room3
Nicole M.

I've been curious about Berlin, but I really wanted to see room3 in the sort of place they deserve to be. Not that they aren't great at a street festival or basement party, but Berlin provides the perfect mellow, classy, jazz vibe. The sound system is great too; you aren't really aware that it's a sound system, you just hear the band playing. I appreciated the parking advice on the website, but in the end the valet parking was full since it was the late show. However, the valets pointed me towards a street parking place I'd missed, so I zipped over and ended up parking for cheap since the city doesn't charge after 10 pm. I was seated at a table fairly quickly, and soon had my drink choice in hand. Since I was driving, it was not one of the very interesting cocktails, but a mild THC beverage I knew I could handle. That just gave me more of an excuse to try a "listening snack". I chose the cauliflower fritters which were big enough to share, but I had no problem eating it all; the cauliflower was still a bit crisp, the crust was evenly crusty, and the sauce was perfectly matched. The servers were like shadows, getting around to the tables without disturbing the music experience. After room3's set was done, which came too fast for me, I got a look at the bathrooms. 2 nicely decorated one seaters. and a real scented candle! I am so glad I stretched my budget a little for this.

Having been there a few more times, it's been one of my top 3 favorite spots in Northloop. I tried a few new cocktails and food, everything is amazing. For the non-alcoholic drinks, the miso old fashioned is definitely worthy, I am not a huge fan of mocktails, but they really nailed it, sweet and savory, no need to imagine too hard on the alcohol. The brow butter came with cherry upside down cake is another highlight, very nicely done! Salmon crudo is one of the kind, highly recommended. Services have been consistently non-intrusive which is crucial for a jazz bar to serve food and drink. Thank you! I've watched 5-6 shows in the past a few weeks, wow, never a show disappointed. In a way, I think it beats Dakota, as you will have 3 shows from early evening to late night, if you don't like planning, just a spontaneous idea to have a jazzy night, you can easily have one here.

Pizza, monkey bread, gnudi, fritters, chicken katsu.

Visited 12/30/24. I would give Berlin a 3.5/5 on vibes alone but not necessarily due to food. Give yourself a chunk of time in advance to park because it's in North Loop (aka the hardest area to find parking in twin cities lol) but once you're in, it's all walk in. Our group of 4 got there at 5 and at that point it wasn't busy at all. Really started to pick up around 6 or so. Super fun drink options and honestly I would come back for the music and bar alone. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, but definitely seemed like she had her hands full as the place picked up (she was awesome throughout all of this). Our party ordered: savory monkey bread, taleggio and pine honey pizza, fried chicken katsu sandwich, ricotta and spinach gnudi, and cauliflower fritters. Sadly none of this really stood out in a way that I would want to get anything again. My favorite of these that I tried was the flavor of the pizza (size was pretty small for price point) and the gnudi. Would not recommend the katsu sandwich. Definitely recommend it for the experience and drinks and music, but not necessarily for the food at this point!

Stopped in Berlin for a couple of drinks before a dinner reservation and overall it was good! We arrived around 6 pm and there were plenty of tables available but we opted for the bar facing towards the stage. We ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc, Aperol spritz, and my husband wanted something light and refreshing so the bartender made him a gin cocktail not on the menu, which was tasty! The live music was good and the cocktails were cold and delicious. Berlin has a chill, upscale vibe, which was great for our date night out. We'll be back to try other cocktails and maybe their food too!

Ambiance Service Food Duck confit rillettes $14 Asparagus. Cornichon. Parsley It's like duck machaca. It's good companions to cocktails. With salted crackers and cornicons But need more of something. Last word (Gin) $15 Great! Sazerac $13 Excellent Negroni (mezcal) $13 Smokey. Well balanced. Makes want to drink another Martini with olives $13 Proper Martini. Order this! Chicken thigh schnitzel Sweet corn butter. Black pepper. Sauerkraut relish This is a great dish. Very satisfying. Crunchy outside juicy inside. Great seasoning The ambiance is sooo good. The music is amazing. Well depends who is playing. The staff is generally happy looking with one or two don't look so happy. Rum au baba Is like boozy cocktail with pound cake. The cake is kind of dry. Chantilly ratio to cake not right. But at least it's not overly sweet. Good concepts just need more thinkering or better execution. Maybe add bit of honey with some fresh mint and lemon zest

Great atmosphere and beverages! We did not have any food, but the beverages didn't disappoint. I wish there was jazz music playing at all times because when we went before a show there was folk music playing. Other than that, it's nice it's next door to Porzana so you can grab a bite to eat after!

Cherry upside down cake

The atmosphere was really nice! My partner and I went here for a date night for some live music. The food was also good, not the best but not the worst. The highlight was salmon crudo, cauliflower fritter and upside down cherry cake with amaretto whip cream. The pizza could be better, we thought it was a little dough-y. The shrimp could've been better also, it was a little grainy for our taste. The old fashioned was also good for a drink to sip throughout the show. Service was also quick and swift, we didn't have to wait long for drinks or food.

What a fun vibe! There is a cover for bands but it is open for a drink as well. A small wait of a few minutes for a table to open but no big deal. Great music. Drinks were tasty. They had classics like a speakeasy vibe, but also some unique cocktails as well

Girlfriend and I's absolute favorite spot for date night. I recommend this place to everyone. Best martini I've ever had to this day. Free jazz music on select days, we will never stop coming here. Best spot in Minneapolis.

We had to ask an employee and they showed us to the upstairs area where they had a ceremony and reception area. This was a more intimate wedding and the space for it was very nice for it. They were able to decorate it so it was very elegant. The bar did get busy during happy hour but they moved along quickly. The food was served buffet style. We got salad, mashed potatoes, pizza and a choice of beef or chicken. The portion seemed small to me. They did offer more pizza later on in the night. The dance floor was roomy enough for the people that were there. We had such a great time celebrating here! Parking was not bad either. They had a few lots and street parking around but they also did rent out a lot that we used that night. They had a family member shuttle too since it was freezing that day! Contrary, when you only get so many warm months in MN, it's best to take advantage. Known for their vast array of pizzas, my table split a fancy Bahn Mizza (mirrored after a Bahn Mi sandwich) pizza along with a traditional pepperoni. Both were exceptional! Make sure to check the menu out in advance as there were some pretty cool options such as Carolina BBQ and Taco Truck. In addition, there are plenty of fun drinks such as frozen ones, wine, beer, and mocktails (shout out mocktails). The service was great and accommodating considering the live bands performing. They had their concept down to a T and placed wrist bands when entering after collecting the fee. Note: you can save money if you buy concert tickets online as opposed to at the show. Clean Plate Club rocked it per usual. If you haven't heard of this band, check them out. They are going to play at my wedding! Rock on, Day Block Brewing!!

The food is also a standout, which isn't always the case at breweries. We especially love the pizza and the elote fries, both are consistently delicious and pair perfectly with their drinks. It's nice to have food options that go beyond the basics and actually feel like a reason to come back. The staff has always been super friendly and patient, even when it's busy, which we really appreciate. It makes the whole experience feel welcoming and easy. Inside, the space is just as great. We walked in and there was a sign telling us to sit upstairs. We walked up the stairs (later finding the elevator on our way out after wondering if this place was ADA compliant) and when we went up the stairs we found about 10 people scattered throughout the booths that surrounded the bar and a few seated at the bar. First impressions... it didn't look great but we thought hey maybe they pour a heavy drink. So we stayed for one. This was such a pleasant experience. The bartender was really cool. She was hustling but you could tell she loved her job. She mentioned she's been doing it for about 30 years. She single-handedly is the reason why I give this a four star. Then on top of that, when the chefs popped out they smiled at us and the other bar backs were equally as engaging. Perhaps it was because it wasn't a really busy night. But nevertheless, it was radically different from the other bars we went to where everyone looked miserable. We wneee up with a few drinks and a lot of laughs. We also got some neat recommendations on where to go in the area. After a few hours we realized we needed something to eat to soak our drinks up and we got the golden bbq wings with blue cheese and ranch. I thought the sauce was pretty okay. I think the crunch was perfect. I always want more sauce so that's my only critique. I can tell this place gets busy during Vikings game day. Would love to come back and experience that atmosphere. All in all, food is average. I would definitely go with their Reuben over the chicken though.

It's usually not hard to find a spot but be prepared to walk a block or two if it's a busy day. I prefer their patio when it's open, but their indoor dining is a nice vibe too. I was originally lured in by their happy hour. The rail drinks are ridiculously cheap, but honestly, their regular cocktails are worth ordering instead. I'm a loyal blueberry margarita fan, but in the summer they bust out a blueberry mojito--only when the mint is in season. Trust me, if it's available, get it. As for food, I can be a bit of a mac-and-cheese snob, but the bang bang mac is pretty solid. Not life-changing, not anything special, but I've ordered it more than once, which says something. The French onion soup, however? Let's just say I will not be revisiting that journey. I love French onion soup, but this one and I did not spiritually align. Service is fine--slower when it's packed (shocking, I know). But everyone is friendly. Overall, Off the Rails is a good stop if you're already in the neighborhood.
