Zoinks! I don't know how this didn't get on my radar. Black Duck is one of those places that reminds you why dining out can still feel special. The menu is seasonal and chef‑driven, with thoughtful dishes that highlight fresh ingredients and creativity without feeling overworked. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the flavors and the presentation. The atmosphere is pretty chill and inviting--stylish but comfortable--making it just as fitting for a casual night out as it is for a date. The curated cocktails really stands out. Their cocktail menu is unique and imaginative, offering clever twists on standard and classic cocktails that feel fresh while still respecting the originals. I will tell you their version of the French 75 which, I think was their sip of the moment, was awesome. the Velvet Monkey, was like a boozy Tom and Jerry that was separated with this banana foamy topping. Amazing. Standout dishes included the duck two ways entrée, which was beautifully executed and showcased to distinct duck options. The Caesar salad with white fish was another pleasant surprise - i'd eat those two again without a second thought. I do need to add that the steak tartare is phenomenal! I will go here just to have a cocktail and this little gem! Black Duck is a NE Mpls pearl. it is very much worth the drive to eat here.

I figured that the best place to be for a wintery Valentines day was at a place with a wood fired grill. The interior of the restaurant is clean and modern, with cozy touches of the open kitchen and artwork. The food was warming and satisfying, nothing too bold but absolutely delicious in the same way. The pork chop was my favorite part of the meal, the sauerkraut and mustard vin perfectly complimented the char and fatiness of the grilled pork chop. Drinks were phenomenal as well. The Old Fashioned was a nice riff with the fat washed bourbon adding some richness to cocktail. The other cocktails we had were well crafted and creative. Additionally, there is an extensive wine list and spirits selection. Overall, I thought it was a great experience for a couple to have a nice date night out. Elevated while still being laid back, just a great spot for food and drinks.

Had a lovely dinner sitting in the indoor space. The drink menu is really well-priced- $15 cocktails and reasonable prices to get slightly higher-shelf spirits and a nice list of digestifs. My Gin N Juice cocktail was just the way I like it - grapefruit forward. The menu clearly marks GF and vegan options. We shared the beef tartare (great) and the Buckwheat Risotto (also great, but HUGE for an app). I couldn't finish my main course because I was so full from the risotto. You could definitely get it as a main and be fine. My main course was the duck two ways, and it was good but not outstanding. Something about the sauce just wasn't my favorite, though everything was cooked well. The Pork chop was amazing- cooked to perfection, not dry at all. I liked the vibe- kind of a modern farmhouse/grill. The patio was closed (because it was winter) but looks like it would be a great spot in the summer. Serves was prompt and attentive. We were at a two-top, and our table was super close to the table next to us. So much that it was awkward- we were basically in each others conversations. I would suggest taking one table out of the line right in front of the cook line to try and make this a little better. Would absolutely go back and try more things on the menu!

Another Tasting Collective, coursed menu in the books! We got to try several things and all were great. The atmosphere is fantastic, the hosts friendly, and is overall very welcoming. We got to hear from the chef about the restaurant as well as each dish and their inspirations. Their cocktails were fantastic and I recommend anything with fat washed bourbon! Compliment sandwich time! I think the roulade was my least favorite dish of the night. I know pheasant is hard to do, but it was just very salty and relatively tough. The sweet potato pavé, however, was the stuff dreams are made of. I'll also say I wish the prosciutto was chopped up a bit more to spread the salt around a bit because it was hard to cut. On that note, might have done with a bit of rendering on the fat. Or chopped up and cooked into crunchy lardons for texture! Standouts were the cabbage roll and masa cake. So many great textures and flavors in the roll. Cabbage crammed in there 3 ways with only a bit of duck, but you didn't want for it. Could have been steamed a bit more to soften the outer leaf but overall loved it. The cabbage puree was fantastic. The masa cake was all-around amazing. Wonderfully fresh corn flavor that was complimented perfectly by slightly tart berries and a cooling ice cream. The place is a bit out of my price range for normal dining but I would 100% take anyone visiting hereto showcase local ingredients or for special occasions.

I'm honestly torn about Black Duck. I live down the road. I really admire the owner and chef, his resilience and dedication to keep on with his vision of opening the restaurant through the pandemic is truly commendable. The food is good, although the menu feels limited and a bit on the pricey side. Service is generally fine, but it lacks a personal touch. I have been here several times, and the same manager rarely smile or acknowledge regular customers. It's a small thing, but it leaves an impression. There is just something about the atmosphere that doesn't feel warm or inviting, which makes it hard to want to spend money here when there are so many great options in the NE Minneapolis area. I really wanted to root for this place, but it just misses the mark for me.

My cousin lives nearby this restaurant and recommended this place for dinner. Cute neighborhood restaurant, right in the corner. They have a small parking lot and big patio, it will be nice in the summer time. Reservations recommended, they are busy. Every Wednesday is date night, 3 course meal for a set price. My daughter was craving oysters, we ordered the raw and grilled. Steak and ceasar salad was delicious.

Ambience is modern, clean, and easygoing. Service was attentive and prompt. Our group of 5 all enjoyed our dishes. Flavors were good and food was cooked well. Would come back on a nice day for patio.

Came here with a reservation and was seated immediately and that was pleasant. The ambiance is relaxed and bright in there. I do think the tables and chairs could be a little more substantial but it all flowed and worked as it should. It actually didn't get too busy in there at all which I was surprised at since we got there at 7pm and left around 915ish and our area stayed very quiet. Which was perfect for the moment. Our waiter was decent, she could've come around a bit more but it all worked out. Food was awesome. The lamb shanks was cooked to perfection super tender and full of amazing flavor. The burger was delicious (you definitely need the 2 patties), the bun in my opinion was too thick the amount of mayo / aioli was over powering so I did end up taking off the top half of the bun. The caesar was super good with crispy bread crumbs throughout the salad but definitely could have used more whitefish in it. Pork belly was good but I dont think I would order it again.. could've used a bit more of a crisp / texture to it. All in all a pretty solid meal! Ended with the cheesecake which was really great with a lovely caramel ice cream on the side! Would love to come back to try more!

Cute little spot in NE MPLS. Went there for brunch recently and it was delicious. My husband and I split an egg sandwich and the smash burger. Egg sandwich has a fluffy egg and is made with focaccia. We shared some waffle fries as well, (get the white BBQ sauce for dipping). Service was great too, will be back to try their dinner options!

Love this place and its vibe! It's very chill. I've got to experience both breakfast and brunch here. Brunch was my favorite. Brunch: Stuffed Hashbrown with pulled pork and cheese sauce - OK, I've been waiting for this item since I saw it advertised; it needs to be one of the startribunes best things I ate this week post! Hashbrowns crispy, the pork inside was not over powering and the cheese sauce was so complimentary! The cheese, hashbrown, pulled pork ratio were perfect. Their house made hot sauce was super good too, chipotle tasting. I think they should sell it. Pancake, biscuit and sausage were also consumed. I didn't love the pancake but my dining partner (and most reviewers) did. My dining partner described it as "tastes like a donut and corn tortilla!" Biscuit was great, I loved the homemade strawberry ham. Sausage was also Devine! It tasted of higher quality and I can't wait to try it on a breakfast sandwich. I've been here twice and each time there was ample street parking. Brunch service has you ordering through a QR code. The food comes out quick.

    Fried bologna sandwich

3.5 Stars Good service, nice cozy atmosphere. We went for happy hour food so I can't comment on much of the menu. I had the fried bologna sandwich, mostly because you don't often see that (though I think it's gaining popularity!) and how can you pass up pimento cheese? The truth though is I don't have any bologna experience beyond Oscar Mayer, so I can't comment on if this house made variety was any good. It was fine? My only wish was that it was sliced a bit thicker. Overall pretty tasty though! A friend ordered the paczki and they were pretty dry and were lacking in filling. The glaze was tasty though. Table next to us has the wood fired chicken and it looked pretty good!

We were lucky enough to dine at the chef's counter so we could watch them cooking over wood. Everything we had was outstanding. Highlights were the roast duck which was succulent and so flavor rich, and the duck burger, which I can't stop thinking about. Their lot is a little small, but there is plenty of street parking at the park just a block away.

Parking can be annoying in this area (old cobblestone streets), but there is a paid lot right across the street from the entrance if you can't find street parking. Upon walking in, the bar top itself was packed with regulars at an off hour on a Friday. We sat at a small table by the pull tabs. Fun & divey atmosphere with a pool table and plenty of photo ops. Decided on Bina's Burger (smash burger) with Fries, and a side of Mozzarella Sticks. Loved the classic cup the Coke came in, and I tried both of the Old Fashioned drinks on the menu. Bina's old fashioned is okay, and will do the trick if you're purely looking for effect. The Wisconsin old fashioned is very sweet with muddled cherries and orange. The mozzarella sticks were served with a tomato soup dip which was interesting, but makes sense (grilled cheese & tomato soup). Ultimately the smash burger is the star! Very salty and crispy and delicious! I could see this becoming a regular craving! Water and condiments are on a stand to the left of the pull tabs.

They described it as an upscale dive bar which I laughed at for sure, but when I went I would say that exactly how I would describe it. It's dark and moody, but very funky and hip with the neon walls and lights. It's very small, behind the new Public Domain space. Seems like the hostesses direct people waiting on a spot there to Neon Tiger while they wait. We were able to snag one of the last tables after we ordered (there are about 5 tables for 2, and 3 standing bar tables from what I remember). The menu isn't large - it has a couple of beers, some basic cocktails and lists spirits and mixers. The only new and exciting thing on the menu is their slushy cocktails. Good news is that this place isn't very pricey, but the portions aren't huge. My small espresso martini was $12, my boyfriend's beer didn't quite look like a full pint but was only $4. We did laugh that it was called Tiger piss. The espresso martini is good, but beware there's no actual cream liquor in the drink - they seem to squirt some foamy concoction from an unmarked squeeze bottle in a fridge on top, which was interesting. Overall, would come back here if I was bar hopping for cocktails - but wouldn't go out of my way to try it again. Great idea to send people here while waiting for Public Domain!
