I visited for brunch on a Sunday. The food was okay but the place is dreary and unfriendly.

I came here with friends on a trip to Minneapolis and we had a blast! We came on a Wednesday night for Karaoke. There are many rooms inside of the Eagleboltbar and karaoke was hosted in a particular room in the back. I appreciate that because it was separate from the spaces that were more for drinking and chatting. The karaoke host was so nice, and had no problem with our group putting in multiple songs. The bartender was lovely and very accommodating. Staff was very sweet and it was all around good vibes! You can tell this is a traditional gay bar, frequented by gay men, but the atmosphere felt welcoming (during karaoke) to us queer women. read more

I'd give negative stars if I could. The owner had a car park so it blocked me into the parking lot and banged on my window berating me to "never park there again." I felt completely threatened as my car was literally stuck in its place until the other car was moved by his order. I was completely mixed up and parked in the wrong parking lot, I was in the wrong but I wish he would've just towed my car vs making me feel so scared and threatened. This is a gay mens bar. There are two different bars and a patio. The bartender at the first bar when you walk into will eventually serve a woman a drink. They do make it clear that they would prefer only men to be there. I have had the bartender walk up and down the bar twice begore serving me (a lesbian). The larger bar in the other room sometimes hosts events where anyone is welcome to attend. Women are expected to leave the minute the event ends. I walked through to coat check and a patron shouted to tell me that i didn't belong there. The bartender nodded but otherwise ignored the situation completely. I have never had an issue with the security personnel and have had a goid time at events on the patio but I would suggest gaving a man order the drink unless you want to wait a long time. read more

So I am visiting Minneapolis for the first time and I came across eagleBolt bar while trying to find LGBTQ spaces in the city. On Thursday, September 20, 2018 around 7pm I arrived excited to this establishment. Instead of being welcomed with open arms, I was greeted with unwelcomed stares from employees and customers who looked like they do not like Black people in their White LGBTQ spaces. The waiter was an older masculine and muscular White man who for close to 15 minutes refused to speak to me and only stared at me as if I were in the wrong place. Thank you so much for giving me the impression that this is not a safe space for LGBTQ people of color. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT. read more

Tried to go last night with a party of 3, walked by patio to entrance. Pretty quiet. New section of patio was empty with the exception of 2 out of 10 tables. Went to front door to check in with their new rules which I was aware of. Front door guy said they were full outside and could only be seated inside. Cover was $10 a person to get in. Ask about switching to outside table when one opened up. Guy at front door was rude AF with his answer. We had a few questions and then at end he was like 'anything else?' I decided for the group, we were not going to spend our money on this LGBTQ establishment along with the $30 cover. We left. They need a new front door guy. Have been there in the past and bartenders on dance floor side are rude as well! Good luck returning to business with that dude representing your front door! Told many people in the parking lot not to waste there money there! Please remove the Eagle name from EagleBolt, you do not represent Eagle bar across the world! 7-5-2020 Update: So I have described the doorman to a friend that goes to the EagleBolt all the time! To my surprise it was my super wholesome friend who recommended The Eagle for the great lunch specials.. Frankly speaking. not the first place that popped into my head for lunch and the last place I expected her to recommend.. I didn't come for lunch, but did come with the boys to unwind. What fun. Sure it's dark and a little seedy, but who cares. It's the company I was with that made it fun and the endless loop of crowd sing along music that people lose their shirts to. Literally... Second time I brought my husband out with the boys. Everyone was welcoming and could care less that we were together. The only thing that stood out was the bartender telling my husband that they didn't have a blender because it was too gay. That still makes me laugh to this day.. Good times! read more

(My first visit to a gay bar as a straight young woman) Recently, I was in Minneapolis for an evening and I was looking for somewhere close to my hotel to grab a drink. I walked across the street to see Crooked Pint and after walking in and seeing a huge crowd of people watching sports I walked right back out and rounded the corner to see eagleBOLT. I thought, "this looks like a good dive bar to grab a couple of drinks" it was only after I ordered my first drink that I fully took in my surroundings and realized I was in a gay bar. I'm not gay, but as a young woman alone in a new city I was comforted by the divey yet social, clean, and safe atmosphere. Luckily for me it was a Tuesday evening and they had draft beer specials and an American Horror Story viewing party! AHS is one of my favorites so I couldn't resist staying for another drink and to watch the show. The bartenders and crowd were quite friendly! read more

While killing time with my friend before we volunteered at the Mill City Opera we were looking for a drink. We passed the Eagle Bolt and noticed their happy hour special (3-4-1). We both laughed and said how good could a bar with that kind of deal be. It was hot outside and the bar we intended on going to just felt further and further away in the heat. We quickly turned around and went into the Eagle Bolt. Being new to the area, and not paying attention to my surroundings, we walked in and I did a quick double take. It was a pretty divey bar, but there were a lot of (clearly) gay gentlemen and pictures of guys on the wall. I turned to my friend and laughed because we had walked into a gay dive bar (my personal favorite kind of gay bar). I really liked the vibe of the bar. It was relaxed, clearly a place for regulars, and it had no sense of pretentiousness that a lot of other gay bars have. It was also clearly a place intended for gay men, and not "tourists" (people who want to ogle and visit gay culture because it is fun/different). At the same time I definitely felt what other reviewers have pointed out about being stared at, and not in a good way. We were dressed up a bit because we were going to usher at the Opera. People were giving us looks like we were radioactive. It also took the bartender quite some time to come up and take our drink orders. That being said once they realized we weren't tourists and we weren't the assholes in fancy clothes, they opened up a bit. The clientele here is definitely older and a bit more on the bear side. Personally I am ok with that because it means a relaxed and fun environment. They throw a lot of events and have special nights here. Between that and their crazy happy hour, I will probably be back soon. 99/100 read more

First and foremost, I have to throw this out there... when EVERY SINGLE ONLINE REVIEW says that this is a leather/daddy/bear/BDSM bar, why the fuck would you expect to go there in your H&M special and somehow not get stared at?? That's what the Saloon is for, go hang out with all your twink friends. This is just like the 19 bar, it's dive-y, priced well, and if you don't act like a jackass, you will enjoy yourself! The food is great, the drink specials are FANTASTIC, and if you can stand not looking at the TV's if penis' really bother you that much, it's my second favorite bar. Prep yourself for 'All You Can Swallow' on Sunday's, from 4-8PM it's $10 for all you can drink tap beer. I dunno about you, but the prospect of all you can drink beer for 4 hours is AMAZING. And it was, I went yesterday for the Easter bonnet parade, and had an absolute blast! Well it's hard not to have a blast when you can hardly remain seated on your stool ; - ) Get over yourself Minnesota, there are NO high class bars here in Minneapolis, only wanna-be-bars. Ohhhhh my Eagle. How much have we seen together? From Bear Night to illicit acts in the loo to the very weird man who placed his beer bottle somewhere it should not have gone, we really have been through a lot together. As the designated lady of my group of friends, if you know what I mean, I have had to wrangle a group of drunks after 3-4-1s and those drinks are STRONG. I have been knocked on my little hiney many a time and still managed to get everyone where they needed to be. There is also an endless supply of man meat on the slideshow and all those songs you don't like to admit you know all the words playing on the music video monitors. There's also an endless supply of man candy of every sort, which is nice for looking (since that's all I can do there in every sense of the phrase) and you never who you'll make friends with. Including the staff, who are mostly big sweethearts, if you can accept them, chaps and all. Surprisingly enough, their bar food is pretty decent. The chicken strips have gotten me out of more than one pickle in my day, and I actually had some last night even though I wasn't in dire need. And I finally saw someone noshing on a pizza- it looked pretty good. I will have to try it soon. read more

The thought of going to a gay bar isn't a big deal when you've lived in Hollywood. With that said, my friend (who is gay, I'm not - for those keeping score) told me that the Eagle was a leather and 'stache kind of bar which can be intimidating when you're dressed like you just got of work at a bank. However, couldn't have been further from what I imagined. Were there gay men in leathers? Yes. Show tunes blasting? Check. A handful of "Hey, how are you?" comments? You betcha and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Super friendly and attentive bartenders - waited maybe a couple of minutes for each drink max, great atmosphere and everyone just enjoying the scene. I had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to head out to the Eagle to hang with friends. The Eagle is The Eagle; You don't come here for manicured eyebrows and $12 martinis. It's dark and it's dirty and there are pictures of leather daddies w/ their c*cks out on the TV screens and the bartenders make super strong bottom shelf drinks. And that's why it's awesome. The Eagle is also pretty cool. Unlike some other reviewers, I've never experienced snotty guys there who look down on your for bringing in people who aren't gay. It's a local hangout with definite regulars (but what place isn't?? Just different clientele), and I've found that as long as my friends and I don't act like we own the place then everyone is free to have fun and especially enjoy the *super awesome patio area out back*. I have been going here for about 4 years. I was always scared to go until I "grew up". Trust me. ... You don't have to be 30 to go here. It is a nice place to meet new people. Younger and older. They have bear bar nights, leather night, costume night etc. Everyone is absolutely genuine and I enjoy the company of other nice people. Here is my story... 3 years ago on a Black Friday I asked a girlfriend of mine to go and visit this place for the holidays. We got there and was pretty crowded. We sat down at the bar and right away I noticed a beautiful man smiling talking to his friends. His smile blew me away and I said to my friend that ..."I am going to marry this man". Weird and awkward I know but his smile hit me harder than anyone I have even met. Never in the world would I ever walk up and talk to someone. I always wanted someone to walk up and talk to me... But this guy was different. I walked up to him and asked for his number on the cheesy "date" cards they let you write on at the bar. Fast forward ... 2 years later I met him and we are celebrating our 1 year anniversary in a week! This place is great for meeting great people! This was my first time in this bar. I have walked past it a 100 times at least and always wanted to go in. This place gets mad props for the bar tender who was wearing a disc world t-shirt. I had some grapefruit vodka in grapefruit juice and it was all very grapefruty fun! The bar was pretty empty so we just moseyed up to 3 empty stools. I don't know of any restaurant or bar who has done more to address the COVID 19 issue than this bar. They allow walk up reservations, take your name and number and then they escort you to a table. The tables outside are spaced far apart, inside they've added plexiglass dividers between the high tops and only allow a few clusters at the bar which is also encased in plexiglass. Touch less waster faucets in the bathroom touch less hand dryers, marked floors, separate entrance and exits for the patio. These guys have done a bang up job. My partner and I have gone there a few times for one of their burger baskets. The food is amazingly good bar food. And for a buck more you can get tater tots instead of fries, yum. We've gone weeknights which seems they do a brisk business but we've never had trouble getting seated. Weekends may be different hence the terse review recently posted. Hats off to the management and staff for reopening safely. You deserve an award. read more

Okay. So we admittedly only wandered into the eagleBoltbar on Super Bowl Sunday because it had the word "Eagle" in the name. We spent a few hours there and were treated exceptionally. The staff and the bartenders were awesome, friendly and poured great drinks. The menu was limited but everything we ate was excellent. This is my favorite MPLS gay bar, hands-down. Always my first choice for a night out with my man or by myself. The patio's great in summer, the videos are interesting, the music's fun, the guys are butch and cute, the bartenders are fun to stare at, and the variety of specials, events and themes is awesome. This is a bar that's generally clean and doesn't take itself too seriously. I never feel like I have to preen and dress all up for display like I would at the Saloon. My only caveat is that the Eagle isn't really the best choice for dancing. There's a little space in which you could and I've seen people dance a bit there before, but if you really are going out to dance, I'd pick a different bar. Some tips: Be careful - 3-4-1s are fun but can get a little dangerous. Show up on a Saturday after 10 but before 11 to get free parking on the street while still slipping in before cover. Saturdays are the fun theme nights in BOLT - Underwear on the first Saturday, Leather on the second, and Bear on the 4th. Dress up or just sit in the upstairs bar and enjoy the quality people-watching. The ATM fee isn't too high (like $1.25 or $1.50-ish) so I always just get some cash out there for the night. read more

I accompanied a gay friend who had recently come out to this bar for a night of bar-hopping. Upon entering, it looked like a small bar similar to Club Jager -but if you proceed towards the back, there is a separate room to the right with another bar, and a lovely patio in the back. Each specific area has a different atmosphere, which was nice. The clientele of course, were all men, who were a lot more rugged than I expected. The bartender was friendly and quick in serving up the drinks. We went to sit in the back in the patio which was my favorite part of the place. The other people in the back of the patio seemed nice enough, and there was a mellow vibe going on. The only weird thing that happened was when two guests came up from behind me and my friend, and circled around, asked us if they could sit with us, and then when I spoke up to answer them, they stifled a giggle and said nevermind and walked away to the next table. I was dressed down that day, not very girly, so maybe they thought I was a boy? But when I spoke up, it was obvious I was a girl. Whatever the reason for their little inside joke, I found it to be really rude and unnecessary. Doesn't matter if you're a boy, girl, gay or straight, there's no need to make fun of other people. Honestly, I don't know why all my straight female friends always rave about going to gay bars like it's the best thing in the world. Nothing that great here. read more

I love this spot! First time visit on a Saturday to get their $8 pitcher special and it did not disappoint!! My girlfriend and I, both straight, had the best time. Definitely full of testosterone but it was lovely and magical people watching. The staff and patrons were the friendliest bunch I have ever met. We were served promptly with friendly service and never were given the impression that women aren't welcomed there (in response to the review below about discrimination towards women). Yes, it is ALL men and they are more interested in each other then straight women but that's what we loved about it, being left alone lol. We had multiple patrons ask what we were drinking and multiple staff check on us. The service was on point. Super STIFF drinks, just the way I like em. Ironically, we went to Bolt Underground on the third Saturday of the month, so I am writing a review for ladies' night at the "masculine men's gay bar." Our lovely friend is moving to Portland, so we took her for a night out. Her place of choice: 501. After a few drinks and some sweet potato fries, we decided to do some dancing. The obvious choice? Bolt Underground, right next door (MN + February = quickest route possible). It was Booby Trap Girlz night and we had an absolute blast! The ladies at the door were so nice. The coat check guy let us check all four of our coats for $2 total (we gave a nice tip for that one!). The bartenders were quick with a nice, stiff drink. The crowd was fun and friendly. The bathrooms were clean and well-marked (I am looking at you, 501!). The dj was fantastic. She played a great mix of old school and current songs, all of which made you want to shake what your mama gave you. Speaking of moves, the Booby Trap Girlz were pretty spectacular. They are a modern burlesque group who dance on smaller stages on the floor and also on the pole on the main stage. I wish I had their moves! Holy smokes, those girls are athletic! $5 cover, which was a pretty great value for the amount of fun we had. read more

Ooph. Stay away weekends when it's any other gay club in Anywhere, USA. I came back because a friend told me some punk rock dudes hung out here at times a while back and I dig some punk rock so if nothing else I might end up hanging out with some quality people. Maybe it was an off night the night I went: I did go on a weekday after all. If there were queer punks there that night they must have been posers cuz all I saw were guys in stereotypical gay garb: tight t-shirts or polos sometimes with a deep V, faux hawks (those things still haven't died yet?), fake tans, and every other mainstream gay (male) fashion trend was present. As an individual whose ethics by and large veer anti-mainstream be it in a straight or GLBT (read middle-upper class white young gay male professional) context this was pretty much the opposite of what I was expecting. Should've known better and should just accept there is no such thing as a non-mainstream GLBT bar/club, let alone anti-mainstream GLBT bar/club: the gay mainstream somehow has total control over every and any gay bar that opens and will never debut an establishment that caters to the likes of us, let alone accommodate non-mainstream types: we need straight people to do that for us (ironic, huh?). And sadly, nothing close to punk rock played, instead it was your typical bad generic thumping dance beats passing for music and there are Beyonce, et al music videos playing on the walls with a disco ball and rainbow themed lights, The side I thought was the regular bar is actually the one that becomes the leather-only side on weekends: I thought I read/heard that it was downstairs on the other end of that bar or something. Whoops. The leather side at least didn't have the music videos and bright colors that everyone else has to experience, but the music was the same and it didn't take long for the decision as to which side I was supposed to go to was made for me. Not missing out on much over there: leather didn't make the crowd any more attractive or younger but hey, whatever works for them. I wouldn't get it regardless of sexual orientation. Are there straight leather bar/clubs? Cuz I haven't seen any. At least there wasn't a cover (Cover? At a leather bar? That's the last thing they want guys to do, yuk yuk!), but it was a bit of a pain having the bartender come around and tell me after I bought my PBR, for $4.50 mind you, that I had to wade back through the crowd and check in my messenger bag. A lot of hassle with a hefty price tag to be somewhere I don't want to be. So weekends are a definite no-go (minus one star),so it's best to go here on a weeknight if you're looking for a more chill bar experience, but even then it's not my scene. I soon left and had a much better time hanging out with my straight friends, including the one who steered me wrong, but hey, I got a Yelp rant out of it. read more

Everyone should go at least once to experience it. I mean lets be honnest, its a dump. The clientele is ALWAYS the same. Dirty guys who never step foot in a bar that doesn't have a rainbow on it and are there every weekend. If you are wearing anything somewhat nice.... you will get glared at. If you bring girls or a group of people that aren't gay.... you will get glared at. I understand that appeal of this bar for guys who are looking to hook up and want somewhere to go drink that they can be doing whatever they want to whomever they want on the back patio or in a dark corner. I really do. But if that is not your thing, then I would say you are better off not going. There really is nothing overlly appealing to this bar that makes it somewhere you have to go. The 3-4-1's on Fridays are rail liquor or cheap beer. read more
