Iconic Gay 90's Sign adores the front entrance

FUN DRAG SHOW! The performers were beautiful and kept the show exciting. We came in at about 10pm on a Saturday night and had a blast! There are so many different rooms and multiple bar areas to explore. There are even three different dance floors, some with cages for you to dance inside of. Drinks are expensive, small and mostly ice. So I only had one. But my server was super nice and had these huge muscles so I didn't mind too much. Decor looks like it hasn't been updated since the 90's but if it keeps the entrance fee lower, it's good enough for me. On Saturday, entrance fees were: $10 for 21+ $20 for 18-20 year olds Pro Tips: 1. Bring CASH. They do take credit cards, but the entry can be so much faster if you pay with cash . It's also nice if you have $1 bills to tip the performers. At the entrance, stay in the far right lane with cash in hand if you want to get in quickly. 2. Park in a ramp/lot, not on the street. Many of the nearby street parking spots become no parking zones at midnight. But that's when the party is starting to get good, so just park in the ramp. C Ramp is just 2 blocks away. If you're looking for some weekend fun, give this place a try.

Went there for the weekend to see The Weeknd. Friday night we decided to try this place out and ended up partying there for the rest of the night. So many different rooms with great music. Perfect vibes. Just make sure to wear some clothes that might get wet

My best friend and I stumbled upon this place when we were debating on how to spend our night out in Minneapolis. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. When we got inside, we saw how it moved so quickly. The place is huge. Soon as we came in you're at the bar and a dance area. But we also peeped the flow of traffic migrating upstairs. So we followed the flow of traffic upstairs. That's where we found the drag show. Honey it was wonderful!!!!! We were treated to veteran artists who'd performed all over the country and on RuPaul's Drag Race and we even saw the newbies that were just starting out. It was a real treat! When I'm in the area, I will be back!! This place comes highly recommended.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! My friends and I go here every now and them, sadly not as much as we should. Our friend Rosie Bottoms performs and when she does I am down to go and support her! Now that I said that, people are probably going to think that is why I gave it a 5, but honestly that isn't the reason, that is an extra bonus! This place is legendary! Seriously, my mom told me once she used to come here when she was younger. If you knew my mom, you would know that means it's been around a long time! It is a staple in the Community, and a tourist place for people from all over! It is very welcoming, and fun! There are multiple rooms inside and if you don't want to be in one go to another. There is a Retro Room, the Main Stage for ladies of La Femme. There is the downstairs stage, and a karaoke type room where they do host karaoke. There is another room where foam parties do happen. I know there are probably many more rooms that I don't know about, but either way I love this place! The place is always entertaining to me. I love people watching, definitely the best place. I really would recommend this place to people. It is very open, friendly, and welcoming to everyone. Don't be so quick to judge others when they are welcoming of you.

Been here twice now, both times within the past month. The drag shows are extremely upbeat and energetic, very entertaining. The bartender is always very busy and still somehow manages to be speedy quick to make everyone's drinks! super friendly staff and all around a positive atmosphere. Love the Gay 90's

I bring most of my out-of-town friends to Gay 90s because I befriend people who like fun. There are like 6 different bars within this 1 bar. One time a brought a few of my pals here and we had such a hoot, that they thought we were bar hopping all night but I was like "no, sweet angels, you were just at Gay 90s all dang night." There's versatile dance floors, a room with a huge animatronic penis, a few stages, a big drag stage, photo booths, several floors where you can have a gay ol' time. Foam parties, drag shows, underwear parties, you name it! I mostly come for their drag shows, which are every Thursday - Sunday from 10pm to close. Incredible talent and lineup! I stay for the dancing while not getting hit on by meathead dudes. Usually $5 cover if you're 21+. I think it's $15 if you're 18+. Speaking of which, 18+ nights (third weekend of the month) are nightmare nights with long lines of large human babies. And the bathrooms are terrible. But it's all really worth it.

Had an amazing time at the gay 90's. Halloween especially. Though for Minnesota being one of the kindest states in the US there sure wasn't many kind people.

What a dump. Ya know, back in the day the 90s had a vibe. It was creepy and skanky and cool...but it was a dump. So then, they started male stripper nights. Only, the male strippers were straight. So all of the straight women (bachelorette, wedding, and even baby parties) came...and where the drunk, horny, straight women went, so did the straight males. And overnight, the 90s became a straight bar, where people came to ogle at the drag queens. Fine and dandy. The bar has done little to innovate or change, and it's the same dinginess that has pervaded the 90s until today. The only thing they've done is added yellow-shirted security with headsets, like at Target or Walmart. The place still attracts the same level of trash--especially at night--so that's that, but you would think even for a straight bar that features a drag show, there would be some level of graciousness. Not so. This place is a sad trash dump of broken people and crappy stage shows. There's nothing to see here, and when I went to grab a drink and a show, I ended up sobbing in my (watered down) drink...there was just nothing enticing about this crapfest except the proximity to the light rail to take me home. [Well, I can't drive after a few, so don't judge.] Just avoid at all costs. Worst part: the "security" who really do have to put up with straight-up trash that wanders in there...but doesn't know the difference between a veteran of that bar and garbage. Too much manpower for a place that has less than 20 patrons.

Ask the Community - Gay 90's

Can 18 year olds come in if they are just you DD for the night?

Only on 18+ nights and cover charge is still $20

    Do they hold your coats?

Yes they do have an area where you can check your coat in, if I'm correct it was $5.

What the dress code ? Can can we wear like casual jeans tee and nikes

    Yes

Do I need to bring an ID to get in? I mean if they scan ID at their door?

Yes, they check IDs even before you get inside.

Do they allow those under 21 but over 18?

Yes, they do! The cover charge is more expensive for those who are 18-20 though!

Do the Gay 90’s accept yellow papers if my drivers license has been lost?

Not sure. I would presume they would need a photo I.D. of some sort......so if you had maybe a school I.D. or a work I.D. with a picture *plus* your yellow papers, maybe that's enough. I'd call first and ask a manager before wasting a trip, though.

    How is the trangender crowd?

Probably more trans people here than any other club in town. Some of the Queens in the drag show are trans. If you are trans, you will certainly feel welcome.

Great place to go for a drag brunch…read more I've stopped in here for a snack or a drink or two before, but this is the first time I went for a drag brunch. The tickets were cheaper than most places around, the comedy by the host is better, and the dancers were excellent. The drag show area is excellently done with professional lighting, full sound system, and dedicated bar. I can't comment on the food after this visit. I just got the ultimate Bloody Mary, which came with a mini-donut, chicken wings, bacon, celery, and more so it was basically a meal on its own! It was great, well mixed toppings were delicious, and it came with a chaser (the champagne of beers) All in all a great place to come to for a few drinks or a drag brunch!

If you are meeting a large group for casual drinks, this is a great place. However, we went for brunch (wanting food) and were very disappointed. We wandered in, sat down and then waited. There was no indication that you order everything at the bar. I had to go up and ask to get this info and menus. Our cocktails were fine, but my tater tot egg dish had 3 tatter tots and I was still hungry after. The sausage patties were literally inedible- you could not cut them with your fork. The breakfast burrito came out well, so that item seems safe. I ordered mozzarella sticks after (because I was still hungry), and they were ok, but had a very heavy breading shell. Overall, great ambiance, but I can not recommend going for food.

There were a bunch of different rooms, which all had different music playing. Didn't explore that much. Mostly just out on the patio and on the dance floor, but I saw pool and other bar games. There was also a photo booth, which we used. Overpriced, but I guess you have to expect that from photo booths. Drinks were so cheap ($4)! And good dance music from the DJ. Biggest complaint is that there is only one stall in the bathroom (the rest are urinals). So it was always busy because obviously there are a lot of people who are trying to use the stall. Had to plan your pees.

Had my first experience at The Saloon for Twin Cities Leather Weekend early November!…read more The thing that struck me most is the impressive square footage of the place. It essentially has four-ish connected but separate "chambers." You come in on the corner into the first one which has a typical bar set-up with lots of bar stools to sit at. Further back there's more table-and-chair style seating because it's nearby their kitchen where they serve hot food; there's also a pool table and darts throwing in this section. Deeper in there's a couple more bars in smaller segmented dual rooms, which is nearby the main restroom (there are several, at least three restroom locations inside). Quite a lot of urinals in this establishment, but a lack of stalls to sit and do your business, which was a little frustrating for someone like me whose equipment requires sitting to pee. No gender segregation though, which I'd expect in this day and age of a queer bar, but still nice to see. The final room is by far the largest, as it has a bar but also a large open area like a dance hall and stage. For this particular weekend it was utilized for hosting the contest, but also a puppy mosh (iykyk). Even as big as it was, it was PACKED during the contest portion of the weekend, making it difficult to see or hear the contest. (I think they could use a more up to date sound system.) We got food while we were there, and it was great. I got a BLT for just $9 and it was piled high with bacon- they did not skimp. Eating it all was a challenge for li'l ol' me. Meals come with ruffled chips that are very salty, but you can upgrade to other side options like french fries, onion rings (which my husband did), etc. for $2. The food was honestly affordable, especially for the amount they give you; I think they do this to discourage you from leaving the bar to go somewhere else for food, which is a solid strategy, haha. Parking around here is... tough, as you might expect in downtown. There is a nearby garage though just across the street behind the bar that I think is just $5 for evenings? I'm sure I'll be back for future events. I myself am not a casual bar-goer, so I don't really go out to these types of establishments unless they're hosting something fun. Always nice when a place is a community gathering space in addition to their regular business. I appreciate this place exists and serves the queer/kink community in that way.
