Pork Buns
Phil G.

My wife and I dropped into the Starling as a whim for a weeknight respite. Located in an upscale apartment house next to the freeway, the Starlings' offbeat location was perplexing. However, the Starling reminded me of the Waterbury Restaurant located in the Waterbury upscale apartment house overlooking Bde Maka Ska. So, what do I know? The space is lovely, with a touch of class. Drinks were poured well, and the staff was upbeat and fun. The menu was eclectic, with many offerings that had an Asian touch. Sadly, I didn't enjoy my pork buns; the pork belly tasted too fatty. Yet, my fries were excellent. For us, the Starling is in a location we don't frequent, but if it were nearby, I would stop in again to try their other menu offerings. Our drinks were good.

We ordered half of the menu cuz we're a bunch of fatty hehe

This was my first time at Starling back in April for my birthday. My friend took me out and I decided I wanted to try the Ube Leche cake. I heard it was amazing and yes it was incredibly delicious. We also shared two other dishes.

Visited 2/19/25. Starling was a cute place! Attached to an apartment building so a bit less area for parking-factor that in when giving yourself time to get there. By far my favorite thing about it was the staff. Everyone who we came into contact with was amazing, friendly and super helpful throughout the night. From jumping between bartending to serving to food running, we were all very impressed with all of the staff working. Cocktail choices were really fun and we all universally LOVED the tiki twist most of all. I got the Bangkok mojito which was okay in terms of flavor but the tiki twist was delightful. To start our party ordered the pork buns and the green beans. The beans were packed with flavor and I would definitely recommend them. The pork buns were good but the price point (about $7 per bun) felt pretty high for the most part. I felt somewhat similar about the butter chicken tacos which came out later. Liked the Balinese fried rice the most out of our shared entrees; great flavor overall. The chicken yakisoba was pretty good and definitely had me reaching for more throughout. Overall my favorite part of the experience was all of the wonderful staff here!

The vibe is amazing -- stylish but still super welcoming. We started with the steamed pork buns, which were some of the best I've ever had: soft and savory. For our mains, we had the Balinese fried rice and mushroom yakisoba -- both dishes were full with fresh ingredients and bold, unique flavors. l I tried the Purple Starling and Blushing Kiwi cocktails. Both were so delicious, with a perfect flavors. It was our first time here, but definitely not our last!

I came here for a date night before a comedy show and YUM! Having been my first time visiting, I didn't want to risk not being able to get in so I made a reservation for 5:30 pm. The restaurant was relatively empty but by the time we left, traffic was picking up. We ordered the Balinese fried rice and the chicken yakisoba. Both were delicious! Flavorful sauces and the chicken thighs had a delicious curry flavor that we were pleasantly surprised by. Overall, the service was great, the atmosphere was romantic and trendy, and we look forward to visiting again!

I had never heard of this place, was in the area and decided to try it out. Have their own parking lot, so easy parking. Beautiful restaurant on the inside, I really liked the seating options. Can't really explain what I mean, but you'd know if you saw it lol. Got seated and served immediately. The menu was full of interesting flavors and my waiter did his best to help me with recommendations. Tried a few items, everything came out fast and very tasty. They had a few flavors of the wings, I got the dry rub and decided to get the sauce in the side because I couldn't decide. I will say the wings are much better with the sauce, and now that I've tried them both, I will get them cooked in it. Overall great experience and would definitely go back to try other items.

We came here for a double date night with our friends. The space is gorgeous with big tall plants all around - almost felt like we were on a vacation! -The espresso martini was our favorite out of all the cocktails we tried. -We split the wings and fries as an appetizer. Loved the dry rub, so crispy! The fry sauce was delicious as well. -The burger honestly competes with the best of them. My husband claims he thinks it's better than Parlour's burger and I agree! -Chicken yakisoba was my favorite entree. So much flavor! It's huge and filling and easy to share. -Poke bowl was super fresh and perfect if you want a lighter feeling entree that still fills the belly. Anything with jasmine rice and yum yum sauce is worth trying. Parking is difficult but there's valet :)

This place is very stylist and has a great feel! Overall I would honestly say that I don't know if I would go back anytime soon. The things that were nice, the staff seemed understanding when we had people running late (wasn't busy). The food was good but nothing special, I went for brunch so not sure if the dinner menu is better. The coffee was very good and was impressed with that! For the things that missed the mark, the Bloody Mary costs $15 that comes from a store bought mix that it tasted like and only had a lime and one olive on it. They were out 4 different items on the menu from potatoes to a liquor for a drink. Lastly parking isn't great and half the people in the group were late because they couldn't find any parking. You could also hear the staff talking about the guests and felt like that wasn't very appropriate for a place that's suppose to feel upscale I felt like it was missed other than the deign of the place.

Pancakes and Breakfast Tacos
Crystal D.

I really wanted to love Starling because the ambiance is exactly what I look for but unfortunately they did not hit the mark. The pancakes tasted burnt and were dry, served with very little syrup. The best part of the breakfast tacos was the crema and salsa verde giving them a great flavor but the tacos were served cold. There is parking in front of the restaurant but it is very limited, especially when there is fresh snow, parking gets very tight.

we stopped by Starling for New Year's Eve lunch. It was not planned and we are happened to be in the area and found this restaurant. Their lunch menu is full of interesting dishes and lots of small bites - mostly Japanese influenced (?) We ordered okonomiyaki, steak tacos and chicken yakisoba. Being obsessed with Okonomiyaki - we have tried many authentic ones and I want to say this one feels much more chewy than the ones I had before. I am more used to the airy fluffy ones. This one feels dense. The yakisoba is a bit too saucy in my liking, but the flavor is nice. We like the steak tacos. The server Amanda was very friendly and fun. She uses the fanciest vocabularies. Haha. We enjoyed our time there.

Balinese Fried Rice, Steamed Pork Buns, and the non-alcoholic red starling drink
Stacy A.

Beautiful vibe and ambience; I really enjoyed the round booths and the green color story. The bathroom was beautifully decorated with bird wallpaper and had bird chirping playing over a speaker. One thing that I think is missing is a sort of identity. Starling birds live all over the world but I think I assumed it was an American-cuisine when I looked this place up. Studying the menu, it has a lot of Asian flavors from Bali, Philippines and India. I can't say that anything on the menu really jumped out at me but what we got was good. My friend and I split the pork buns and the Balinese fried rice, which had great flavor. The tres leches cake was good but I don't think the Ube added any flavor. The drinks were not good.. I got the Purple starling and my friend got the red starling (same drink just no alcohol). There was an overly sweet weird taste, might be the one syrup, and it wasn't even purple!

Fries
Michaela S.

Great experience and cute vibes, but nothing super special. I came here after hearing about the ube tres leches. Heard the had a happy hour so I had to come for good deals. 5 sticky wings for $9 is a great price, and the wings were delicious. I would highly recommend as they came out piping hot and crispy with a delicious sauce. We also snacked in fries which were just fries. It came with a curry salt and a spicy aioli but wasn't anything special. Still a decent deal for happy hour. Drinks were $2 off for happy hour which made my Vietnamese Coffee Martini only $13. It was nice and sweet, and was a nice touch on the drink. The ube tres leches was a little bit of a let down. The ube flavor was extremely light and if my eyes were closed, I wouldn't know it was Ube flavored. The cake itself was a little dense in my opinion. I honestly wouldn't recommend it if you're an actual ube fan. Overall the vibes were great and the restaurant is super cute. Food came out quickly and our server was lovely. The drinks are pretty and the happy hour deals were great. It was worth a try but I don't think I'd return.

Breakfast Burger
Nicole C.

Cute place- loved the decor and we were seated in one of the fun circle booths. Others have mentioned parking and not much of it. No issues when we arrived finding a spot (11:45 on a Sunday) but no open spots when we left. The 3 stars is highly impacted by the complete lack of feeling welcomed or valued. Person who greeted us (if a gruff "do you have a reservation" is a greeting) barely acknowledged us and was clearly not feeling well. Our actual waiter was fine. Just set the experience off on a negative note. We both had the breakfast burger and it was really tasty and cooked to order. WAY too much mayo or whatever the sauce was (which wasn't listed in the description) making it a very messy burger to eat. The caramelized onions were amazing and the homemade pickles were delicious! Would be interested to try again (non brunch menu) and see if experience is any better.

Copperwing is a working distillery, and the bar is not embellished to whisk you away from that environment. I like that. Copperwing has a place of its own amongst the thousands of drinking holes in the Twin Cities. You're imbibing in a distillery, but at a bar with a mixology and a bites menu. The cocktail list is interesting, and what I drank was delicious. I also drank shots of some of the different booze Copperwing produced. (It was a lot of liquor. The next two days were rough, and stupidly, we went to another distillery afterwards. I will never learn, and I'm 75 years old.) Liquor is like wine. We all have different tastes and palates. I liked one of Copperwing's vodkas, but not the other. Several of their offerings have won national awards. That's something everyone in Minneapolis can be proud of. Jack was our bartender, and he was gracious and accommodating. I will return to Copperwing Distillery soon, but will drink with more wisdom, sticking to one kind of booze and will drink lots of water.

I am not sure why it took me so long to visit, but now that I have, I can see it becoming a frequent rotator on my list of pizza joints. There are no reservations and wait times can be long, but there is a small space with a counter where you can order drinks in the meantime. The bar, situated to the left, and the booths and tables to the right make for an intimate dining space. With one or two TVs, it feels a little more casual, but you can easily choose to not pay attention to the screens. Pear and gorgonzola salad: Would be too small for a meal in my opinion, but a nice starter to share if everyone wants some leafy greens. A light, pear vinaigrette coats mixed greens with equal amounts of walnuts, gorgonzola cheese and mixed root vegetables. If you're looking for a salad with some creativity, try it. Garlic knots: MUST get. It's like the savory version of the inside of a cinnamon roll. So doughy with a cheese crust and doused in butter and garlic, these knots sit on top of a light red sauce that can be used to enhance their flavor even further. They are rich and having one and a half was more plenty. Emma: Crust is so important to me in pizza, along with quality ingredients, and I think Mothership nailed it. The thin, buttery white sauce is not overpowering, and with a blend of cheeses, mushrooms and artichokes making up the bulk of the pizza, the hints of truffle honey, pistachio and basil can still peak through. The base of the pizza is thin with a Rosalia style crust - almost like naan bread - so doughy and soft. I think if you are prepared to wait for a table, it really is worth it. I can't forget the chocolate chip cookies and milk at the end too - I recognize a chocolate chip cookie is a chocolate chip cookie is a chocolate chip cookie - and these are just like the ones your mom makes! Not too thin or thick, packed with chocolate, slightly crisp on the outside with a soft interior and best dunked in whole milk! Highly recommend this spot in Edina.

Would love them to add a spiciness level to their menu! It was still tasty but harder to enjoy! -There really isn't a "lobby" area. So the people waiting to sit down were basically bumping into us while we sat at the bar. Overall, this place is good! It's worth a try, but during times that aren't so busy. Fiore - 8.7/10 3 of us ordered this drink and it was very good, simple gin-based drink. The drops of herb-infused EVOO on the top was a nice touch and a refreshing cocktail. Lablabi - 8.1/10 None of us had tried a dish like this before. Fun combo of burrata, chick peas, harissa paste, and croutons. It really worked well together and is apparently a staple dish in Tunisia. Caesar salad - 7/10 Very light, good parmesan, lemony, I would have liked more toppings but given how creamy many of the other dishes were, perhaps a lighter start to the meal was good. :) Banh mi pizza - 9.2/10 This was their pizza of the day. It was so tasty with slow roasted pork, cucumber, and a delicious curst. Excited to come back another time and try their hot honey pepperoni. Pappardelle alla lisa - 8/10 Having ordered pappardelle a few times recently, I'm finding it's not my favorite noodle because it's more floppy and less chewy because of how wide and thin it is. Regardless, still a good dish, the meat sauce was a little more muted in flavor than I expected, maybe the nuttiness of the grana padano contributed to a different flavor profile. Cavatelli - 9.5/10 This was the best dish of the night and surprised us all! How could butternut squash be so good. However, this was like the best, creamiest mac and cheese. Such a satisfying texture, the boursin sauce was incredible. This is one of those rare special dishes I will remember and come back for some day. Lasagna - 9/10 Really good white lasagna, creamy sauce, with a mushroom-forward flavor. It's nice having a thinner two-layer lasagna. Chicken Parm - 8.9/10 So different than everything else on the menu! Incredibly crispy deep fried chicken with some good spices from chili crisp. Felt like eating ribs because they were served on a skewer. Spaghetti - 7.9/10 Savory olive oil and butter sauce, well prepared dish with zucchini, lighter than the other pasta dishes. Budino/Lemon meringue - 8.4/10 Excellent custard/pudding and mix of flavors Cannolis French silk - 8.2/10 I don't typically go for cannolis because of the ricotta filling but these were very good. Also great crispy texture. Nice atmosphere and service. Walking up to the exterior of the restaurant you wouldn't expect such a high quality dining experience. Recommend checking it out!
