Went here on a whim after picking up a friend from a medical procedure where she hadn't eaten in many hours. We rolled out to Bloomington and found a decent sized parking lot right with the restaurant. Greeted immediately by friendly staff and were treated like special out of town guests by all the employees we encountered. Our server, Gustavo, was fantastic and we wanted for nothing the entire time. The restaurant is crisp looking and inviting, and in the Goldilocks way, just right size-wise. The food is locally sourced as much as possible and the meals were fantastic. Portion sizes are generous and you're able to order breakfast or lunch anytime. We went back a second time this week after a routine veterinary appointment. The same information applies to this visit too. We met and talked with the owners both visits and they are friendly, knowledgeable and seem to really enjoy their work. Dogs are allowed on the patio (enclosed and heated) although my dogs stayed in the car this time. We ordered scones to take away on visit two. Had a great Sunday brunch at Perk Up Eatery with a couple of friends! It was my first time trying it, and it was such a fun spot for a relaxed brunch. We even sat outside and enjoyed the fall weather. I started with the Maple Cold Brew Old Fashioned, made with Bulleit Bourbon, espresso liqueur, cold brew, maple syrup, and bitters. It was such a fun twist on an Old Fashioned - rich, coffee-forward, and just the right amount of sweet. For brunch, I ordered the Sunday in Italy - roasted red peppers, bruschetta tomatoes, artichokes, spinach, garlic, Gouda, fontina, and Gruyère topped with pesto. It came with greens with their house maple vinaigrette. Lots of flavor and definitely a satisfying brunch dish. Instead of toast, I upgraded for a gluten-free chocolate muffin, which was a nice little sweet treat to finish things off. The interior and exterior vibe are cool and inviting but it's the menu that really makes breakfast here a special experience. Each item is a little work of art in flavor, creativity, visual appeal, and the trendy/classic balance. Let's talk some of these menu items that impressed. Any good breakfast starts with good coffee and juice. The coffee is great and the orange juice is obviously fresh squeezed - the bright flavor that greets your mouth first sip proves it. We chose a variety of different kinds of items. I went sweet with the Strawberry Cornbread waffle. The flavors were a taste of strawberry heaven with its fresh strawberries PLUS a syrupy compote, honey butter and whipped cream. My husband likes to go hearty with layered potato and egg dishes so he went the distance and got the Breakfast Poutine. Layers of goodness in every forkful. What really ties this one together is the white sausage gravy. My kids always choose pancakes but a shout out to the scotch square accompaniment to the kids meal. A little stolen nibble reminded me of when my grandma used to melt butterscotch chips for recipes when I was a kid. Nice touch for kids and their parents reaching across their plates. I would rank this even higher than the bougie, high priced breakfast joints back home (which are struggling to prove their value for me these days). This was our first visit and we really enjoyed it. The inside is really nice and bright. They had a huge outside patio. We had both the biscuits and gravy and breakfast poutine. Both were good but the biscuits and gravy was the favorite. It came with a huge portion of potatoes and the gravy had good flavor. The poutine was good but the hollandaise soaked into the fries quickly and the scrambled eggs were a little overcooked. Wow!!!! What a great find. I knew it would be exceptional when the proprietor/manager held the door open and greeted us. We opted to sit at the bar because it is always a good place to pick up the vibes of staff and watch preparations. There is an open kitchen for all to see and Perk Up was meticulous. Wanted some brunch and this place came up during our search so why not. Located inside a strip food/store plaza so there are plenty of parking. It was pretty packed with no close by parking on a Saturday. We were able to get seated right away since it was the end of brunch time. Service was a little slow at first. We had to wait a little before getting water but seems like there wasn't a lot of worker that day. The food came out pretty quick I would say. Chicken waffle: the chicken portion seems a bit smaller than other places we been two. Basically like 2 chicken tenders on top of a waffle and pretty small. Usually we see the chicken cover the whole waffle from other brunch places. Maybe should add another piece of tender to be honest. I believe the eggs came with the order. Tenders weren't as juicy but k did like the waffle. Chicken wrap: your typical chicken wrap with sweet potato on the side. Also nothing much special. Overall an average place for some brunch options that is nearby. I don't recall there being a lot of options compared to other places I've been to but good enough. I'm already plotting a return trip with the girls to try out their Mimosa Flight. The vibe here is just as good as the food. The space is decorated with adorable, modern touches, and the patio was especially gorgeous today with all the colorful flower pots. The space is beautiful with a fresh summery Aesthetic. The menu has fresh seasonal rotation of options to satisfy all. They're also in the process of expanding a bit with a future outdoor patio areas which will be a great place for spring and summer brunch outings. I got the breakfast sandwich with the bread swapped for their house made focaccia. The sandwich was flavor packed with the pesto and turkey sausage. The bread was light fluffy and had the perfect toast on the inner sections. If you're considering the sandwich I must suggest the bread swap for an amazing sandwich that will be crave worthy! There is a lot to love about this spot. You will find it in a strip mall set deep into Bloomington with plenty of private lot parking. I would never have come here except for an errand that put me out that direction. Now that I know what and where it is, the 15 miles I would need to drive to get to it in the future is totally worth it. It's a bright, modern take on a brunch cafe' with some touches of nostalgia on the walls and the finishing details of the ceiling. Open every day and closed by 2, I love that this husband/wife operation has just about everything made from scratch. Clearly there is a high degree of food integrity here as they work with local purveyors to source great ingredients. They also own their own coffee shop so they serve their own beans that are roasted weekly. While the refillable cup is not cheap ($5), it is definitely a big step above typical diner coffee. There is also a bar here where they have a full menu of interesting brunch cocktails in case it is the kind of day that needs that sort of enhancement. The staff were friendly, helpful and really great about stopping by and conversing with the customers. Clearly they are proud of what they are dishing out and they should be. Everyone in the place seemed like they were in a good mood including the line cooks who were throwing out some outstanding food. I noticed that there were some subtle things suggestive of a nod to Aloha (like guava juice on the beverage list) and found out that the owners just like some Hawaiian taste profiles from a previous vacation visit. I love that they brought this back to the middle of MN. Now, if they would just put a local Hawaiian breakfast special like Spam and Eggs with Rice or Loco Moco on the menu, I would guarantee that I would make the drive there quite often for some of that comfort food from the motherland! Prices here are not cheap but they are also not out of line for what you get. Portions are large and the local sourcing of high-quality ingredients definitely makes you realize that you are getting what you pay for. The service is amazing. It is the perfect little brunch place with both indoor and outdoor seating. It's not a huge place, but I think that's part of the charm. Parking was a bit tough as it's located in a strip mall and shares parking with other businesses. So happy to have such a cute new breakfast spot in the neighborhood! I had been dying to try this new spot since it opened so a friend and I'd decided to visit for a quick brunch. Did you know this used to be a brueggers bagels? With this beautiful revamp, you would never know!! Whenever I go to brunch I have to have an espresso martini. Out of the martinis I have had in the past I would give this one a 3/5. The flavor wasn't bad but the drink kept separating and there was quite a bit of ice in it as well. I also tried their Carmel Apple martini which was delicious! Tasted like a sweet boozy Carmel Apple juice. To start our meal the bartender suggested we try a cinnamon roll. I know it's hard to make a cinnamon roll special, however this one was one of the best I've ever had! She warmed it up nicely and it absolutely melted in your mouth. It was fluffy flavorful and plenty of icing. it also was easily large enough for us two to share. For our main meal we split the breakfast poutine. With this meal you have the option to choose gravy or bearnaise as your sauce. We opted for a traditional gravy poutine. We also requested to do over easy eggs instead of scrambled. This meal was also delicious! I love a good savory breakfast, and even though I'm not often a poutine fan, the mix of sausage, eggs, fries, and gravy, was a huge hit! I sat at the breakfast counter as it was just me. The place was busy and the hostess was friendly. I ordered some coffee and let me tell you it wasn't your typical restaurant coffee. It tasted great and not stall or burnt. The biscuits and gravy were delicious and had the best consistency I have had in a while. I also ordered a side of their Lemon Blueberry ricotta French toast because the last sitting next to me aid it was the best. She wasn't wrong. I'm t had the right amount of sweet and tart. I am not sure I could I've done a full order as I saw it was very generous. The servings were very generous and the service was great. Ahead of visiting town I saw Perk Up Kitchen, and I'm pleased to report our visit introduced locals as well to this sensational restaurant! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful throughout. I had the biscuits and gravy. While it lacked spice (it's likely "Minnesota spicy") the gravy has a LOT of meat. The biscuit is also clearly homemade - it's huge! In addition to that it comes with 2 eggs and very flavorful breakfast potatoes: a ton of food. Other winners were the Parmesan Chicken sandwich (they give you extra sauce), Chicken Wrap, and WSP Chicken Salad sandwich. The interior, even on a cloudy, humid day, was bright and welcoming. With 2 walls of windows, on a sunny day, this place must look really nice. As we look back on our time in town this is the place we remember the most...and wish was out here! read more
