I wouldn't put it as one of my favorites as far as smash burgers goes but it had me feeling satisfied and full when leaving. Prepare for a mess if you order one - gooey saucey and greasy! The bun on the bottom will be soaked in all things involved. The fires are 10/10 Prosciutto and chips really surprised me - I've never had this combo and loved it! Gnocchi had wild flavors making you come back for more Peppers were a solid appetizer worth trying. Not spicy! Good speak easy vibes, good cocktail options. What a great little spot! And when I say little, I mean it's a tiny restaurant, located on the ground floor of an apartment building. But they cram people into this space and certainly make it work. Great service, very friendly and knowledgeable on their menu and drinks. They have a full bar, and a small wine selection. But the food was what it was all about! The burger and fries were amazing! We also shared some brussel sprouts and they were delicious! The oxtail poutine was rich and savory, made with gnocchi instead of fries and it was a fantastic twist to poutine. We had such a nice dinner on the patio at Gus Gus. The beautiful weather definitely helped make this a great visit to a very cozy neighborhood restaurant. We tried a wide variety of their apps and shareable plates which covered a wide variety of culinary ideas, all of which were well executed. The grilled prawns, Brussels sprouts, and scallops were all lovely for the summery atmosphere. They also have some fun quirky items, like jello shots and corn nuts! Went to GusGus for dinner tonight with my husband. It was our first visit, and we both left really impressed. The space is small, dimly lit, and has a cozy, intimate vibe. Service was excellent from start to finish. I started with the Birds Aren't Real cocktail, which was strong in the best way and really well-balanced. My husband ordered the Old Fashioned and noted he was pleasantly surprised by the size and enjoyed it overall. For appetizers, we chose the Beef Tartare and the Grilled Prawns. Both were standouts. My husband normally doesn't care for tartare, but even he liked this one -- packed with flavor and served on incredibly good bread. The prawns ended up being our favorite dish of the night. They were perfectly grilled and paired with a Malta sauce that was absolutely fantastic. For my entrée, I ordered the Scallops with Lemon Risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but the risotto leaned a bit too lemon-forward and slightly overpowered the dish. Still, I enjoyed it. My husband went with the Rib-Eye and Brussels Sprouts. The steak had great seasoning but was a little tough. The Brussels sprouts, on the other hand, were outstanding -- full of flavor with a mix of mild heat, tanginess, and saltiness. The fish sauce added a really nice depth. Overall, we both felt the appetizers and sides stole the show, but the entrées were still very good. We wrapped up dinner with the When Doves Cry cocktail, which we both loved -- even more than our first drinks. We'll definitely be back. Next time we're eyeing the Taleggio Hand Pie, the Mussels, and I'll probably give the Gnocchi a try as well. GusGus is absolutely worth returning to. read more

Lovely ambiance, perfect for a romantic date and great conversation. As much as I enjoyed the candlelit table, the food also was just as amazing. Quickly became one of my wife's favorite restaurants! Every single thing we've tried here has been unique and top notch. We tried it out for the first time a couple months ago and we came back again, which we hardly ever do since we like to try new restaurants. Service has always been super friendly and prompt, they're great at giving recommendations and a rundown of the menu. The place is a little smaller and can get quite loud when busy, but we were always able to hold a conversation just fine. Would be fun to try and do bar seating next time we're there. We came for our anniversary a few years ago and had an absolutely delightful experience. The restaurant is on the bottom of an apartment building and has this charm that reminded me of New York. The food was fantastic. We tried the poutine with oxtail - it was a very heavy dish. I had pan seared halibut for my main dish and it was delicious. The servers were kind and attentive. GusGus has been on my list for sometime now and it lived up the hype I was hearing. It's a small cozy spot that seriously feels like you're having dinner at your best friend's house. The lighting was dim and my friend and I were literally cracking up because she couldn't read the menu without her phone flashlight on full blast, haha! The decor is super cute. The menu has a variety of options, but we both had our hearts set on the burger. Hands down one of the best burgers I've had since Saint Dinette. SO cheesy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The french fries were cooked to perfection: crispy, salty, and completely addictive. I really wanted to take down my entire burger and fries because it was so scrumptious but I had to tap out halfway and take the rest to go as I was too full. I'm a huge chocolate lover and kept seeing the chocolate cake coming out to tables (it's like I was being tested or something, lol), so I just had to get a slice to go. I'm happy to report no regrets with my decision, but I was bummed my to go slice was noticeably smaller than the ones coming out in the restaurant. Service was fair, nothing bad, nothing standout. We got the chips with creme fraiche and speck.. these were just the perfect app! The chips were house made and nice and light with the creme fraiche and getting a little piece of speck as like getting a lil slice of heaven and it nice and salty.. enjoyable! We also got one of the salads (I cannot remember which) but it was good and fresh and a perfect addition to our meal. We also got the shrimp.. ok, this was amazing! The shrimp were huge, in shell and the lil sauce that was served with it was chefs kiss! We got the burger... ok... great great burger. The meat was cooked to perfection, the only problem is that the bun was too much, we actually needed to take some of it off because it over powered the actual burger. We got the scallops as well but ended up sending those back because they were salty. She took them back and did not charge us so that made sense. We also got the chimichurri steak.. oh lalala! The steak was sliced to perfection, it was a great cut, cooked perfectly and the chimichurri was just so good and fresh and light. I'm surprised I haven't written a review as I've been here quite a few times and tried a lot of their menu at different points throughout the year. The service is always excellent and tentative. It is a small but cute spot, but doesn't feel crowded. Just very intimate. The drinks are always so well prepared. It's insane how well they balance all the flavors. Everything on the menu is pretty breathtaking to be honest. On this last occasion, we had some gnocchi that is out of this world. But I've never had a single bad thing on their menu. We found Gus Gus while searching for a cool, intimate place for dinner, and it did not disappoint. After reading the reviews of others, we knew we had to try. The setting is very intimate, the dinning areas are small with low ceilings. Many commented on the level of noise in the restaurant, and that's true, but for us it just added to the excitement of our visit to see how happy everyone was to be there enjoying themselves. We started with the housemade chips topped with creme fraiche, and we added the caviar. Homerun for sure. Do not sleep on the chips. Well worth it and a perfect snack while you wait for your entrees. We also tried the NY strip and the mussels. My wife and I both agreed that the mussels were the best we have ever eaten, and we have tried them about everywhere. Our server was very friendly and offered nice drink suggestions. It's a compact setting, but they were very quick to clear the tables as you went to make it all manageable and enjoyable. It was fancy then and it's fancy now, the inside is so eclectic with teal walls with black donkey prints and gold or brass accents. It was very chic but a little dark for photos. We were sat near the corner and had a very nice waitress who gave us recommendations. It was my groups first time going to the restaurant and we were celebrating a birthday. I had the double cheeseburger with grilled onions and cheese and it was fantastic. Easily one of my top five burgers in the twin cities it was just melting in my mouth and was so savory and perfect somehow. The girls got the gnocchi dish with butternut squash and they didn't love it as much because there was too much mascarpone which was similar to sour cream, they did like gnocchi it was perfection. The fried gnocchi poutine for our appetizer to split was phenomenal it had oxtail that was so savory. The poutine was so filling and the fried gnocchi was chefs kiss. My other friend had the scallops and said the lemon risotto was amazing. No complementary desert was offered but that's okay we went to cafe latte after for cheesecake slices! Seemed like a missed opportunity to promote desserts from the menu. A perfect night, I nightly recommend the burger. Another top burger is Parlour Bar in Saint Paul with egg and bacon on top. Had an amazing weeknight dinner here. Boy were they busy on a Wednesday night! Definitely recommend making a reservation. We ordered a conglomeration of small shared plates and this was definitely the way to go! The star of the meal was definitely the grilled prawns with chef made Malta sauce. Wow- I could drink it up. Fantastic flavor and prawns were perfectly cooked. The tuna carpaccio was a great starter with a hint of spice! Loved the oxtail poutine. Five stars, you beautiful thing! I've loved you since you were Stewart's. This place is always packed. Make reservations. There's usually one space left at the bar. It's such a unique space in the lower level of a basic apartment building across from STU. Great happy hour, friendly staff, and adorable. They serve the #2 burger in the cities, which is an amazing ranking. It has everything you want in a smash burger: pickles, rich and gooey American cheese, amazing caramelized onions that give it such a smoky taste, somewhat reminiscent of the whitier of the castles, according to some palates. I don't even mind the brioche bun. Generally I think a brioche bun is too sweet with a cheese burger, but it compliments this one bc of the onions. ITs incredibly Tasty, bite after bite. While the food was amazing it was the conversation from the bartender that made this an extraordinary meal. About the food! Aaaaaaamazing. We went for the Cheeseburger and Breakfast Sandwich. The Cheeseburger is recognized in the burger community of the twin cities as one of the best. I can confirm, this is a top tier burger. One that I would recommend to anybody. Breakfast sandwich is as also delicious and the breakfast potatoes are hands down some of the best I've ever had. Surprisingly the Bloody Mary isn't a house made mix but they do use Lovejoys so there is zero complaints here. Bottom line, do not sleep on GusGus. This place is special. read more
