I'd been wanting to check this place out for a long time and was excited to find an open reservation on a Saturday evening! It's a quaint old home with just a handful of tables and very cozy with great classic decor. Our server was wonderful, kind and knowledgeable. The menu is unique and limited. Our server recommended the Beef tartar and Lengua = cow tongue!! I wasn't brave enough to try either. We shared the Brussels sprouts and French friends for appetizers - both good! I ordered the scallops for dinner, they were just okay. Maybe I should have taken the servers recommendations? My husband ordered the ribeye and it was DELICIOUS - packed with flavor. My son ordered the cheeseburger and said it was the best one he'd ever eaten! (And he's had a LOT of burgers) He said it just melts in your mouth. My youngest son asked if they had a kids menu. Our server listed off what they could make for him and he was thrilled to hear chicken tenders on that list! He ate every bite. There was street parking all around and the Univesity of st Thomas is across the street so you could wander around before of after dinner to see the campus! Great night out! Though we brought our boys, this would be perfect date night spot.
Really delicious food here. Feels upscale and sophisticated. Came with a group of 4 and sat outside on a very hot and sticky day. Waitress was able to match energy with everyone at the table, even my dad and his dad jokes, which is always a plus! Every dish was so delicious with well balanced delicate flavors and tender high quality ingredients. I got the poutine and it was out of this world. Yum. My favorite was the gnocchi though, the creamy sauce and lemon mascarpone were immaculate with the pillowy gnocchi and mushrooms/asparagus! The sea bass was also quite good, really enjoyed the white bean ragu. The piña colada sorbet was light and refreshing after the poutine and I lived the toasted coconut bed it was sitting on. I'm not a rhubarb girl, but everyone else said that pie was amazing too. Will definitely return!!!
We are new to St. Paul and this place will be tough to beat! We shared the hand pie to start. The pastry had perfect crisp flaky texture and the savory and salty mix of the cheese and demi glaze were delectable. Next we had mussels which were also amazing. The white wine broth was seasoned beautifully and soaking it up with the accompanying crusty bread was divine. For our main we shared the gnocchi with mushrooms and asparagus. The sauce was the perfect mix of creamy, lemony, and salty. The textures and tastes were simply perfect. We didn't save room for dessert but got the piña colada sorbet anyway. The sorbet was delicious but the toasted coconut is what made the dish our fourth 10/10. The service was kind, quick, and courteous. The ambience was close and talkative but cute. There were also some nice seats on the patio which were quieter and also very cute. We will be back. Often.
Had a great time at GusGus! The inside is a cool vibe, can definitely get loud in there but overall great atmosphere. They also have patio seating. Service was a little slow but everyone was so kind and I was catching up with a friend so it didn't bother us. Just something to keep in mind if you're on a time crunch. The food.. so good! This is one where I'll say the Cheeseburger hype is 1000% valid. It's so good. Highly recommend! I also got the Pink Moon cocktail to drink and would get it again. Delicious drink!
Made a reservation for a birthday and waited a while before we were seated. Ordered mussels, brussel sprouts, lengua sliders and sea bass. Felt everything was not bad but on the salty side. My favorite dish is probably the brussel sprouts. We also ordered two cocktail drinks, I liked the pink moon. It was a small space and the tables were pretty close to each other. We also did the jello shots, but they were just ok.
GusGus is a staple in St.Paul! I try to come here often as I can because the food is just amazing. We ordered the Tuna crudo and beef tartare to start off. The tartare had so much flavor to it. It had a nice mussel aoilo that really brought it together. The crudo was great as well. Had a little spice to it but felt fresh to eat. Entree: we ordered the double cheeseburger and Poutine. Have no words to describe how amazing it was and I've tried burgers all over the twin cities. The patty was cooked medium/medium rare, with carmelized onions, pickles and mustard aioli. Every bite was so delicious and flavorful, how a burger should be. The poutine was also amazing! The cheese, gnocchi and ox tail was such a wonderful and unique combo. Dessert: we ordered the dark chocolate mousse cake. It was topped with whip cream and had a piece of chocolate on top. It was amazing! Chocolate wasn't too overly powering and the whip cream balanced it out. The service was great! Checked in how we were doing and asked if there was anything needed. We were seated at the bar, which was a little spacious, but could be cramped if there are others around. The ambience there was good! It is dim but still has enough light to look at the menu. Parking can be tough as well, but honestly the food makes up for it! I would highly recommend GusGus to anyone!
Happy hour at Gus Gus is LIT! I didn't take the best pictures because looking around I was the only jerk off taking pictures of my food so the aesthetic isn't there but let me tell you! Everything on the menu sounded so good that we had to try a little bit of everything. CHIPS speck, créme fraiche & smoked salt & caviar FRIES bagna cauda aioli CHILI CHEESE FRIES BRUSSELS SPROUTS fish sauce vinaigrette, peanuts & pickled peppers THE CHEESEBURGER caramelized onion, mustard aioli w/fries LENGUA SLIDERS pepperoncini, provolone & demi SHISHITO PEPPERS Cotija cream sauce Everything tasted delicious we were all very impressed with the menu. Our favorite happy hour items were the lengua sliders, so tender and flavorful on a buttery crispy brioche bun and I personally loved the Brussels sprouts - they were packed with flavor. The burger *smothered in onions* was also very good. The fries were also great along with the chili cheese fries but if I were to order again I'd skip the regular fries and would order the chili cheese fries with the aoli because that combo was fantastic. Our friends ordered the fish entree and the prawns, both were ranting and raving about the sauces and the flavors of their dishes. Our waitress was fabulous - she was bubbly and friendly and service overall was really fast considering how busy they were.
Magical experience. Be prepared to be blown away by the food at GusGus. This is truly one of the best restaurants in Minnesota. I say this as someone who can be hard on the food here. GusGus does not disappoint. It's an intimate space where you feel like you're in the mix of things. The service was good. They have NA bubbly as well as drinks. We ordered a few items - the tartar to start, followed by the ribeye, then the burger, and the rhubarb crème brûlée pie. 10/10. Really delicious. I will be back and bringing my guests.
What a great little spot! And when I say little, I mean it's a tiny restaurant, located on the ground floor of an apartment building. But they cram people into this space and certainly make it work. Great service, very friendly and knowledgeable on their menu and drinks. They have a full bar, and a small wine selection. But the food was what it was all about! The burger and fries were amazing! We also shared some brussel sprouts and they were delicious! The oxtail poutine was rich and savory, made with gnocchi instead of fries and it was a fantastic twist to poutine. Make a reservation if you want to guarantee a seat, otherwise you may be waiting for a table. But if you do have to wait, it's worth it all the way!
We had such a nice dinner on the patio at Gus Gus. The beautiful weather definitely helped make this a great visit to a very cozy neighborhood restaurant. We tried a wide variety of their apps and shareable plates which covered a wide variety of culinary ideas, all of which were well executed. The grilled prawns, Brussels sprouts, and scallops were all lovely for the summery atmosphere. They also have some fun quirky items, like jello shots and corn nuts! Our server was very friendly and made time to answer our questions on the menu and humor my dad showing her his aquarium live stream - truly a gem of a person. I was so excited to eat the food that I forgot to take photos of most of it, which should speak for itself!
Went to GusGus for dinner tonight with my husband. It was our first visit, and we both left really impressed. The space is small, dimly lit, and has a cozy, intimate vibe. Service was excellent from start to finish. I started with the Birds Aren't Real cocktail, which was strong in the best way and really well-balanced. My husband ordered the Old Fashioned and noted he was pleasantly surprised by the size and enjoyed it overall. For appetizers, we chose the Beef Tartare and the Grilled Prawns. Both were standouts. My husband normally doesn't care for tartare, but even he liked this one -- packed with flavor and served on incredibly good bread. The prawns ended up being our favorite dish of the night. They were perfectly grilled and paired with a Malta sauce that was absolutely fantastic. For my entrée, I ordered the Scallops with Lemon Risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but the risotto leaned a bit too lemon-forward and slightly overpowered the dish. Still, I enjoyed it. My husband went with the Rib-Eye and Brussels Sprouts. The steak had great seasoning but was a little tough. The Brussels sprouts, on the other hand, were outstanding -- full of flavor with a mix of mild heat, tanginess, and saltiness. The fish sauce added a really nice depth. Overall, we both felt the appetizers and sides stole the show, but the entrées were still very good. We wrapped up dinner with the When Doves Cry cocktail, which we both loved -- even more than our first drinks. We'll definitely be back. Next time we're eyeing the Taleggio Hand Pie, the Mussels, and I'll probably give the Gnocchi a try as well. GusGus is absolutely worth returning to.
We had a great time here. Friendly service, an intimate atmosphere, and a creative menu that immediately grabbed our attention. We started with the chips with speck, crème fraîche, and smoked salt, which ended up being the star of the meal. The chips were thin, crisp, and perfectly salted. The tangy crème fraîche and savory speck balanced everything so well. Simple, but executed with real intention. The poutine was a fun idea with fried gnocchi in place of fries. The texture was perfect with a crisp exterior and soft center. The overall dish felt a bit too heavy, though. With both the gnocchi and the cheese curds, it needed something bright to cut through all that richness. The cheeseburger was solid and seasoned well. The patty was juicy and flavorful. The only thing missing was crispier edges to take it to the next level. It covers the basics and tastes good, but it did not have anything that made it stand out. We ordered the Spritz Salato and it was refreshing with a nice herbal bitterness from the Amaro and sherry. It paired really well with the snacks. The only real disappointment was the French toast dessert. We had seen it on their website and were excited to try it, but it was not on the dessert menu during our visit.
Might be the best cheeseburger I've ever eaten. The cake was phenomenal as well. We made reservations. Plan for finding parking but it's doable! The service was spot on. The drinks were fabulous. I'd recommend to others and can't wait to return.

Gus Gus has to be one of our favorites!! Burger - insane, I don't get how they get the cheese that melty, so so good. Beef tartare - would pass next time, it was a little salty for my liking. Shishito peppers - it's hard for me to not get these when they're on a menu and they were fun and delish. Tomatoes - they serve these with Chinese sausage and the combo was so good. Tuna crudo- the sauce/oil they have on the top of this makes it so good and the tuna tastes so fresh. Will get this every time. Jell-O shots - so fun, I love these, if you like Aperol spritzes, you have to get! Good "old fashioned" lover boy - an old fashioned with miso and a banana liqueur, the flavors just go together so well, we bought the banana liqueur the next week to try to recreate, one of the best I've had Kum on Eileen - bourbon drink with kumquat, this was one of the best drinks we've had in a while, cocktails did NOT disappoint. Overall, I totally recommend this place, will be coming back to try more things, and will always think of it!! The vibes are moody and comfy, and the service is amazing! read more
We'd heard the hype, so we had to check it out!! What I'll say off the bat, this restaurant obviously knows its shortfalls, as they are highlighted on the website, and mostly out of their control! I don't think it should stop you from going, but you should be aware before you go! Parking can be a challenge, but we found street parking about a block away. Give yourself time, have some patience, and maybe skip the high heels...they don't really match the aesthetic of this spot anyways ;) The interior is cozy and inviting: bustling service members catering to a full house of patrons in a color-drenched teal setting with adorable and whimsical wallpaper. It's absolutely a small spot, which they do their best to give you space but it's loud and can easily be overstimulating. Pair that with the warm summer months and it was uncomfortably hot in the space as well. I think I would have enjoyed this spot much more in the Fall or Winter when you're craving the comfy warmth of a crowded space. It was a bit awkward that there's no clear direction on a host stand or welcome area...you walk straight in to the restaurant and it's unclear what you're supposed to do or where you're to go. We aimlessly wandered around the restaurant looking for a host stand until some waitress said we are just supposed to wait by the door...This kinda set the tone for the service aspect of the restaurant. The servers were incredibly friendly, but I found the timing to be a bit off and the rhythm never really landed...we were waiting for our server often. The food was delicious! We started with the hand pie, chips and Speck, and poutine. All were incredibly flavorful, savory, and cooked wonderfully. The hand pie was the star for me...just a perfect package of umami goodness! The gravy on the poutine was delectable and they didn't skimp on the cheese! The fried gnocchi was a fun spin on the classic dish! Might have just been what we ordered, but I thought the whole meal was very salt-forward, which I appreciated but could see where others might not. Lastly, we had the famous Double Cheeseburger. Now, I'm hesitant to agree with others that it's the BEST burger in the Cities, but it is very good. No shortage of classic supporting characters: oozy gooey cheese, caramelized onions, and pickles. Definitely an "eat with fork and knife" style burger! Overall, a great spot for soul-filling comfort food! A few challenges that they can't overcome due to location and space, but a few kinks they can sort out on the service side would elevate this spot to the next level! read more

Lovely ambiance, perfect for a romantic date and great conversation. As much as I enjoyed the candlelit table, the food also was just as amazing. I ordered the gnocchi with sweet corn beurre blanc, grilled corn, oyster mushrooms & lemon mascarpone. The flavors complemented each other very well. I really loved the complexity of the dish, with the gnocchi cooked to perfection, zesty mascarpone, and saltiness from the oyster mushrooms. When I am in the area again would love to come back to try something new. read more
Wow!!! Had dinner at Gus Gus last night and already can't wait to go back for more. The scallops with lemon risotto were absolutely incredible. Really nice wine list, although lean, I had no troubles finding great wines to pair with each course. Service from Haley was genuinely warm and hospitable, you can tell the staff actually like their jobs and who can blame them with such delicious food. Happy hour was buzzing and definitely on the louder side but did not detract from an excellent experience. read more

Quickly became one of my wife's favorite restaurants! Every single thing we've tried here has been unique and top notch. We tried it out for the first time a couple months ago and we came back again, which we hardly ever do since we like to try new restaurants. Service has always been super friendly and prompt, they're great at giving recommendations and a rundown of the menu. The place is a little smaller and can get quite loud when busy, but we were always able to hold a conversation just fine. Would be fun to try and do bar seating next time we're there. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back! read more

Came here hungry, knowing I was at least getting a burger. We showed up right when they opened at 4 and were greeted with warm, friendly service. All of our food came out quickly and tasted great. We started with the chili cheese fries and the gem lettuce salad. For our main meals, we had the happy hour burger (a must-try) and the poutine. I enjoyed everything. My wife loved the burger and salad and said next time she's going with a burger and plain fries. To top it off, we had the dark chocolate cake, which was excellent. We came for our anniversary a few years ago and had an absolutely delightful experience. The restaurant is on the bottom of an apartment building and has this charm that reminded me of New York. The food was fantastic. We tried the poutine with oxtail - it was a very heavy dish. I had pan seared halibut for my main dish and it was delicious. The servers were kind and attentive. Loved the cute decors and outdoor patio seatings! It's located in a peaceful neighborhood and the staff was so funny and amazing, she answered every single question we had and really made my day! GusGus was such an amazing treat for dinner tonight with a friend. We started things off right with the Jell-O shots - pretty with edible glitter :) we shared the chips with caviar (which was delicious) and I devoured the cheeseburger while my friend enjoyed the risotto. GusGus has been on my list for sometime now and it lived up the hype I was hearing. It's a small cozy spot that seriously feels like you're having dinner at your best friend's house. The lighting was dim and my friend and I were literally cracking up because she couldn't read the menu without her phone flashlight on full blast, haha! The decor is super cute. The menu has a variety of options, but we both had our hearts set on the burger. Hands down one of the best burgers I've had since Saint Dinette. SO cheesy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The french fries were cooked to perfection: crispy, salty, and completely addictive. I really wanted to take down my entire burger and fries because it was so scrumptious but I had to tap out halfway and take the rest to go as I was too full. I'm a huge chocolate lover and kept seeing the chocolate cake coming out to tables (it's like I was being tested or something, lol), so I just had to get a slice to go. I'm happy to report no regrets with my decision, but I was bummed my to go slice was noticeably smaller than the ones coming out in the restaurant. Service was fair, nothing bad, nothing standout. Went to Gus Gus for happy hour with friends and sat in the bar. The cheeseburger did not disappoint, good bun and perfectly seasoned. The halibut was small but tasty. The chili nachos were good but I'd skip the olives and corn nuts. Cocktails were tasty and they also had beer on tap. Limited parking in the lot. read more
Truly become one of my fav places to go!! The food is absolutely amazing, never thought I would rave about bread but the bread is so GOOD! The waitstaff are so kind and never have had a bad experience. It is a little small so plan for reservations at busier time, also it can get a little loud but nothing over the top. I would recommend the burger, it's very good! read more
Took my partner here for his birthday dinner. It was a very nice experience. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately. The restaurant was buzzing and there were a decent amount of people there and the lighting was low and the ambiance was welcoming and definitely had its own little vibe. We were brought to our table in the back, ordered drinks immediately and they also had some yummy $5 jello shots on the menu (we did like 4 or 5 rounds of these), they were nice and fresh, lights, ez to take and didn't taste fake or artificial. Our waitress was great, she was not overbearing or too much, she made sure to check on us fairly often and addressed single need. We got the chips with creme fraiche and speck.. these were just the perfect app! The chips were house made and nice and light with the creme fraiche and getting a little piece of speck as like getting a lil slice of heaven and it nice and salty.. enjoyable! We also got one of the salads (I cannot remember which) but it was good and fresh and a perfect addition to our meal. We also got the shrimp.. ok, this was amazing! The shrimp were huge, in shell and the lil sauce that was served with it was chefs kiss! We got the burger... ok... great great burger. The meat was cooked to perfection, the only problem is that the bun was too much, we actually needed to take some of it off because it over powered the actual burger. We got the scallops as well but ended up sending those back because they were salty. She took them back and did not charge us so that made sense. We also got the chimichurri steak.. oh lalala! The steak was sliced to perfection, it was a great cut, cooked perfectly and the chimichurri was just so good and fresh and light. I let the waitress know it was my partners birthday and to bring us 2 glasses of champagne.. which she did. And she brought out another round of jello shots with a candle.. lovely touch! While the meal was amazing, the service impeccable, and the food was good.. I don't think I'll be going back here.. but nonetheless.. will recommend! read more

The drinks here were outstanding; unique and delicious! The food was great too. We ordered the burger and scallop risotto. I'm not a mustard fan, so the burger's sauce wasn't my favorite, but it was still tasty. My wife raved about the burger! The scallop risotto paired with the citrus salad was exceptional, with perfectly seared, tender scallops. read more
