Acadia is recovering nicely from the bus incident. The booths are gone, but it's still a cozy ,friendly corner bar. There is new management and the menu is a bit different, or using different ingredients for some items, but still quality bar food. We were there for an extended happy hour and I ate WAY too many fries and cheese curds. and then took some more home to share with family. I would say service has improved slightly, one of our group had a delayed order, but we as we were all showing up at different times, this is forgivable. The one thing that hasn't changed is the beer selection. Still excellent with several local favorites on tap. read more

The description and pictures on their website are misleading. The place doesn't have 28 taps! Besides that and the fact that the door was locked when we arrived (people were inside, and it was after their opening time, so that was weird), the bartender was so rude we felt like she didn't want us there, and ended up leaving. We think that she was upset that the band that was playing at 6:30 was potentially not going to show up, but maybe they weren't because of how they run the place... read more

Acadia is open again! First time visiting since they had to remodel after a bus crashed through the front of the cafe. (Whatever happened with that, btw?) I'm glad they were able to remodel and open back up! The walls were freshly painted all black and very empty. In the past, they had a lot of writing and drawings on those walls, so I'm guessing those walls will fill back up soon enough. This was my first time back in a long while, but I used to come here often during my undergrad at the U. Always good, relatively low-prices for bar food, good beers on tap, and live music and other performances (like stand up comedy). It was pretty quiet when I went around 7pm, and the service was really quick. I got a side of fries and a surly beer for about $12. So, a nice place to stop by for a quick bite! I would go again and this time really try the food menu. I have heard good things about the chicken sandwiches. Will be back! read more

We stopped in the other night with my friend and her puppy looking to grab a drink on a patio. Security went above and beyond to show us out to the patio, get us in safely, and welcome us to the bar. The crowd was cool, not overly crowded at all despite their being a good DJ playing. Drinks were reasonably priced for a slightly better than dive bar type of place. No need to get a double, the difference between our single and double pour drinks weren't very noticeable. Bartender was efficient and friendly without being fake or over the top. Bar seating and tables available inside. Outside on the patio there was a few small tables with chairs, super cute but probably not well fit for big groups. Bartender went the extra mile to bring out a water bowl for the dog. We'll be back! read more

Nice corner of the block bar and fun food place...live music. Down to earth and cozy. Fun for friends to hang out and relax over drinks and finger foods. And it was open late til 12am even on a Sunday night. Thank goodness bc I was hungry and didn't have dinner and didn't feel like cooking. Cheese curds were great! Crispy on the outside and cheese was melted inside and came out hot. I wasn't that into the ranch like dressing tho. Curds were good without any sauce anyway. I also ordered cauliflower buffalo wings w margarita chili sauce and I wasn't liking the mounds of chili sauce that was salty and oily bc it was deep fried and got mushy real fast as it was on a bed of wet cole slaw with pickled peppers. If it weren't so wet and it was on the side I would have liked it more. I will stick w the cheese curds next time. Late night they have the "temp" menu which is fair bc barely any places are open so late so thank you Acadia! Overall a nice place to chill and the waitress was so sweet. read more

Acadia was not my first choice. When walking by the establishment, it looked dingy. Some of the U of M students told me it was a cool, dive pub but I thought it looked like it should be shut down. My friends walked right in, so like the rats did with the Pied Piper, I followed. Awwwwwww.... okkkkkk... now I get it. There is construction going on next door and the prep and mess from the construction is what made it look like a dilapidated, vacated place. Inside was the cool, dive pub the students promised. Grabbed a menu, ordered at the bar and sat ourselves. Lots of great beer options as well as mixed drinks. At our table we ordered burgers, spinach salads, grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches and chili. No complaints. Tasty and delicious. We visited during lunch. They piped-in eclectic music but I saw they had a stage towards the back for live entertainment. 4 stars out of 5 because the waitress was upset about something and when we needed her assistance to clean the tables, she took a soaked rag, wiped it down and left us with puddles of water. We took napkins to wipe and dry the table as well as set it up and put everything back in place. I could mention a few other disappointing things but I'm gonna forego the negative vibes and stress the overall pleasant atmosphere and lunch. read more

Once in a while I end up here for some reason, and no matter how long it is between visits, I never really think about it. But I'm generally pleased enough to be here when I am here. Usually when I'm having a good time at Acadia it's because there's some interesting music being performed on their cute little stage. If you like the idea of a bit of live music, you should definitely pop in here some evening when they have that going on. This particular visit was a bit of a time-killer when there wasn't any music going on. I got some pretty mediocre fish and chips. Pleasant service; FWIW you order your food from the bar. There is character to the main dining room area; kind of like a "indie campus hangout trying to fit a lot of stuff in a small space" atmosphere. They actually do have some outdoor seating that would be a nice place to hang out. I just wish the food were more of a reason to come here. read more

This place has a very cool vibe. The staff are very nice and quirky. The place is pretty small but has a cool atmosphere, very tall ceilings, and live music every night. It's definitely a hangout place. The food is delicious. I was thoroughly impressed by the tasty dishes. All sandwiches and burgers but one of the best chicken-bacon sandwiches I've ever had!!! The french fries are also very crispy and the meat in the burgers and sandwiches are very very fresh. The food also came out really quick which was the cherry on top. Il there is a backyard patio in the alley where you can eat during warmer weather. It looks really cute. read more

Really cool experience. My friend and I went on a Sunday evening and they had a showcase of new artists free of cover. There is definitely a vibe to the place but I love it (except for my chair which had a wobbly leg). We ordered appetizers and the orders were huge. We got cheese curds, quesadillas and nachos (the server accidentally brought us chips and salsa but was kind enough to let us keep the order as he went to get our nachos). There's also sandwiches and salads that you can order. You order your food at the bar (or at least on the Sunday I went) and can order full or half pints of beer. Personally, I think the food was okay but loved the music and beer. read more

My uber driver missed a turn while trying to locate Town Hall for me and as I looked out the window at a red light, I saw this place; the neon beer signs suggested I promptly hop out of my uber, so that's what I did. Divey bar with the kind of bathroom that screams, "wash your hands twice" and a DJ spinning on top of milk crates to, maybe, 10 people. The service at the bar was alright, she got my flight going right away but for a craft beer bar with a decent selection of taps, it was disappointing to see the glasses dirtier than hell. read more

Ohhh, the Acadia...I've loved you since I was an undergrad at the U of M going to see free shows, and that love has only grown since I started coming for the awesome happy hour specials (pitcher specials on their huge selection of tap beer and half off apps? YES PLEASE). In grad school, I've taken some awful (AWFUL) night classes and sometimes a pre-class lubrication and hummus platter are necessary. Other good food: I adore the house-made black bean burgers which come with guacamole (and cheese but I get it without). Their side salads are good, but be sure to ask for *NO CHEESE* if you're a vegan or lactose intolerant...I once ordered the Vegan Veggie sandwich with the side salad and didn't think to ask for the salad without cheese...felt like a dope so I sucked it up and just ate around the cheese as best I could. Speaking of the Vegan Veggie, it's pretty tasty...lots of fresh veggies + hummus AND guacamole. However, I once got this while on a date and was SO self-conscious of my onion/garlic breath the rest of the night. In retrospect, it was a good move on my part. I eat onions and garlic on the daily so it's better to be up front about that ;) In addition to live shows on their teeny tiny stage, this place has a charming little alley-patio. It doesn't get a ton of sun but it's fun for a shady outdoor meal/drink session. This place gets packed inside in the evening, but I seldom have trouble finding a spot on the patio. What a great find! Every person I encountered was simply fantastic and friendly. A special shout out to the bartender Jacob...you made my day with my cold Cider and the extra lengths you made in trying to get a hold of your manager. Located near the heart of the U of M campus, Acadia offers convenient access to many venues in the area and several parking ramps. I'd never heard of it before and stumbled across it after searching for a close spot to grab dinner with a friend before checking out a show at the U. Acadia offers a cozy and welcoming environment with lots of seating, an ample tap list and a diverse menu. Drinks were a little pricey, but weren't terrible. The sandwiches we ordered were great and, like others have noted, served promptly, despite it being busy. If you're looking for an easy spot for food or drinks, definitely check Acadia out. read more

I have been here a few times & each time I was able to try a new local beer. Other reasons to love Acadia Cafe.. the guys at the bar are nice, their beer selection is vast, and the space itself is quite intimate (it does get a little loud when a band is playing), and local bands play regularly (no cover charge)... The Acadia cafe is a very laid back, funky place that fits right in with the neighborhood. I thought the hipster quotient was fairly low but that may have been atypical. Anyway, my daughter and I ate here the other night after a Fringe Fest play at The Mixed Blood Theater. We grabbed a booth, perused the menu and approached the bar. A friendly server promptly took our order: mushroom swiss burger, fries and "homemade" lemonade for me, hummus and pita with root beer for my daughter and handed us a table marker together with our beverages. The food arrived within ten minutes. I found the burger very good and the fries excellent. The lemonade was refreshing if a bit watery. My daughter enjoyed her plate, finding the hearty, flavorful hummus much to her liking with plenty of kalamatta olives, onions and such to add zest. No live music during our visit so I can't speak to the noise level and corresponding challenge to holding a conversation it might present. A solid, no frills establishment serving well prepared food at reasonable prices. read more

Visited on a Wednesday night before a show at Triple Rock. Staff was exceedingly helpful and courteous. Food was solid, and it arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. Burger was above average, and the side salad (I substituted at no charge) was great. I didn't try any of the beers or wine, but there was an extensive selection. I have worked on seven corners for 4 years and have not been here until this week! I don't know what I was thinking. Their food is great and their tap selection is even better! It was simple and perfect. My buddy was in town from across the world. We had a nice walk through campus to reminisce on old times when we decided to get lunch and a beer at Acadia. I had the Classic Turkey sandwich. Simple turkey sandwich with their own chipotle mayo served on 7-grain bread. Great for lunch. They have hand-cut fries to accompany the delicious sandwich too. However, there were way too many to finish! They have Summit's Oatmeal Stout on tap, among many other beers you wouldn't imagine to see! You don't see this beer on tap a lot, so I had to indulge. Just like I remembered, sweet, smooth and delicious for an afternoon treat. They have beer for everyone. We sat on the patio that is tucked between Acadia and Mapps Coffee. It is an odd spot for the patio, but it is intimate enough for conversation without taking away the city feel. You need to order from the counter. We only saw our server when he brought out the food, but that was all we needed. My meal and beer was $15 including tip. Just what I was looking for that day! read more

I used to live down the street from the original Acadia. I had enjoyed it's theater, catching a few plays, a band or two and even a City Council debate there. I curse the condos and starbucks that drove them out. A minor diversion: if you are one of those people that frequent starbucks that set up shop next door to existing, independent coffee shops, I want you to die. You are the scum of the earth. Acadia relocated to the West Bank, a neighborhood I've become found of lately. I was worried when they moved in next door to another, better establighed coffee shop. However, rather than compete Acadia apparently decided to focus on beer and food. I've been 3 times, and I couldn't tell you for sure they even served coffee. They have a very good beer selection (besting the Nomad, IMO). The food is better than Town Hall (very hit or miss) and is therefore my go to dining destination on the West Bank (sorry, Hard Times). The interior is bright and friendly. I would think this a great place to study, if you desire beer accompaniment instead of coffee. I brought a book last time, but wound up starting a conversation with a couple fells st the bar. I lost an hour to pointless musings on German beers (and related topics), and that's okay with me. Service could be a little less lackadaisical. Hopefully, with time. read more

I had the hummus plate during the awful bongo session. Good hummus, delicious feta and warm pita bread contributed greatly to my evening drunk munchies. Just stopped by today after a stressful career fair. Although your bartender thought my id was totally fake - to be fair, I no longer sport the angry look and buzz cut as indicated on my driver's license - he was pretty nice to me after he realized otherwise. Your homemade fries are delicious. They manage to be both soggy and crispy at the same time. They are delicious by themselves, but even more so with ketchup. Excellent tap list, excellent casual music venue, awkward ordering/bill paying. I can't speak to the food at Acadia, since my typical outings usually consist of grabbing a drink while listening to some local music (which they feature regularly). They have an impressive variety of beers, both local and obscure, and their selection rotates frequently. I just really, really wish there was an easier system of paying for food/drinks. It's counter service, and maneuvering your way to the crowded bar is really tricky in this awkwardly laid out space, especially during evening hours. I've never had an experience where this process went smoothly. Know before you go: they offer 2 hours of validated parking in the lot next to the restaurant! read more

With a handful more visits to this place this year, 2016, it's my experience that more often than not, the french fries are no longer great - they're served a lukewarm temp, or they're burnt-looking and greasy and lukewarm. Love the beer selection, the hood isn't my favorite as parking can be a pain and the area itself needs to be cleaned up a bit. But, worth a stop for a pint. I enjoyed some Rogue Yellow Snow IPA (great name, eh?) with a nice cup of soup the other day. If you are in the area, go a few blocks north (I think) to the Town Hall Brewery and compare the two. I think their menu is a bit more solid (but still basically pub fare) and they brew their own beer. I had really high expectations going to Acadia, and maybe that was the problem, because I really didn't see all of the hype surrounding the place. The first issue was parking... They do have a shared lot attached but for two hours, it was $6. My friend who got there a couple minutes before me (yes a couple minutes...) had to pay $9!! It didn't seem like there were many other options, so unless you don't want to be there longer than an hour, taking public transportation might be a better option before it adds up, making it an expensive outing. Was quite unpleasantly surprised to see that parking bill. Happy hour goes until 7pm which is great...appetizers are all $4.99 and there are some good drink specials too. It sounds like getting a beer is the way to go, but not having known this, I got a gin and tonic and sadly it was pretty flat, no carbonation whatsoever. My friend who had a vodka soda and said the same thing and ended up having to ask for another splash of Sprite. For appetizers, we ordered fish tacos and the nachos. The fish tacos were pretty good...it comes with two, and they are each served with two soft shells (why?)... I would recommend just eating them with one so you get less of the bread and more of the flavor. Personal choice I guess. The nachos had a lot of condiments but they were all piled in the center and couldn't easily be broken apart since the cheese encrusted it, so it ended up being mostly chips. If you ask, you'll get a tiny dish of sour cream and salsa. We then tried the chicken strips for something a little more substantial buuuut they weren't breaded or crispy, instead they had the outer consistency of cheese curds. I don't mind a bit of fried food here and there, but it was a little overwhelming when you don't have many other options. I know, it's a bar, so what can you expect after all, but even at that, I probably will not be rushing back anytime soon. On the up-side...service was good and the servers friendly... However, all of that being said, it's on the U of M campus and it's not expensive. Perhaps the better option is to opt for a beer or two and stick with that and then I'm sure you will not be disappointed (in which case, count me in!). read more

Fantastic beer selection....Friendly service....Fine atmosphere. And the food? Have to say I haven't found a favorite yet. Still, that's not going to stop me from returning, probably with some frequency. My first visit was for lunch, shortly after Acadia moved from Nicollet to Cedar-Riverside. My sandwich, the chipotle turkey, was fine, although nothing to write home about, and yet, I liked the place right from the start. It was good to see that it was already bustling with customers, too. Clearly Acadia had developed a good, strong following at its previous location. I left, vowing to return. Next time I stopped was for breakfast. Again, the food was fine, but this time the place was quiet. I found myself looking around a lot, including at passersby on the sidewalk, and at the fantastic array of beers on tap. I knew that the next time I dropped in it would be later in the day. And so it was. Acadia's selection of tap and bottled beers is what will continue calling me back. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, I ordered a black bean burger, topped off with a Wild Devil IPA. A fan of Victory Brewing's Hop Devil, I was confident that this was a sure bet--and it was. However, with some 30 taps to choose from it did take some studying and careful thought before I made my decision. (I didn't even glance at the more than 40 bottled beers Acadia offers.) Food prices are reasonable here, and looking at the menu online I see any number of sandwiches, breakfasts, and salads I'd be happy to try. Next time I'll likely go still later in the day, with friends, to sample more of Acadia's beer offerings...and food...with some music on the side. read more

I spend the majority of my school semesters here. It's too close to Carlson & Hanson halls to not take advantage of it. As someone making a point of trying new beer all the time, I can always find something new & intriguing on tap at the Acadia. You can't deny happy hour here, especially if you're looking for a place for a group meeting. $4 off pitchers can take you far. Half-priced apps also ensure you'll stick around for a while. I prefer chips & guac, but people feeling more gluttonous should go for the sweet potato rounds & cheese curds. Even if you miss happy hour, food prices aren't going to force you to sacrifice that third drink. The Acadia is also a surprisingly good place to study. If you don't like getting over-caffeinated with 3 lattes as you sit at Starbucks all night, consider beer as a good study aid. This place is quiet enough in the afternoon where you can grab a chair on stage, plug in your headphones, and go to work. They do have coffee if it suits your fancy, but that's like ordering wine at Dunn Bros. Late-night shows and poetry readings can be hit-and-miss, depending on why you're going here in the first place. They have a "no cover songs" policy, but that didn't stop this jazz band I saw once from covering Bjork's "All is Full of Love." Fortunately, the cover was good enough to merit the exception. If you're near campus and looking for good brew, this is the place for you. read more

They have renovated the stage for the local musicians to get their rockstar on and be sure to check out the back patio which is a great place to smoke, joke and toke (if your into that) with your friends over a pint and a burger. There's never a huge line at the bar and the service is super helpful if you can't make up your mind on what to drink. I am so grateful for Acadia's proximity to the U of M West Bank because I love stopping in to devour a black bean burger and try a new type of beer whenever possible. Seriously, the selection is great. It's small and somewhat shabby inside, but that's what makes it charming. There's always an interesting mix of people and something likeable about the overall ambiance that you can't quite put your finger on. Yet another West Bank gem to check off my list! Like many others, I've walked by Acadia plenty of times without ever noticing it or going in, but I finally did last week. It was pretty empty on a Wednesday afternoon (I suppose it's also summer), and ordered the black bean burger. The fact that the burger came with avocado AND chipotle mayo won me over immediately. The fries weren't anything special, but I'll come back for the burger anytime. From my quick glance at the rest of the menu, there are plenty of things I'll be happy to try. Service was pretty nice, and hopefully I'll be around when they have live music next time. I have a feeling you'll see me around here a lot more this year! Update: The love for Acadia keeps coming in! Though I came in craving a huge burger today and nothing was going to get in my way, I ended up getting a spinach salad and LOVED it. You like beer, here is your damn place. They have crazy amounts of beer that you won't find in most places. Probably the best beer bar in the Cities. Right up there with the Happy Gnome. Holy crap, Rodenbach on tap....yes please! They also have great food. It's more of a laid back experience so don't expect to necessarily get the most dashing service. I think that you have to order up at the counter some times...not quite sure. First time I was there I went at a weird time during the day and ended up hanging out and talking with the staff about beer and the upcoming revitalized Cedar fest. They ended up giving me a few samples and made the price tag seem worth it when I finally decided on what I wanted. Next time I popped in I walked into a great local band lead by Gabe Barnett. He made some funny, scary faces while singing but man were they money! Jug band, banjo, acoustic guitar...with a side of beer. yeah. I'll have another. One of the coolest things about this bar (besides the beer) is the live music, almost every night. Don't expect to hear any cover songs...they are simply not allowed. Two stars for great beer selection and no cover on stage presence. At 10pm on Saturday when I visited, you had to order the food at the bar, then go sit and wait. I don't mind ordering drinks at the bar, but ordering food seemed strange. Perhaps they have a good reason for this policy. The food is where the problems with this place sit. I ordered a fish sandwich (can't remember what they called it. The fish was cooked properly, but nothing else was. The onion roll was burnt, the fries were luke warm/ cold. I finished what I could and then took it upon myself to watch the kitchen staff in action. I couldn't see the grill, so not sure if one was used or not, but I did see the cooks placing various items in the microwave. Maybe this is where the problems started, not sure. I never even noticed this place, and it's on the corner of cedar-riverside. On a Sat. afternoon it was packed. It was solo live music time. I met up with a friend who was performing there. They have a great bar menu. I ordered a spinach salad, that came with a tangy, homemade dressing. My friend got a portobello mushroom sandwich on grilled panini. He frequents here, probably being a musician.Good sized space that doesn't get too cramped. read more
