Enter through the Burger spot and look for the Coca Cola machine! Once you enter Volstead House, you can't help but be transported into what feels like a Spirit Library. A huge accent wall lined from floor to ceiling with spirit bottles is the perfect back drop to this cozy hang out. Perfect for a date night, friend catch-up, or solo Whiskey adventure, Volstead House is a vibe! Pair the atmosphere with top notch, educated bartenders and mixologists...you know you'll be taken care of! We started with the A La Louisiane, a spirit-forward, whiskey cocktail with some funk from Peychauds and Absinthe. It was delicious and well balanced. We also shared the Glazed Carrots and the Parm Fries. The carrots didn't hit for me, as the glaze and sauce lacked a punch of flavor but the fries were crispy and delicious. Finally crossed off Volstead House from my A-Z restaurant list, and honestly this one was more about the experience than the food for me. First off, going through the hidden Coke machine entrance is actually really fun and makes the whole place feel like a little adventure. The decor and speakeasy atmosphere are definitely the standout. Very cool space. VERY loud though. Like "lean across the table and say WHAT?" loud at times. The waitress was super nice and recommended a mocktail for me that called Ass in the Sand. It ended up being really good. It tasted like an elevated lemonade and was probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. Started with the rolls and whipped honey butter which were delicious. Very soft, warm, and honestly dangerous because I could've just kept eating bread all night. For the main meal, I did the Wagyu Burger with Parmesan fries. The burger itself was okay but surprisingly didn't have a ton of flavor outside of the grilled/charred taste. The Parmesan fries were actually the standout for me -- hand cut fries and parmesan fries are just hard to mess up. My partner tried the Mushroom Soup en Croute and wasn't a fan because the mushrooms were blended and he said it lacked flavor. He also had a Steak Taco special using their medallion steak and said even with lime it still needed more flavor. Finished with Crème Brûlée which is always a classic favorite for me and this one was good. Overall: fun experience, cool hidden entrance, great decor, good mocktail and bread, but the actual food menu is pretty limited and the flavors didn't totally wow me for the price. Finally got myself in here, and I'm glad I did. You enter the space through burgers and bottles, then walk through a door disguised as a vending machine. My first thought was holy bottles! There's tons and tons of bottles up and down the walls. The space is also smaller than expected, but we went in at 3PM as a party of 4 on a Sunday and had no problem getting seated. I ordered the Lost Footage and it was delicious (and strong!!). It came in a flask inside of a VHS case which was fun. I then got to pour it into my glass. Other members of my group got The Red Wedding, Pity Party, and To Your Health. My spouse and I shared the strip steak and the wedge salad, which we enjoyed. I would like to see some more food options in the future, especially since I'm already pretty limited due to a gluten allergy. However, I am excited to come back. read more

Cool concept, we've never been to a speakeasy before so we were excited to try this out for a friends birthday. The vending machine door was captivating, never would've thought it would be tucked away inside a burger place. The vibes immediately were very cozy, there was barely any space for the 4 of us to even check in with the hostess. Unfortunately it was too busy here so there was a 30 minute wait. There were 4 seats open at the bar but the hostess said we couldn't sit there because it would block the walkway for the servers so that was a bit irritating so after that we left and headed to a different bar. When I saw Janay's review, I said we have to meet there. I love when places are open on Monday and early. I immediately ordered the mushroom soup, because it's my thing. I liked the puff pastry. The soup itself needed more salt while cooking and it was totally pureed, so no visible mushrooms. I got the crab croquettes to share. There was a good amount of them and a decent size. They are on top of a sauce. Janay preferred to dip in ranch. I sampled one with it and it does make a bit of a difference. But they're delicious either way. Speakeasies are a new concept to me so I had to look it up! A speakeasy is a hidden establishment that illegally sells alcoholic beverages, during the Prohibition era in the US around the '20's and early '30's. It was a popular as a way to circumvent the ban on alcohol sales during that time. Today, the term can also refer to modern bars that emulate the atmosphere and secrecy of the original speakeasies. It was quite cool to walk through a "hidden" doorway to find this upscale bar with a posh vibe. The server was super friendly and very personable. We were celebrating our friend's birthday and our server brought us two different types of cakes! They were absolutely delicious. She was so sweet to do that for us! The cocktails were AMAZING! Heard about this cute speakeasy from Instagram and was not disappointed! Definitely would plan to make reservations next time as we had to wait around 40 minutes for a table for 2 on a Saturday at 5 pm. It is a tiny place with not much seating so plan ahead if you are in a big. The speakeasy is behind a fake sofa machine door. Gorgeous inside with floor to ceiling rows of whiskey bottles. Their drink menu was vast but their food menu was pretty small. The burger and salad were excellent! My drink was just OK, for a specialty drink. I thought it would have more flavor. I can't believe I have never been here before, but I loved it and will return. Volstead is a speakeasy cocktail bar in the back of a sports bar. The vibe is clear as soon as you step in the door. Counter to ceiling bottles of liquor. Cozy atmosphere, with a keyboard artist playing music in the corner. There weren't many tables open so we sat at the bar. I would highly recommend doing that. It was fascinating watching the bartender whip up a variety of different drinks. We enjoyed both of our cocktails. We had eaten next-door, so did not try the food. We originally were going to Burgers & Bottles but when we entered we were asked by the host if we were coming to try Burgers & Bottles or Volstead and we ended up choosing Volstead, although we were a bit confused on where it might be located as we could not see another restaurant area when we first entered. So we were shocked when the host lead us through a hidden door into Volstead! What a great surprise as it opened up and was a very hip space. We came during happy hour so we chose to stick with that menu. We got dill pickle wings, Cajun wings, two orders of tacos, and the nachos. They were all really good and a good portion. This place is amazing. Massive bourbon wall with spirits from all over the world. They offer flights to sample flavors from a variety is distillery. The food menu covers diverse food options and all of it is delicious. On this particular visit I enjoyed their chicken Caeser Salad $14. Cute little 'secret' spot for a drink. They open at 3 most afternoons, so great for happy hour, or an after dinner drink with friends. They have a HUGE whiskey menu. Most of the bartenders are very creative and knowledgeable with spirits. They have a small wine/beer selection by comparison. The patio is pretty small, so fills up quickly on a nice day. Inside it gets SUPER loud, so it could be an awkward spot for a more intimate date. The food can be super hit or miss. The duck wontons are really good, but are sold individually at $5 each. I just think it's weird. Food is definitely on the pricier side for what you get. I guess overall you're paying for the experience and the mixed drinks, and those are pretty good. read more

Ok....it's one thing to love this place for it's atmosphere as a 'Speakeasy'. Another to love it for it's superb selection of bourbons, rums and other libations. Even more, the side food items offered as accompaniments to the liquor, but sometimes the names of drinks conjure up something beyond that! Here's a sequence of photos I took on a recent visit. Visited Volstead on a lark during a business trip. It was the perfect spot after a long day of dealing with tough customers. The whiskey selection is incredible. Between my colleague and I we had four of their signature cocktails and none of them disappointed. Food was great as well. We had the Thai Chicken Pizza. No regarts. I was at Eagan Outlets and curious what there was around the area for a craft cocktail/cocktail bar. Volstead popped up and it looked intriguing. First off I will say that I'm glad google maps gave me direction after I arrived, stating to enter Burger and Bottles, and then through the "Red Door", very helpful. I stopped in with 2 other people just for a couple fun drinks and maybe an appetizer, and boy was I not let down. It was not busy at the time we visited (early afternoon), and was sat promptly by the polite hostess at the front. We got seated at a booth facing the impressive bar wall full of different liquors, that along with the other décor made it feel very warm. The waiter was friendly and provided information on some of the drinks I asked about. I had 2 drinks, 3 between the other 2 people I was with and we all said we would have no problem ordering them again. We ordered the Duck Wontons because I love that style of Wonton and it did not disappoint! Came out golden brown and full of flavor. My only gripe is that it should come with 4 or even 5 total Wontons, not 3. I will gladly stop back in when I'm in the area. read more

Enjoyed this little speakeasy space. If you drive up only to see Burgers and Bottles, don't worry, you're in the right place. The space is dark and loud, like you could have probably expected an actual speakeasy of the 1920's to be. The loudness actually got to be a bit of a hindrance to conversation, but didn't stop my group from having a good time. They have an extensive drink list. If you're not sure what you might like, ask your server for a recommendation. I tried the Sideswipe (a different name for a Sidecar). That drink was superb. Also tried a few different apps, but my favorite was the pimento dip. Would love to come back in the summer and enjoy an evening outside. read more

A cute little Speakeasy in the back of Burgers and Bottles in Eagan. The first thing you notice is the wall of whiskey. Quite impressive! The room is small and a bit crowded but I have never felt "in the way" like you can at other similar bars/speakeasy's. Seating is first come first served so be prepared to wait for a table at peak hours. We have not waited more than 5-10 minutes for a spot, but we also tend to avoid peak hours. The food is solid. We've gotten the steak bites, fries, and burger. All are good choices. It's a mountain of fries, so be prepared to share! Cocktails are amazing! We have tried about 1/3 of the concoctions on the main menu and asked for a few off menu. All are very tasty. Be prepared for ingredients that you are not entirely familiar with, like Trakaakal, Nixta, Wovka, and the list goes on. The Banana Hammock is awesome but very spirit forward, not a fruity drink. Patagonia Parley is more of the sweet side and also a good one. They do smoked Old Fashioned's if you're into that. They also have live music frequently which is an beautiful touch for the space. read more

This place was supremely cool when it opened. I know the speakeasy trend has come and gone, but I do still enjoy coming here. It makes for a great work happy hour or business meeting location if you come between 3:30pm and 5pm during the week. Casual vibes, pleasantly dim lighting, library bookshelf wall of liquor complete with ladder, bartenders with leather aprons and mustaches and flat caps, industrial design. My favorite drink I've ever had came from here - the "The Devil Made Me Do It." It's a mezcal drink with tobacco bitters that tastes exactly like smoking cherry cavendish pipe tobacco. It's served in a flask hidden in a dugout in a Bible, with an empty glass with a large ice cube on the side. Amazing taste and super fun presentation. Their other drinks have been good as well. They also have 4 pages of Whiskey's available, for the connoisseur in your life. Servers are helpful and knowledgeable. Food is expensive but delicious - my wife and I love the cheese curds which are served with a house-made jam dipping sauce. Their charcuterie board is also very good. I feel like every time I go, there is a different policy on whether a reservation is required or not (or even an option). Because apparently it is one of the strongest drinks on the menu so don't bounce in hoping for some soft banana delight. The ambiance and look and feel of this speak easy is what makes it.
