I love GusGus! From a cozy, chic atmosphere to free street parking and delicious menu, it's all fabulous. The service is wonderful. There is an amazing happy hour 4-5pm. Rose wine on tap! Must try- burger . One of the Twin Cities best in my opinion. read more

When a restaurant has a small menu, you have to assume that they know what they are good at...I don't know this Gus fella, but he knows what he is good at! This is one of the best ribeyes I have ever had! The poutine was delicious! The waitress recommendations were spot on! Defiantly the date night vibe, but casual enough for a group of friends wanting a drink and amazing steak! read more

GusGus - Gus Gus Ribeye... Amazing! Melt in your mouth meat candy! - Bars Near Me - Saint Paul, Minnesota

I joined a burger club and everyone keeps talking about the burger at GusGus. Had to see for myself. Last Tuesday, my friend and I went there and now it may be a monthly visit! To begin, call for a reservation. My friend did this for us. I was thinking, Tuesday night and it's cold outside? No need. Wrong! We were able to get in at 6:30 instead of 6. So, I HIGHLY recommend reserving a table. The Resturant is small. I've seen bigger dorm rooms. But very nice decor and the tables are just far enough away from each other. This would be a great first date restaurant. We got seated right away and both the server and the hostess were super nice. It is very dark inside, so you may need a light from your phone to see the menu. There are so many great choices on the menu. I looked around and wanted to take a sample from everyone's plate! But we weee here for the burger. We both ordered the burger with fries and a Diet Coke. They all came out right away. The fries smelled so good. Warm, crispy and just a touch of salt. We couldn't help ourselves. We started eating the fries and couldn't stop. Literally had to say "stop, we are here for the burger" We tried the burger and had a moment of silence. Soooo good! The bun was soft. It was a nice size, but didn't give any resistance to the main event--the burger. It was perfect. Cooked with a nice seared exterior, on top of sautéed onions. The cheese was melted so it tasted like the burger and cheese were one. I would never add anything else to this burger. We are happy we went. Have to go back and try some of the other menu items. read more

Simply amazing. There are few things I enjoy more than an intimate dinner of amazing food shared with friends, family, or someone special. GusGus might have taken my top spot in the cities. The space is not quite as small as advertised, but it is loud, which just adds to the intimacy of anything. Our server made a number of suggestions, did a great job of selling a dish or two we normally wouldn't have ordered, and made us feel even more reassured in our choices. I don't know what to say about the food other than "incredible". Everything we ate was so well done, from concept to execution. The beets were sweet and rich and bright. The gnocchi was creamy and citrusy and a little earthy maybe? The cheeseburger though... The cheeseburger is something special. I don't normally go for mustard flavors on my burger, and I ALWAYS ask for no pickles, but even leaving these two on, this burger is easily a top 3 burger in the city. And it might be top 1. Will definitely be coming back and telling everyone I know about this place. read more

A fun place, very small very intimate with the food is very good. The beet salad was excellent and was bursting with very subtle flavors. As an example they make their own crème fraîche. The burger is excellent. The scallops were excellent. The risotto was very good. Definitely coming back. read more

Finally I made it here, I have always wanted to check it out. We made reservations during happy hour time and I highly recommend the same because is always busy.. The space is small, cute and intimate. Happy hour is only one hour, 4 to 5pm. We ordered their burgers with no cheese, honestly it is better than Parlour's burger (sorry guys if I offend you). I will definitely come here again for their burgers and awesome cocktails. read more

We came for drinks and a snack. It was a cozy spot to sit at outside and our waitress was friendly and helpful. I got the chips with cheese- it was fine but Id try something else next time! The drinks were good. Mostly came here for the atmosphere and for a catch up with a friend. Did not try anything else on the menu. My friend got two servings of olives! It was a great time and I will be back read more

Unexpected little spot tucked into an apartment building. The service is super friendly and kind. You can tell they care about their food here. Very original dishes - each one unique! Loved the chips, beets and burger we had. The gnocchi was a little thick for me. Also appreciated the selection of non alcoholic drinks! read more

This is a truly hidden gem! Im not a planner and as usual was around the area on a winter Saturday night hoping to get a spot in another restaurant last minute without reservations... when we found out it was going to be impossible, I checked on yelp to find another place nearby and Gus Gus was on top of my list. We were a group of 4 and were able to seat at the bar in a corner that worked perfectly for us. The restaurant is located in a basement of an apartment building and from outside is hard to spot it (look for a black tent). Parking was somehow easy on the street, because there are not more restaurants or stores around. The place inside feels smaller than the pictures and tables looked a bit close to each other, so we were lucky to find the perfect spot for our group by the bar. We were surprised by the great ambience, excellent service, amazing cocktails and delicious food. The menu has a bit of everything and event thought we ordered burger and fries, its not a dive bar or fast food spot, the options are more gourmet like a fancy European style restaurant. We ordered olives, chips, burger, ribeye, dessert and a lot of the "All Inclusive" Cocktail. Everything was perfect! There are some places that you visit once and feel like you are done and checked on your list, but with Gus Gus we felt like is a reliable option to come back, bring more friends and visit more often to have a great time. read more

First time here! Admittedly we drove right past it at first! Service was great! The burger and sprouts were excellent! Gnocchi wasn't my favorite but was still good. We also ordered a dessert to go- ordered the crème brûléed pie but when we opened the container at home found the dark chocolate cake. It was good but I'm not a huge chocolate fan. Ambiance was eclectic, though we both noted that the restrooms sort of ruined the cool vibe. They didn't really fit with the restaurant style and theme. read more

This new place was hopping on a Wednesday night and for good reason. The warm welcome and new decor gave a good impression right from the start. Staff was very attentive and helpful when asked for suggestions. There is an interesting list of cocktail and NA drinks. Enjoyed the Tea Swift. The gnocchi with mushrooms was delicious and they melt in your mouth. The lemon marscapone seemed unnecessary and didn't add anything to the already perfect dish. My friend enjoyed the pork and sauerkraut dish. We want to return to try out other dishes. ( it is cozy do not much room between tables. We felt fine. But I would not go during future COVID surges ) read more

This was our guest time here and we enjoyed it! We went for brunch, which also had some dinner menu options. The favorite was the burger and fries which had a smash burger feel. The caramel roll had great flavor as well and easy to share. The space is small and cozy. The server was very nice but in general, the service was slow. They were very accommodating for a stroller, even With the small space! read more

First time ever at GusGus and it had such a nice and homey feeling to it. My boyfriend and I were both taken care of right away when we walked in. Our server did a great job considering how indecisive I was tonight. The food was amazing, the beef tartare had great taste to it. Although the texture wasn't my favorite I loved everything else about it. The gnocchi was very filling. As well as the burger. Getting the Brussel sprouts to go I didn't expect much from them but they were just as good as I was hoping!!! Loved the flavors! read more

Gus Gus was fantastic! The burger was legitimately the best burger I've had. I'm not someone who typically orders a burger and admittedly I often turn my nose up at people who talk about places with the best burgers. It's just not an exciting or noteworthy food in my eyes. This is the one place where I'll give in and rave about the burger. We also had the appetizer of chips with crème fresche and caviar. Absolutely delicious. Perfectly salty, I'd live on those if I could. Along with the burger we shared the Brussel sprouts. Also delicious, very unique flavors and perfectly cooked. The Jell-O shots were tasty and made me feel like a fancy college student! I'm not typically a specialty fancy drinks person. They are always too sweet or all show with poor flavor combinations, but nothing to worry about at GusGus. We ordered specialty drinks- I forgot the names, something with a hammock and something else with Cherry? They were delicious and made me want to try more speciality drinks here. My only criticism and what kept me from the 5th star was how loud it was. We had a real hard time keeping our conversation and we were there at 9pm. There is nothing to absorb sound and after an hour it was just too much for me. The ambiance and coziness is lovely, reminiscent of little trendy spots around Europe, it's just too loud to hold a good conversation. That probably makes me sound old, and I kinda am. But the point is to talk at dinner and if I have to talk over the 20 people around me, it takes away from the overall joy of the experience. Don't let that stop you. Go to Gus Gus and enjoy! read more

This was one of the best meals I've ever had, and that's saying something given I've been to some of the finest restaurants around the world. The gnocchi was paired perfectly with mushroom and a light sauce, the sea bass perfectly cooked with just the right amount of sear on the outside, and the desert of brioche French toast was outstanding! Walking into a dimly lit small space under an older apartment building. There is character everywhere you look, and you can feel the attention to detail. Fantastic! Have been here many times, the service is always great and the food is consistently delicious. It's a smaller menu but lots of variety and seasonal dishes. Service was great. However, from there our experience just didn't meet the expectation. We ordered wine, a favorite of ours (we are winery members), it came well at or above room temperature. Still good flavors, but this is MN, not FLA and one would expect the wine to be kept at at least be less than 65 degrees. No biggie. Then, we ordered an appetizer. Salty, which while not uncharacteristic considering the ingredients, was making me reach for the water. Then the entrees came and ohhh Nelly more salt and salt with a side of seawater salt. I'm going to wake up tomorrow attached to an IV. Please anyone with high blood pressure beware. Beets should not be treated with so much salt. It's safe to say the cheeseburger should be called a queso burger it was so marinated in liquid cheese, I could have been eating beef, or impossible meat, or even eggplant. It was meat-ishly flavored. Mostly it was pickles and queso and my hands were covered in slop from the first bite. I did not finish it. The fries were a highlight. Over salted, but very good. Overall 3 stars for effort but honestly this place makes me miss Stewart's. By the way you may want to rename the parking lot and signage because they still say Stewart's. For the price I paid I'm still going to probably eat a frozen pizza at 10pm. Bummer. Ps I love salt but care for my well being. read more

GusGus is a small, little restaurant with great food! We ordered the venison cheddar wurst, burger, and fries. The fries were very good and served with a delicious aioli to dip. The venison cheddar wurst was amazing at well! It was topped with a apple slaw - personally wish it came with a bit more of the slaw. The burger was was melt in your mouth, delicious! Perfectly cooked and topped with cheese and sauce again. We had reservation and showed up on time, but still waited about 20 minutes before being. Luckily it was nice out so we were able to wait out there before being sat but if it was raining, unsure where we would have been able yo wait as there isn't a whole lot of space on the inside. Ooh, I'm so so glad to have a solid bistro in the neighborhood!! You can tell right away this place is making an impact on folks. Went to dinner with a friend in the middle of the week and it was packed. Unless you're having an early/late meal, I highly recommend reservations. I think my next few visits will be early happy hour dinners with the hubs. We were seated out of the way in a corner which was nice, as I'm still slowly getting out of my COVID shell. Our waitress was lovely and got our drinks to us quickly. We decided to split the beets and chips w/ speck for apps. I ordered the sea bass and my friend got the steak. We were chatting and enjoying ourselves and I half noticed our apps were taking a little while. No biggie, the place is new and every table is full. Still, a manager came over and personally apologized the apps were taking so long, which I thought was a nice touch. The staff really care about the experience their diners have. Immediately after the two apps arrived. The beets were fantastic, loved the varied flavors. The chips were also very good, but a bit basic for my taste. I half wished we'd gotten the brussels sprouts instead. Our entrees, however, were stinking fabulous. My friend loved her steak (she wouldn't even part with her last two bites and got them packed). My sea bass was incredible, bold flavors, perfectly seasoned, just delicious. The only quibble I have is I would've loved a piece of bread just to sop up all the delicious juices/sauce. The dish felt it needed a bit more starch but that's a tiny complaint. We decided to ask our waitress for her thoughts on dessert and I really appreciated her honest opinion of both selections. We grabbed the pistachio chocolate torte which was delicious, but a bit precariously assembled? The top wasn't really adhered to the bottom so it sorta fell apart. Still tasty! When our check came we saw they comped us the dessert, most likely because of the wait on the appetizers, which we in no way complained about. Such a classy touch. The whole vibe of GusGus is just my style. A casual bistro run really well that serves great food and drinks, and is clearly a spot for locals. I need me that happy hour cheeseburger soon. read more

Great food and cocktails. This place is definitely underrated. Everything we had was fresh and delicious!

This place is so fun to check out! My partner and I had the joy of stopping in for a few cocktails and got convinced into buying a few snacks too based on how good the menu looked. The place seemed to be about 75% full for a weekday which is exciting for them but we were still able to get seated right away without a reservation. Hostess and server were both friendly and welcoming! Server made sure we didn't need any clarification on the menu and we correctly received everything we ordered. She additionally offered a dessert menu when we asked for our tab which is always a sign of good service as well - we love a good upsell - even though we didn't take advantage this time. Service was a bit slow to get our drinks and see our waitress throughout but this could be due to the volume of people in the restaurant. We also never got a refill on our waters despite them being empty for the majority of our meal and tables next to us had carafes of water - just a minor oversight but something I appreciate when I'm at a nice dinner! We had the tuna crudo and we were surprised by how big the portion was for being a starter - it was delicious too! It was spicier than expected but as spice lovers we were happy. We had originally been to Gus Gus twice before and were drawn back by the creative menu. The cheeseburger has recently been written up as one of the nicer burgers in the Twin Cities and we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately we were slightly disappointed, our review was that it was similar to a good smash style burger but nothing to write home about, especially for the price ($19). Additionally, after about three bites the burger began to fall apart as the bun wasn't very structurally sound for the amount of sauce added. The side of fries with a ketchup dipping sauce were also average at best. The two cocktails we got were great however! I tried the "There's always gin in the banana stand" - funny reference, and loved it. It was spirit forward without being overwhelming and had a sweet banana aftertaste. We would return but some slight improvements upon the menu and service would easily make this place 5 stars! read more

Service alone deserves 5 stars. The place is loud due to the small size, but the drinks, wine and food are all great. And what's not to love about fancy Jell-O shots? Make sure you have a reservation as they only have one table that they use for walk-ins and the bar only has about 8 places! read more

I hate to recommend because this is the best restaurant in St Paul. The owner/hostess is the bomb!! Food and service is awesome

A garden-level neighborhood joint in a building that keeps seeing restaurant turnover. The food was pretty decent--I was happy with my steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with a great accompaniment in the onion rings, and my dining companions also enjoyed their food. I have to knock off a couple of stars for acoustics and service. Food was incredibly slow to come out (we were there for a good hour and twenty minutes before our entrees emerged), and there was so much chatter inside that it was nearly impossible to hear each other speak, which makes it harder to enjoyably pass the time while waiting. That said, I probably will give this place another go, and will update if it's just a fluke. Some nights service is bound to be more off than others, and the prices are quite fair for what is on offer. read more
