This is a neighborhood joint if I've ever seen one. I love this place. So local, so consistent. The service is usually pretty good, food is always good, sports is always on and it's just a happy place to be. The bartender had changed us for extra drinks on my bill and a friend with us had extra drinks on her bill. Calling attention to the bartender she admitted it was her mistake my drink order would had been $14 more plus a mix drink. My friends bill had an extra wine charge. Prior to that we ordered a sandwich. She asked what we wanted for a side. We ordered to find out later it was a $3 charge for the side. She made it seem that we had a choice with our sandwiches until the bill came with the extra charges. I like the bar but watch the dishonest staff It's such a shame for a comfortable setting to be ripped of from the bartender at our table. It wasn't appreciated and I will look for more honest staff to spend my money. read more

I've been to Pauly's a couple times and just haven't been that impressed with the overall experience. I usually love a good neighborhood spot but this one was lacking for me. The restaurant is always fairly busy but the service was pretty slow when we went. The waiters were all walking around but It still took about 10 minutes for someone to come to our table. They do have a great beer selection so we ordered a couple drinks and the cheese curds as an appetizer. The curds were good but my burger was just ok. My friend got the chicken tenders which I don't think was supposed to come with fries but she got some with her meal. The menus were also pretty dirty which kinda grossed me out. I'm happy the restaurant is doing well though, it is a good spot but I just think I'll skip it next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

The customer service is 5/5 And a pro tip: absolutely, positively, do not skip the fresh-from-the-fryer basket of French fries - especially with their addictive ranch dressing. Service was very slow and we didn't get our cheese curds until 40ish minutes after we ordered them. I gave an extra star (I wish we could give half stars) since the waiter comped it because it took so long and because the cocktails we got were tasty albeit kinda pricey for what this place is. Same for the food. That small portion of cheese curds would've been $15.50 which feels a little insane. I've been to their happy hour before so I think that's more worth the trip to Pauly's. read more

This bar/restaurant presents itself as an "Irish pub" so I was excited to try their Guinness to see if it was as good as the Dubliner's. Guess what, they were out of Guinness. I couldn't believe it. How is that possible?! It's supposed to be Irish! So yeah,I was a little upset. As for the service-very good. The cheeseburger was sort of crumbly. Ambiance-good. The cole slaw-excellent. If I do consider returning, I'll call ahead to make sure they have Guinness. read more

This place has undergone several transformations over the years, and now it's the vibrant Paulys! The rooftop is an absolute gem for social gatherings, offering plenty of sunshine and refreshing breezes. The view is simply breathtaking, especially after dark when the city lights create a serene atmosphere. The bar is well stocked, and the food was great and didn't disappoint. However, the main issue with this location is the very slow service. It took about 20 minutes before anyone came to check on us. The tables closer to the bar received prompt service, but those farther away were seldom visited. We had to go up to the bar ourselves several times just to order drinks. That night we got to enjoy fireworks from the CHS field. If it were not for the view and food I would have given them 1 star but 3 is in between. I will be going back to review it again and perhaps it was just an off night. read more

I visited Pauly's on a Monday afternoon to try a burger. The restaurant is relatively new and beautiful inside. It's warm and cozy but very spacious. It has a very traditional pub feel to it with a decent size food, cocktail, and tap beer menu. The burger I had was really good. Meat was slightly overcooked but still pretty juicy and the bun was super fresh. I paid an additional $3 to add fries to my $15 burger. They were awful. Cold. Likely really cold. Soggy, floppy, trash. The guy next to me at the bar complained and the bartender just kinda laughed about it so I didn't even bother saying anything. The service was ok. There was one table sat in the dining area, one table in the bar area, and a few patrons at the bar. So not very busy. The food came out quick but the bartender spent the majority of his time talking to the wait staff. This place has a 4% service fee as well which I am totally fine with. I will, however, say that with the fee my bill for a burger and terrible fries was $21.37. Seems a little steep. Burger was good but not $21 good. I would absolutely love to give this place another go and a higher review but given the service and the inconsistency of the food on my plate and the high price, I won't be coming back real quick. Overall good first experience here, though it started out rocky. They don't really have a host stand, and so the seating is first come first served. Which means you can get snaked by a group arriving after you getting a table first. Wish this was handled better. They had a nice selection of beers on tap, and the menu had loads of food options. I had the turkey club, which was good, though a little bland. One kid had the margarita pizza, which none of us liked too much of the drizzle overpowered all other flavor, and no red sauce, which I think is a core necessity of a margarita pizza. Other kid had a foot long Chicago dog (though I am not sure it was fully "Chicago") and he wolfed it down. Wife ate most of her food, picked at the rest. We had brussle sprouts as an appetizer and they were good. It is very loud in there. Our server was great. I'd go back and give it another go for sure. read more

So we learned Pauly's has 2 locations. Ones a neighborhood pub and the other is nearby (less than 10 minutes away, near dt) and it's a rooftop. We were led to the Pub location via the St Paul Patio Passport program but when trying to check in we realized we were at the wrong location. At the Pub the waiter was really nice and explained the 2 locations and how to get to the other one that often people come in asking the same thing. We did not end up eating or drinking here but I did use the coed bathroom and on my... it was disgusting. There was a large pool of liquid around the toilet as well as fluids on the seat. It wad really gross. At the other location we found street parking at a meter but it was late enough to where it was free to park. We followed a ton of signs that showed us how to get to the rooftop, it wasn't hard but those signs were for sure needed! Once we got to the rooftop it was a really nice vibe. Nice view, good drinks and nice seating areas. It did rain a bit earlier in the day we went and the lady at the first pub told us that sometimes they don't open if it rains so some of the seating areas at the rooftop were still a bit wet but it turned out to be a really nice night. This is a new restaurant and I really like the atmosphere. It seems friendly and neighborhoody and I plan on frequenting. We started with the jalapeño poppers. I'm not usually a fan of chorizo and these were quite different than the usual poppers, but they weren't bad. The wedge salad was all right. Bacon a little more done than I'd like and too small of pieces. It was a little plain and could've used some cheese crumbles or chunks. The burger was cooked perfectly and I loved the extra dill pickles. The bun was really nice, but could've used more seasoning on the Pattie's. I paid for the cheese and there could've been more, but all in all a decent burger. The Pauly sauce was a good burger sauce. I'll try again and check back. I'm not willing to give them more than three stars at this time. They're just getting started and I'm happy with them so far read more

Pauly's feels like a pretty standard sports bar. Lots of TVs, rather loud, and menu focused on American bar food. My husband enjoyed his wings while I thought my turkey club was pretty average. I was a bit disappointed by the chips (I was expecting house made vs. a bag) and the cheese curds with dill were not a great texture or flavor combination - it felt like eating uncooked batter inside the cheese curd. I'd also like to see more vegetarian options on the menu. If you're a burger and beer person you'll probably enjoy it, but I was hoping for a bit more elevated bar food. read more

I was glad to see that Pauly's opened after the previous places closed. It is walking distance to my home and I still miss Augustine's. Pauly's has a great menu, great bar food, elevated bar food actually, I like the Potato skins and their Wings. Other its are great too. The tap beer list is also a pleaser. Service is hit or miss if you are sitting at a table. But the real downer in this place is the filthy bathrooms. The one on the left, with the black toilet and sink, take a look at the film built up on the sink, as well as the toilet. Nasty! I told the bartender and I started with praise and as soon as I said; "but" she ended up finishing my sentence. We stopped in to Pauly's on our way home & wanted a beer & a snack. I'm still sad that Augustine's closed, but it's nice to have a sports bar so close to our house. My husband & I each got a draft beer, then we split a Cobb Salad & the Loaded Baked Potato Bites: --the salad was huge & came with a ton of toppings & a large side of dressing. It was overall very tasty, but some of the lettuce & cucumber didn't seem quite as fresh. --the potato skins were really good; there was a smooth mashed potato center & nice crisp, along with tasty dressing on top. This place is very close to where we were staying so I was excited to try it and I definitely wasn't disappointed! Ambiance - 5/5 : Friendly atmosphere and it got busy around the happy hour time so it felt very lively and energetic! Price- 5/5: Given the portion sizes for even their appetizers I think the prices were well within a good range. I definitely felt like I got my money's worth here. Main entrees are around 15-20 and appetizers under 10 for most of them if I remember correctly. Food: 4.5/5 - I got the 3 slider combo as I was excited to try the different ones and the Cowgirl burger was my favorite for sure. All the burgers had great flavor and were cooked to a proper medium that I hoped for. I also got a cup of chili (which came in a bowl and was much more than I expected) and it was perfect for a cold day! Service: 5/5 - Fantastic service and great recs from our waiter. I was excited to try Pauly's because there has been a need for a fun neighborhood pub ever since the loss of Blue Door on Selby. The big windows at Pauly's let in a a good deal of natural light, which made for a pleasant dining experience on a December day. We ordered cheese curds as an appetizer. Pauly's curds are square and come in a variety of unique flavors. We tried the dill, which were just okay because they weren't as warm as you would hope for cheese curds. I ordered the black bean burger which was flavorful and seemed to be made in house. The black bean burger is $16 and says that it comes with chips, but really it's just a bag of chips. I have to be honest, this threw me off a little. I would expect a bag of chips at a deli or walk up counter, but not a spot like this. My husband got the fries upgrade (just $3) and seemed to enjoy those. My parents both ordered the Pauly burger, which the menu says comes with cheese, tomato and lettuce. We couldn't find any lettuce or tomato on either of their burgers, but they reported that the burgers were tasty anyway. Service was prompt and friendly, but nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, this was just a mediocre experience. I really wanted to like Pauly's, but I wasn't wowed on the first try. read more

I had the Pauly burger with their in-house version of "special sauce," 2 beef patties & white American cheese. Delightful! Tater tot side was impeccably prepared. Our very helpful server was Jordan. Went mid day on a Sunday and it was pretty busy for the Bears game! Our server was super friendly and drinks and food came out pretty fast despite being busy. I ordered the French onion soup through Uber Eats. It looked amazing! There was the beautiful cheese layer on top and the thick bread layer... I'm super bummed because it was so sweet that I couldn't eat more than one bite! It's like there were tablespoons of sugar in it. I'm used to tasting salty, beef broth and a very oniony flavor. Every revolving door place here the bar was always full and it was pretty full at 3:45. Same great decor, but I think the benches are new, not sure. With the competition on Selby and Snelling people are not going to put up with rip off prices and these guys get it. I started with a delicious ginger ale. I ordered a side salad. There are no homemade dressings. However, the French was the reddish kind and very good. The salad was so good and all green. Not the filler white chunks. Covered with shredded cheese, I opt for no tomatoes. I can't eat meat till Xmas and it's a pretty meaty menu which I can't wait to try. I got the French onion soup in a generous cup. There was an odd taste to it. Turns out it was the bread. It was a very dark bread at that. The white sandwich baguettes would work better. The rest was very good though. I needed to take home fish for Basil. The only option is a walleye sandwich. A generous piece beautifully fried, and he loved it. I passed on the potato chips that come with. There are only 2 full size options for meals. I think being a pub a Shepard's pie would be perfect. Also a homemade mac and cheese. Especially with the cold weather here.I am anxious to try the spaghetti and the pork chops are locally sourced. There is a kid's menu, I'd like to see it double for senior citizens. A nice addition to the neighborhood. Solid takes on traditional bar food (I had the stuffed grilled cheese and tomato basil soup and would order again and my husband had the spicy chicken sandwich, which he liked). Their cocktail specials were reasonably priced (most were about $12). Ample TVs without feeling like a complete sports bar. And a less crowded feeling than you sometimes get at a place like this. Plenty of people, they just nicely space out the layout so you don't feel too packed in. I'd say this was a nice step above your typical local bar and grill. Nothing remarkable, but you don't go to a place like this looking for remarkable. You look for quality, comfort, friendly service and a decent value. This hit all of those. read more

I wanted to love it. It delivers what the neighborhood needed- a sports bar. When I went, they were just so understaffed, to a point where it was unpleasant. On top of the lack of staff, they give you the bare minimum in execution. Burgers are served with a bag of chips. Kids meal promises a cookie, but when asked about its whereabouts , resulted in confusion and a bag of oreo minis that seemed almost like it was pilfered from the back somewhere. I watched an angry guest complain about the surcharge on the receipt, the staff not know what it was for and the guest crumble up the receipt and throw it at the guy. People don't do that when they get a good meal and reasonable service. It happens when you feel trapped, gouged and disrespected. If you like the vibe of a restaurant at the airport, where they charge you a lot and try to cut as many corners as possible in what they give you, then this place may be for you. I really don't blame the staff for this experience. This is a top-down decision to try to squeeze every penny out of the place. The problem is that it's going to cost return business. read more

I was invited by a friend for happy hour. It took a while for the waiter to notice us and to finally approach us. After he scrambled to get us menus, we had again flag him down to place our order. I ordered fries and a glass of Chardonnay. The fries were not fresh but frozen by Orieda thrown in batch of tepid oil with the hope to dupe the customer that it was real fries. It was a more akeen to fries from a school cafeteria than fries from a pub . The cook was overgenerous with salt and a little sad cup of ketchup sat on the side of the plate. I am assuming that this ketchup was made by Heinz or one of its colleague. The wine was only name and resemble more fruit juice than anything else. The service was incredibly slow. It was busy but not that busy. My partner's wrap was dry and the slaw was likely from a jar and was served in another sad little plastic up. So, 1 plate of bad fries, a glass of fruit juice, 1 dry wrap and a soda, for a total of over $40 is not worth it. A wanna a be Irish pub, but failed miserably. read more
