Sitting on the rooftop before the game and having a few beers was a great choice it was a fun spot to relax and get ready for the event. The biggest downside was the service. It was very slow, and we waited 20-30 minutes for new beers, which took away from the experience. With a place this large and busy, faster service would make a big difference. CJs is a great spot to meet up with a group or run into people you know. They usually have drink specials, live music or djs. As for food, I always get the dry rub wings. They are fantastic. The people rating this place low just can't understand fun! I was a little skeptical at first when I found it in my pre-trip research but quickly realized how Nashville-y it is. Seems to be a must-visit for out of towners wanting to experience Minneapolis nightlife! Its Nashville elements include several floors (including open-air rooftop), live music, and large dance floor for line dancing - which likely occurs on a different day during the week. I almost didn't come here based on many people's reviews, but so glad that I did! I loved the vibe here, reminded me a lot of Texas. It has 3 floors (well, 2 and a rooftop). For food, I got a burger and my husband got wings. On Twins home game day they do a bucket of wings for $10! We also got the cowboy queso. My burger was delicious, bacon, cheese and a bbq sauce. The sauce is what made it! I liked dipping my fries into the cowboy queso. The queso could've used a little spice, but overall it was all pretty good! This bar is a great pre-game spot. They hosted the Twin Cities I-Club for the big ten tournament and did a great job! The service was exceptional, food was great and plenty of drinks to go around. Thank you for hosting a bunch of crazy Hawkeye fans for three days in a row! It is also great that there is plenty of space her for large amounts of people so a pre game crowd is no match for this place. "Come to Cowboy Jack's tonight - I'm working there!" - a teammate shouted at us as we all parted ways after a long day on our feet, smiling and looking purdy. I didn't intend to visit. I'm grateful to whoever decided on the name for making the theme and therefore the overall music genre very clear to all potential clientele, shouting as clearly as my friend above, "Don't visit me, I'm not your scene!" But my teammate had left bottles of liquor with me and I needed to hand them off, so a visit to Cowboy Jack's it was. Asked if I wanted to check it out, I figured I might as well. I held little hope of being wowed: There would have been throbs of bass pumping through the walls - of essentially any genre but country or gospel - by time I approached if it had any chance of winning me over, but I'm always game to at least know a place and see if I can be swayed by some other charming element. I wasn't. The ground floor houses a restaurant, complete with classic dining booths and a bar taking up a full wall. A wide staircase leads to a small stage on the second floor, where a country concert was going. Another run up the stairs takes you to the rooftop patio and bar - and entitled white guys who thought that I, as an "exotic" Asian woman, was automatically an escort there for their private entertainment. I was in a tank top, pants, and sneakers - nothing about my manner of dress screamed for attention. Dancing is my only drug, so I go out a lot, and I've become quite used to politely but firmly dealing with guys approaching me in hopes of my attention - many are even impressed with my manner in handling their request for my attention and have left the interaction with a smile, even a handshake, in feeling respected though still clearly rejected. Being called over as though I was a call girl, that's new. I've been catcalled - I didn't walk a block that night without being hooted at. The level of entitlement in this was on a whole nother level. I stopped and looked at them expectantly, waiting for even one of the three to say something with enough brains to match the balls of stopping me in my tracks in hopes of an iota of validation from me. They choked. I walked away - hoping that people who don't understand basic respect would comprehend communication regarding their crude behavior is not how I spend my time. Safe to say, I'm not exactly impressed with the clientele at this establishment. Not my scene to begin with, but I wouldn't have known the extent to which it wasn't my scene had I not visited. Why would that affect my rating? From the looks of multiple Yelp reviews denouncing the consistently-appalling manner in which female guests are treated at this venue - including how management handled female assault victims - entitled boys do get a pass here that they wouldn't elsewhere, which would explain why I've never run into this level of douchebaggery anywhere until the night I dropped by Cowboy Jack's. On that note, thank you for the amusing realization that I've never had that word enter my vocabulary whether in speaking, reading, active listening, or writing until today. Women aren't safe here. Women have been roofied here, and there are no cameras by the bar, so take that warning with care. If you're not out with a friend, stay alert, or go elsewhere. Also, 1. Foreign passports: Not acceptable ID. Out-of-state IDs also an issue, even after police verify authenticity. Solution: Hire security and bartenders who know how to spot an actual fake ID. Not that hard - I was a bartender for years. 2. "Racial profiling," as security bluntly stated. A non-white guy will be denied entry for the same clothing that white guys walk in wearing. Non-white patrons with complaints get brushed off. 3. When guests are over-served, bartenders aren't doing their job. 4. The fact that multiple guests have reported wallets stolen with cards used directly afterwards on hefty Cowboy Jack's tabs begs the question of how the bartenders managed to match these credit cards to the thieves' ID cards. 5. The bouncers need anger management therapy, not a job that allows them to physically remove female guests by their hair, tackle and kick guests, or beat severely-drunken guests bloody while the entire queue watches - how everyone still stayed in line to get into this place, I have no idea. Again, their insane BAC (blood alcohol concentration) level is cause for a chat between Jack's and Jack's bartenders, not an excuse for bouncers manhandling out bottled rage. 6. I wouldn't be surprised if the last point fell on deaf ears, since Jack's management is known to be bullies themselves who ignore general complaints and the violence perpetrated by venue staff anyhow. _____ Chris Diebo, as the owner of After Night Group, which owns Cowboy Jack's, what exactly are you doing as the owner of this place beyond collecting your cut of the alcohol sales from your many venues and possibly planning your next expansion or grand opening? read more

The wings did not come out in a bucket because you didn't need a bucket but rather just a tiny plate. I got six McDonalds sized nuggets of chicken on that plate. That is some expensive, teeny pieces of chicken. They were not great either, very basic and not worth $12. Cowboy Jack's... how do I describe thee? This place is popular during summer for their fantastic rooftop. I would recommend checking it out. The bartenders in my experience have been less than steller. I've been at the bar waiting to get a drink for 10 minutes and watch the bartenders serve everyone else around me until I say something out loud. I did come here once for dinner before heading over the Timberwolves game. They had a great happy hour and game night specials. One of their game night specials is a bucket of wings for $7. Their regular wing options were 7-12 pieces at kind of a steep cost so we figured that the wings would maybe 10 pieces so we ordered one bucket each. Y'all forreal one bucket had at least 18 wings in it. We were in a wing trance just eating wing after wing and it never seemed to end... later the waitress told us it was 1.5 lbs in EACH bucket. We both pretty much ate a ton of wings but not even enough to see the bottom. The wings were also unfortunately subpar... but a fantastic deal to share with multiple, multiple friends. I've been visiting cowboy jacks since I moved to the cities. It is truly always a crowd favorite because of how big it is and the many different items that can be done. For example, you want to eat some wings and watch the game? You can do that. You want to play darts or big buck hunter? You can do that. You want to dance at a Taylor swift dance party? You can do that. Their drinks have always been the perfect strength for me as well. I wish that I wasn't consistently disappointed in this location because it has the potential to be so enjoyable. I really enjoy Cowboy Jack's overall but have had multiple unpleasant experiences at the one on 5th. Last night we waited in line for 45 minutes and never got in the door. Normally I don't mind waiting to get into a bar but they don't manage the line at all. People consistently walked right into a big group of people near the door so the line never really moved. They just kept letting people in who cut the line. They know there will be a line on weekends so a temporary fence would go a long way. While we were waiting in the line there was an individual who came out of Cowboy Jacks that was beyond over served. He could barely sit up or communicate. My friends and I helped to lift him up and walk him to the side of the building where he could sit on the ground out of the rain. They served him 23 shots of fireball. We returned to our spot in line but kept an eye on him. Good thing we did because the bouncers decided to start throwing him around like a rag doll for being too close to the door. He couldn't defend himself. He was bleeding. We had to run over to stop them. This isn't my first issue with the bouncers at this location. They are consistently rude, unprofessional, and scary. I don't feel safe at this location. Don't get me wrong, I've had some normal nights here and awesome experiences at other locations but Cowboy Jack's on 5th is like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Once you're in the bar, the experience CAN be great (dancing, music, food, crowd, etc) but we were so put off before we even got inside.
