Stopped into the Narrows for lunch and a beer and had a good meal. I ordered the Avocado Ranch & Bacon Burger which was very good but almost impossible to eat with my hands due to everything slipping out. I also had a bite of the Shady Island Chicken Sandwich which was also good. The staff was nice and there was a good selection of beer. Worth a try if you're in the neighborhood. read more

This local pub has a great selection of beers on tap and some pretty good food too. The revolving tap list is on the chalk board. The food is better than average bar food. Great sandwiches, I tried the small plate reubens and they were delicious. They have daily specials which are also on the chalkboard. I think that they have live music here too. Saturday night, live music, loud and busy. We got there at 7:00 and there were no tables to be found. Bar, shoulder to shoulder. However, around 8:00, the place opened up a bit. The waitstaff was great. very friendly and, once we got a table, attentive. Food was good. I'd recommend checking it out. Popped in for lunch on Saturday for my first time ever at the Narrows, which is crazy based on how much my friends dig this place. It did not disappoint. We arrived at 1:00p and were immediately seated at a nice high top. I love the decor of this place, which I would call cool eclectic. Our server took our drink orders and quickly returned with our beverages. My dining partners ordered the smothered burrito w/pork and the "Local" burger. I started with a bowl ($1.50 more than a cup) of lobster bisque, which I thought was a safe bet as several menu items contained lobster. The generous bowl was incredible....so much lobster and sherry flavors; however, it did lack any chunks of lobster meat. I then ordered the Prime Rib French dip sandwich, which came with nice seasoned skin-on chips. The sandwich had a very generous amount of shaved prime rib, carmalized onions, mozzarella cheese on a fresh garlic butter grilled hoagie roll. A great sandwich. Although not really needed, the au jus dipping sauce did not live up to this sandwich's hype. It was very watery. I mentioned this to our server, who went into the kitchen to try it. She agreed and returned with a fresh cup that was much, much better. All of us really enjoyed the food and the great service we received. Can't wait to return to try other menu items. read more

Moved to the area and came in with a friend for lunch on Friday. Great bar staff. Had the lobster bisque and the grilled cheese and lobster sandwich and it was amazing. Clean and decorated nicely. My wife enjoyed the shrimp wrap and I thought the "brisket tacos" were good. Although, it was gyro meat with a tzatziki sauce. Then why the 1-star review you ask? Their wine list is only on the wall and with no prices. My wife selected the Justin Cabernet thinking that it's a low-cost cab when bought in a store. Imagine our surprise when we get the bill and see a charge of $18 per glass!! Talk about inflation gouging, Narrows management should be ashamed as you can buy that BOTTLE of wine for $20 at Total Wine. read more

Service sucks. The food is hit and miss. You can tell it's different people cooking it cause some days it's made fantastic and most not. I was in today and had a waitress who checked on me once to bring me my beer and I sat there for 45 minutes to order food and walked out after paying. I had a "regular" push me aside to fit her husband next to her at the bar after they brought a chair from the side tables. There needs to me more of a focus on not serving "regulars or locals or friends" with better service and more attention. The Narrows s a wonderful local bar that we are lucky enough to frequent since our boat slip is close by. It is a place where everyone knows each other, but even as non locals we feel very much at home. The people who work here and local patrons are wonderful. They have great live music (I believe every day except Monday), pull tabs, and a Sunday Morning Meat Raffle! The beer selection is solid.and we love their Bloody's on those early morning weekends. The food isn't spectacular, but very good. I love their burgers and haven't been disappointed. We have had breakfast here a few times and really like their Biscuits and Gravy as well as their Jalapeño Bacon. Great local place with much to offer. Give The Narrows a shot. read more

Forgot to take pictures.. ‍ I got the impossible burger! Yum!! They did a great job! The burger comes with your choice of side. I got the kettle chips really good with tasty seasonings. The burger comes with lettuce, onions, cheese, pickles and a special ranch sauce. They ask you how you want it medium or etc. Totally caught me off guard being veggie for life and never having had a real burger you never get asked how you want your veggie burger... My husband got the burger that comes on the pretzel bun and he said it was one of the best burgers he has had in a long time. He also raved about the fries, which are thick cut and quiet tasty I did steel a bite. Service was fast and friendly and they checked in a to make sure we were happy with our food. I think the bar area looks really nice but I am going to review the restaurant since we were here for dinner. We decided to eat here since we haven't tried it. It was a nice day so we decided to eat out at the patio. The menu was what you would expect---pub food. After almost 30 minutes we got our check...but we never got our food. I told the waitress when she handed me the check "um...we haven't even gotten our food yet" and she was flustered and realized that she had meant to close out the table next to us, but used our order instead of theirs. I suspect that this meant that our order was cancelled or forgotten. All in all it took 50 minutes to get our food. There was a table who sat down at least 10 minutes after us and got their food 10 minutes before us. I wasn't pleased and it made me even more suspicious that our order got canceled or forgotten. The waitress made a joke that she tried to charge our food to the next table to pay and it just made me more annoyed. She also said that the set up outside was different than inside so that was how the mistake was made. Fine, mistakes happen and I am able to forgive them if the food is good. We got our dinners (again after 50 minutes and my kids were hungry and grumpy as was I), and my burger was room temperature. It also was over done (I ordered it medium) and I could barely taste the meat since the patty was thing and over cooked. My daughter also said her dinner was room temperature. I don't even know what happened. Was it left out for a while because it was forgotten? I don't know but it was really disappointing. I think an acknowledgment that our order was messed up due to the mistake made earlier would have gone really far. And a sincere apology. Also maybe comping our drinks (which was a beer and lemonade so not breaking the bank) for the inconvenience would have been nice. We waited almost an hour to get our food and it really wasn't very busy. I rarely give one star because I feel bad leaving them unless the service people are rude. They weren't rude, but it wasn't the best. I think this would be a good place to get a few drinks and some apps and not a family dinner based on what happened today. read more

The only place on the western side of Lake Minnetonka to hear good music on a regular basis. Musical focus is on Blues and they often serve up solid acts. Menu is decent but hasn't changed in several years -- a freshen up would be welcome. The lobster tacos are not to be missed. In the winter this place is PACKED. Other seasons are also good. There's ample parking in back -- an Orono City public lot. Be warned that the Orono Police Department camps in the lot and follows cars that leave during drinking hours. IOW, don't be a fool and drink and drive, they're right to bust you and they take that responsibility VERY seriously. Also, other than the first row of spots closest to the building, every parking space is public property and the city (Orono) has made it illegal to park there overnight -- a moronic, unjust tax on people smart enough to get a sober ride home rather than drive. As an Orono resident I appreciate the desire to keep drunks off the road but this policy is abusive, moronic and counterproductive for the case of 'public safety.' read more

For me, the chicken alfredo is comfort food bliss. They also have a nice Saturday brunch menu. I've been here many times and I am often impressed by the musical talent that awaits at this casual and down-home bar. The Narrows attracts a bit of an older crowd and not worth a long trek across the Cities. However, if you are in the Lake Minnetonka area and want good tunes and a laid-back atmosphere, visit The Narrows. It is refreshing to have a place where bands actually sing and play their own instruments. The front is easy to miss on the main road. Looks can be deceiving. Do yourself a favor, grab a bite at Narrows sometime. Let me tell you why. My parents began building a house on Lake Minnetonka this year, so they'd been exploring good places to eat when they stumbled across the Narrows Saloon earlier this year. With construction currently happening on one entrance, and a hard-to-miss entrance on the other side, this place is the best kept secret of the locals. The environment is rich, music plays in the evenings, people are friendly, it's just very down-to-earth. There's a great craft beer selection on tap, I usually find myself getting a local IPA or double IPA, or a beer from the famous Fort Collins Odell's. Speaking to the food, we usually get the nachos with chicken as an appetizer. What more can I say, it's loaded with cheese, jalapeños, chicken, and other amenities, etc. I've gotten a variety of sandwiches and entrees that I love. Something along the lines of a Cajun chicken sandwich had a nice spicy zest to it. Similarly, I am a huge fan of blackened fish, and their Mahi Mahi is unreal. Both the sandwich and the fish tacos have blown me away on separate occasions. Plus, you can't beat the prices. The fish tacos had this amazing mango salsa on top with a nice spicy kick. I have to be clear, this is a review on SERVICE, not food. Beware of Lizzy, the waitress!!! As always, the Lobster BLT was awesome! But since Jimmy left us, service has been slipping. Myself and a couple who are my closest friends rode out for dinner last night. We were craving the Lobster BLTs, and they were awesome. The service was atrocious! Our server, Lizzy, was doing fine till...her friends were seated in her section. This was just before she stopped by our table to make sure the BLTs were right and asked if there as anything else she could get us. Myself and my BF both ordered a Deschutes Fresh Squeezed as we had started with water. Off Lizzy went to place the order and then straight to her friends table to chat. Being as we were seated in a position where we could watch every order of drinks leaving the bar we saw our beers get poured and set at the rail waiting for Lizzy. And sit is what they did. Drink after drink went out as we watched Lizzy chat with her friends, take a food order, and then return to her friends to chat more. As out beers sat and sat. Finally I got up, and went to get them myself, since I like my beer cold and food warm, and as we waited for Lizzy, our beers was getting warm and food cold. Then when she stopped next by our table and she either did not even realize she had forgotten the beers, or simply didn't care since she made no mention nor apology. And as if this was not bad enough, once we finished, we asked for our tabs. She brought them out and there was a charge for my married friends for having split the sandwich?!? I have NEVER been in a restaurant that charges to spit a meal! But, even worse, my friends, whose tab was $43.44 paid with $45.00. Now Lizzy, promptly took his money, and never returned. She simply kept the $1.56 assuming it was hers. Now granted, it was not much money, but she had not asked the most standard service question when taking cash from a customer, do you need change? Lizzy simply ASSUMED the change was hers. This did not go over well at our table. And when we did get her attention, and my friend asked Lizzy where his change was she looked at him in surprise with the air of entitlement her generation has and said, "Oh, you wanted that back? It was only a dollar and some change." My friend answered yes. She returned with $1....not even the correct change! So, on a $68 tab, since my tab was $25, Lizzy got herself $0.56 tip. I hope this is not the new standard for service at the Narrows. Young waitresses with the air of entitlement, shooting attitude at longtime customers as the provide some of the worst service this yelper has ever experienced. So BEWARE of LIZZY! read more

My husband and I stopped in, saw it on Yelp and thought we'd give it a try. I think this place has potential but was a bit disappointed. Tried the Jambalaya and Quesadillas and absolutely failed in the flavor dept. First time I tried salting a quesadilla because I was so desperate for some flavor. Salsa tasted like straight tomato, no flavor whatsoever. Jambalaya has a little heat but no flavor. Menu looked awesome and we were so hopeful and I think if they make some minor adjustments it could be good but it's not there yet! Just a note on the service, our waitress was excellent!! read more
