My first visit to The Mudd Room last night for an acoustic gig. After some googling to confirm, Mudd Room is below the Lucky's 13. When you arrive there Mudd Room is painted on the east side of the building above a small four space parking lot. Fear not; you can park on the west side of the building, also an overflow lot right there as well, a few spaces on the street in the front or across the street from there is designated parking. I entered through the west side of the building that noted Lucky's, fear not, when I entered and told the host I was looking for the Mudd Room she gave me precise directions to get downstairs! Once downstairs I came upon the nice single toilet ladies room. I proceeded in to the bar, asked the blonde bartender where the music would be? She pointed to the stage @ the end of the bar and said it could be loud right by the speaker so she'd recommend sitting a few tables away. She said the parties near the stage were tabbing out if I wanted to sit there? I said I would take a seat @ the end until they were through. Shortly after I sat down the very friendly brunette server brought me a glass of ice water... thanks! She remained attentive all night, filling my water three times. Despite not looking over the menu she was very thoughtful when she popped by just to say it was last call for the kitchen, did I want anything? I meant to get the gals names, I did not, sorry. Music wasn't too loud; the acoustics and lighting were great since the speakeasy is already dimly lit. I don't anticipate this was my last visit; very much looking forward to catching another gig here or meeting friends for drinks! The friendly and attentive service are my number one fast and hard rule for a venue... no matter how good or bad the drinks or food are.... they 90% determine if I will return. I love that I discovered this place. I have been going to Lucky's for years and did not realize this existed. I came around the holiday period and they offer fun festive holiday drinks. By the time we arrived, they were no longer selling small bites. The entertainment for the night was a live band. I enjoyed a few songs and then ended up night upstairs at lucky 13. read more

We loved the intimate speakeasy vibes of the Mudd Room. A somewhat hidden gem connected to Lucky 13's. Antique phone with "secret access" code was a fun start. Dim, swanky atmosphere with limited seating. We had a short wait at 6pm for a cozy booth with a great view of the live jazz band there on a Friday night. My partner is an avid bourbon hunter and enjoyed the selection including Pappy Van Winkle and Blanton's. The menu includes small plates and dessert. We were impressed with the food especially for the value. Great service too! We'll be back! read more

I attended The Mudd Room on a Wednesday during the comedy sessions. It was so much fun! I loved the lighting and the cozy feeling the place had. I definitely want to go back. The menu is limited and, if I'm being honest, the food is probably only worth 3-4 stars. But you aren't coming here for the food - the fact they even have food, is a bonus and when you talk to your friends the next day about how much fun you had last night, you won't mention it. You'll talk about the awesome service, drinks, ambience and the live music - which is consistently VERY good. It's small and seating is limited. The atmosphere at the Mudd Room is terrific. It's great for a romantic date or a chill night with friends. This is everything a speakeasy should be. I would give Mudd Room a five if my drink ("Ma Barker") was good but it was pretty strong and not the greatest cocktail...I wish I chose something else. I was surprised it wasn't good because the waitress recommended it to us. It had an after taste of cough syrup. The service was not the best either...we got there and weren't greeted by anyone and it was a little awkward as we were just standing there a bit/not knowing what to do (no signs indicating seat yourself). We ended up finding a random uncleaned table and sat down. The waitress came over to clear the tables and then came back again asking if we were ready to order. However, we didn't even have menus yet...She didn't really check up on us after we got our drinks either. This might be an under-staffed issue but still...I expected more service-wise since other speakeasies I've been to usually have great service. Still giving this a 4/5 despite the gross drink and crappy service because the live music and ambiance were great. read more

This place is nice and easy-shush.. Don't tell everyone. Drinks are good-cheaper if you don't get a signiture drink- but still worth it. Jody our server was so pleasant- I really was expecting a snotty attitude from this place- but not at all! Another surprise.. the food is really, really good. Order the escargo, tenderloin sliders and the tempura vegtables- our food came out of the kitchen super fast and fresh and hot! I will bring friends and family by to expierence this place. Fantastic find! We loved our food (we did appetizers and split the strawberry rhubarb cheesecake), and the drinks and service were top notch. I have nothing but great things to say about the Mudd Room. Every time I go I ask myself why I don't go more often. 1. Their cocktails are unparalleled. The best Aperol Spritz and the best Old Fashioned. 2. Their food is delightful. We have had various bites over our visits from the charcuterie board, shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, and tenderloin sliders. All are delicious and served promptly and plated beautifully. 3. Their service is unparalleled. We waited about 5 minutes on a busy Saturday for drinks and the servers APOLOGIZED for the delay. I didn't even consider it a delay. No apology needed; but that's how much they care about their patrons. 4. It's a fun atmosphere with great music. The music fits the theme. I swear last night the singer sounded like Rod Stewart. Just so much fun. Don't sleep on this gem hidden below Lucky's 13 Pub. I almost hate to give it a review because I don't want to fight for table space the next time we crave a good drink in an even better atmosphere. Well done, Mudd Room. Keep it up! read more

The Mudd Room is such a cool experience. I am not sure if they got rid of the phone because there was the phone structure but no phone itself. You can just go through the door that says the "The Mudd Room". Once you go down you notice very elegant velvet seating and pretty décor. Went here on a Wednesday night. It was not busy at all, which was nice. The waitress was very attentive and kind. She kept checking on us to see if everything was alright. I ordered a Pimm's cup with ginger ale. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. A hint fruity which I enjoyed. We were given complimentary olives (a pretty decent sized bowl), also we had ordered chips. The chips were a bit on the salty side but went perfect with the dip it came with and the olives. Great place to come for a drink and to hang out. read more

This place is a hidden little gem! It is in the basement of lucky's and I am so glad my hubby found it. We went there last night for a little date night and the whole thing was just wonderful. The atmosphere is dark and unique. They have a pretty good sized drink menu. I am boring and just had a glass of Syrah (it was very good). My hubby had an old fashioned. He is picky about his old fashioned and he was happen. He was also impressed by the round ice ball because according to him that's then say you aren supposed to do it. We ordered the crab au gratin and the charcuterie board. Both were absolutely amazing. I tell you I could live off of this for the rest of my life. The crab au gratin is seriously one of the best things I've ever eaten. The Brie on the charcuterie board was my favorite thing on there. Before we left we had to try the absinthe because neither of us had ever tried it before. If you like black licorice definitely give it a try. I can't say that I will ever drink it again but now I've at least tried it! We definitely will be coming back to this cute little spot in the future. read more

Lovely speak easy - great date place with live jazz, comfy chairs, cozy booths and big fancy bathrooms. Delicious cocktails are made from freshly squeezed juices and all-natual ingredients. My husband had a greyhound and the grapefruit juice was delicious. I had one of the specialty cocktails - spicy margarita, and it was heavenly, and had a nice kick. This is a hidden gem with room for improvement. I'm always looking for places other than chains to get drinks with friends in Eagan and I'm not sure how I missed this one. Decor is beautiful and keeps with the speakeasy style except for the large TVs playing sports. The food is yummy! Lobster guacamole had a nice kick to it, crab gratin was delicious and creamy, and the sliders were good too . I did wish that they had something salad-like or a dessert of some sort. The drinks were well made and there was a good variety between sweet, fruity drinks and more strong whiskey based cocktails. Their liquor selection was not huge but had several interesting options. My only real disappointment, and the reason for 3 stars, not 5, was the service. The staff is super friendly, but neglectful. They don't notice that your glass is empty, forget that you've been waiting over 30 minutes for your check, or - my biggest pet peeve, take your menu from your table without confirming that you are done ordering. I wanted another small plate but my menu was taken and no one checked back in with me until I was tired and just wanted my check. It's not fun to have to flag down a server or call out to them because you've realized they aren't going to stop by unless you make them. I'd definitely go back, but will warn companions to make the most of any time a server actually walks near our table. read more

Located in a newly renovated downstairs space at Luckys 13 Mendota, MN location, the Mudd Room Speakeasy is Lucky's 13 version of the speakeasies opening all over. Access the Mudd Room by picking up the phone in the new eating area at Lucky's and getting an access code for entry. You can also just walk down the stairs, but where's the fun in that? The space is beautifully decorated with red seating, stone walls, dark wood, tin ceiling panels, and romantic lighting reminiscent of the 1920's era. This is a place that makes me want to dress in a flapper outfit and come sip on a Ma Barker. The menu is entirely different from Lucky's and includes seafood by the piece (oysters on the half shell, oysters Rockefeller, or Shrimp cocktail for $3 per piece); small plates ($10-$13);and eleven types of flat breads ~$13 each. Choose a fancy cocktail to wash down your food and settle back to listen to the live music. Service could have been better. The one bartender at the time was not overly friendly. The Ma Barker and St. Paul Smoked Negroni were delicious cocktails. But the Saintly City Daquiri was seriously lacking and tasted like tequila. When I asked the bartender about the drink, he told me he put rum in it and didn't seem to care whether I liked it or not. I did not! That wasn't really my question though and at $13 a drink, I think a little more effort should be put into explaining the drinks prior to serving them. My boyfriend drank the daiquiri and I was left with nothing in front of me and no acknowledgement from the bartender. The Mudd Room is a great concept with cool decor. They offer up a nice charcuterie board with delicious meats, olives, and sauces plus I can't help but love a place that serves a bacon steak. Unfortunately, the drinks are weak, overpriced for the quality and quantity of booze, and overly sweet. The night we came, a large party took up part of the room and was so loud that I couldn't hear the person across from me at the table. The waitress informed us that it was abnormally loud, but it made it difficult to enjoy the ambiance. The decor and overall vibe just radiated speakeasy, which was cool. My partner ordered their Manhattan and I ordered the Smoked Negroni. The Manhattan was overly sweet and had a surprisingly low amount of whiskey in it, which was definitely a disappointment. The negroni was a little lacking in gin, but it did have a great smoky aroma and wasn't overly sweet. We started with the charcuterie board, which contained some cured meats, pate, a few cheeses, olives, cornichons, a couple of jams, and some crackers. It was a pretty good amount of food. The real disappointment was with the cheese selections, which were pretty mediocre except for the brie spread. It just came with water crackers rather than crostini or something nicer, so that was a little disappointing as well. The jams were fantastic and the pate was really delicious, so overall I really enjoyed it. We also ordered the bacon steak, which was three large pieces of really thick cut bacon. What's not to love about that? It was really well cooked and the concept was so cool. Service here was also pretty good. Our waitress made sure we were not lacking in food or drinks. I wish the drinks had been better and that it hadn't been quite so loud because that really took away from the experience. I really loved the concept and I hope that some of our negatives were just a fluke. I will have to try it again sometime and hope the drinks are better. read more

I've been to the Mudd Room at least a couple dozen times. Every experience was good until a few weeks ago. My wife and I showed up early to get a seat at the bar on November 22nd. The music starts at 8:00 so we got there before 7:00 because it fills up. We started with a cocktail. About 20 minutes later I asked about a beer on tap that I didn't recognize and was offered a sample. It was flat and I told the younger of the two bartenders and he explained it needs to be changed out. My wife ordered a Diet Coke and I ordered an appetizer. Since there was no response on the beer keg being changed out I ordered us a couple more cocktails. The food arrived but no eating utensils. It was getting busy now so we were not getting any attention from either bartender. I told my wife everyone is getting served around us, we must not be spending enough. My wife was getting frustrated and wanted to leave yet the music was starting in about 30 minutes. After we got the utensils and napkins the escargot had cooled down so my wife only had one. As I took a sip from my cocktail I felt a chip on my glass. I held it up and found a crack about an inch long. About 10 minutes later I finally got the younger bartenders attention and I asked if I could get just half of the Jameson on the rocks replaced. That's when things started to get beyond just being busy. We were now being avoided. A group of younger ladies were next to us. The older bartender gave them all the attention as if he knew them. I asked about the chipped glass. He then accused me of chipping it myself to try to get a free drink. The younger bartender poured me a half a drink but my wife asked for the bill. She had enough. She paid the bill and went to the restroom and was getting ready to leave. The ladies we're moving in on our seats at the bar. I told them I'm not leaving yet. The older bartender was laughing at me and said you were here so long and didn't even get to see the band. I told him the service here tonight was awful. Then one of the young ladies started to accuse me of touching her. It was obvious they knew the bartender as they all laughed with him. I looked at them in disbelief and then the older bartender reached across the bar and grabbed the drink from my hand. I'm 56 and had 2 drinks in an hour. I wasn't even close to being intoxicated. I've never seen this type of thing in y life. My wife and I left at 7:55. The place was full. I wanted to see the manager but my wife had already left the place. We couldn't believe what just happened. My wife said she will never go back. I told her I will go back by myself and confront him and visit the manager. read more

We went here with the family for a speakeasy Vive and it sure lives up to it. From the entrance phone that gives you the code to the decorations. Fun atmosphere with a wide variety of spirits selection. They have a few predetermined specialty cocktails available and draft cocktails on the menu. I had the old fashion on draft which ended up being really tasty. We also ordered a few items of the food menu. Charcuterie board, french onion flat bread, deviled eggs with bacon and bruchetta. All of them where full of flavors and the portions where fair in size. Finally the staff was friendly and we'll knowledge with the menu and different suggestions on possible cocktails. Came here with a friend for their birthday. The parking on the street can be iffy or fine, depending on the day and time. The entrance is tucked a little out of the way but only a little. Atmosphere when you walk in is great. This is not a huge place. A single dominant bar faced by several small tables near a stage, with a few larger tables further back, capped by a jukebox and bathrooms. The menu is limited but inventive, offering a several appetizers with good proportions, along with a few bruschetta and flatbreads. The main focus is on the cocktails. There are several classic ones, followed by a nice selection of wines and spirits. Not one of the sections blew me away with volume, but they also weren't stocked with boring standards. It is obvious thought and care has gone into crafting the food and drinks. And all of those were good! The food especially was well priced and was great value for the money. The drinks were good, at least from the couple cocktails and wine I tried. The only downside to the experience was that live music was there during my stay. And it was really good! But I'd come to chat with my friend, which was made a little more difficult with the music dominating such a small space. Will definitely be back, but with different expectations. read more

The drinks here have names from another time, Old Fashoned, Gimlet, Manhattan. No lite beer, no sports TV, no obnoxious amateur drinkers. This place has a strong sense of exclusivity, and if you walk in and feel out of place, then you are. Perhaps come back another time with someone that knows how to act. You are really there at their invitation A well made Old Fashion in front of you, you realize a suit would have be more appropriate than jeans, make a note. You lean back against a very soft comfortable bar hichair with a padded back. You swivel to see a velvet curtained stage. Tomasina is singing tonight. Her band are all professionals that would fit on Vegas, in New York jazz clubs or in Princes band. Consummate professionals that enjoy playing. Tomasina herself has the voice of an angel. Not high and shrill, yet her range is amazing. Her voice is a hint smokey, yet perfectly balanced and clear at all times. She doesn't cut through like an indescriminate machete but rather wraps you in a blanket of silk as she sings. Her phrasing and inflection are stellar. The entire group's timing is atomic. We found the place we had been looking for. The servers are in character, the drinks are expensive and you had BETTER tip the band 10 bucks a person. If it doesn't suit you, please don't go. My wife and I stopped in for a Cocktail today and were blown away! Total hidden gem. Our bartender was Matt and he was probably the classiest tender I have ever had. When we realized we had left our reading glasses in the car, Matt just "happened" to have a couple sets of glasses behind the bar just for folks like us. I was at the Mudd Room this past Saturday night with a group of four friends. Initially, we weren't greeted and were left wandering wondering what to do. Once the server (dark hair, long braid, hat) greeted our table she said "what do you want" - no further introduction, nothing. She refused to serve my friend because he was "underage" when in reality he's actually 22 and his birthday is 1994. She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Her attitude was unprofessional and uncalled for. After she made it clear that we weren't welcome here, we immediately left and walked upstairs to Lucky's where Sean the bartender turned the entire night around. THANK YOU SEAN!! read more

Tucked behind Lucky 13, this is a wonderful hide away and worth checking out. The flat bread was 3 dollars off before 6 pm, so we treated ourselves and then had a series of small plates until we were full. We especially loved the oysters on the half shell. The cocktails were inventive and delicious. We each had two. John, our server, was attentive and helpful with terrific suggestions for the drinks and dishes.
