I walked in this place while visiting MN a few years ago, shortly after Acadia had opened, and nearly gasped. All those tap handles! It was quite exciting to see. I was in MN again over the weekend and had to stop back in. This place just gets me. It speaks to my soul. It's the kind of place I'd hang out in all the time if I lived nearby. Love the decor. Kind of dark, lots of space, lots of beer paraphernalia. I kind of like that you have to order at the counter. The place just seems so low-key and chill. And the servers have always been friendly. The place just gives me a good vibe. The food has always been excellent. I love the black bean burger, though the patty is a little mushier than most I've tried - so just go in knowing that. I like it, but it's a texture thing and some people don't like mushy. The burger comes with jalapenos, cheese, guac and some other sauce. Just super yummy. The cheese curds were ... not like the State Fair's. They were a little burned, but still good. I mean, you can't go too wrong with fried curds of cheese. The beer selection/variety rocks. I love the local focus. And all the draft options. Overall, just a great place to get a cheap-ish plate of food, good beer and hang out. read more

This is a great place for almost any occasion. Alone, a date, waiting for their music or any neighboring venue's music, karaoke, you name it! For starters, there is a parking lot right next door, and if you are only staying for dinner, you're in luck because they will give you a little sticker that is magical and makes parking free! Who doesn't love free parking? If you like paying, please pick me up like every night and pay parking so I can go places. Otherwise, meters only go until 6 and you might be in luck! They were like the first bar to have a lot of beers on tap, their motto "no crap on tap" rings true. They are able to keep up with Minneapolis wildly changing demands for good beer and will add the latest and greatest to their menu. I also really appreciate how their beer menu has always been laid out. Simple and by type of beer. I know a lot of places do this now, but few achieved success at this early. I can't remember the full details of it's serving structure since I have gone on super dead nights or times, but when it is that way, you order at the bar. You get a number and someone lovely will bring you great food. I believe I have had a server when it gets busy! A word of caution, it does get hella busy on weekends! For the food, standard bar food, but their Black Bean Burger is my favorite of it's variety. It comes with Pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, guac and chipotle mayo, it's firm and delicious! For $7.75, it's worth it. It is served with regular burger sides (Lettuce, onions, tomato, pickle) and fries. For only $0.50 you can exchange for a salad, which is just simple greens, but the dressing is awesome. The boy had the West Bank burger and said it was awesome and the fries were good! Okay, so they were busy. 40 minutes later I'm thinking "Hey, this is like salad on bread, what's the deal?" and then I notice that many people who had ordered more complicated meals after me had already been served. Acadia Café is such an everything occasion kind of place. I like to go here before a show at the Turf Club or The Cedar. It has a real dive bar feel, and the food is awesome. It always seems to be busy and bustling with energy. Last time I ordered the soup of the day which was a curry chili. I could have eaten an entire gallon of this! Why have I not made this at home before? Brilliant Acadia staff, this hit the spot on that cold, snowy night. If you are into live local music, this is also the place to be. Came here as part of the Light Rail Pub Crawl and we stopped in for some beers! The HH is from 4-7PM and it is just a 4 minutes walk from the Light Rail Station. It was really empty when we got there, but they seem to have a great line up of musicians and performers, so if that is your thing, I would check this place out! Their logo is NO CRAP ON TAP, and they have such a variety of beers. I am not a huge beer drinker but it def. seems like one of those neighborhood places that only the cool locals know about. I definitely enjoyed the West Bank Burger I got on Sunday morning from this place. Not that there was an extreme rush, but I had to wait for my food for half an hour or so. As a party of 1. I come here for lunch once a month or so. After experimenting with different sandwiches and burgers I settled on the veggie melt: very very very good. The french fries though are lacking, or better they are not what I like. They are slightly burnt and soggy, I think they are meant to be that way, I just happen to like crunchy... On the other hand you can substitute with soup, salad or sweet fries which are all OK. Also the burger West Bank burger is pretty good They have a decent beer selection and here I once tried the Surely Bitter, I have been looking for it ever since and never found it again. Is a lager kind of beer and I happened to like it a lot, unfortunately seems to be untraceable.... I also was there for happy hour a couple of times. I stopped by Acadia for lunch with a friend on a weekday because it was close to campus. There were some people at the bar and one person studying in a booth. It was quiet and fairly clean. I ordered the Banh Mi and French fries. The banh mi was delicious, tasted very fresh, and the fries were great and crunchy. The service was great and quick. I liked that you order and pay at the bar Because you're free to hang out for a while and leave afterwards and it seems quicker. Don't be surprised if you aren't checked on by anybody, but it's casual enough that you can go to the bar and ask for anything you need I really enjoyed Acadia and would recommend it for a lunch option if you're on West Bank and tired of eating Panda Express and subway. read more

Totally still 5 stars for Acadia - I'm here yelping from a booth on the corner of 4th and Cedar and enjoying the different crowd during the day. I am hunkering down some fries and a beer and settling in to study (don't judge me, I'm from Wisconsin) metabolism for the afternoon. They have Crispin! I've been wanting to try that, so that was exciting. However, they ditched their other cider beer, which is vaguely disappointing, as the other one was slightly cheaper. However, Crispin is a bit more tasty. So, I'm alright with it. They are training someone today, so I had to wait a bit for my drink, but I've been there and you have to train them sometime, so whatever. They are smart to train them during the day! They were drilling him on all the different beers - I appreciate that! I like my acadia employees with their information about my beer. Anyway, yay Acadia! read more

I arrived at Acadia cafe for a Thursday lunch. Upon entering the tired cafe (it's really essentially just a bar with a large dining area), I was greeted by a sign requesting that I order at the bar--a request i was happy to oblige. I ordered a chipotle turkey sandwich, because I love most sandwiches with swiss cheese, and sat down and waited patiently. It seemed like the wait was extended. It felt like about 15 minutes, but it was probably closer to 10, which I didn't really understand since I just ordered a sandwich (though I did request it to be grilled, which probably adds 2-3 minutes). Eventually it arrived, and the sandwich was good. It seemed like it was lacking in the flavor department, but still good. The fries were underwhelming. The meal was worth the $7 I paid, but I don't think I'd pay any more. The one thing that this place has going for it is their beer selection, which I was not able to take advantage of, since my employer discourages drinking during lunch breaks. So, if I ever were to visit during the evening, I'd probably give it a 4. Such is life! read more

I could have had a really good time trying all the different beer but I just opted for the special, 'the bartenders choice.' I left before the band started but they have live music every night. This is one of my favorite places for great beer. They have amazing beer flights and I always find something new to enjoy. Also, I love the cheese curds. They are generous with portions, so bring a friend! The location is also great. It is near Seven Corners and the light rail, a must-see on the west-bank. Fantastic bar with delicious eats. The Classic Club came cut in quarters spread out amongst slices of sweet potato fries and a tiny cup of chipotle mayo in the middle. Fairly nice presentation for "bar food." The staff were so friendly! It was Halloween and my husband's band was playing the tap premiere event of Hammerheart brews... so yeah, it was fairly busy and they could have easily been crabby bartenders hatin' on costumes but they weren't. They were patient with ordering and tabs and one guy even brought me a water without me asking for it (I had ordered water, then ginger ale, then he brought me a new water). So attentive! I knocked a star off because of the mix of bands that were playing that night on the lineup. The genres were just too different and it felt strange. Great atmosphere and decor. Parking is not so bad either - free after 6pm at the meters! read more

I had forgotten how much I loved this place! I've never eaten here, but the bar portion of this bar is definitely what I would consider impressive. Their beer list is insane. There were probably 40-50 different cans/bottles, and another twenty taps. Those taps, of course, being primarily local! Tons of fun! They have live music or other activities most nights. I feel like Acadia gets overlooked sometimes, which makes me sad. It's in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood, which I know has a bit of a reputation- but it's really not scary over there, I promise! What the acadia is great for is their beer selection. It's superb, especially for the neighborhood it's in. Their bartenders are also well versed in the craft of classic cocktail mixology. You'd be more likely to get a properly prepared manhattan or old fashioned than have the bartender know what the you're talking about when you order a slippery nipple or buttery nipple or whatever absurd shot people are sloppily slurping these days. The food is really good too. Their vegetarian/vegan sandwich is indeed off the hook. While I still prefer Hard Times eats, sometimes I'm just not in the mood for a sh#! show of sorts. Then, sometimes I am. Speaking of sh*$ shows, I can't say that I've been entirely crazy about some of the musical lineups I've encountered at Acadia. I will forever support venues that support local music though, so perhaps my snobbery should be set aside. If I had my way they'd definitely bring back the old Tuesday night improvisation that they had at the old Franklin/Nicollet location. Just visited the Acadia Cafe for the first time this weekend. It was insanely busy, as there was a live band playing, but my experience was positive. My friend and I were lucky enough to find an open booth--although there were still dishes sitting there from the last patrons. And that's my one complaint--the waiters didn't clean the table for us, and although I know they were busy, this is unacceptable. Food was delicious--we ended up ordering the cod sandwich and chicken bacon sandwich and splitting them. The sweet potato fries were great as well. I ordered the Moose Drool Brown Ale--very good. Their selection of beers on tap is extensive. Nothing in particular stood out about this restaurant, but I would go back! read more

The Acadia Cafe is one of my favorite places in the West Bank area. When you step in, you will be greeted by a small darkly lit space. Bar on the left side and some booths and a tables surrounding it with a stage on the far right. I would not recommend coming here with a group larger than 4 as seating is limited and it always seems super busy. Happy hour is a great deal if you are buying pitchers, you won't find any swill that is marketed as beer at this bar. They have an impressive selection of taps, many of them are local brews. Drink up. Food is also very good here, if you are ordering something that comes with their french fries, resist the urge to upgrade or substitute. Those fries are the bomb. read more

Their beer selection/variety/price is well cover in other reviews. However, Acadia also offers some delectable food options for those coming in looking for a bite to eat. This is one of my regular spots to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to class. The menu is pretty simple but longer, more diverse, and prepared with a little more care than your typical dive bar. Their TexMex burger is my personal favorite menu item. If its a particularly cold day be sure to try the Big Ted's chili. It'll put hair on your chest! You place your order at the bar, take a tap handle and a seat, and your food will be served shortly. I tried Acadia today for my first time. It was a cold and rainy Sunday, overcast to the dickens. I was feeling hollow and beaten down from the weather. And then I went inside Acadia to be filled up and renewed. The bright smiles and friendly demeanor of the employees cheered me right up. And their tip jar that has an old school Yo! MTV Rap trading card of LL Cool J taped to the side brightened my dismal day even more. Oh Acadia. . . how do you manage to make me love you so quickly? I had one of their 27 beers that they have on tap, Point's Nude Beach, and really enjoyed it. I was quite impressed with how many beers they have and that the menu offers a bit of a description about each beer. 27 beers on tap? Sheesh!! I could never get bored with this place :) They also boast quite a selection of bottled beers. For food, I had their vegetarian black bean burger and my socks were knocked completely off and into another dimension!!! I'm not one to choose vegetarian meals, typically, but the blurb about the burger on the menu made my mouth water instantly. A black bean burger smothered in pepper jack cheese with jalapenos and guacamole all on a toasted bun. Yum! This tasty burger came with a side of delicious fries that were the perfect compliment to my meal. I've never had a burger made of black beans, so I may not be the best measure for such a meal, but the bean patty was moist and scrumptious. Oh so yummy! As I sat in the restaurant, chewing my food as slowly as possible so that I may savor every delicious morsel, I took in the surroundings of my new favorite burger/beer joint. Acadia has a stage for bands/musicians to play at and fliers on the walls to inform customers of future shows. Also adorning the walls were pieces of art that seemed interesting enough. I have not heard how their music events carry out, but with a beer selection such as Acadia's, it'd definitely be worth stopping in for a listen and a sip. read more

This is a gem! They have a prime beer selection, good food (I'm a fan of the fries, and the Rachel), and live (usually local original acoustic, or semi-acoustic) music almost every night. There aren't really servers often, you just go to the bar to order what you want. It's not a great place for mingling, so much....it gets pretty constipated when there's more than 50 people or so, but when the patio opens in the nicer months it can be a little more fun. It's worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a fancy brew, some harty grub, or random late-night music. If you don't find what you fancy here, you can mosy on down the road and find more very low cost live music options almost any night of the week, too, so it's a good place to start (or stop....since some of the drink specials kick in after 10 or 10:30). read more

Stopped in again. New Year's Day night we stopped in, right the typical dead bar night, those are the kind of nights I love. We had a party of four. Some of the others ordered an appetizer, which they were happy with, and when the rest of our food came it was done well.... except... my sweet potato rounds were overcooked to the point I had to select the more edible ones. Oh well, if you expect everything to be perfect all the time you will continually be let down. At some point after the first beer I decided it would be funny to get my co-worker friend redrunk. So we had a few more rounds, something different everytime (that's just the kinda fellas we are), simply enjoying the variety of beer Acadia offers and we appreciate. Although we couldn't understand a thing the musician was singing, his version of the blues helped set the tone for a mildly debaucherous evening which likely ended in some girlfriend being offput with one of the partakers. I don't want to just repeat the many reviews that are already on Yelp about this place but it is a pretty chill place to grab some beer and listen to some good music, and sometimes a little weird music, depending upon what you're into. The beer list is expansive and I believe on Thursdays they have local taps at a small discount. The pitchers are the only way you're going to save any bucks here so bring some friends, or don't..I won't judge. The food is probably the most underrated things here. It is delicious! Ok ok, it helps that I was already a couple of great local craft brews in but I thought the food was very well done and so did the rest of the party I was with. Throw in some good local bands that like to sing you into a blissful daydream and this place soon becomes a favorite hangout of the same crowd, so go to check it out or go to become one of the many regulars. I have to recommend their Reuben sandwich and they've got a great beer selection. They do Beer Flights so you can try out some at the higher end and find your favorite. If you spend a few bucks, they validate parking in the lot behind it, but not in the ramp. I really wish it was still in my neighborhood, but that's my only problem with the place. read more

I've had everything here from burgers to salads as this is pretty close to my college and withing my price range. If you like little hipster bars, you're in the right place. Live music, beer, and the best french fries on the face of the earth. If you don't like noise, don't go. It's pretty loud because hey, it's a bar and it's got live music. If you want it to be a bit quieter, go during lunch hours because it gets louder later at night. If you're expecting to be waited on hand and foot, don't go. You go up for your food and your refills. You walk in and there's some menus to look at, when you know what you want you walk up to the bar and let them know, and you pay up front. Then they give you a table marker (usually a beer tap) to set on your table and you find yourself a seat. They will bring your stuff out to you when you're ready. As for refills on pop you have to get up and get it yourself. I've yet to have anything bad there but like I said earlier, the french fries are ungodly good. You get them with burgers and sandwiches or you can order a basket for your table. After I first had them, I've never been there and not had them. Foods include burgers, soups, salads, and sandwiches for the most part but they have coke products and a full bar as well as cool jams to listen to. They've also been really good about sponsoring my colleges musicians as well as musicians from the University of Minnesota which is really nice. My only big beef with them is that a lot of times I can't find somewhere to sit because all the tables are still dirty from the last person that sat there. read more

I have experienced the Acadia from two sides: As a customer, my experience was great! The staff is pretty friendly, the food is cheap plentiful and tasty and it has live music. However, as a musician this place may want to be avoided. Hearing back from their booking agent was always late, and it's not a good venue for loud music. For us (an indie rock band) we had to have our opening act play acoustically because the manager didn't want us disturbing the dinner crowd, which is understandable to a degree, but we were informed of this last minute making it an extra hassle. Another issue I have with the Acadia is they pay the talent by a % of the bar tab, and being that it's an all ages venue, many of the bands won't make much. Our band headlined with two other bands opening, we had a decent turnout and only made $20 for all 3 bands to split! All in all its a decent venue with friendly staff and good food. Just make sure to have a drinking crowd if you want to make $ as a musician. read more

Environment is a little too college and barely post-college for me. The beer selection is mid-priced but excellent. The food is average, though their veggie burger is tasty, as are the fries. I've eaten here MANY times. They have a sign out front that says "No crap on tap". I always misread it as "No carp on tap." Really good service. Here's what I liked and here's what I didn't: Likes: -Chocolate chunk cookies -- Seriously fantastic. -West Bank Burger - Perfectly done, so tasty, best buns ever -Chipotle Mayo - It really makes everything better. -Sweet potato chips - Kind of soggy, but still really good. -Greek salad - I mean, it's just a greek salad. I've wanted to come here for a long time. Vegetarian options, a noteworthy beer selection , and famously delicious fries are some of my favorite things. It was during happy hour on a weekday, but the place was mostly empty and pretty dirty to be honest. There was a sign that said "order at the bar " so we did. We each got drinks and veggie melt sandwiches (and I got the fry sampler), and we sat down. After about fifteen minutes the food came out but we still hadn't gotten our drinks (a tap beer and a fountain drink ). We slowly ate the food, waiting for our drinks (or some indication of how to receive them) but they never came. The sandwiches were supposed to have "portabella mushrooms and roasted bell peppers" but was honestly mostly a soggy glob of onions, gooey cheese and an overwhelming pile of half cooked *green* bell peppers. After we finished eating I went back to the bar. The bartender was chatting with people who appeared to work there (about picking up shifts... etc.) I asked if we could have our drinks now (since it was that, or leave without them ) and he just said "yeah, what did you get again? ". When they came we chugged them as quick as possible so that we didn't have to sit there any longer. I'm sure I won't be back. read more
