Always love the patio and sangria! Got the breakfast pizza and it was delicious- will be back for it! Such a convenient place to enjoy the views and some good drinks.

Brunch flatbread
Emily A.

Visited 1/31/26. Full disclaimer, they were a bit busier on this day so it may have just been an "off-day." Stopped in for lunch during Mpls winter festival and I ordered the brunch flatbread. It was definitely a bummer and was missing the bacon but our server didn't check in so I just did without. The eggs are more of a hard boiled almost type texture which doesn't lend itself as well to a breakfast pizza and the potatoes felt a bit undercooked. Bummer but the location is still top notch!

I ate here for brunch one day on their patio at the recommendation of a local friend. I didn't have a reservation, but they were very kind and accommodating, even helping me find a spot in the shade. The patio is gorgeous, right on on the river with lots of trees. The interior is much more of a dark pub vibe, but fun in a different way. The service was a bit slow, with it taking a while to order, get soda refills, and get my bill, but the server was very kind and and helpful when he was around. He provided great recommendations and I ended up going with one of them--the brunch pizza. It was delicious, with a surprisingly strong lemon flavor that I enjoyed (though I couldn't figure out what it was coming from--the cheese? the green onions?). If I were local, I would come back.

Sangria Pitcher

Stopped by for happy hour around 5. Ordered brisket tacos, which were $4 each during this time, and a pitcher of sangria which was $30. The brisket tacos were really delicious and so was the sangria. I especially appreciated that it had a lot of fresh fruit in it! The ambience outside is really nice in the summer and the views of downtown are fantastic so definitely recommend sitting in the patio if possible. It does get busy after 5:30 or so!

TL; DR: Great patio and food Visited Aster Cafe on the Fourth of July and was able to get seated on the patio. We were able to get in right away with 8 people. They had a vibey guitarist playing for a little bit, so the experience felt very elevated with the live music. The Chicken Caesar Wrap was delicious and the Roasted Portobello Sandwich was good (tip: only order if you really like mushrooms). Their dirty martini was good, but nothing too special. Prices were great for the entertainment and eating outside. Location was great for walking around before and after as well.

Welcoming little cafe along the river side. Wanted to sit out on patio but it was closed due to rain. Inside is quaint welcoming cafe bar with well worn old school charm. Tables are close and friendly atmosphere. We were lucky to get a table without reservations. Waitresses were friendly and efficient. The food runners kept the food coming quickly. We really enjoyed our brunch and recommend the experience. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of my poached eggs. I really enjoy poached eggs and so I want them done correctly. I ordered eggs Benedict with salad and my poached eggs were overdone, cooked hard. See picture. I understand that a busy restaurant can make a mistake but I asked for my eggs to be redone and the new eggs arrived the same, hard cooked. Our friend arrived a little late and joined us, she ordered eggs Benedict with potatoes and her eggs arrived exactly done correctly, see picture. Why the cook couldn't get mine right I'm not sure, but this should not have happened when I asked for it to be corrected. It took away from having a great brunch to a mediocre one.

Met some friends here for a last minute patio drink & app and had a very nice time!! The patio space is gorgeous and is the perfect place to sit at night under the string lights with a drink and talk. The salad was also surprisingly good, very refreshing and good portion for sharing. We were able to get seated right away on a Saturday night as well!

Spinach and Artichoke Dip
Karisa L.

Visited Aster Cafe for my birthday they were super accommodating we brought a group of 12 people in. Our server was fantastic. We tried a lot of items off the menu. Some favorites were spinach artichoke dip, hummus platter and a shrimp bowl. Drinks: my favorite were a mule and an espresso martini. They also have live music very frequently, we didn't stay because it was a $20 cover. Would be a cute date spot with nice weather to walk along the river after dinner.

We went there for Blue Grass and High 48. The band was fantastic. The food was great as well. Had the Shakshuka. It had nothing to do with Blue Grass but was a delightful Meditarian/North African dish. My partners had more traditional brunch dishes. All were great. The brunch, drinks, and service were excellent. Note this is a loud venue, so I would not recommend it for a date event since you cannot talk to each other. Enjoy the music and food, and smile across the table.

My wife and I were downtown for an event, so we had dinner at the Aster Cafe. This was our first visit, but we were impressed. It's kind of a hipster place, but we felt welcomed (we are not hipsters!). We had planned on sitting outside at their very nice seating area, but it was exceptionally windy that evening. However, we were very happy with the indoor seating, which had a warm and welcoming ambiance. I took advantage of their Happy Hour pricing on the flatbreads. This was quite a deal, since the Happy Hour price is only $10 and the normal price for what I ordered was $18 -- almost half price. The flatbread I ordered was the "Apple/Bacon/Bleu" which had an excellent blue cheese, mozzarella, granny smith apples, bacon, and a balsamic reduction sauce. I was afraid it might not be be big enough for an entree, but it was HUGE and I could not even finish it. My wife also took advantage of the Happy Hour pricing by having a glass of the Sangria for $7, instead of $11. For an entree, she had the Smoked Beef Brisket Tacos ($16) which she liked very much. For dessert, we split the brownie with vanilla ice cream and Macadamia nuts. The brownie as chewie, but overly sweet and rich. I can understand why this is a popular place on St. Anthony Main.

Aster is one of my all time favorite spots in the city. Love the patio, casual vibe, overlooking the river and Stone Arch bridge. The food and drinks never disappoint. Best aperol spritz for sure. It's a perfect spot for any occasion - brunch, happy hour, date night. Bring friends or family and I guarantee all will enjoy :)

Forbidden "Emperor's Rice" Bowl
Amy W.

Aster is a decent spot in a fun location--nice for patio season in Minneapolis. In my opinion, the food is good: solid options but nothing life-changing. Service was a bit slow (our server eventually explained an oven broke during dinner rush). I got the Forbidden "Emperor's Rice" Salad, which was fresh, but I actually liked my friend's chicken curry bowl better.

This is my second time at Aster but my first time sitting inside. We stopped in before an event at the Main Cinema and this is such a great spot. It helped that it's connected to the cinema since it was so cold out. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and apps. I got the blueberry pie THC drink and it was soooo good. I believe it was from Dangerous Man. We also got the chips and queso which was more of a nacho cheese but so delicious with house made tortilla chips. Definitely spicier than I anticipated but not too spicy. My only critique is that it could come with more chips as we had plenty of queso leftover.

This is the best gluten free crust I have ever had. It isn't advertised on the menu, so just ask your server. Great drinks, comfy bar.

We had heard about Prohibition before, and given its historical significance in the Foshay Tower,…read morewe had to check it out! Located inside the Foshay Tower, there's street and valet parking available! We entered through the W hotel lobby and took the elevator up to the 27th floor! We were met by a fun, retro-inspired lounge with many couches and tables available in a 360-degree set up. It has Prohibition-themed decor, but I wouldn't quite call it a speakeasy, as there wasn't any guise to entering or accessing the space. My only critique is that the space is quite dated, but not in a cool way. It could really use an update to the paint and interior to maintain itself as a "destination" versus just another hotel bar with a view. The bartenders were quite friendly and helpful during our visit. We had an Old Fashioned and a Paper Plane during our visit! Both cocktails were absolutely delicious and perfectly made. Now, at around $26 each, I would expect that level. Overall, a cool, historical spot to grab a drink!

I come to MSP often for work, and it's always a challenge to find a decent, healthy meal late in…read morethe evening downtown. Fortunately, the Earth Bowl at Star fits the bill and will probably be a go-to on future trips. It's a nicely seasoned, balanced, and clean-tasting assortment of greens, other vegetables, grains, and optional protein (shrimp was a good choice). And the generous pour of cab sauv complemented it well. Food aside, the space is very inviting and calming (and geometrically interesting, being circular in design), perfect for catching up on some reading during my meal. Service was also pleasant. The only thing is that there wasn't much else on the menu that appealed to me personally, so I'm hoping the bowl isn't something temporary or seasonal. In any case, I look forward to my next visit.

They even have hh in Friday. There's a lot to choose from on the hh menu. My friend and I shared wings, crab cakes, Brussels sprouts, and the whipped feta toast. All were delicious and portions are generous. Wings had a nice crisp and were substantial, not tiny. The whipped feta toast is a sleeper though, and prob the one I enjoyed most. Lots of accoutrements, super tasty. The sidecar was great and so was the Benedictine Manhattan cocktail. Strong but well balanced. We were greeted with a warm and thoughtful welcome, esp considering what's happening in our city rn. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Nice, upscale ambiance and decor. It makes for a great after work happy hour downtown or a great spot for a more formal date night. Located inside the Indigo hotel. Plenty of on street metered parking on surrounding blocks. Will be back.

Went on Thursday night at 12. Not super a lot of people there. The dance floor was pretty empty…read more Seemed like most people were out on the patio. There were a bunch of different rooms, which all had different music playing. Didn't explore that much. Mostly just out on the patio and on the dance floor, but I saw pool and other bar games. There was also a photo booth, which we used. Overpriced, but I guess you have to expect that from photo booths. Drinks were so cheap ($4)! And good dance music from the DJ. Biggest complaint is that there is only one stall in the bathroom (the rest are urinals). So it was always busy because obviously there are a lot of people who are trying to use the stall. Had to plan your pees.

Had my first experience at The Saloon for Twin Cities Leather Weekend early November!…read more The thing that struck me most is the impressive square footage of the place. It essentially has four-ish connected but separate "chambers." You come in on the corner into the first one which has a typical bar set-up with lots of bar stools to sit at. Further back there's more table-and-chair style seating because it's nearby their kitchen where they serve hot food; there's also a pool table and darts throwing in this section. Deeper in there's a couple more bars in smaller segmented dual rooms, which is nearby the main restroom (there are several, at least three restroom locations inside). Quite a lot of urinals in this establishment, but a lack of stalls to sit and do your business, which was a little frustrating for someone like me whose equipment requires sitting to pee. No gender segregation though, which I'd expect in this day and age of a queer bar, but still nice to see. The final room is by far the largest, as it has a bar but also a large open area like a dance hall and stage. For this particular weekend it was utilized for hosting the contest, but also a puppy mosh (iykyk). Even as big as it was, it was PACKED during the contest portion of the weekend, making it difficult to see or hear the contest. (I think they could use a more up to date sound system.) We got food while we were there, and it was great. I got a BLT for just $9 and it was piled high with bacon- they did not skimp. Eating it all was a challenge for li'l ol' me. Meals come with ruffled chips that are very salty, but you can upgrade to other side options like french fries, onion rings (which my husband did), etc. for $2. The food was honestly affordable, especially for the amount they give you; I think they do this to discourage you from leaving the bar to go somewhere else for food, which is a solid strategy, haha. Parking around here is... tough, as you might expect in downtown. There is a nearby garage though just across the street behind the bar that I think is just $5 for evenings? I'm sure I'll be back for future events. I myself am not a casual bar-goer, so I don't really go out to these types of establishments unless they're hosting something fun. Always nice when a place is a community gathering space in addition to their regular business. I appreciate this place exists and serves the queer/kink community in that way.
