Great patio! We came by here around 4pm on a sunny afternoon for some burgers on the patio, and this place did not disappoint. The patio was fairly with constant turnover while we were there, the weather was great, and the service was A+! The inside definitely has a dark dive bar vibe, good for some occasions but not super family friendly, but we felt comfortable having a little one with us out on the patio. The food was delicious! We tried the "wings" (made of chicken thighs) and they gave regular wings a run for their money! You can do two flavors which is great, and they're very filling. We also got a burger and the special of the night, chopped cheese, and thought it was delicious. Great portions, we had a ton left to take home. The cocktail was delicious as well, will definitely try more when we come back next to hang out on the patio! Come check this place out! read more

We came in to sample their MN Burger Week offering: a $10 burger. It was a single patty with white American cheese, sautéed red onion, pickle, and mustard on a milk bun. Although it seemed ridiculously small, it was a tasty bite. We added a side of chips and dip, which was a nice accompaniment. The chip dip is onion-fill flavored and delish. One thing I really appreciate here is their food is scratch-made. The vibe here is interesting, too: the building dates back to the late 1800's so there are lots of architectural details to admire, and it's served up with a welcoming amount of flair. Yum. Go for happy hour. Drink specials are awesome. I had the brisket tacos from reg menu, and they were good, but not the tortillas. The tacos were tasty, but could be so much better. I'd like to start off and say I would give this place 4.5 stars but since yelp doesn't let me do that I will do 4 stars. My and my parents stoped here and it's is a nice hole on the wall place! The service was great our waiter was very attentive. The atmosphere was unique! The food was great as well. We had the cheese curds which in my opinion are some of the best cheese curds I've ever had, especially because of the 2 sauce options. I ordered the fish and chips which was fantastic. And my mother ordered the fish tacos and my father got the classic double burger. All of us thought our food tasted fantastic! The espresso martini was also great along with my lemonade which wasn't too sweet and was a little sour, just how I like it! Stopped here to check out the patio also it was highly recommended as a St. Paul staple. Walking through the pub to get to the patio, it was a generally a nice looking place, wasn't too packed on a Sunday afternoon, they had some sports going on the tv's at the bar and decent decor. The patio is tucked in and has greenery around keeping it closed in. We were kind of bar hopping so we just got an app to share- the chips and dip (onion dill dip) and the cran-peach mule. Everything was good. I would probably go back and try other menu items at some point. The staff were nice and attentive. A Saint Paul institution that lives up to its reputation. Great bar with great service and food that doesn't disappoint. Love the old feel to this bar. Great menu full of diverse dishes like the Black Eyed Pea Hummus, or the Seared Torgarashi Tuna, or a fairly simple Classic Double Burger. I ordered the Braised Beef Tacos and was very happy. Love the flavors and the beef was so tender. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was substantial and so good. Will fill the belly for sure. Solid Classic Double burger as well. Also, I did see an order of wings go out and they looked amazing. Will be getting an order on my next visit. To top it all off they have a great drink menu and they make an excellent Old Fashioned. They do have a parking lot in back with a rear entrance. A little hard to find and I would not recommend this entrance if you are handicapped or have trouble with walking. read more

Love, love, love!! This bar has a lot going on for such a small space. They have lots of local beers on tap and their food is top notch. We met some family here and enjoyed everything. I had the Bandito burger, it was so good! Tip: get the avocado slice on top. I washed it all down with a delicious chocolate peanut butter porter. I love everything about this place and this ia our staple to go to. The food is the best bar food in the state. The atmosphere is chill, the servers and bartenders are very friendly and helpful. The kitchen staff is great! I have tried basically everything on the menu and they dont miss! You have to get the chips and dip. It sounds simple but they are amazing. Brunson's is one of my favorite dive bars; their patio is 10/10! I will say, though, on a super hot summer's day, sitting inside is not the greatest (there were some wall AC units, but they didn't fully cut through the heat). My friends and I stopped by for some food after a lake day, & we did have a bit of a wait to sit, but that wasn't terrible. Once we were sat, we were helped by a couple of different servers, who were both great. I got the fish tacos, which were....mid. I was surprised that the fish was in tiny pieces, almost like a deep-friend ground beef consistency? The salsa on top was good, but definitely was 90% of the flavor. All in all, I wouldn't necessarily get them again, but will absolutely be back to Brunson's. read more

What a fun place to visit. Staff is funny as a comedy club. I don't think I can use the word, cook. They food is cooked and prepped with magic or cocaine because these guys/ gals are chefs. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Brunson Pub! Went for a work dinner and loved how relaxed the environment is. Our service was super prompt and friendly. We started with cheese curds and loaded fries from their happy hour menu. Cheese curds are definitely 10/10! They were crisp, moist on the inside, and not greasy. The sauces are the real gems here and made for a tasty appetizers! The loaded fries were okay. Would've liked for the cheese sauce to be on the side to avoid the fries getting soggy. For an entree I ordered the Hoppin John Salad which is warm with collard greens, black eyed peas, rice, roasted corn and lots of other deliciousness. Hands down, one of the tastiest warm salads! My friends and I went to visit because I heard the chicken wings were tasty and they were wonderful. The chicken wings are actually chicken thighs and you have your choice of sauce; I chose maple soy and sweet chili. I also got the maple soy brussel sprouts and a peach mango cider. Omg...yum! I loved this place! We sat at the bar and it felt just like Cheers. So cozy and lots of people who seemed to be regulars. The inside looked like a typical dive bar (but very clean). There was a beautiful plant and tree filled patio that I would love to check out some day too. We started with the house made chips with onion and dill dip. So good! I'm never disappointed when I stop in at Brunson's. It's a local bar in an older building, but it's clean, staff is always welcoming and friendly, and I love that in the city there is a small parking lot. I've had their sandwiches and burgers and loved them both but my go to items are loaded Mac and cheese, loaded fries and their wings. The sauces to the wings are always so flavorful and the crisp outside and juicy inside are a win. They have a solid cocktail and beer menu so there is something for everyone. What a lovely little place, my biggest regret is that we did not discover this place until many years after we had already moved out of the East Saint Paul area! I wish we had thought to explore out this way because Brunson's would've been a regular hang out for us! We loved the almost divey vibe of this bar, it's in a compact space but they have plenty of bar seats, a mix of high top and booth seating, in addition to patio seating (something we discovered too late and will be utilizing on our next visit this summer!). As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the bartender who flagged us down to bar seating right by the kitchen. Literally everyone we talked to or saw interacting with others around us was so, so nice and friendly. The vibes were fabulous and low-key, the food was spectacular, and the drinks were wonderful. We cannot wait to come back! Something we loved about this place was that pretty much all of the food we ordered was made from scratch, and the cook seemed to think up everything on his own! I loved how the menu seemed to blend many of the same great tastes and flavors but didn't seem like they were all the same item. Plenty of old school decor to take in as well. First time here, we're looking for a good burger. Husband got the double patty and said it was really good- not great but really good. Nice flavor, cooked well, nice bun. I had the bean burger and like most bean burgers it was mushy but had decent flavor and the goat cheese was awesome. Service was good and interior is great- nice long bar and what looks to be a really nice patio (wait was too long so we sat inside). If we were in the neighborhood we would for sure go back.
