Was killing some time in the general area so decided to stop by Tipsy Steer with a friend. We stopped in at about 2 pm on a Friday and since we had spent a lot of time outside that day, we decided to sit inside. It's located conveniently on the way to the airport on Hiawatha, and has a nice sizable parking lot to make stopping here a breeze. You can either order at the front or at your table using QR codes. I hadn't been to this location but I had been to one of the others and so I had a good idea of what I was getting into. It offers a good place to hang out and talk while drinking a beer and having a munch. The food isn't mind blowing or anything but it's definitely solid for a bar restaurant. A great place to stop when you're in the neighborhood. We were biking near Minnehaha Falls, and wanted to eat at that restaurant there. We love that restaurant, but the line is insane. We looked at yelp and found this to be the closest comparable restaurant. They have a very creative drink menu, considering that they don't have a liquor license so things are made with beer and wine. I enjoyed my drink my sister not quite as much. They do have a selection of vegetarian items. We just ordered some nachos and they were very tasty. It is definitely a place that I would go back to if I were in the neighborhood. We came here for lunch once and the experience was bad. The food was overpriced and not that good. You order at the counter and get a buzzer to come collect your food and the wait was long (it wasn't that busy). Most of the tables hadn't been cleaned off, so maybe we came after a rush? NUTSHELL VERSION: 1/ Several local guests at the auto show recommended this local chain. 2/ I was so impressed by the creative menu that I snapped shots of it to pull inspiration from in my own kitchen. 3/ After starting on our meals, several of the auto show ride and drive teammates who I was spending the day with started perusing the menu again for additional meals to order and take back to their hotel for later. _____ With a name like Tipsy Steer, one might expect a steakhouse, perhaps with a brewery spin. Nope. We did a double-take when we all walked into a bright, airy interior with a casual café vibe. There were printout menus stacked by a register at the counter. We grabbed them (not realizing that each table had a stack of menus, whoops!) and took up a large table to peruse the delightfully creative offerings. Making choices proved to be difficult for all of us. There was one front-of-house attendant flitting about, a bright smile on her face throughout the while. She was warm, welcoming, attentive, informative, and a joy to interact with. Everyone's food arrived at the table with Insta-worthy presentation, generously portioned, and - most importantly - everyone's dish wowed them - except mine, which was decent. I'll definitely be bringing more MN visitors by to explore one of the three Tipsy Steer locations of the Twin Cities and see if I don't find a dish or two that wows me as well. read more

Came here on a Monday night, and it was pretty busy, which is always a good sign! They had a great BOGO 1/2 off burger deal on Mondays, which was a nice surprise! We had planned on getting some dinner quick before heading to Minnehaha falls for a fun date night but it ended up raining so we stuck around and had a nice relaxing meal. Everyone was super sweet and fun! I ordered the aged cheddar and bacon burger, and it was fantastic - juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. I asked for extra pickles and they gave me a heaping that I was thrilled about. My husband got the regular cheeseburger with the deal, and he was also pretty happy with his choice. He also tried one of their N/A beers and really enjoyed it, which is great to see more options like that available. We also ordered the dry rub wings as an appetizer, and unfortunately, these were a bit of a miss for us. They were on the smaller side and a little dry, lacking the punch we hoped for from a dry rub. Overall, the burgers were definitely the highlight, and the N/A beer selection was a pleasant surprise. The wings could use some improvement. We've eaten here a few times because it's convenient, food and service is consistently good. Stopped in this time for the walleye fish fry and a shrimp po boy. Fish was seasoned and cooked well, maybe adding a little coleslaw to round out the plate would help with the price tag. Although I liked the po boy, I thought the grilled peppers were a weird add. This is a sit down restaurant, and you order at the counter. My companion and I both had burgers. They had the Gorgonzola burger and I had a cheeseburger. On both the grease was just running down our fingers. Tasted good, but we were greased-out by the time we were done and neither of us finished our burgers; there was a bit of bone in their burger too. The side salads honey lemon vinaigrette was much more honey than vinaigrette. I upgraded to the onion rings and it was $2, and I got two rings. We stopped off the light rail on our way to a Twins Game. Happy hour is Monday -Friday 4pm-6pm. $5 drafts!! And Mondays are buy one burger get one 50%. I had the lil spicy which wasn't that spicy but the Brie was amazing! Lil spicy had two patties which I would have preferred one because of the excess grease but the overall burger was delicious. This newish location of the Tipsy Steer occupies the same place as (if you are old enough to remember) Caps. Based upon my observation the place is ultra casual and family friendly. There is also outside dining whenever the weather is cooperative. The staff were welcoming and enthusiastic. The food was well prepared and promptly delivered. Anyway the interior looks very similar with a few "Tipsy" touches. To repeat, the drill is that you order from the counter (fronting the kitchen) and then one gets a table where your food and beverages are subsequently delivered. I had a very satisfying Bacon Cheeseburger with a heap of very good fries on the side. I also had a flavorful lemonade which was likely hand crafted as was indicated by the delay in delivery well after raspberry iced teas had been brought to the table. I thought the burger had an appealing beefiness and the two patties made it huge. The buttered bun was toasted and a fine accompaniment to the burger. The fries were thickly cut, non-greasy and nicely seasoned. My two friends had the basic cheese burger (also with fries) which they both liked a lot. The menu has been greatly expanded since the Cap's days and appeared to offer numerous tasty items. A parking lot is between this location and a light rail station. If the parking lot is full there is ample free on-street parking. I for one will likely be back. read more

The only thing missing is someone to actually take my order...at my table, like at a restaurant ! They had more than enough people bringing out food, cleaning tables, providing service...why is taking an order to much to ask? The Brussel sprouts were OK and way over-priced. The food was decent it's nothing that will make me come back for. It was not very flavorful. The portion size is okay they charge 2 dollars for two onion ring definitely not worth the price. The service is mediocre. They do a little below the bare minimum. We asked for spoons and the gentleman came back and just dropped them on the bare table. Which was poorly wiped down. There was hair in my water. And around my cup. The to go boxes are kept near the floor. Which is strange to me and unhygienic. Over all it was very dirty and I felt so icky inside. my husband and I randomly dropped in yesterday (a Friday) with our two toddlers after a Nokomis walk. The restaurant was packed but the wait was just 20 minutes so we decided to risk it. Our kids were restless and it was pretty clear to everyone there that we were struggling to keep them entertained, but we stayed because we had a long drive home and the kids were hungry. When we got a table, the person who sat us (assuming the owner or manager) came back within 5 minutes with warm pretzels and the most amazing cheese dip and said "thank you for your business, this is on me." This restaurant is located in south MPLS, right off Hiawatha and is at a light rail stop. I am a sucker for bang bang shrimp and pretzels. I was looking for a new place to try and this restaurant is one worth coming back to. Due to the location, the parking lot and restaurant is a little on the smaller side, but we had no problem finding a table at 7pm on a Sunday. You seat yourself and order either through your phone or at the counter. We were trying to have a cheaper dinner in the twin cities and $40 got us a main dish and two appetizers (plus tip - the female cashier was super friendly). Based on other Yelper's reviews, I tried the short rib grilled cheese, and it did not disappoint. The sandwich itself was huge. I split that with my partner. It's served with a lot of meat, and topped with a fried green tomato. Great taste and not over salted like sandwiches can be at times. The side of fries were some of the best thicker cut fries I've had and they were served hot! The bang bang shrimp tasted great, but there wasn't any heat to them (spice wise).
