Came here for brunch and loved it. It's tucked into the bottom of an apartment building, so it's a bit unexpected, but once you're inside it has such a luxe, chic vibe. The space feels elevated and really well designed. Parking is a little limited in the lot, but there are additional options across the street which helps. Stopped here for HH/Dinner before a movie w/ a friend. The parking was a bit packed but we were able to find spots in the lot. Wasn't too busy when we arrived but by time we left it was packed. The food is asian fusion, very unique dishes and flavor profiles. I went with Wings and Fries, my friend got wings (a different flavor) and chips and salsa. I honestly didn't care for the wings. the texture of the batter/skin was off putting for me (looks like it would be crispy but pretty soggy). They had a lot of flavor though spice wise. The staff were pretty attentive. They kind of all worked together to do whatever needed to be done to help. Super nice ambiance! They even have a photography policy but you can't see it unless you use the restroom. The bathrooms were even a vibe- cute decor, birds chirping (lofi sounds), and warm hand towels. We stopped by The Starling for an evening date and were pleasantly surprised -- this place strikes a great balance between casual comfort and elevated eats. The ambiance is bright and inviting with a modern but cozy vibe that makes it easy to linger whether you're here for lunch, dinner, or drinks. Our server greeted us right away, offered thoughtful recommendations, and checked in at just the right moments -- it felt genuine and relaxed. Now, the food was Asian fusion I really liked the wings with fish sauce were lovely and I was pleasantly surprised. The two curry dishes we had especially the walleye with green curry was just ok, and kind of bland. The deserts such as the Vietnamese coffee cake and the ube desert were amazing as well as some very good drinks. I would come back for drinks wings and desert. Overall, The Starling delivers a fun experience. A couple small hiccups (the food for the price is just ok, not anything that will blow you away), but plenty of positives to outweigh it. Starling has been one of my go to recommendations since it first opened in 2024, and I am bummed to say it has really taken a turn in the wrong direction. The first time I visited Starling, I had a decent burger, tasty cauliflower, and wings that I would rave about to anyone who would listen. I thought the decor was great for being on the first floor of an apartment building, and it always seemed busy, regardless of being at the bar or dining tables. In the times I've returned since, the quality of the food and the service has continued to slip, and this last visit, my seventh, has left me without any desire to return. I have never written a one star review, and I truly don't like to bash a restaurant, but when something was decent and so evidently has not kept up with standards, I think future guests have a right to know. Our group of four was directed to the back part of the restaurant on December 23rd. There was no music to speak of and it felt desolate and quiet. Despite staff telling us it would fill up, there were only two other parties that eventually made their way into the quiet space looking out onto the parking lot. Our waiter was nice, but came back a few too many times, and didn't seem to have an excellent grasp on the menu. I ordered wine (solid pours), but the old fashioned cocktails that my dining partners ordered (after the waiter gushed on them) were half filled, watered-down and missing that rich color an old fashioned should boast. My biggest disappointment came at the start of the meal from the once-amazing fish sauce caramel wings. These had been a consistent staple during my visits to Starling but I was truly appalled at their presentation. The wings, typically tender white meat with a golden fried finish, normally coated in a rich, umami type fish sauce with a dash of sweetness, were honestly inedible. I believe they may have been baked instead of fried, but regardless, covered in fat, a little too pink in the middle for my liking, and absolutely bland, they were a dramatic shift from prior. When I looked into the bowl to find the precious sauce, a soupy, thin, "fish sauce" swirled around the bottom. Was this their attempt at coating the wings? They were truly so awful that we even left some in the bowl, not a common practice for my family. Next the steamed pork buns, another one of my previously GOATed small dishes from Starling. Surely these would not disappoint? The bun itself was nice and light, sticky and doughy like usual, but the filling was lackluster. The pork was grey, jiggly, and flavorless. The hoisin sauce was the only redeeming quality and the pickled vegetables were overpowering in what should have been simply a garnish. By the time we were ready to order mains, we really weren't interested in anything and even though we picked the kale salad (again, one of my more memorable salads in the past) and the hummus and pita (the only thing that was consistent from times past), we were just deflated. I recall the baby kale salad being more reminiscent of actual kale leaves, with a hearty avocado ranch dressing, thick croutons with pickled onions and a generous portion of shaved parmesan cheese. Instead, the leaves of this salad reminded me of spinach, with only about five croutons, barely-there cheese, and a thin dressing yet again. I really am sad writing this review, but after witnessing Starling's steady decline over the last year, I feel like it is warranted. I know this restaurant group has other great spots (Parlour, Rustica, Borough, P.S. Steak), but some of its more recent openings (Skiki and Mirabelle) have somewhat missed the mark in my experience. My wife and I dropped into the Starling as a whim for a weeknight respite. Located in an upscale apartment house next to the freeway, the Starlings' offbeat location was perplexing. However, the Starling reminded me of the Waterbury Restaurant located in the Waterbury upscale apartment house overlooking Bde Maka Ska. So, what do I know? The space is lovely, with a touch of class. Drinks were poured well, and the staff was upbeat and fun. The menu was eclectic, with many offerings that had an Asian touch. Sadly, I didn't enjoy my pork buns; the pork belly tasted too fatty. Yet, my fries were excellent. Blink and you'll miss driving by this place. It blends into the apartment a little too well. The parking lot is small, but we were able to find a spot just fine. We had two babies with us and they were really accommodating with not only table size but getting us the chairs we needed. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and is a great brunch vibe overall. I really like the incorporation of global flavors (even if I did order a classic breakfast). We also ordered a pancake for the table, obviously. Visited 2/19/25. Starling was a cute place! Attached to an apartment building so a bit less area for parking-factor that in when giving yourself time to get there. By far my favorite thing about it was the staff. Everyone who we came into contact with was amazing, friendly and super helpful throughout the night. From jumping between bartending to serving to food running, we were all very impressed with all of the staff working. Cocktail choices were really fun and we all universally LOVED the tiki twist most of all. I got the Bangkok mojito which was okay in terms of flavor but the tiki twist was delightful. To start our party ordered the pork buns and the green beans. The beans were packed with flavor and I would definitely recommend them. The pork buns were good but the price point (about $7 per bun) felt pretty high for the most part. I felt somewhat similar about the butter chicken tacos which came out later. Liked the Balinese fried rice the most out of our shared entrees; great flavor overall. The chicken yakisoba was pretty good and definitely had me reaching for more throughout. Can't really explain what I mean, but you'd know if you saw it lol. Got seated and served immediately. The space is gorgeous with big tall plants all around - almost felt like we were on a vacation! -The espresso martini was our favorite out of all the cocktails we tried. -We split the wings and fries as an appetizer. This place is very stylist and has a great feel! Overall I would honestly say that I don't know if I would go back anytime soon. The things that were nice, the staff seemed understanding when we had people running late (wasn't busy). The food was good but nothing special, I went for brunch so not sure if the dinner menu is better. The coffee was very good and was impressed with that! For the things that missed the mark, the Bloody Mary costs $15 that comes from a store bought mix that it tasted like and only had a lime and one olive on it. Being obsessed with Okonomiyaki - we have tried many authentic ones and I want to say this one feels much more chewy than the ones I had before. I am more used to the airy fluffy ones. Beautiful vibe and ambience; I really enjoyed the round booths and the green color story. The bathroom was beautifully decorated with bird wallpaper and had bird chirping playing over a speaker. One thing that I think is missing is a sort of identity. Starling birds live all over the world but I think I assumed it was an American-cuisine when I looked this place up. Studying the menu, it has a lot of Asian flavors from Bali, Philippines and India. I can't say that anything on the menu really jumped out at me but what we got was good. Heard the had a happy hour so I had to come for good deals. 5 sticky wings for $9 is a great price, and the wings were delicious. No issues when we arrived finding a spot (11:45 on a Sunday) but no open spots when we left. The 3 stars is highly impacted by the complete lack of feeling welcomed or valued. Visited for a midweek dinner. Immediately loved the decor. The colors, plants, sounds all made for an enjoyable atmosphere. Our group of 7 all ordered drinks which were pretty good. My golden hour was delicious. A few others said theirs were good but hard to distinguish the flavors. We opted for curried cauliflower and hummus plate to start. The cauliflower was one of the best appetizers I've had in a long time. I could've ordered another plate of that just as my main dish! Our entrees varied between tacos and noodle dishes. They were tasty but nearly everyone was suprised at the amount of spice that was in the dishes. It didn't make it inedible but definitely had a bigger kick than expected. A friend and I checked out Starling a week ago and had some mixed feelings. On the one hand, their Steamed Pork Buns are DELICIOUS. If I'd just ordered those, this would be a 5 star review. Maybe it was obvious in the name but we weren't that impressed with it. Turns out naan was the better choice to begin with! The pork belly tacos were much better. I was super excited to try the Ube Tres Leches, but it was just alright -- the Purple Starling cocktail is a better alternative for ube lovers in my opinion. The adobo pork was dry, didn't have anywhere near enough sauce and really didn't taste like adobo. I got the Butter Chicken Taco, my wife got the burger, and we split the fries. We took home a slice of their Ube Tres Leches with purple yams to split for dessert. We both had Old Fashioneds. We ended up canceling our Thursday reservation because of the weather and moved it to Friday. I found it a bit concerning that they were wide open for reservations on a Friday night. Sure enough, when we got there, there were plenty of open tables. Our reservation was for 6:00, and we got there a few minutes early, which was fortuitous since they gave us happy hour prices, which impacted both our food and drink prices. In doing our research, we found that Starling is part of the Jester group of restaurants. Think of Borough, Parlour, P.S. Steak, Butcher & the Boar, and others. We thought they might have stolen the hamburger and Old Fashioned from Parlour, but I think they were both different. Starling's Old Fashioned uses Sichuan bitters. It's not radically different, but it is a bit novel. The Butter Chicken tacos have cilantro, cucumber yogurt, and pickled red onion. All those additions have strong flavors, so the result didn't remind me much of Butter Chicken. Still, it was good. read more

What a beautiful spot! So glad we finally stopped in after driving by a hundred times (on highway 100). The parking was easy at 2pm on a Saturday and we were pleasantly surprised to be able to sit anywhere at the bar and get in on Happy Hour (2-5PM). Amanda was our fantastic bartender that took great care of us. We ordered a Bloody Mary, Aviation Cocktail, Popcorn, Curry Cauliflower and the Burger. We were happy with the flavors of everything! The vibes at starling are high! The space is immaculate and decorated to perfection! Love that there is a nice dinner spot in this corner of Edina. The only downside is there is not much parking but they do have valet. Drinks menu was fantastic, I loved their wine list and enjoyed a few glasses. What most people come for are the cocktails, those are fantastic as well, we got their take on the French 75 and mix with a lychee martini and it was amazing. Honestly would come back just for that! Food selection was good, they have something for everyone. We started with the tacos and those were really good! we got the skirt steak and it was cooked to perfection and the sauces on it were top notch! We also got the burger with a side of fries. I went with a big burger fan and he said it was pretty good but we did take home half. We loved their fries and the dipping sauce with them probs one of our favorite things we ate. I got the green walleye curry and I loved the sauce and the rice but the walleye was just too fishy for me, it was pretty undercooked as well which was a bummer. I did dip my fries in the curry sauce which was amazing, maybe should even make that an option with the fries. We had the best server! He ordered everything to come out just right and went through the drink lists with us and menu effectively! Would come back here again to get those fries and drinks! I received a recommendation on Yelp about this new establishment and decided to visit for both lunch and dinner in two different occasions. Overall I think this is a very solid place that has something for pretty much everyone. My favorite item was the Balinese fried rice, which had a fair amount of cucumber and tomato on the side, along with shrimp paste and shallot in the fried rice with varying spice levels. I highly enjoyed consuming each grain and realized that the dish itself could even satisfy two people's hunger. Absolutely great. I also enjoyed the sticky wings which had a certain level of saltiness due to the fish sauce caramel and crispy garlic. I have never had wings like that and thoroughly enjoyed the taste and the size. The grilled sourdough had an innovative idea with anchovies on top of romenesco, almonds, manchego cheese, and of course, the sourdough bread. However, the anchovies, due to the already extremely salty taste, still ended up overpowering, and as a result didn't manage to offer an enjoyable experience. In addition, the Filipino adobo pork had some really tender braised pork shoulder, but had way too much cane vinegar that resulted in the rice extremely salty, to the point that I wasn't able to even eat it. I think maybe having little vinegar in the bowl, or simply having the vinegar in a small bowl on the side would be better for the dish. I have ordered two desserts, and both are solid choices! The ube tres leches cake had the ube taste and had the wetness of a tres leches, containing condensed milk that heightened the sweetness. The chocolate ganache is what one can imagine from a chocolate fudge, except for the fact that it was Mexican chocolate which resulted in a bit of a stimulating taste, if you have had Mexican chocolate before. Overall, a solid place that I would recommend those around the Edina area to visit. They also had good service and atmosphere which actually make this location a fitting place for a date or a friend hangout. read more

Delicious food, good service and breathtaking atmosphere. Today for lunch on a whim we decided to stop into Starling. We were seated quickly and given menus. My first impression was awe because of the tremendous amount of greenery here. We ordered the hummus, which was so delicious we asked for extra pita bread to finish. It was warm and the flavors were well balanced. Next, I got the Poke bowl which was pretty delicious too. Decent amount of salmon and the jasmine rice was perfectly cooked. Last but not least the kumquat sour was strong and tart, the lemonade was yummy and the ice was engraved with the business logo, super fancy. Molly was great, there was a large free spacious parking lot out front and the wait was not too long! read more

Beautiful ambiance (5/5)! As I walked in the door, I was blown away by the gorgeous art deco aesthetics featuring both natural and modern vibes. It just opened 6 weeks ago, so the place is spotlessly clean. Service was very friendly. Food was pretty good, I would love to come back to try more items from their menu. However, I do believe we're paying more for the ambiance than the food. Here's what we tried: Furikake Popcorn (2/5) very simple, I wouldn't order again unless I was starving upon arrival. Mediterranean Salad (3/5) citrus vinaigrette was nice, I wished for more feta. Tacos (4/5). Butter chicken taco was not spicy despite the chili pictured on the menu. Delicious but a bit messy from extra liquid. Skirt Steak taco was nicely grilled steak slices with a little spice (maybe in the guac). Pork belly taco had a flavorful pork belly but I was unsure if I liked the pate. Restaurant Week also included a menu with Chocolate Ganache dessert (2/5). This restaurant recently opened up in the Edina area and I had to try it while I was in town. The restaurant is so nicely decorated and made you believe you are not in Minnesota. It almost reminds me of a plush lounge in a tropical country. The food was fantastic! I tried the roasted cauliflower (it is slightly spicy even though it's not noted on the menu), the steak taco, the butter chicken taco and the ube tres leches cake. The flavors were all superb and the meats were tender. I only had one small suggestion about the whipped topping on the ube and the wait staff and kitchen staff were very open to feedback and suggestions which was very refreshing. The staff in the restaurant are very friendly and welcoming and have very good recommendations on the food. I would not hesitate to come back here for another meal! read more
