    Leg of lamb sandwich
    Katrina M.

Just what my friend and I were looking for tonight! After a chilly day outside and a failed attempt to eat at a different spot because it was too busy we arrived at 1029. Looked busy from the outside based on all the parked cars but we walked in and immediately found a table. A mellow crowd, some at the bar, some playing darts, some enjoying food at nearby tables. Our server was quick to greet us and take our drink orders. I tried the Spicy Lemonade, not spicy, but tastes like lemonade. Not impressive but I wasn't expecting a fancy cocktail from a dive bar. Appetizer: Jalapeño Cheese Curds! Yum!!!!! Really tasty! Leg of lamb sandwich for me! Super tender meat accompanied by a yummy stock? (I'm guessing) as the dipping sauce. Fries on the side tossed with old bay, yay! Love them! And my friend had the incredible bacon Mac which I could honestly eat all night it is so good. Such a large portion too you get to take some home and share it. It was the perfect meal for a chilly fall night. Comfort food for the win!!

Happy hour before our concert tonight and the chicken sandwich was perfect. Deviled eggs also a great option for a quick app. Service is alway quick. Vibes are great.

1029 has the most amazing food and atmosphere!! My friends and I always go for bingo on Saturdays and it is definitely the place to be. I love their casual atmosphere and abundance of friendly staff. Though they do have the typical bar food for the most part, there is something for everyone and something to say as the original smack shack. I always get the grilled chicken burger and it is so tasty and their fries are to die for. I can't wait till Saturday!!

I was so excited to finally try this place! We got unlucky in the sense that there was some kind of cornhole tournament or competition happening when we arrived so parking was hard to find. But once we got there, we sat outside on their lovely patio and were helped right away! I got the Mac n cheese and my friend got the shrimp basket. The Mac n cheese was really good but very rich so I could only eat about half, but at least I had leftovers! If you're worried about the idea of corn in Mac n cheese, don't be. I could barely taste it and it just add a little pop. My friends shrimp basket looked good, the shrimp were on the smaller side but I think I'll try that next time!

    Clam chowder 9/10

My husband said that the clam chowder was a 4 out of 5. We split a wedge salad hamburger and it was very good. The bun could be improved upon - it was not anything special or incredibly yum or anything like that - very average. The bartenders were attentive and made a good drink. They have a few choices on tap for beer - a bit better selection that at your average dive bar. The wings were good - flavor seemed like it was buffalo (they have one flavor called 1029). We will definitely go again - there is a meat raffle every Friday night. And the guy we sat next to at the bar said that they often have Karaoke nights also.

A very fun easy going bar. They play good music and have a friendly, welcoming aura. The staff are very nice and attentive. They offer pull tabs and darts. The decor is very interesting but a good laugh. Police badges and bras everywhere.

It's a dive bar in NE Minneapolis. Typical seat yourself and menus at the table. Visited on a Saturday afternoon right around lunch time and the place was pretty full, people appeared to have arrived very early for 2pm bar bingo. It took about 10 minutes for our server to greet us and ask us what we'd like for beverages. We all picked water... the champion of hydration. :-) When she finally returned we ordered and split the jalapeño cheese curds, patty melt, and onion burger. Jalapeño cheese curds were pretty decent- definitely NOT spicy. Patty melt was my least favorite as it had an odd sauce on it that my pallet was not a fan of so, I wouldn't get that again. Onion burger was the best thing we ordered. The amount of onions on the burger were the best. What lacked for me was the service. I understand a bar is busy around lunch time, however, when your server is visiting with her customers that appear to be more like friends to her, it's irritating as a customer. Especially, when you're waiting for a refill on your beverage of choice and/or your check. My time is just as valuable as a customer and I feel like I don't matter as a customer. The lack of checking in is very rude and just leaves me with a bad taste. You really feel unimportant as a customer when you receive service like this.

1029 is still one of our favorite spots in NE Minneapolis! Their food remains high-quality and the outdoor patio is a great spot to enjoy an afternoon lunch or dinner. We got our usuals, lobster mac & cheese, wings w/ fries and the connecticut style lobster roll. Absolutely delicious! Parking can be dicey (small parking lot or street parking), but we normally always find a spot in their parking lot. 10/10 recommend

Favorite spot in the Twin Cities! Love sitting at the bar or in the corner booth. Always nice service and you cannot beat the food. Never have had to wait more than 10-15 to get food. Come here at least once a month. Never misses!

Just as amazing as smack shack! Can't beat the lobster Mac and wings! Prices have definitely sky rocketed over recent years, we used to come here for a cheaper meal that smack but since our last visit we realized they aren't too much different from one another. Patio is awesome, staff kills it, and the vibes are still divvy.

It's a dive, obviously. It smells like stale beer and there are flies everywhere. Although the stale beer smell is expected in a dive, the flies were pretty gross and off putting for me. The table was a little sticky and gross too. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. They could benefit from some light cleaning! The server was super friendly and our food came out really fast. I got the bacon mac and cheese and it was AMAZING. You cannot go wrong with any of their macs. It's what they're known for!

We did takeout from the 1029 Bar a few weeks ago, and this place offers up some Smack Shack classics which you may have already had at their full location out in North Loop. This time I opted for the shrimp basket with fries and it was absolutely delicious. The box is packed to the brim with shrimp and fries that are all super crispy. Hit it with the lemon juice and dip it into the special sauce, and you have a perfect meal. I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life and be happy. I did not stay at the bar however, and based on my brief interaction picking up the food, I probably will stick to the 1029 bar for takeout/dining and not really for hanging out for drinks. It's very much a dive bar with an older clientele compared to some of the other nearby bars in Northeast. I will definitely be coming back for takeout soon though, absolutely incredible!

    Onion burger. 10/10 amazing.
    Stephanie B.

My cousin brought me here for lunch and I was absolutely blown away by the onion burger. I substituted a clam chowder as the side and it was delicious as well. I'm told the burger specials are always good as well as the lobster menu, but I'm telling you the onion burger was 10/10. Good drink offerings, ok but not great service though I wasn't expecting fine dining service so it's all good. Highly recommend this spot for food.

The decor is fun, it's like a fever dream of a newspaper themed pirate cove with downtown holiday sparkle. Walking in, there's a news-themed entry, then you see a mermaid reading a newspaper at a pirate ship bar playing sports games on the TVs. It's wild, but it's so fun. We had great seats at a table by the window looking out to downtown, which was great for people watching while we waited for our food. We were also entertained by the football and hockey games on the TVs. Our waitress was swift, but we waited a while for her to come back to cash us out after we ate. I ordered their burger with fries and a Pinot noir on the side. The burger was cooked nicely at medium well. There were several cocktails that sounded great, but a nice burger and dry red was calling to me that night. My husband got the Korean bbq fried chicken sandwich and we split that and the burger halfsies. I liked the chicken sandwich, but not as much as I enjoyed the burger. A fun choice for a meal in downtown Minneapolis, don't let the reviews steer you away. Hopefully you can catch the bartender climbing the rope stairs for a bottle!

The restaurant was understaffed - the bartender was not only running the bar but also serving the entire dining area. We sat at the bar and waited about 10 minutes before being greeted. We also overheard a nearby table voice frustration about the slow service. We're pretty patient, so it wasn't the end of the world, but it was noticeably slow. That said, once we were helped, our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered a Spicy Margarita and my husband went with an Old Fashioned. My margarita was on the weaker side; not bad, just forgettable. My husband enjoyed his Old Fashioned. For food, we tried the Bang Bang Shrimp, Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and the Crab-Stuffed Portabella. The standout was definitely the Bang Bang Shrimp; we both really liked it. The lettuce wraps and stuffed mushroom were fine, just not dishes we'd return specifically for. The overall vibe was calm and low-key, and the staff was kind despite being stretched thin. I'm glad we gave it a try, but it's probably not a place we'll be rushing back to.

The bar server greeted us and let us know how to order. We were both starving and wanted to get some tacos. I had the chicken tinga and the braised beef. I really loved the chicken tinga but the braised beef just did not have a lot of flavor. I also had a side of beans, they were definitely undercooked and again, not a ton of flavor with them. I also had the horchata, it is a small glass filled with ice, so not sure it is worth the price point or at least order two. The guacamole was amazing and I would definitely get that if you go! Centro is in a nice location that's near the Rosedale Mall but not all the traffic. I haven't been to this restaurant since it's been remodeled (previously Good Earth) and it's very trendy, IG worthy. Bright colors, murals on the inside/outside. It was seat yourself dining. And "scan the QR code to order". However, we did have the waiter take everyone's order because it was going to be ONE BIG BILL. Drinks came out, then we ordered food (apps for some, entrees for the rest). Great happy hour deals on drinks, and chips w/ dips. I ordered a Guava Margarita. It came in a lowball glass, garnished with a lime and spicy tajin rim. It was strong enough for me. Tattersall.... say no more! Tasted like a normal Marg, guava didn't stand out. Apps were shared. Chips were warm and salty. Guac was above average. Salsa and queso stood out more. Cool Ranch wings with ranch dip. Others loved them. I didn't taste much "Cool Ranch". Dirty Yuka fries. I got to try 1 but grabbed lots of its toppings and sauce. Don't know what a YUKA is but that was good. I would have had another if there were some left. Now my entree.. the Elote Carnitas Crunch wrap. Didn't come with any sides (rice, beans) or dipping sauce. Although I did steal some leftover Ranch from the wings. I cut it in half for easier eating and it looked beautiful. Due to the Carnitas, it was very drippy/messy/wet. I rolled up my sleeves, and made sure I had it over the plate vs my lap. It really didn't need a dipping sauce. It had some heat to it, and it built with each bite. But it was a good heat; tingly lips. Nothing on fire that made you pant or required milk. My coworker got the Cool Ranch Crunch wrap and hers was dry... and needed a dipping sauce for moisture. She used leftover queso and it was much better. Food came out in waves. Many staff helping out at the table with both bringing food out and clearing used dishes, empty glasses/ bottles. And no errors in the order. Great to see teamwork. To-go boxes were given to those in need and they looked like recycled paper/cardboard vs Styrofoam. And paper bags were given to the people with more than 1 to-go box. I would definitely return to try more items on the menu.
