I wish I could give this place more than three stars. The space is great, with an indoor/outdoor feel. And it's located in a neighborhood that I'd like to support. But the food is average to meh. Likewise with the service. For $35 entrees and $20 cocktails, I expect better. A small example: if your menu is going to offer "frites" with bearnaise instead of plain old "French fries," it might be a good idea to actually serve them with a side of bearnaise rather than plain old ketchup, which came with our meals (even if the ketchup comes in a little ramekin rather than a bottle). In other ways, as well, our meal didn't walk the talk that the menu suggested. It felt overpriced for dishes where lots of salt and fat seemed to take the place of truly complex, well-harmonized flavors. Service: at the time I made our reservation, I referenced that my party would be celebrating a family birthday. There was no acknowledgment of this by the restaurant's staff at any time during our visit. Even little things like this matter. After being seated, no one poured water for our group. Appears that this is a "self serve" thing; if you're thirsty, pour your own water. We waited at least 10 minutes for our server after being seated. After our meal was served, our server did not come back to check in until it was time to ask if we were ready for dessert. We decided to skip dessert. We probably won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

A side is increíble! I love coming here for the vibe of the restaurant and quality of the food! The chicken dish, I can't remember what it's called is sooooooo good!! It's incredibly comforting and just hits the spot if you're looking for a rich meal!! The ribeye is incredible, honestly all the food I e had here is great! After driving by this place all the time, we knew we needed to give it a try! Unfortunately this place just didn't do anything for us. There is free street parking around this place. The hostess was nice and sat us right away. This place does get busy, so I would recommend a reservation! The first thing we noticed was that there wasn't anything to notice... no decor... no character... it honestly felt like a chipotle with nothing... just plain walls. Our server was nice but MIA for most of our time there. When she did stop, it was very quick. It did not feel personable. The food: the waitress said she would bring things out as they were done but ended up bringing everything at once... the mocktail pineapple, coconut refresher was not worth it. You could not taste any type of coconut and it seemed very ginger heavy. The baguette with butter came out, almost burnt, and was very hard to eat. The wings had good flavor, but were small and dry. My boyfriend did really enjoy his burger (Justine's burger) and said that it had great flavors. I did try his fries and those were some of the best fries I've had in the Twin Cities! Delicious brunch spot with a cute interior. There is outdoor seating which is nice on a warm sunny day. We had a reservation at ~09:45am, and the restaurant was decently busy. There were still some empty seats around, so perhaps the earlier the better. The Tiramisu Cold Press was pretty good. I didn't think it was anything special though since it didn't seem to give the "wow" factor that would make me want to come back just to have it. Biscuits and Gravy were okay too. The gravy was delicious, but same sentiment as the Tiramisu Cold Press in which I didn't feel like it was anything too special. It is still good, and a beautiful brunch spot to catch up with friends Service was alright. Our server was nice! Though we were a bit confused since we had like 2-3 people asking to take our order? And towards the end I had asked for a to-go box and wasn't brought one, until another server asked if we wanted the check and I had to ask again for a to-go box. I came here cause I could get a good parking spot. It was comfortable in spite of a wide open door at the bar. Most people seem to get burgers. I got the classic A side burger. Just delicious. They put on lots of thinly sliced sweet pickles. Basil ordered bacon on his. A nice strong iced tea with loose raw sugar offered. We get a Caesar salad whenever we can. Everything was great. First time at a-side and it's a really cool space that was once a fire house. Got the hot honey chai which was delicious, though it took a while to be dropped off. Very warm and comforting and the spice from the chai itself and the slight heat from the cayenne was great. The shirred eggs were super filling and very yummy. The creaminess and cheesiness of the eggs on the crunchy, thickly sliced toast was excellent. I put the greens on the bread since I don't like bitter greens and it tasted good together. There was also a lot of prosciutto lining the bottom of the bowl, I didn't feel like it was skimped on. I did want a waffle but was disappointed to learn they don't do side orders. The curried vegetable dumplings are certainly unique but delicious. A little pricey for only 4 dumplings. The pear and prosciutto flatbread is large enough to share - could be substantial enough as a main entree. The bulgogi bowl is a nice interpretation - the beef is a bit tough and chewy but maybe I got more rough meat than is typical? The kimchi is delicious. I've been to A-Side a few times now & I really like it. It's a solid spot for fresh homemade tasting meals. Pictured is their Dip Duo hummus plate + aperol spritz. We have once had so-so apps with drinks but we were foolish and tried their brunch. It was like a miracle of physics: All of the "food" managed to be overcooked and ice cold at the same time. I could have had food at Denny's for a third the price and it would have seemed like a feast in comparison. Make sure you make a reservation before going because they get busy. Inside is on the louder side and tables are fairly close together but didn't bother us. The Benedict was good, sauce was a bit too heavy for me. The English muffin was nicely toasted. Hash browns were gross! No salt or flavor, just straight potato. Biscuits and gravy were delicious and had a good amount of gravy. You can really taste the mushroom and the big chunks of sausages added a good texture to it. The Dutch baby was different than your normal pancake and tasted more like a flatbread with a ton of butter on top. If you want to add whipped cream only it'll cost you $1 for just a tiny bit! Kids burger was delicious according to my daughter and the fries are more on the thin soggy side. Plenty of street parking and they actually have a small parking area next to the restaurant. I had the Aisle burger which has the making of all your favorite things--bacon, gorgonzola, a cherry aioli. Honestly I could just use a bit more topping! My partner had the braised short rib--a tender, great portion, that just needed a touch of salt! The standout from our evening was our server who answered many questions and sent over a complimentary Requin Marteau cocktail for us to try. My date is a vegetarian and ordered the pot pie. Flaky, fresh and also amazing. The curry dumpling app is a fave. Friendly and prompt service and a complimentary slice of carrot cake one evening, of course, left me an even bigger fan. It was also delicious!
