We had such a fun night at BAD! It's a speakeasy in the basement of Billy's. You need a reservation so that you can get the code to get in the back door which is accessed through the alley. We very much appreciated that they did not seem to care, however, that we had dressed for a different event, and looked a bit out of place. The dining space and bar are not large, but there were plenty of cozy tables. We had five women and we fit comfortably in a round booth together. Nya was our server, and also the bartender that evening. She was so helpful with picking out drinks and food. For example, one of my friends told her what she liked and asked her to just bring something. Each round was perfection. We tried a sampling of appetizers and sushi rolls. Starting with the edamame, I can't remember the last time I've seen spicy edamame served anywhere. One friend thought it was way too hot, but I loved it. It's a great way to eat what can sometimes be a bland vegetable. We also ordered the Shishido peppers. They were delicately cooked with flakes on top. Also super flavorful. I can't remember which rolls we ordered, but every one of them was delicious. The drinks were flowing and they knew how to make a great time! The darker room with upbeat music made for a party like atmosphere. Few things that made the experience not feel as high quality as the price tag of the event was, the paper napkins, I was expecting an upscale feeling from all aspects of this and felt strange having paper napkins. So I recently went back with a much smaller group and the experience was a lot better all around. This time we sat in the main bar room which was super cute and overall good vibes. The backroom is also a vibe, just a bit more intimate. They still have the 90's hiphop menu going on but they have added a few new items since I last visited. We were out exploring the city a bit and ate somewhere else prior to visiting here and were more so opting in for drinks. We ordered a special drink (I don't remember the name of it, it wasn't on the menu and was listed as "dealers choice" on the receipt) and hi-chew shots. The hi-chew shots were so good, we went for seconds. We also ended up ordering the g-thang - salmon roll. Everything was good. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. The host was too. She showed us both rooms and let us choose which one we waited to sit in. The music was so nostalgic and a great vibe. Good time all around! Don't miss the photo ops by the bathrooms. Super cute! They accept reservations which is always a plus, so we were able to get seated quickly on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm. Parking is downtown so be prepared to walk a bit - although we were luckily and got a spot right out front. This is my second visit with my daughter. It's quickly becoming her annual birthday request! Everything about this place is fantastic! It's quickly becoming put favorite Speakeasy. I would give them 10 star in every area if allowed. Their unique drinks are amazingly crafted, so well balanced and full of flavor. The staff has been above normal amazing both times. They serve with a smile, perfectly attentive, great at making suggestions and knowing the menu. They also brought my daughter champagne and a candle for the cake. And had the coolest torch I've ever seen to light that gold candle. We ordered the JFC Japanese chicken, Chicken Goya, Too Legit sushi. (Along with handful of drinks) The food ordered was fresh and flavorful. Not over the top but still fresh and hit the spot. Our rated fav drinks were- Back to Life (best espresso martini we've had in the Twin Cities yet!!) and I absolutely loved the Disco Inferno to order it twice (fantastic summer drink concoction!) My boyfriend booked us a reservation for my birthday after seeing it recommended online. We drove to the area and discovered the parking ramp we had been en route to did not exist anymore. We circled around for a while looking for parking and decided to give the restaurant a call to let them know we may be late for our reservation. I tried calling several times with no answer and eventually connected to the Billy Sushi hostess who let us know she would inform BAD downstairs. When we arrived they were not informed and had cancelled our reservation. We told them it was for a birthday and after a wait they got us a table for two. Having worked as a server for many years I understand the difficulty of the job and was very kind to this hostess, but we noticed she was much nicer to the other parties. Our table was right under the speakers and my boyfriend and I simply couldn't hold a conversation due to the sheer volume of the music. Our table was also incredibly wobbly, to the point that my boyfriend had to crawl underneath and put some napkins underneath it to keep it steady. Next, the text on the menu was super worn down and paired with the dark lighting it was almost illegible. We also had to share this one menu and hold it under the light to try to read. Unfortunately the service was unbearably slow too. We had been sat for 30-45 mins before receiving just our drinks. Lastly, we were disappointed with the food due to the portion sizes (given the price) and the inability to modify any food items. We explained that I am vegetarian and asked if there were any options for me. We were told there was no way to get any sushi rolls without meat. However, once my boyfriend's sushi arrived, none of the meat was even included in the roll, but rather scooped on top of them. They could have easily accommodated me. There were only five small sushi pieces per dish and we left still feeling hungry. There were many small things that could have been better, even down to the small size of the water glasses requiring constant refills and the lack of space for our plates on the small table tops. Best last minute decision!! I have been to Billy Sushi and have been wanting to go to their "secret" bar below. It was honestly hard to find but some other lovely patrons guided us to this cocktail haven. As soon as you walk in the hostess is super friendly and eager to give great service. Our waiter was also really nice and helpful when he suggested strong vs fruity cocktail options. The only thing that could bother some was that we received the wrong bill and credit card back after paying. Thankfully it was just with the table next to us and I noticed immediately. I would like to give grace because we both had red cards and there was a flooding issue the staff was dealing with. Cocktails: Promiscuous was my favorite and my boyfriends! It was pretty much a pretty pink margarita without the salt rim. The One, Two, Step gave me floral notes with a nice after taste. It's relatively easy to get a reservation online (go through Instagram) - but book several days in advance! I've walked in too, but that's more of a dice roll. We went last minute with no reservations so we had to wait like 20 min to get in. It's cocktails only, so eat beforehand. The way the cocktail menu works is it's more of a theme style drink, no ingredients on the menu, however your waiter will help guide you through the process. The ambiance it equally awesome. Each table has one single touch lamp, which the waiter can turn off when lighting your drink on fire if you ordered one that requires that. Also notice the ceiling for the shooting stars. Make sure to check out the hall way leading to the bath room, it's worth the trip!! They also have some very nice Japanese whiskeys, some of which are allocated, I tried one neat, it was about $35 for a pour. read more

We visited Billy After Dark on a Thursday night after eating at Billy Sushi. The door BAD is hidden in an alleyway, but there are lasers that help guide you to the correct place. To get inside, you ring a doorbell and a host will eventually let you inside. It can take a few mins since they're running up and down stairs to seat guests. We had a reservation which I highly recommend. The space is a lot smaller than I anticipated and it was very full when we got there at 7:30. We really enjoyed the atmosphere in BAD. There are trees lining the walls with up lighting and there are LER stars on the ceiling. There is a main bar in the middle of the room where bartenders create craft cocktails. Spacing is really nice - even in a packed restaurant we didn't feel crowded. We ordered our drinks and received them quickly. The staff were so helpful in explaining the drinks and giving suggestions. All cocktails have titles from 90s songs and each cocktail is a play on a classic like a martini or a Negroni. Each cocktail it $16 which we didn't think was too pricey for the quality of the cocktails we received. I ordered the All Eyes On Me which was a play on a French 75. It was light and bright but also Smokey. Overall it was a fantastic cocktail. I highly recommend BAD. The drinks and service were fantastic. They do serve food, but we didn't order any - this would be a nice spot for a smaller dinner. I will definitely be back! read more
