Wow what a find! We came in on a Wednesday night and this place was popping! It was Brazilian Japanese vinyl night and the menu had me wishing we hadn't eaten dinner before coming! They had lots of cool small bites though only one dessert option. I had the haystack and it was so refreshing! The chocolate haystack on top caught me a little off guard but it was still good. My husband had the highball drink and of course it was liquor forward but didn't have any bite. We also had the standby which was spicy but had less wasabi flavor than we would've liked. I loved everything about Noma except for an aspect of Minneapolis bar culture that is becoming prolific. Bartenders, excuse me, mixologists, do not engage with their customers. Perhaps because of my age, I enjoy conversing with humanity. I spend time on the computer, but it isn't my friend. While the servers behind the bar were professional, they gathered at the end of the bar, talking amongst themselves. I guess that's a Minneapolis thing. Noma's space, with fantastic lighting reminiscent of Minari, one of Chef Del Prado's other spots, is fabulous. A basement lair, Noma's takes Edina into a world of sophistication never seen before. I have spent time in Tokyo, and Noma would fit in well in Ginza or Aoyama. While Japanese Hi Fi or LP bars emphasize the sound system and the music being played, Del Prado knows his clientele, and music is more of an affectation at Noma. I hardly heard the tunes, and the staff had no clue about what system was installed. In Japan, that's an obsession. Drinks were great, and we loved our gyoza, which we asked to be made extra crispy. The sake selection needs improvement, but I enjoy sake, and most of the Edina faithful will stick to the tried-and-true. The mixologists will be making a lot of Espresso Martinis. I enjoyed Noma HiFi immensely, and it even motivated me to consider living in Edina. It's a great cocktail lounge. read more

Entering this Edina Speakeasy felt like what I imagine a Tokyo bar conveys - a casual coolness, and the certainty that you can have anything you want within these black walls and funky lights. Ambiance to burn. We settled for cocktails. Unable to decipher the drink menu, I went off-menu (which I know is wrong) and had one of the better Martinis I've had in years. I will definitely return to explore the menu in greater depth, but Hi-Fi is quite something. read more

Surprised by how much I loved this place. I don't venture out to Edina for much these days but heard about this HiFi bar. I've been to great HiFi speakeasy type bars in other states but haven't found any comparable in our cities until now. It's a vibe. First, the music was on point. The dj did his thing with the vinyl. The sound walls provide a great listening experience. The glow of the different color walls adds a cool, sexy ambiance and some brightness to the dark space. The drinks were interesting, unique, and outstanding. Service was good. Loved that there was a diverse "crowd" and diversity among staff. The place was full but we were seated immediately so it was perfect for a Friday date night. They have some tasty sounding snacks I'll have to try next time. Will be back. First time at Noma Hifi and I can honestly say it is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities! The vibe is perfect with low lighting and a vinyl DJ. My friends and I tried a variety of cocktails and food. Their cocktails were some of the best I've ever had. We ordered Standby, Lovecat, Lil Fang, Haystack. We loved them all! Their food was unique and easy to share. The location makes it easy to hop around to a few places around 50th and France. The staff were patient, helpful, and friendly. For parking, you can easily access a ramp or side street if you don't mind a short walk, either way isn't bad. I cannot wait to return! read more

So. Much. Buzz about this spot floating around, and boy is it warranted!! Tucked into the 50th and France shopping area, you might find yourself strolling around a bit to find this basement cocktail lounge. Keep your eyes peeled for the glowing, blue light and you'll find it! The interior is absolutely chef's kiss... Mid-century modern meets cool, hip vibes. Modeled after a Japanese Record Lounge, they've spent a lot of intention making every detail perfect! The space is not stuffy or congested at all, with seating spaced out nicely, creating perfect little pockets for different size groups to relax and enjoy the vibes. It is a bit loud, intentionally, so I wouldn't plan to catch up on all the gossip ;) The servers seemed to still be figuring out the flow, but drinks and snacks came out quickly. The cocktail menu is diverse, yet focused. Surprises and fun takes for sure. I'd come in with an open mind and enjoy the adventure. I tried the Dr. Pepperu and the Kuromi. The Kuromi was my favorite, although the Dr. Pepperu was a complete surprise in a glass, arriving clear and then bursting with flavor on first sip. The Kuromi had a super delicious white wine foam on top that kept the drink fresh, with a hint of apple staying on the pallette throughout. I can't wait to see what creative ideas they come up with next! Noma Hi-Fi Bar is one of the coolest spots I've been to in a long time. It's tucked downstairs in the 50th & France area and instantly feels like a hidden little escape: dim lighting, candlelit tables, hi-fi vinyl playing, and the kind of cozy basement lounge vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. From the moment you walk in, everything is intentional from the entrance, the lighting, the seating layout, the mood. It's immersive in the best way without trying too hard. Drinks: The cocktails are seriously impressive, creative, balanced, and actually worth the price. We ordered the Standby and Lil' Fang and both were incredible (easily two of the best cocktails I've had recently). If you like unique flavor combinations done well, this is your place. Food: The small plates lean Japanese-influenced and everything we tried was a hit. Our server recommended the Spicy Salmon Donburi and it ended up being the star of the night, simple ingredients but perfect execution, super flavorful and fresh. We also had the Milk Bread, which was the perfect snackable plate to share and a must-order if you're drinking. Service: Service was excellent, attentive, friendly, and helpful with recommendations. It elevated the entire experience. Overall, this is a 10/10 vibe bar with top-tier cocktails and really solid food. New place in the neighborhood. A little speakeasy vibes where you enter through the alleyway where there is a glowing blue light inside a walkway. You walk downstairs and there is a very cool and relaxed lounge vibe with drinks and small bites. Lots of seating with some bar seating. Staff are wonderful! They have pop up djs on the weekends. We ordered the haystack and standby for drinks. Overall they had unique flavors but felt the drinks were very juice forward. Not a listening bar where complete albums are played on high end systems for the patrons to listen to critically and in relative silence. Instead this is a cocktail bar with a good system playing mostly house music by a DJ. I don't think anyone there was really listening. So don't expect a Tokyo listening bar. What a cool cocktail lounge! This is definitely bringing North Loop vibes to Edina. My friends and I came here for a nightcap after eating at Dexter's down the street, and it's the perfect spot for that, starting your night, or a fun first date. The DJ that was playing was incredibly, super cool vibes all night and we couldn't stop complimenting the music. The whole place is a cool blue ambiance with pops of orange - really dim and moody. The staff was very kind and quick, even when we were waiting for a spot they kept reassuring us they were working on it. The menu is small but unique - we didn't order since we just ate. my friends really enjoyed their cocktails and mocktails! My only suggestion would be to add a few desserts to the menu for people ending their night here. read more

LP lounges have become the rage in places like NY, Atlanta, and Tokyo, where the point is to hear music from LPs, usually jazz, on a high end sound system. It was exciting to hear this trend would be coming to Edina. But, whether Noma Hi Fi really represents this trend is doubtful. On the positive side, the atmosphere is that of an attractive and comfortable cocktail lounge. There's not enough of those around anymore. The service was also attentive. The music was a big disappointment. First, when the place is full it's very loud because no one's listening to the music. This is not a crowd that likes to savor a good cocktail and hear high quality sound. It's just another bar, mostly for young adults out on the town. Second, the music being played that night was mind-numbing techno that you stop paying attention to about one minute in. For my first drink, I had the Kissa Kissa Vodka cocktail for $16. The waiter said that it was like a flavored martini. Indeed, the flavor was good. However, not only was it substantially smaller a glass that you would normally get at that price but it also seemed to be devoid of alcohol. Having learned my lesson I next ordered a Hendricks Gin & Tonic. That was satisfactory. What wasn't acceptable was the charge on the bill for the G & T. It itemized the drink as $16 for the Gin, $2 for the tonic, and $.50 for ice cubes, for a total of $18.50. That's right, a charge for ice-cubes. When asked, the waiter embarrassingly acknowledged that it wasn't an error. read more

The vibe in here is so cool and futuristic. It's a smaller place so we were waiting about 20-25 minutes for a table to open up on a Friday night. The server, host and bar tenders were all very friendly. They had interesting food and snacks choices but fun to try something new. Price is up there for drinks but it's a fun place to go to. Arrived around 9 on a Friday. There were only a few open seats but it didn't feel crowded- definitely not at legal capacity. My party of 2 was told the wait would be an hour but we couldn't wait there and just to come back later. There's nothing else going on in Edina on a Friday night so we would have just had to stand around outside in the cold. Then someone else just walked right by and grabbed an open table and the host said it was fine. Overall a confusing and not welcoming experience. I doubt I'll be going back. read more
