The interior is modern and inviting, with some fun wallpaper making a statement. We cozied up to the bar during this visit. I will say that bar was a bit sloppy during our visit...bartenders' water bottles cluttering the visible space, bartenders spilling our drinks a bit during delivery, and weird transitions of staff that were a bit distracting. The Espresso Martini was the best item I ordered! Well balanced and the addition of the cold foam really made for an enjoyable sip. Would absolutely return for that one! The bites we ordered had great flavor, but some fell a bit flat when trying to live up to their creative ideas. The Fried Pickles were the best food item: perfectly crispy medallions with two delicious dipping sauces. The "burnt ends" cauliflower are really just roasted cauliflower with BBQ sauce on top, missing out on the umami juiciness of their namesake. Starting my Happy Hour series and Kitchen and Rail in Eagan did not disappoint. The menu is curated, not overwhelming, but still has solid variety -- and the pricing? Very reasonable for the quality and vibe. We ordered the cauliflower burnt ends, fried pickles, and chips & dip. Everything came out flavorful and fresh. The cauliflower especially was a standout -- seasoned well with that perfect texture. The staff was helpful and very informative, which I always appreciate when trying a spot for the first time. The atmosphere gives after-work energy -- a place where you can unwind with coworkers or commune with family and friends. And the background tunes were on point. Sunday brunch was fantastic! I went with a large group for brunch and had a wonderful experience. Our server was helpful and attentive and the food was a hit. Brunch is only offered on Sundays so make sure you plan ahead. Many of the menu offerings are served with their smoked gouda cheesy hash browns which are delectable. They are very cheesy and the perfect comfort food side dish. I ordered the K&R American Breakfast which was a classic. Eggs were exactly how I ordered them and the bacon was crispy. I ordered a side of fruit as an additional side and could skip it in the future. The fruit was fresh but was a very small side for $5 and only had two fruits in it. My spouse had the avocado toast benedict and added a sausage patty. The added protein was an expert idea and would recommend doing if you order this dish. The ambiance and crowds are fantastic, but the food failed to impress, unfortunately. Everything was very hearty with quality ingredients, but the menu lacked that fresh pop of flavor. I was super impressed with the choices on the menu and it was hard to decide! We started with roasted asparagus with bernaise sauce & roasted Brussels sprouts and they were cooked perfectly and so tasty! My friend enjoyed her salmon prepared with miso and served on top of her choice of side, mashed cauliflower. They also have mix n match sliders pulled pork, cheeseburgers, drop pork, and chicken. I had cheeseburgers and they were perfect. The waitstaff was attentive and really nice, they let notices we drank water fast and brought us big glasses and a pitcher! Seen that they had an espresso martini flight on social media and wanted to check it out with a friend. We did make reservations for 4pm, which is when they open for dinner/HH. They were also running a specials menu as well. We found out the flight was a limited time but the waiter told us they can still make a few of the variations for us. I got a raspberry one, tasted like chocolate covered raspberries, very interesting. We did order a few apps (which some were on the hh specials), we got the burnt ends cauliflower, truffle fries and fried pickles. The cauliflower was good, very unique, loved the bbq sauce on it. Fried pickles were also good, light batter, which I love, came with ranch and sriracha mayo (I think). The truffle fries weren't the greatest/my favorite but I'll eat potatoes in any form so I won't complain. Restaurant decor was nice, super cute. Service was great! They've done an impressive job of turning a hole-in-the-wall outdoor mall floorplan into a fancy eatery, I'll say that much. The inside has been decked out with flowery wallpaper and gold-framed paintings, dark wood tables and chairs, and blacked-out ceiling. The refrigerated, on-tap, behind-glass wine bottles are a modern touch that yell "this place is gonna be expensive!" And indeed, so it is. Thankfully my in-laws, who selected the place to have dinner that night, were paying our tab, lol. But when six pieces of cauliflower cost like $8... goodness gracious. I went for the $30 scallops because who can turn down an opportunity to enjoy scallops and I got FOUR, which included no sides. Yowzers. Trust, I won't be back until my in-laws come back to visit us next year... Thankfully, I'm a small little dude and so one and a half pieces of cauliflower and four scallops plus half the "better than sex" cake were enough for me to feel pleasantly full. (It would have been nice to know the cake had coffee in it though... I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't much care for the taste of coffee, plus I swear my dreams were all extra-vivid all night as a result of neurons firing, pfft.) But anyway, if you can afford this place in this economy, firstly congratulations, what's that like? but secondly, it's a great experience. Our waiter was very friendly, attentive, and clearly interested in our experience being a good one, which I really appreciated. He didn't phone it in one iota. Our food was ready promptly and it all tasted really good! They had a fun seasonal menu for fall, which likely means they swap it out four times a year, making it somewhere you'll want to come back. My mother-in-law loved her bison chili that was part of the seasonal menu. My father-in-law tried the duck and wolfed it down, so safe to assume he liked his. The only portion that was large randomly was my husband's sandwich-- at least someone got leftovers for later! Haha. Anyway, big recommend from me. Pricing is the only unfavorable factor. Our experience here was mixed. We visited on a Saturday at suppertime. The food was spectacular--out fast and delicious. Our service, however, was shoddy. Our server was incredibly harried, always out of breath and abrupt as she infrequently checked on us, and we were never asked if we wanted more drinks. We speculated that she had too many tables to manage and was just having a rough night. But onto the positive aspect: the food! We shared Kitchen and Rail's famous meatballs as an appetizer. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, the sauce thick and savory. My husband had the Vietnamese Pork Belly, which he found delicious and pleasantly spicy, while I had the perfectly cooked Pan Seared Duck. The amount of food was great, too, filling without being overkill. We're not sure if we would come here again, as there are several other restaurants in the immediate area that look interesting. I made reservations and couldn't get the time I wanted so I chose the 5pm time slot. It ended up being perfect. It was happy hour until 6 so we ended up getting a reserve glass of wine for $7 while we chatted. For dinner, I chose the Blacked Roughy with root veggies and it was delicious. Loved the bit of crisp on the fish and the veggies were a nice contrast in texture to the fish. My meal came to the table nice and hot. The others at our table also thought their meals were delicious. I stole a few fries from Husband and they were amazing. I'd come back just for the fries and happy hour but I can't wait to try another option on the menu. We started off with the Salsa Di Parma, which did not look like the pics from the restaurant at all--it was mostly shredded cheese with spices and a small amount of olive oil at the bottom of the cup that you had to dig for. Good flavor, but still, not as their pictures depict. My husband had the butter chicken, which he really enjoyed, and he offered me a bite and I agreed with him that it was delicious. I went with the pork belly slider and small caesar salad. The slider was tasty, but I can't say when I've ever had a caesar salad that was so bland; their dressing needs a lot of work. If there was a manager, I didn't see one. The workers just didn't seem like they cared. They huddled on the far side of the bar, near the hallway leading to the restrooms. This was the second time I've visited Kitchen and Rail and it did not disappoint! We had a reservation for that evening but decided to go early and sit at the bar. We shared the smoked salmon dip with ritz crackers, which was a perfect way to start our meal. It came with plenty of crackers to finish the dip, so you didn't have to ask for more later. For our entrees, we shared dry rub wings, a small Caesar salad and a burger slider. Even though we shared some small plates, it filled us up completely! The prices are very moderate, considering the high end feel of the restaurant. The wings even came with a damp towel for messy fingers! We were very impressed and are looking forward to coming again in the summer when we can sit and enjoy the patio. read more

When I showed my phone displaying 5:12 they said it was only 10 minutes. Despite several tables being empty they said they were all reserved. I could not believe the arrogance and contempt in the hostesses attitude towards us. My wife and children were shocked and embarrassed to be treated so poorly. We've been many times to the Eagan location. Easily more than 10 times and it's usually awesome. Tonight was subpar at best. Service was rushing us and food was not great. My husband got the filet mignon sandwich and I had the lemon piccata. The sandwich had a tough tendon and the pasta was about a 1/3 of a breast buried under overcooked noodles. Caesar salad was all lemon and no creaminess at all. We realize that the food can't be 100% every time. But this was nowhere near our usual. On top of it all my husband had to wait until nearly halfway through his meal until we were checked on so he could order a glass of wine. And the service did not check to see if we were interested in coffee or dessert but instead came over and asked if we were ready to pay. As Eagan residents it will be hard to continue recommending this location after a night like this. read more

My wife and I went here for brunch recently, and I found the product to be a lot better than the happy hour or dinner product. Pricing was reasonable, or at least in line with other offerings. The servers were helpful. The food and drinks were great. I had the avocado toast eggs Benedict with hashbrowns, and my wife had chicken and waffles. We enjoyed them thoroughly. I paired that with the Carajillo cocktail which was excellent. I'd say it's like a grown-up take on an espresso martini. My wife opted for the N/A "Coffee and Jam" beverage, which sits somewhere in the coffee Negroni space while also being completely different. I thought they did a good job of making an N/A cocktail still have depth and interest. Reservation wasn't needed to get a table at noon on a Sunday. read more

The service was excellent and the atmosphere pleasant but the food was hit and miss. I had the Vietnamese Pork Belly dish and the pork was overcooked and dry. The rice was basic white rice with no sauce so also dry. My daughter had the Norwegian salmon it also was overcooked and dry. My other daughter and son in law had their version of the "Big Mac" and it was excellent. Finally our last guest my daughters boyfriend had the MORT sandwich which had tons of meat but it was dry and crumbly. With very little effort the meals could have been amazing. Proper cooking and just some sauce for the rice. We overlooked it all simply because our server was the best!! The vibe was good, the server was knowledgeable and helpful and very pleasant. The menu just did not fit my taste. I struggled to find something I wanted to order but there were many choices and my friends had no problem finding options. We split the bbq cauliflower, Caesar salad & salmon dip. They were all fine. My dining companions each ordered the miso Salmon and enjoyed it. I got another side of cauliflower. I think it is worth a try especially if you like supper club type food. What a treasure we found.... We are here in town with friends and came for lunch. The food is delicious with so many unique items to choose from. The Thicc Bacon was so good and a favorite of the group. We also enjoyed the Coffee Press and Old Fashion drinks. In town for a family event, we asked our son for a recommendation for an upscale contemporary bar & grill. His immediate response was Kitchen and Rail. Advanced reservations are required around happy hour, and we claimed ours. Drink specials, and since we were at the edge of H-Hour, we ordered both special items from that menu as well as the full menu. In the picture you'll see part of one of my orders... The portion of sautéed Frog legs is six, however these were so very delicious looking and the scent of garlic butter, flour dusted legs was to great to resist...so I didn't. Coming to my senses, I proclaimed "I M U S T get a photo before there's nothing to show!" Happy hour seating at just before 5pm was still available and we had Happy hour wings (3 HUGE) and sliders as dinner! A great experience! Broccoli rabe was served with the thick stalks so half of the order was inedible unless you are a goat. Prices are way too high. Service bad. Food ok. Ambiance ok. Ordering via the phone was smooth and pick-up was also smooth. However, the food is downright disappointing. For 4 adults, we ordered the French Fries Dip Trio, the Wedgie Salad with chicken, The Famous Filet Mignon Slider, K&R Cheeseburger Slider, 2 What The Cluck Sliders, and Nana's Meatballs. All around, the portions were very small -- the french fries were a laughable amount. They were served with 3 dips which all tasted like store-bought salad dressing. There were enough for each of us to have ~5. The wedgie salad was served with half a chicken breast for $5 which was also laughable. The what the cluck slider was very meh in terms of flavor. It was a slider, so on the smaller side and to be expected, but flavor was lacking. Nana's meatballs were good, but nothing to write home about. And, the K&R cheeseburger slider was 1 of the only decent items we ordered! The sauce they served with it was good. However, the filet mignon on The Famous Filet Mignon Slider was extremely tender which is what saved them from getting a 1-star review. Back for round two! I tried the burger of the month which was similar to a Big Mac. The fries are the "zesty" type of fries. The burger was delicious and was paired with Big Mac sauce. I appreciated the chunky pickles in the sauce. The slab of onion was grilled and made the sandwich. I am an onion lover so this was not too much for me, but may be for some. The fries weren't hot for my order or my friend's order, so we sent those back. They were replaced pretty quick - hot and fresh. We appreciated the attention to service. Enjoyed the flourless chocolate cake. It was light and fluffy. My chocoholic friend is a purist and doesn't like to mix fruit with chocolate, but she loved this as well!‍ This habanero chicken sandwich really isn't worth mentioning. I love almost every entrée I have tried at this place over the past two years. I love how most things are served small plate style, so you can try a lot of things in one sitting especially with a small group. Their burger sliders and steak sliders are always a favorite, and I love their fries and dips. They have great wine and drink selections, and they always have a few original seasonal specials on the menu. Decent gluten free options. The only thing I don't love about this place is that it is one big open room, so it gets extremely loud if you are there during busy hours, so it's not ideal if you want a more intimate dinner. That said, if you are lonely, and looking for a place to mingle, the bar here always feels social and upbeat. read more
