Absolutely fantastic ambiance. Even in the winter when the outdoor seating is not an option, it is a true pleasure to enjoy the vintage environment of this dining room. On many evenings, they have excellent small-combo music playing next to the window facing Main, super classy music always. Service is always professional and actually notably fast. So fast that you'll want to make an excuse to linger longer because it's such a nice place to experience. I wish I loved the food more. Everything has been fine, but it took several visits before I settled on something I thought was excellent, and that was the Apple Bacon Bleu flatbread pizza. It sounds weirder than it is; the predominant flavor is the bacon, with "apple" and "bleu" coming through as more subtle flavor notes that make the whole thing interesting. I've also had okay Eggs Benedict, Turkey Wild Rice soup, appetizers, and salads. I'm told the Artichoke Dip is good, but that's not my scene so I haven't experienced it. The food is good enough that it's at least worth trying for the overall experience. There are more things on the menu that I want to try, and it's such a lovely space that I'll take whatever excuse it takes to hang out here again. read more

Cool spot to listen to some chill live music and have a drink. Places like this typically have solid cocktails (bonus that they have really good coffee here) but the biggest surprise for me was how good the food was. It was like 9pm and I decided I needed a second dinner. I decided to try the savory pie and it was so good! I burned my mouth a few times because I couldn't help but dig in even when it was hot. No regrets. The vibe is cool, think "dark lounge". They also have a large outdoor area with a fire pit and a window by the bar for service. There wasn't much going on out there on this particular November evening because it was quite cold, but on milder evenings it seems like a great place to hang out. Visited 1/31/26. Full disclaimer, they were a bit busier on this day so it may have just been an "off-day." Stopped in for lunch during Mpls winter festival and I ordered the brunch flatbread. It was definitely a bummer and was missing the bacon but our server didn't check in so I just did without. The eggs are more of a hard boiled almost type texture which doesn't lend itself as well to a breakfast pizza and the potatoes felt a bit undercooked. I ate here for brunch one day on their patio at the recommendation of a local friend. I didn't have a reservation, but they were very kind and accommodating, even helping me find a spot in the shade. The patio is gorgeous, right on on the river with lots of trees. The interior is much more of a dark pub vibe, but fun in a different way. The service was a bit slow, with it taking a while to order, get soda refills, and get my bill, but the server was very kind and and helpful when he was around. He provided great recommendations and I ended up going with one of them--the brunch pizza. TL; DR: Great patio and food Visited Aster Cafe on the Fourth of July and was able to get seated on the patio. We were able to get in right away with 8 people. They had a vibey guitarist playing for a little bit, so the experience felt very elevated with the live music. The Chicken Caesar Wrap was delicious and the Roasted Portobello Sandwich was good (tip: only order if you really like mushrooms). Their dirty martini was good, but nothing too special. Welcoming little cafe along the river side. Wanted to sit out on patio but it was closed due to rain. Inside is quaint welcoming cafe bar with well worn old school charm. Tables are close and friendly atmosphere. We were lucky to get a table without reservations. Waitresses were friendly and efficient. The food runners kept the food coming quickly. We really enjoyed our brunch and recommend the experience. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of my poached eggs. I really enjoy poached eggs and so I want them done correctly. I understand that a busy restaurant can make a mistake but I asked for my eggs to be redone and the new eggs arrived the same, hard cooked. The patio space is gorgeous and is the perfect place to sit at night under the string lights with a drink and talk. The salad was also surprisingly good, very refreshing and good portion for sharing. Visited Aster Cafe for my birthday they were super accommodating we brought a group of 12 people in. Our server was fantastic. We tried a lot of items off the menu. It had nothing to do with Blue Grass but was a delightful Meditarian/North African dish. My partners had more traditional brunch dishes. All were great. My wife and I were downtown for an event, so we had dinner at the Aster Cafe. This was our first visit, but we were impressed. It's kind of a hipster place, but we felt welcomed (we are not hipsters!). We had planned on sitting outside at their very nice seating area, but it was exceptionally windy that evening. However, we were very happy with the indoor seating, which had a warm and welcoming ambiance. I took advantage of their Happy Hour pricing on the flatbreads. This was quite a deal, since the Happy Hour price is only $10 and the normal price for what I ordered was $18 -- almost half price. The flatbread I ordered was the "Apple/Bacon/Bleu" which had an excellent blue cheese, mozzarella, granny smith apples, bacon, and a balsamic reduction sauce. I was afraid it might not be be big enough for an entree, but it was HUGE and I could not even finish it. My wife also took advantage of the Happy Hour pricing by having a glass of the Sangria for $7, instead of $11. For an entree, she had the Smoked Beef Brisket Tacos ($16) which she liked very much. For dessert, we split the brownie with vanilla ice cream and Macadamia nuts. The brownie as chewie, but overly sweet and rich. We sat at the bar on a Wednesday night for happy hour & had a great experience. The restaurant had dim lighting which made the place seem so cozy. The bartender was very tentative & knowledgeable about the drinks & menu. We ordered the charcuterie as an appetizer. The serving size was good for about two people, maybe 3 if not super hungry. Perk about this place is that it's connected to the underground tunnel to the parking ramp so you don't have to freeze finding parking outside in the middle of winter. Decades ago I used to frequent Pracna on Main. It had close proximity to the Main Cinema and the St. Anthony Main shopping complex. Since I was visiting the cinema for an event, I stopped in for dinner at the old Pracna location. The Aster Cafe is very dark inside. Hard to read the menu. It wasn't very crowded but it was a very cold night. Parking is available in the ramp at 2nd St and 2nd Ave with an underground tunnel connecting to the restaurant and cinema. Service was friendly and quick. I tried the Apple, Bacon and Bleu Flatbread. It was good but I probably wouldn't order it again. Not very memorable. It has a pizza like crust which was good but minimal flavor. Food service was very quick but it was a slow night. If they had a bigger menu I would give it another try. Aster Cafe is in a great and pretty location looking over St. Anthony area. I have visited a few times and loved it every time. In the summer you can sit and enjoy the outside patio, its perfect for friends, date night, or even a family gathering. When with my friends its perfect for splitting appetizers, and a sangria pitcher. There is usually outdoor music as well. The food is all great, the only complaint I have is the menu is a little small. In the winter I like to visit as well, the atmosphere inside is always just as wonderful, and the servers are attentive, kind, and will bring you anything you need. They also have live music inside some nights, which is fun to go to. read more

Came last night to sit on the patio and have a drink with a friend. It was great and there was lots of seating available! There's mainly only paid parking in the area but there's a good amount of it. We went for a late brunch around 1:30 so were able to score a table almost immediately.
