Rum Row Tiki Bar: After the meal we ventured down the staircase to try out the speakeasy cocktails. Years of Darkness ("Old-Fashioned" - Larry Cumberbatch - 1938) | 1938 Black Pot Still Jamaican Rum, Lightly Aged Pot Still Jamaican Rum, Pimento Dram, Petite Canne Shrum, Xocolatl Mole Bitters, and Angostura Bitters

I cannot believe that a place like this is almost in my own backyard! I have fallen in love with tiki bar culture in the last couple of years but sadly Minnesota doesn't have much of a scene. But Rum Row aims to change all that. Before I dive in, keep in mind that this place is in it's infancy. Staff and wait times are slow and the kinks are getting worked out. Give it time and it will all fall into place, if anything, this place is headed in the right direction. The first thing this place gets right is that the bar is "hidden" as all good tiki grottos should be. This one finds itself in the basement of Dangerfields. After you descend the stairs, you are transported to a dark, dimly lit room with palm and bamboo lining the walls (and also fake plastic brick, ha), but it really sets the mood. The only bright light comes from the bar and huge rum display behind it. For rum selection, they have a lot to choose from ranging from all parts of the world. The drink menu is composed of many classic tiki drinks from famous curators such as Trader Vic, Don the Beachcomber, etc. As a tiki nut, I recognized many of the sources where these recipes came from, somebody did their homework here. I tried the Three Dots and a Dash and it was a perfect tiki cocktail. Not too sweet, layered, and detailed in the sips. I took a peek behind the bar and was satisfied to see that many of the syrups appear to be homemade and the juices fresh pressed. Nothing replaces the taste of fresh lime juice and homemade orgeat. I give this place 5 stars because of the authenticity and experience they aim to create. It is on the right path to success. The only thing this place is missing is the ability to purchase tiki mugs and barware with your drink or have exclusive merchandise to purchase separately. As a tiki collector, it is like not having a gift shop attached to a tourist attraction. I want my shirt (er, tiki mug) after my trip has concluded. If you are looking for just a bar, this place may not be for you. This is a TIKI bar so that means a certain culture and methodology is followed to bring the guests a certain experience just like what you might find at a speakeasy or pub bar. This place is not a pub, speakeasy, or hometown bar, it is a TIKI bar. If you are looking for those types of bars, the one upstairs in the restaurant will be to your liking. Drinks may take longer because there is a lot of steps to making them, just give it time and relax. You are on vacation time now.

I think this might be one of my favorite spots for drinks & a bite yet. With a smaller (and more carribean & only rum) menu, you still have a handful of delicious items to choose from. I wish I would've let my phone eat first because I promise you I would've had so many more pictures. Here are the main things you need to know: Perfect spot for groups - why go downtown to a bar when you can have the experience of one right in Shakopee? Tons of seating in the basement floor with a bit of a speakeasy feel. While some people might just come here to drink, I highly recommend grabbing a bite, too. You'll end up staying much longer! We ordered a LOT, but here are my "eh" experiences: The Cubano - dry, too much condiments to try to liven up the taste. Sushi taco trio - I just should've known, let's be honest. I wouldn't get it again. Nope. Here are my "YES, I want more" experiences: Jerk chicken skewers - seriously so damn good, felt like I was in Jamaica again. All of the flavor combinations were on point. The blind tiger - yes, yes, and yes. We ordered 3 batches and I ate almost all of them every single time. Calypso chicken wings - simple and to the point, not too outlandish for your picky eater and a crowd please for the table.

Meh. What a let down. Unfortunately we had two very lackluster experiences in back to back weeks with Shakopee House and then Rum Row Tiki Bar. I mentioned in my other review it's possible that some of this has changed since we went as we went within the first month or so of opening but we haven't felt like venturing out to try again. Will we eventually? Probably, but it's certainly not on the short list of places we think of going when we want to stop out for a drink or two. We stopped by after attending an event nearby and thought why not have a few drinks for a night cap? As always, the parking lot is a mess. I won't go into this too much, but just know if you're going to be swinging by here or Shakopee house to be prepared to circle the parking lot and/or park in an adjacent lot and walk over. Both times we visited someone had blocked off one of the lanes to the other parking lot effectively making it useless. So annoying, stressful, and chaotic. Never a way you want to start/end your evening. Now the good things: the decor and remodel of this place is incredible! I could look at this stuff for hours. The idea of the hidden bar is fun too - unless you don't like the booze they are serving (which I don't, I think it was a tequila bar) then you can't partake in it which was a little bit of a let down but I get it. The drinks were good! However, if you're going to call yourself a tiki bar, I need these drinks to be served in tiki glasses, over garnished, and obnoxious! Tiki bar's are supposed to be an experience! Unfortunately that's lacking a bit here. Things to be improved upon: service!! Ugh, we drew the short end of the stick when we arrived for our night cap, it was very clear to us that our server was new new, not inexperienced new, flat out first day new. We saw her once, and then when we paid our bill. We had bartenders/hosts/and other servers take our drinks (the two sets we could get) and deliver our drinks, and remove our drinks. I kid you not, we were there for an extended period of time simply because no one checked on us and our server was no where to be found for us to flag her down. We did see a handful of other servers who were simply killing it, so we could've had better service but unfortunately did not. On top of this, they put us at a two top high top near the BATHROOM. Like right next to the bathroom doors. Talk about a mood killer. I'd recommend relocating that table or getting rid of it all together. Overall, meh meh meh. We were very disappointed in this one.

Tiki bar We had the Knickerbocker, Years of Darkness, and Batten Down the Hatches for cocktails. The drinks were all winners, if you are unsure trust the assistance of the servers. They were spot on with their suggestions. We had the Cubano and the Papas Rellenas for food. The Cubano was what you would expect and was good, the papas rellenas while good were just lacking in the wow factor and were missing the crispy exterior I was expecting. Overall great place for drinks it's top notch, for food it's good. It's pretty dark in here so we did the get any good food pics. It shares the lot with the upstairs restaurant so it can look packed and still have tons of room downstairs.

Wow, this was a nice surprise I had no idea this was here or had this kinda potential! They did a beautiful job with the remodel. It's totally tiki! The entrance to this speakeasy alone is filled with so many details. It's a fantastic way to feel like you could escape the winter snow. The service was charming even though there was a wait. It was a busy place and we did not make any kind of reservation. But once seated we were well taken care of. THE DRINKS!! They were so fun and I have NEVER had my drink served with a banana created to look like a dolphin before. That was amazing. Still feel I got a full portion even tho there was a dolphin in my cup. The Rum selection is massive. The drink was made very well and excited to try others. I think this is a great spot to grab some drinks after a meal upstairs at Shakopee House even tho they served quite a few appetizer options there. I am so happy Shakopee has added place like this!

Bar moved to back of tequila butcher. You can order from their menu or tequila butcher's menu. Vibes are not tiki bar but drinks are 10/10. The bar is a nice place to sit back with friends. It's not psycho suzie but it's definitely worth a visit. If you like rum this place has amazing stiff rum drinks. We ended up getting food from tequila butcher menu and the appetizers were solid. In the summer they have a nice patio as well. It kind of felt like tequila butcher absorbed the tiki bar form shakopee. But not in a bad way. If you need night out with friends or date night this a solid choice. The staff was great and friendly as well.

What a fun place! Set in the basement of The Shakopee House restaurant; it is reminiscent of a Speak-Easy. Great atmosphere with a Tiki-Bar theme with the largest selection of Rum I have ever seen. The waitstaff were fantastic and really made the experience! Highly recommend you stop in for the experience!

Love this new speakeasy! Fun. Friendly. Great ambiance. Great waitstaff. Feels like a place you'd only find in a downtown area. Highly recommend.

First off, let me just say, anything, and I do mean ANYTHING is an improvement to Dangerfields. That being said, Rum Row is actually a really cute little basement tiki bar. The atmosphere is very laid back, and the lighting and mood is low key and pleasant. It is loud, as sound just bounces off the old brick, and it's a little hard to hear your conversation, but hey, it's a bar. Drinks are top notch. Fantastic flavors that really punch you in the mouth. They definitely don't skimp the pours, and you know you're drinking alcohol for sure. Food is just ok. We had the wings, Cubano Sandwich, Ropa Vieja, and the Jerk Chicken Skewers. Flavors were all good, but nothing to write home about. Wings are rubbery, probably because they're smoked and then reheated by the taste and texture. A quick bath in the fryer would do wonders for them. Plantains were the highlight, but everything else was just meah. But again, it's a bar. For a fun date night, or a nice way to end the night, I can definitely see this as a passable drink spot. Just maybe eat first.

Well second time going back to check for improvement and I am left with more disappointment. The novelty of having a Tiki drink served in a Tiki Mug is quintessential to a positive Tiki experience, I asked to have my drink served in a Tiki mug but told that could be arranged if a card was put on file in case Tiki Mugs walked away. This is bizarre, understandable but bizarre and definitely negatively impacted the experience.

The wait at the table was longer than we anticipated but luckily for us, there were some bar seats available. The bartender at the moment was Cameron. He gave us the rundown on the food and drinks and made several recommendations. We started off the evening with the Don Corlone. It was very tasty and also an Andorran Martini. Both drinks were delightful and were semi-sweet but not too sweet. The mixture of the Don Corlione had a perfect blend of citrus and sweetness. We then ordered the pastry puff poppers and they were amazing. The sauce complemented the pastry puffs and the filling left you wanting more. To finish the night we ordered tiramisu, cheesecake, and some bubbles. Thank you Cameron for the amazing service and experience we hope to be back again soon.

Considering we wanted earlier and we took the reservation time they gave us, it was disappointing to not get to eat. The drinks were really fun (bartender was killin' it) and dessert was included in the kitchen so not available but did manage to finagle one of the 4 options and we got the strawberry cheesecake (friends not a strawberry fan but we were hungry) because they wouldn't serve the others or they were out. Really poor planning for such a busy 'date night' weekend. I loved the speakeasy feel and will go back for that. Hopefully we'll get to eat there the next time. Experience a plus. Food a minus Staff, doing their best Bartender - was a mover and a Shaker was definitly on their A game.

They described it as an upscale dive bar which I laughed at for sure, but when I went I would say that exactly how I would describe it. It's dark and moody, but very funky and hip with the neon walls and lights. It's very small, behind the new Public Domain space. Seems like the hostesses direct people waiting on a spot there to Neon Tiger while they wait. We were able to snag one of the last tables after we ordered (there are about 5 tables for 2, and 3 standing bar tables from what I remember). The menu isn't large - it has a couple of beers, some basic cocktails and lists spirits and mixers. The only new and exciting thing on the menu is their slushy cocktails. Good news is that this place isn't very pricey, but the portions aren't huge. My small espresso martini was $12, my boyfriend's beer didn't quite look like a full pint but was only $4. We did laugh that it was called Tiger piss. The espresso martini is good, but beware there's no actual cream liquor in the drink - they seem to squirt some foamy concoction from an unmarked squeeze bottle in a fridge on top, which was interesting. Overall, would come back here if I was bar hopping for cocktails - but wouldn't go out of my way to try it again. Great idea to send people here while waiting for Public Domain!
