" status for business. I think I'd prefer Al's if in the area and Our Kitchen if South.

My daughter and I ordered the same thing with slight variations--Two Eggs, Potatoes, and Toast. I chose the Hen Potatoes which were amazing! Tender on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside--not greasy at all. My daughter had the hash browns, which were just as good--not greasy, but perfectly crisp and flavorful. The seven grain toast and jam were great and our scrambled eggs were cooked just how we like. My daughter also ordered a fruit cup, which was filled with a bigger variety of fruit than she expected and she loved it. I ordered a side of bacon and it was delicious. While the food wowed us, our service was just okay. She was polite enough, but did not check on us until we were well into our meal. Thankfully, we didn't need anything.
