It's affordable, family-friendly, and offers plenty of kid-friendly menu options. The service was extremely friendly, the food was good, and the private parking lot made visiting convenient. Very bad service, overly expensive diner food. We were excited to try out this iconic restaurant while visiting St Paul, but we were quickly disappointed. We arrived and waited for a few minutes. The server eventually came out from the back and told us to sit anywhere. No greeting, no niceties. We skated over to a booth, as the floors had a layer of grime on them and were very slippery. The decorations were very cool. We definitely got the 50s diner vibe. Our server came over and took our order. She had zero personality. There were no introductions and she kept the conversation to one word sentences. She treated us like she'd rather have us leave then stay an eat. We were friendly throughout the dining experience. We did notice that the server was very pleasant with the other staff and all the male patrons, calling them "hon" and asking them if they need anything else. She did not extend any of these courtesies to our table of two women. It was bizarre and completely ruined our final experience in St. Paul. The food was overly expensive for very so-so diner food. The sausage patties were dried out. The eggs were overcooked. The rest was just fine, but not worth the price of over $40 for two basic meals (during the early bird time period) and two coffees. Lastly, it seemed like the smoke from the flat top was vented, but there was a smell of old cooking oil lingering in the restaurant. The whole experience was not good. It was one of the worst dining experiences we've had, and we do not expect or require a lot. We make no alterations to our food and we're friendly diners and tip well. What an easy and quick place to dine at! I've been meaning to stop by, and I was lucky enough to get the chance tonight! The space is quite cozy and maintains the old school diner feel, which I really enjoyed. The staff was super nice and very fast. They gave me good suggestions and I went with it. I ended up with the spudnick and hashbrowns. The spudnick was like a big Mac, but much tastier. I also liked the hash browns a lot, they had good flavor, but a touch of salt made them amazing. Let me start by saying, I feel the people who leave a bad review for this place, don't understand it is historic and still pumping out classics. Are they reinventing the wheel here? No. Are you going to get a classic meal that is done well? Yes! There is free parking right next to the diner car! We were greeted right away and both the cook and server were lovely! They were friendly and fast! The ambiance is just so cool here! This car diner has been here for SO long and it's crazy to think about all of the people and celebrities that have had the pleasure of eating here! It has also been in movies and tv shows! Very cool! The food was delicious! The fries were so crispy and golden! The burger was done well and we just had to try a famous pancake and French toast slice! Had never been here but always heard it was great. Finally got the opportunity to go with some friends for a birthday. We all walked in and sat down. Got our orders in quickly and they cooked it up. I got a omelet and a pancake. Omelet was OK, they burned my bacon, but the pancake was perfection. Love the look from the outside and the feel of a old school diner on the inside. Truly felt like a religious experience finally making it into Mickey's Dining Car. I started at the top of the menu with America's Favorite All Day Meal because I know I'll be returning. In the food photograph I wish I had moved the turkey ham so you could see the incredible hash browns. I ordered the eggs basted and they were done to perfection. The homemade hashbrowns were done to perfection in butter and quite crisp. All of the non-beef meat items were turkey based. This does not surprise me as it offers them a greater audience of diners. One waitress on staff along with the cook and a dishwasher. She was attentive and help when I had a couple of questions. This is a historic, smaller restaurant. Total seating capacity is 36 persons with half of that being swivel stools. I was there on a late-Sunday afternoon. The longer I was there the more diners who walked in. I had a corner booth in the back and had a view of the entire restaurant. It's a classic diner with classic diner food. I'll definitely be back! read more

How could you not. This place is the original classic. Breakfast is the specialty, the americas favorite has it all with eggs any meat, hash browns and of course toast. The bread is very fresh. What can I say? A true St Paul classic. I used to work in downtown St Paul and Mickey's was definitely a place to go. Honestly I haven't been to this iconic place in years but I have fond memories. You can sit cheek to cheek with other customers while you watch the cooks perform their tasks and maneuver their way from griddle to counter and back or sit away from the counter and get more traditional service. Either way it's pretty crowded and depending upon day and time you could see quite a line ahead of you. Grub is hearty (arguably not heart healthy but whatever) pretty straightforward diner fare. And is a decent value as I recall. Coffee is darn good. Its fun to reminisce but now I'm inspired to try a more recent experience. Parking can get a bit dicey. Friendly people. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but you have to try it at least once if you're in the vicinity. read more

There are booths and tables to sit at. On weekends it can get very busy. The staff is amazing and friendly. The moment we entered we were welcomed. Mickey's definitely has a family vibe for everyone to enjoy. We ordered a Veggie Omelette and the Earth's Special (hashbrowns, cheese, onions, tomatoes). The portions are huge and price point is very good considering price inflation everywhere in dining. We recommend everyone to try Mickey' Diner. I'm so happy the iconic Mickey's dinner in downtown St Paul was able to open back up. This place is a part of history. I love the old converted train car! Breakfast is served all day and is really great portion sized for the price! I was made a specialty coffee drink at our visit and it was coffee shop quality. The staff is very friendly even when they are really busy! The seating is minimal and my favorite place to sit is right at the counter! They do not take reservations and the parking is only able to hold a handful of patrons. read more

The food is just mediocre, the service slow, and the building dirty, leaning towards gross. I would not recommend. We arrived at 11:15 on a Friday morning, we were seated at 11:25, and had our order taken by 11:30. Our food came at 12:05. The waitress and bus boy work together well. I did get my coffee cup refilled, once, in the hour we were there. We saw at least 4 parties give up and leave because of the wait time. The single bathroom has no lock on the entry door, and no functioning lock on the stall, so no ensured privacy. The sink only has cold water. The walls, fan grilles, and accessories have not been cleaned in recent history. It's a nostalgic structure that is falling apart. There are booth jute boxes, but I am unsure if they work. Went here for a breakfast on our way home. Ambiance gets 5*, you are truly stepping back into time. After that, it is just Ok. I will say that this place makes Waffle House look like a hospital as far as cleanliness. This place needs a serious deep cleaning. As for the food, the beef bacon was very good. Let me see first of all that I think the waitress Tristan is awesome. I'm sure I spelled her name wrong. Lol. And even the gruff cook, probable owner, was great to me last time because I didn't have enough money for my bill and he covered for me. But I have to admit that every time I go here, I am literally in the bathroom for days afterwards. This last time, I had to take 3 days off of work! Yes it was super intense. The first time it happened I thought it was a fluke but now I'm kind of thinking that it's got to be something in the food. I don't think I can risk going back here. Mickey's used to be open 24/7, 7-days a week, 365 days a year forever until Covid or more appropriately The State of Minnesota shut them down for Covid. Now finally reopened! I truly had high hopes, but the family diner sold. Mickey's is reopened but without bacon, without ham, without sausage. I mean without REAL bacon, REAL ham and REAL sausage. No pork products at all. Sad day in the U.S.A. Imitation bacon, imitation sausage. No pork products. Imitation beef bacon & imitation turkey bacon. This is not the Icon that was the original Mickey's Diner. It is fake like it's bacon. It's not even open 24/7? The original Icon Mickey's never closed until Minnesota closed it down and now it looks like it's lost forever. read more

Good service. A sweet older woman was our waitress. Very attentive and kind. The place is small and a little cramped but the local folks are kind and friendly. The food is HORRIBLE. I ordered an omelette which was so sub par. Did not come with toast or potatoes. The place is a halal diner now (ya know, Minnesota) and that makes the "bacon" and sausage turkey instead of pork. Both are dry and chewy. It was expensive. 80 bucks for 3 adults and a toddler. All had eggs. I definitely would not recommend. If you go, you'll surely agree. read more
