I'd been wanting to check this place out for a long time and was excited to find an open reservation on a Saturday evening! It's a quaint old home with just a handful of tables and very cozy with great classic decor. Our server was wonderful, kind and knowledgeable. The menu is unique and limited. Our server recommended the Beef tartar and Lengua = cow tongue!! I wasn't brave enough to try either. We shared the Brussels sprouts and French friends for appetizers - both good! I ordered the scallops for dinner, they were just okay. Maybe I should have taken the servers recommendations? My husband ordered the ribeye and it was DELICIOUS - packed with flavor. My son ordered the cheeseburger and said it was the best one he'd ever eaten! (And he's had a LOT of burgers) He said it just melts in your mouth. My youngest son asked if they had a kids menu. Our server listed off what they could make for him and he was thrilled to hear chicken tenders on that list! He ate every bite. There was street parking all around and the Univesity of st Thomas is across the street so you could wander around before of after dinner to see the campus! Great night out! Though we brought our boys, this would be perfect date night spot.
Really delicious food here. Feels upscale and sophisticated. Came with a group of 4 and sat outside on a very hot and sticky day. Waitress was able to match energy with everyone at the table, even my dad and his dad jokes, which is always a plus! Every dish was so delicious with well balanced delicate flavors and tender high quality ingredients. I got the poutine and it was out of this world. Yum. My favorite was the gnocchi though, the creamy sauce and lemon mascarpone were immaculate with the pillowy gnocchi and mushrooms/asparagus! The sea bass was also quite good, really enjoyed the white bean ragu. The piña colada sorbet was light and refreshing after the poutine and I lived the toasted coconut bed it was sitting on. I'm not a rhubarb girl, but everyone else said that pie was amazing too. Will definitely return!!!
We are new to St. Paul and this place will be tough to beat! We shared the hand pie to start. The pastry had perfect crisp flaky texture and the savory and salty mix of the cheese and demi glaze were delectable. Next we had mussels which were also amazing. The white wine broth was seasoned beautifully and soaking it up with the accompanying crusty bread was divine. For our main we shared the gnocchi with mushrooms and asparagus. The sauce was the perfect mix of creamy, lemony, and salty. The textures and tastes were simply perfect. We didn't save room for dessert but got the piña colada sorbet anyway. The sorbet was delicious but the toasted coconut is what made the dish our fourth 10/10. The service was kind, quick, and courteous. The ambience was close and talkative but cute. There were also some nice seats on the patio which were quieter and also very cute. We will be back. Often.
Had a great time at GusGus! The inside is a cool vibe, can definitely get loud in there but overall great atmosphere. They also have patio seating. Service was a little slow but everyone was so kind and I was catching up with a friend so it didn't bother us. Just something to keep in mind if you're on a time crunch. The food.. so good! This is one where I'll say the Cheeseburger hype is 1000% valid. It's so good. Highly recommend! I also got the Pink Moon cocktail to drink and would get it again. Delicious drink!
Made a reservation for a birthday and waited a while before we were seated. Ordered mussels, brussel sprouts, lengua sliders and sea bass. Felt everything was not bad but on the salty side. My favorite dish is probably the brussel sprouts. We also ordered two cocktail drinks, I liked the pink moon. It was a small space and the tables were pretty close to each other. We also did the jello shots, but they were just ok.
GusGus is a staple in St.Paul! I try to come here often as I can because the food is just amazing. We ordered the Tuna crudo and beef tartare to start off. The tartare had so much flavor to it. It had a nice mussel aoilo that really brought it together. The crudo was great as well. Had a little spice to it but felt fresh to eat. Entree: we ordered the double cheeseburger and Poutine. Have no words to describe how amazing it was and I've tried burgers all over the twin cities. The patty was cooked medium/medium rare, with carmelized onions, pickles and mustard aioli. Every bite was so delicious and flavorful, how a burger should be. The poutine was also amazing! The cheese, gnocchi and ox tail was such a wonderful and unique combo. Dessert: we ordered the dark chocolate mousse cake. It was topped with whip cream and had a piece of chocolate on top. It was amazing! Chocolate wasn't too overly powering and the whip cream balanced it out. The service was great! Checked in how we were doing and asked if there was anything needed. We were seated at the bar, which was a little spacious, but could be cramped if there are others around. The ambience there was good! It is dim but still has enough light to look at the menu. Parking can be tough as well, but honestly the food makes up for it! I would highly recommend GusGus to anyone!
Happy hour at Gus Gus is LIT! I didn't take the best pictures because looking around I was the only jerk off taking pictures of my food so the aesthetic isn't there but let me tell you! Everything on the menu sounded so good that we had to try a little bit of everything. CHIPS speck, créme fraiche & smoked salt & caviar FRIES bagna cauda aioli CHILI CHEESE FRIES BRUSSELS SPROUTS fish sauce vinaigrette, peanuts & pickled peppers THE CHEESEBURGER caramelized onion, mustard aioli w/fries LENGUA SLIDERS pepperoncini, provolone & demi SHISHITO PEPPERS Cotija cream sauce Everything tasted delicious we were all very impressed with the menu. Our favorite happy hour items were the lengua sliders, so tender and flavorful on a buttery crispy brioche bun and I personally loved the Brussels sprouts - they were packed with flavor. The burger *smothered in onions* was also very good. The fries were also great along with the chili cheese fries but if I were to order again I'd skip the regular fries and would order the chili cheese fries with the aoli because that combo was fantastic. Our friends ordered the fish entree and the prawns, both were ranting and raving about the sauces and the flavors of their dishes. Our waitress was fabulous - she was bubbly and friendly and service overall was really fast considering how busy they were.
Magical experience. Be prepared to be blown away by the food at GusGus. This is truly one of the best restaurants in Minnesota. I say this as someone who can be hard on the food here. GusGus does not disappoint. It's an intimate space where you feel like you're in the mix of things. The service was good. They have NA bubbly as well as drinks. We ordered a few items - the tartar to start, followed by the ribeye, then the burger, and the rhubarb crème brûlée pie. 10/10. Really delicious. I will be back and bringing my guests.
What a great little spot! And when I say little, I mean it's a tiny restaurant, located on the ground floor of an apartment building. But they cram people into this space and certainly make it work. Great service, very friendly and knowledgeable on their menu and drinks. They have a full bar, and a small wine selection. But the food was what it was all about! The burger and fries were amazing! We also shared some brussel sprouts and they were delicious! The oxtail poutine was rich and savory, made with gnocchi instead of fries and it was a fantastic twist to poutine. Make a reservation if you want to guarantee a seat, otherwise you may be waiting for a table. But if you do have to wait, it's worth it all the way!
We had such a nice dinner on the patio at Gus Gus. The beautiful weather definitely helped make this a great visit to a very cozy neighborhood restaurant. We tried a wide variety of their apps and shareable plates which covered a wide variety of culinary ideas, all of which were well executed. The grilled prawns, Brussels sprouts, and scallops were all lovely for the summery atmosphere. They also have some fun quirky items, like jello shots and corn nuts! Our server was very friendly and made time to answer our questions on the menu and humor my dad showing her his aquarium live stream - truly a gem of a person. I was so excited to eat the food that I forgot to take photos of most of it, which should speak for itself!
Went to GusGus for dinner tonight with my husband. It was our first visit, and we both left really impressed. The space is small, dimly lit, and has a cozy, intimate vibe. Service was excellent from start to finish. I started with the Birds Aren't Real cocktail, which was strong in the best way and really well-balanced. My husband ordered the Old Fashioned and noted he was pleasantly surprised by the size and enjoyed it overall. For appetizers, we chose the Beef Tartare and the Grilled Prawns. Both were standouts. My husband normally doesn't care for tartare, but even he liked this one -- packed with flavor and served on incredibly good bread. The prawns ended up being our favorite dish of the night. They were perfectly grilled and paired with a Malta sauce that was absolutely fantastic. For my entrée, I ordered the Scallops with Lemon Risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but the risotto leaned a bit too lemon-forward and slightly overpowered the dish. Still, I enjoyed it. My husband went with the Rib-Eye and Brussels Sprouts. The steak had great seasoning but was a little tough. The Brussels sprouts, on the other hand, were outstanding -- full of flavor with a mix of mild heat, tanginess, and saltiness. The fish sauce added a really nice depth. Overall, we both felt the appetizers and sides stole the show, but the entrées were still very good. We wrapped up dinner with the When Doves Cry cocktail, which we both loved -- even more than our first drinks. We'll definitely be back. Next time we're eyeing the Taleggio Hand Pie, the Mussels, and I'll probably give the Gnocchi a try as well. GusGus is absolutely worth returning to.
We had a great time here. Friendly service, an intimate atmosphere, and a creative menu that immediately grabbed our attention. We started with the chips with speck, crème fraîche, and smoked salt, which ended up being the star of the meal. The chips were thin, crisp, and perfectly salted. The tangy crème fraîche and savory speck balanced everything so well. Simple, but executed with real intention. The poutine was a fun idea with fried gnocchi in place of fries. The texture was perfect with a crisp exterior and soft center. The overall dish felt a bit too heavy, though. With both the gnocchi and the cheese curds, it needed something bright to cut through all that richness. The cheeseburger was solid and seasoned well. The patty was juicy and flavorful. The only thing missing was crispier edges to take it to the next level. It covers the basics and tastes good, but it did not have anything that made it stand out. We ordered the Spritz Salato and it was refreshing with a nice herbal bitterness from the Amaro and sherry. It paired really well with the snacks. The only real disappointment was the French toast dessert. We had seen it on their website and were excited to try it, but it was not on the dessert menu during our visit.
Might be the best cheeseburger I've ever eaten. The cake was phenomenal as well. We made reservations. Plan for finding parking but it's doable! The service was spot on. The drinks were fabulous. I'd recommend to others and can't wait to return.

Such a cute and cozy spot! We came for Valentine's Day and it was the perfect date-night atmosphere. We shared a plate of chips, I ordered the burger, and my boyfriend got the ribeye -- everything was amazing. The friendly staff really topped off a great experience. read more

While be warned parking is a challenge don't let that detour you! A quaint place with great ambiance. The gnocchi short rib poutine is a great twist on a classic! The burger was seasoned well and done to perfection as were the fries! The chocolate cake for dessert was a perfect end to a wonderful dining experience. Sorry no photo of the cake it went too fast. read more
We found Gus Gus while searching for a cool, intimate place for dinner, and it did not disappoint. After reading the reviews of others, we knew we had to try. The setting is very intimate, the dinning areas are small with low ceilings. Many commented on the level of noise in the restaurant, and that's true, but for us it just added to the excitement of our visit to see how happy everyone was to be there enjoying themselves. We started with the housemade chips topped with creme fraiche, and we added the caviar. Homerun for sure. Do not sleep on the chips. Well worth it and a perfect snack while you wait for your entrees. We also tried the NY strip and the mussels. My wife and I both agreed that the mussels were the best we have ever eaten, and we have tried them about everywhere. Our server was very friendly and offered nice drink suggestions. It's a compact setting, but they were very quick to clear the tables as you went to make it all manageable and enjoyable. The atmosphere was very cool and buzzed with excitement. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

Gus Gus is my favorite in the cities! The staff is super sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. It is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The scallop lemon risotto is my go to and the Jell-O shots are a must. It is a super small place so I recommend getting a reservation. read more
Gus Gus continues to be that place I dream about--and somehow, every visit gets better and better. This place is truly to die for, and hands down my all-time favorite spot for a burger. Nothing outshines their cheeseburger: it's a cheesy, melty masterpiece topped with caramelized onions and mustard aioli, served with pickles and a mountain of crispy fries. It's everything you could ever want in a burger and more. You just have to trust me and go experience it for yourself. Let's talk about the fries--perfectly golden and crisp, and still amazing the next day (yes, I took some home and was still impressed). Gus Gus doesn't skimp here; it's French fry heaven and I'm not complaining. As a little pre-burger snack, I had the house-made chips with speck, crème fraîche, smoked salt, and caviar... stunning. Fancy but approachable, this dish felt like a luxe twist on comfort food and was such a treat-yourself moment. To finish off the meal, we went with our server's favorite dessert--the Brûléed Buttermilk Pie with orange marmalade and crème fraîche--and wow, it was the perfect ending. Creamy, bright, a little tangy, a little sweet... just a dream. The staff are always so kind, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the food consistently comes out fast and fresh. Gus Gus is a true hidden gem in St. Paul and deserves all the love. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

Gus Gus was phenomenal. I remember when the space used to be Cafe 182 when I went to UST. It was fancy then and it's fancy now, the inside is so eclectic with teal walls with black donkey prints and gold or brass accents. It was very chic but a little dark for photos. We were sat near the corner and had a very nice waitress who gave us recommendations. It was my groups first time going to the restaurant and we were celebrating a birthday. I had the double cheeseburger with grilled onions and cheese and it was fantastic. Easily one of my top five burgers in the twin cities it was just melting in my mouth and was so savory and perfect somehow. The girls got the gnocchi dish with butternut squash and they didn't love it as much because there was too much mascarpone which was similar to sour cream, they did like gnocchi it was perfection. The fried gnocchi poutine for our appetizer to split was phenomenal it had oxtail that was so savory. The poutine was so filling and the fried gnocchi was chefs kiss. My other friend had the scallops and said the lemon risotto was amazing. No complementary desert was offered but that's okay we went to cafe latte after for cheesecake slices! Seemed like a missed opportunity to promote desserts from the menu. A perfect night, I nightly recommend the burger. Another top burger is Parlour Bar in Saint Paul with egg and bacon on top. I'm getting hungry writing this now! read more
Had an amazing weeknight dinner here. Boy were they busy on a Wednesday night! Definitely recommend making a reservation. We ordered a conglomeration of small shared plates and this was definitely the way to go! The star of the meal was definitely the grilled prawns with chef made Malta sauce. Wow- I could drink it up. Fantastic flavor and prawns were perfectly cooked. The tuna carpaccio was a great starter with a hint of spice! Loved the oxtail poutine. The potatoes were not traditional fries, but nonetheless fantastic. Each bite was a little mystery- is it cheese, meat, or potato? A very well done dish. Not pictured is the Brussels sprouts. Also fanatically nutty and flavorful. Also enjoyed trying a new-to-me wine. Cocktail menu is also amazing. Check it out!! read more

Five stars, you beautiful thing! I've loved you since you were Stewart's. This place is always packed. Make reservations. There's usually one space left at the bar. It's such a unique space in the lower level of a basic apartment building across from STU. Great happy hour, friendly staff, and adorable. They serve the #2 burger in the cities, which is an amazing ranking. It has everything you want in a smash burger: pickles, rich and gooey American cheese, amazing caramelized onions that give it such a smoky taste, somewhat reminiscent of the whitier of the castles, according to some palates. I don't even mind the brioche bun. Generally I think a brioche bun is too sweet with a cheese burger, but it compliments this one bc of the onions. ITs incredibly Tasty, bite after bite. Not to mention, the fries are dank as well! I can't say enough about this burger. I've tried a few other things, but literally everyone gets the burger. Now I want one! read more
My first time at Gus Gus and it was great! Be warned that this place is VERY small but adorable. It can get loud but if you are with the right group it doesn't matter. We ordered the gnocchi & smash burger both were delicious! We also ordered the brussels sprouts as an appetizer to share, unfortunately, our server had forgotten about those, but once we reminded her, she very quickly apologized and comped them for us which was appreciated! We also ordered the chocolate mousse cake for dessert and it was incredible. Overall a cute spot for a date night or catching up with friends. Their menu is unique and quite limited, but depending on your appetite, I'm sure you can find something that you like. read more
Stunning! GusGus offers of an exceptional experience of service and fare in a warm, cozy atmosphere. Visited on a late Sunday morning for brunch service. Located in the lower level of an apartment complex near the St Thomas campus, this is literally a HIDDEN gem. Upon entering we were immediately taken by its quaint appearance. We quickly took seat at the bar and were greeted immediately by the bartender. Let me tell you. The service here is top notch. Our bartender was so much fun. While the food was amazing it was the conversation from the bartender that made this an extraordinary meal. About the food! Aaaaaaamazing. We went for the Cheeseburger and Breakfast Sandwich. The Cheeseburger is recognized in the burger community of the twin cities as one of the best. I can confirm, this is a top tier burger. One that I would recommend to anybody. Breakfast sandwich is as also delicious and the breakfast potatoes are hands down some of the best I've ever had. Surprisingly the Bloody Mary isn't a house made mix but they do use Lovejoys so there is zero complaints here. Bottom line, do not sleep on GusGus. This place is special. read more
I had no idea what to expect when we walked into this tiny, haphazard space. But it turned out to be a fantastic restaurant! GusGus is on the fancier side of fare, but the price and ambiance are a little more casual (yet still semi-fancy), so you can relax while enjoying your upscale meal. Our hostess/waitress was perfect with her timing and personality, and we enjoyed our evening immensely. I wanted to try almost all of the entrees (they sounded amazing), and finally chose the sea bass. The bed of white bean ragu beneath the fish was spectacularly complementary, and the flavors proposed with each bite. I could eat that dish weekly! read more

Gus Gus is one of my husband and I's favorite restaurant. The building is so quaint and cozy on the inside. And every time we go the staff is delightful and friendly. But one of the best parts is the food. I would say they are known for their cheeseburger which is SO good and even though it may be a little messy it is worth it. Their other dishes have also been very consistent and delicious so you cannot go wrong. read more

Honestly this was like way more than a 5 star experience and I've been sleeping on this place! I didn't know what to expect walking up to the place because it looked like a little hole in the wall establishment. Went here on a recommendation from a friend for a girls dinner and it was so much fun and a perfect setting for good food, drinks and conversation. We shared the Brussels sprouts and my friends both got the burger while I got the gnocchi. Drool worthy gnocchi and also one of the best old fashioned cocktails I've ever had. Also do not miss the dessert!!! read more

We came here for happy hour and had a wonderful experience. The cocktail was nice and strong which I appreciated. My wife enjoyed the petit sea bass and we shared the ribeye with herb butter and charred lemon which was the star of the show for sure. The restaurant is really cute in a little space and I enjoyed the nautical decor. I hope to come again next time I'm in St. Paul read more

Finally got to GUS GUS, really intimate space and good food. We got the jello shots(tasty and fun), corn nuts, boquerones, lengua sliders, gnocci, and the burger. I think we goofed with our meal by getting some heavily seasoned items which made everything seem salty(It most likely wasn't as we had the leftover burger and fries the next day and they seemed fine). The corn nuts were great, the boquerones were a miss for us(salty & fishy), the lengua sliders were the highlight of the meal as they made us think of the bœuf bourguignon I had in Paris, the gnocci while great could have used a smidge more marscapone, and that burger ...only change I would make is having the pickles and onions on the side as they made the bun just a smidge soggy. Highly recommend this place. 9.5 out of 10 for our experience! ***It's a small space so make reservations. We saw at least a half dozen couples turned away as they were booked solid until 9. You might be able to sneak in at the bar. read more
This is one of those small restaurants with a small menu so they can focus on delivering high quality food. My friends and I were there for brunch and the food was delicious! We started with the Caramel roll with orange, pistachio & sea salt; the dough was flaky and buttery and the combination of sweet and salty was perfect. Then we got the eggs Benedict with brown butter hollandaise and their version of Poutine which is fried gnocchi, braised oxtail & cheese curds. read more
I went for lunch here and I fell in love with this place. It has the feel of an old vidtorian manor and the interior us very elegant but trendy. We did not gave reservations but were seated right away. I had some wine then we placed an order of beets and then muscles. The musels were Well seasoned and the sauce was amazing. The flavors were out of this world and the broth was so good that I We had every last bit of it. The favors burst in your mouth as you nit into the muscles. They were tender and not rubbery. The beets were very good as well. Im not a huge beets person but the presentation was masterful and the sauce was very good. For dinner we had the chilian sea bass and the steak. The steak was very very tender and had amazing flavors. The sauce well I don't generally like anything on the steak but more steak but it complemented the flavors. The meat melted in your mouth with every bite. The sea bass was cooked to perfection. The extra crispy skin was scrumptious and had a nice crunch. The bass was very flakes and flaked off as you penetrated it with your fork. The bass was not dry at all and left a taste of pleasure in your mouth. The staff was very nice and from the start they were very ecomodating to us. Our server was very friendly and was attentative considering to how many tables she had. I took a photo of part the steak and the bass because we forgot to take a photo and were late to it. read more
Since being a student at St. Thomas I have only heard great things about GusGus. 2 years later I finally went and it blew my socks off. Started the night off with a drink and appetizers. Drink was worth the price because it was stronggg. I usually do not go for beats but the table ordered them and they were amazing!! It did not taste like dirt at all and the sausage and sauce on the beets made it all go together so well. It was almost smooth. You aren't allowed to substitute anything on the burger, but everything on the burger is what made burger the burger so amazing. I really consider the bun when I get a burger, and the bun was amazingly toasted and was not too thick. I also split the gnocchi. Anything with mushrooms I am always a sucker for, and this was amazing. The consistency of the gnocchi was soft, but not too chewy and the sauce was not overly powerful. Lastly, the table split the buttermilk pie. I have never had anything like this before but I loved it. It was not too filling and not too sweet. Overall, very cute place and will be coming back! read more

OVERALL: Put this place on your list! I feel like I was living under a rock not knowing about it. This is a GEM. ATMOSPHERE: It essentially is located in a home, so it's super cozy vibes. I will say this does make it close quarters but I think if you're seated in the back room you have more space! SERVICE: Our server was super attentive, there was also a delay in us getting seated so the host even brought us out jello shots! FOOD: The food is absolutely spectacular. The burger is insane - so much flavor and so cheesy. The gnocci was my favorite! They were like large pillows of deliciousness. PRICE: We went in knowing it wasn't going to be the cheapest dinner but we ordered a lot and split it between 4 people and it was about ~$50/each! read more

What a great new spot! I stumbled across this restaurant while looking for a reservation for another night. Looked like a new place so I looked up some info and made a mental note to try the place. When the husband suggested going out to dinner, I thought to check and see their availability. Bonus! They had space at 7:00. Upon arrival we were greeted by one of the owners and we were seated in a nice corner table in the front. I asked how long they had been open. Oh my! It was their first night of service! We felt so lucky to have been able to experience the excitement of a first night. The restaurant and bar were lively and full of happy energy. So nice after a very long winter and pandemic lock-downs. We were ready to have a nice fun dinner, and we certainly did. My husband had the Taylor Swift and I had a glass of wine to start. Taylor was delicious! For food we started with the spicy corn nuts and the olives. Loved them both. The corn nuts had just the right amount of salt and spice along with the crunch. The olives had a nice spice along with freshness of the oranges. Both were a great starter. We both had the gem lettuce salad. Really very unusual for the husband to order a salad. He ate the entire thing, that says a lot. I loved mine too. Good balance of vinegar and oil and no cheese! Thank you. I really like just veggies on my salad. For dinner I had the Clam Chowder with Chorizo Vinaigrette. It was so very delicious. The petite clams were perfectly cooked and very fresh, and the chowder was fantastic. I did admire the knifework of the potatoes and veggies; such perfect, even little squares. My husband had the sirloin. Clearly it was very good as he didn't offer me a bite when I asked how it was. He commented that the buttermilk onion rings were very good. He's super picky on his onion rings. Again, he didn't offer me a bite. For dessert we chose the Butternut Squash Pudding. OMG! It was so good I wanted a spatula to get every last bit out of there. It was a great dessert. And that is truly saying something. I do like my desserts. I also adore pudding. This is a can't miss treat. The cocktail menu and the wine list are very well thought out and balanced. The service is great too. Such a fun place with a great vibe. Can't wait to come back and eat through the menu. read more

Hello Again, We decided to try out this new restaurant by St Thomas College in St Paul! This is a small and trendy place, that can pack things in. Just a real pleasant vibe!
