Not sure this place is for me. Hostess made my husband and I feel a bit bad that we didn't have a reservation but really honored she could find us a table in a pretty empty venue. Service ok but food (which was excellent) came out before the drinks which is a no, no for me. Server was good but maybe too attentive making us feel rushed. We had such a fun night at BAD! It's a speakeasy in the basement of Billy's. You need a reservation so that you can get the code to get in the back door which is accessed through the alley. I'm not entirely sure I understand why, but it added to the fun. The vibe is upscale, Metro chic. We very much appreciated that they did not seem to care, however, that we had dressed for a different event, and looked a bit out of place. The dining space and bar are not large, but there were plenty of cozy tables. We had five women and we fit comfortably in a round booth together. Nya was our server, and also the bartender that evening. She was so helpful with picking out drinks and food. For example, one of my friends told her what she liked and asked her to just bring something. Each round was perfection. We tried a sampling of appetizers and sushi rolls. Starting with the edamame, I can't remember the last time I've seen spicy edamame served anywhere. One friend thought it was way too hot, but I loved it. It's a great way to eat what can sometimes be a bland vegetable. We also ordered the Shishido peppers. They were delicately cooked with flakes on top. Also super flavorful. I can't remember which rolls we ordered, but every one of them was delicious. With respect to drinks, the drinks leaned more towards fruity and light, which isn't exactly my vibe, but my friends all loved everything. Want to Billy after dark and overall worth the experience!! From the service, to the amazing fresh fish it was a show stopper! The rolls were amazing along with the nigiri and sashimi. The drinks were flowing and they knew how to make a great time! The darker room with upbeat music made for a party like atmosphere. Few things that made the experience not feel as high quality as the price tag of the event was, the paper napkins, I was expecting an upscale feeling from all aspects of this and felt strange having paper napkins. Another was that the chopsticks are the ones you expect from a takeout place. Felt like these small things elevate your experience. Slot of the drink wear and plates felt like just run of the mill and I was expecting some unique pieces to go along with the upscale vibes they were going for. So I recently went back with a much smaller group and the experience was a lot better all around. This time we sat in the main bar room which was super cute and overall good vibes. The backroom is also a vibe, just a bit more intimate. They still have the 90's hiphop menu going on but they have added a few new items since I last visited. We were out exploring the city a bit and ate somewhere else prior to visiting here and were more so opting in for drinks. We ordered a special drink (I don't remember the name of it, it wasn't on the menu and was listed as "dealers choice" on the receipt) and hi-chew shots. The hi-chew shots were so good, we went for seconds. We also ended up ordering the g-thang - salmon roll. Everything was good. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. The host was too. She showed us both rooms and let us choose which one we waited to sit in. The music was so nostalgic and a great vibe. Good time all around! Don't miss the photo ops by the bathrooms. Super cute! I should also note that it was a Saturday night and it wasn't too packed but they strongly encourage reservations and we were able to get one via text same day within 30 min. They accept reservations which is always a plus, so we were able to get seated quickly on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm. Parking is downtown so be prepared to walk a bit - although we were luckily and got a spot right out front. So many things I loved about this place: The Vibes, the sushi and cocktails were phenomenal, and our server was so sweet and attentive. This is my second visit with my daughter. It's quickly becoming her annual birthday request! Everything about this place is fantastic! It's quickly becoming put favorite Speakeasy. I would give them 10 star in every area if allowed. Their unique drinks are amazingly crafted, so well balanced and full of flavor. The staff has been above normal amazing both times. They serve with a smile, perfectly attentive, great at making suggestions and knowing the menu. They also brought my daughter champagne and a candle for the cake. And had the coolest torch I've ever seen to light that gold candle. We ordered the JFC Japanese chicken, Chicken Goya, Too Legit sushi. (Along with handful of drinks) The food ordered was fresh and flavorful. Not over the top but still fresh and hit the spot. Our rated fav drinks were- Back to Life (best espresso martini we've had in the Twin Cities yet!!) and I absolutely loved the Disco Inferno to order it twice (fantastic summer drink concoction!) They also have a secret drink- so ask the server about it (changes often...or maybe seasonally?) The ambience and lighting was relaxing, bit artsy and perfect too. It was a little hard to find the entrance but there was other people also looking for the door so we were able to find it pretty quickly. We made a reservation so we didn't have to wait to get a table. I definitely recommend RSVP because a group that came before us had to wait. The waiter was engaging and attentive to our needs. They were playing all the early 2000's that I grew up with so I loved the music! Our waitress was kind and informative when answering our questions about the menu. The drinks are on the spendy side, but the espresso martini I ordered was delicious. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because of how slow the service was. We wanted to order another drink but we were afraid it wouldn't come by the time we needed to leave. Initially we were not sure where the door was for B.A.D. so we asked the hostess for Billy Sushi and they told us to go to the back alley and there is a sign above the door. After that it was easy to navigate! After walking in you are greeted by someone who then brings you to your table and walking in there I initially thought it was VERY dark, but I love the vibes of it once my eyes adjusted and felt very cozy ! Once you get the menu, you do not know what you order, you order based off the item name on the menu which I thought was super unique and a very fun experience! We ended up getting almost all the drinks on the menu with our group because we wanted to try as many as we could! I do not remember what each drink was called unfortunately but I do not remember not liking any of them. We went to B.A.D. shortly after they started serving some food, so we had to try out some of the appetizers! We got the Waygu bites, and they were very good, but my only complaint would be that the bite sizes were HUGE. We also got the shishito peppers and they were amazing! The food and drinks are definitely a highlight here. Unfortunately, the service didn't match. It took about 25 minutes after we sat down just to get our drinks, and our server forgot to take my friend's food order. There was also a mistake on our bill that had to be corrected. B.A.D is such a fun experience! I've been there a few times now and each time has been great. It's relatively easy to get a reservation online (go through Instagram) - but book several days in advance! I've walked in too, but that's more of a dice roll. Parking can be difficult since it's downtown, but I'm usually able to find a meter within a block or two. Last night I went with a friend after dinner. The ambiance of this place is so cool. The bathroom film posters are my favorite. The 90s/00s jams are also super fun - I just wish they would just play full songs though instead of 30 second snippets before moving into the next one. The drinks are amazing! The servers are there to guide you. Last night I unknowingly ordered an espresso martini - but unfortunately had to send it back because of a caffeine sensitivity. The server was cool about it and brought me their old fashioned instead. This drink was incredible - definitely one of the better old fashioneds I've had lately! They also serve sushi small plates. You can walk in without a reservation, but I do suggest making one. It is a good place to go before or after your experience at Billy Sushi! They can make their drinks as mocktails and they also have some drinks that are exclusively mocktails on the menu and their drinks are unique, sexy, and tasty. First of all you go to the alley way between the Aria and Billy's sushi then take a left right away where cars are parked and look for the door with the dinosaur on it. Then you'll be greeted by the bouncer after you ring the doorbell. They provide an introduction to the experience and I love how you pick the drinks based off adjectives. Billy After Dark is pretty unique and amazing!! If you can't find it, you don't belong here...well it's not that hard to find. We went last minute with no reservations so we had to wait like 20 min to get in. It's cocktails only, so eat beforehand. The way the cocktail menu works is it's more of a theme style drink, no ingredients on the menu, however your waiter will help guide you through the process. The ambiance it equally awesome. Each table has one single touch lamp, which the waiter can turn off when lighting your drink on fire if you ordered one that requires that. Also notice the ceiling for the shooting stars. Make sure to check out the hall way leading to the bath room, it's worth the trip!! They also have some very nice Japanese whiskeys, some of which are allocated, I tried one neat, it was about $35 for a pour. read more

We visited Billy After Dark on a Thursday night after eating at Billy Sushi. The door BAD is hidden in an alleyway, but there are lasers that help guide you to the correct place. To get inside, you ring a doorbell and a host will eventually let you inside. It can take a few mins since they're running up and down stairs to seat guests. We had a reservation which I highly recommend. The space is a lot smaller than I anticipated and it was very full when we got there at 7:30. We really enjoyed the atmosphere in BAD. There are trees lining the walls with up lighting and there are LER stars on the ceiling. There is a main bar in the middle of the room where bartenders create craft cocktails. Spacing is really nice - even in a packed restaurant we didn't feel crowded. We ordered our drinks and received them quickly. The staff were so helpful in explaining the drinks and giving suggestions. All cocktails have titles from 90s songs and each cocktail is a play on a classic like a martini or a Negroni. Each cocktail it $16 which we didn't think was too pricey for the quality of the cocktails we received. I ordered the All Eyes On Me which was a play on a French 75. It was light and bright but also Smokey. Overall it was a fantastic cocktail. I highly recommend BAD. The drinks and service were fantastic. They do serve food, but we didn't order any - this would be a nice spot for a smaller dinner. I will definitely be back! read more

Came here for a friend's birthday, and was so excited to try it! She's a regular here, so I turned to her for recommendations. It's truly a speakeasy - you have to know exactly where to find a reservation on their website, and find the alley with the cowboy riding the dinosaur. Then you ring the doorbell and a hostess comes and lets you in and brings you downstairs. The vibes here are truly unmatched, it screams nightlife and feels very New-York to me. They recently expanded so there's some more seating, but I still wouldn't say this place is large. All the employees were super kind and helpful, plus they knew my friend since she's always around. They even sent 2 free bottles of champagne to the table to celebrate her birthday! I was just stopping by for a quick drink, and I had my friend pick one for me. Pro tip: all/most of the drinks are twists on classics! My friend got the CREAM - which is an espresso martini and it was her favorite in the cities. I got the One Two Step, which was in the bird glass - it's a take on a gin and tonic. They do a whole performance pouring some of it down the leaf in the back to change the color, it's fun! I really loved my experience at B.A.D. It's located below Billy's Sushi. Out the front door, you make 3 lefts and the back door has a doorbell camera. Sit tight, they see you and know you're there. Service was great. The girl who works the door, the hostess, was amazing! Drinks were beyond great. Ambiance is sexy, dark, moody... also great. Music is 90's/early 2K RNB and HipHop = GREAT! Two things though! 1. FYI they close early. As awesome as the vibe is, it's a Cinderella spot, meaning it closes at the stroke of midnight, even on a wknd. Our server did allow us to stay later to finish all of our drinks. 2. They DO NOT provide separate bills and that you could ONLY split the tab evenly among your party with credit cards. So... fyi about that. We thought it was "different." Though we were told it's split "evenly" everyone had different charges on their card the next day. A lil "sus," but we all decided to check the spot out again. Keep an eye on your tab and what you're signing for. I didn't personally pay for anything, it was my birthday and my friend paid the bill. The tab issue was shared with me among my party, so I cannot say it was my PERSONAL experience (i would have called the next day if it had been). With a secret entrance hidden down an alleyway, and an unassuming door with a confusing doorbell/keypad configuration, getting into the space is a bit intimidating. Once you are ushered inside, you descend down a minimally lit stairwell into a basement filled with loud music and modern, swanky, dimly lit spaces. When we first went in March 2023, the menu was still focused on drinks. The cocktails were described based on vibe, not alcohol. I ended up ordering two different versions of an Old Fashioned by accident. The first was more herbal and savory while the second was sweeter and garnished with caramelized bananas. Both were quite good! I would caution that it is a bit pricey, but recognize that you are paying for the entire experience.
