As a homemade pasta lover, Broaders' Pasta Bar is it! We visited on a Saturday night so we knew knew there would be a wait. Note, they do NOT take reservations so it's first come, first serve. Our original wait time was around 1 hour but it ended up only being 35 minutes. Parking is quite limited but due to eating later in the evening, we were able to get a parking spot in their lot. Broaders' has both patio and indoor seating. Being the middle of winter, we sat inside. It's not an overly large restaurant so be prepared to wait during busier meal times (like dinner on the weekends). Our waitress was very nice, answered our questions, and helped us select the perfect wine. Shortly after ordering our wine, they brought out a complimentary bread basket which was delicious! We asked for butter and more of the foccaccia because it was SO good. For our mains, we got the Greek Salad, Ravioli Di Zucca, and Spaghetti Con Polpette. WOW! I don't have a single complaint. The greek salad was flavorful with all the mixed vegetables and dressed perfectly. The Ravioli Di Zucca was buttery and delicious and the Spaghetti Con Polpette was probably the best spaghetti and meatballs we've ever had. Somehow we had room for dessert and opted for the Tiramisu. The pasta here is SO good! I cannot wait to come back. I stopped by with a couple of friends during restaurant week. We came for lunch on a Sunday. It wasn't super busy, but I've heard that this place can fill up pretty quickly. They also don't take reservations so that's something to be aware of. I appreciate that they have both carafes and bottles of wine. Sometimes you need more than a glass of wine, and less than a bottle. I ordered the gorgonzola beet risotto and a Caesar salad. We stopped in here on one of the snowstorm nights and enjoyed a couple bottles of wine and some delicious food. Anything you order here is never a mess, because everything is amazing. We came to Broders for their After 8 dinner menu for a little date night. We ate outside on the patio and it was so nice, cozy and felt like we were on vacation. Our service was great and the food came out fast and everything was made fresh, we were very impressed! Broders is a neighborhood staple, located at Penn and 50th in south Minneapolis for a very long time. It pains me to say that our recent experience there was disappointing on several levels. The dining room is cold, cramped, and desperately needs updating. Ordering is done at the counter, which is partly blocked by shelving and displays, making it difficult to form a line and know who's next in line to be served. Our food arrived in dribs and drabs. Part of us received their entrees in about 10 minutes, but after 15 minutes, others were still waiting. We approached the counterperson to ask when our food would arrive, and they told us it was rung up as a "to-go" order--despite being given a stanchion with a number to place on our table. Ten minutes later, after most had finished eating, our food finally arrived. While the portions were generous, the plates for the dinner salads were too small. The bread was stacked on top of our food, making it challenging to fork the food without the bread falling onto the table or floor. Bending down to reach the floor in such a cramped space was difficult, which should never be necessary. The chicken parm was eaten quickly. The tomato basil soup was tasty. The Greek (yes, Greek) salad was only average. The Emilia Salad, with greens, prosciutto, onion, pine nuts, and balsamic dressing, was good. Surprisingly, the pizza was considered "awful," likely sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Overall, even though some dishes were excellent, the experience was unpleasant. We loved this meal at Broders! We sat at the bar (actually the hub of the restaurant) and I was surprised that it was comfortable, not crowded, and had a great view of the open kitchen. The service was pleasant, and efficient. My wife had the Fettuccine Alla Bolenaise, which has had before and loved it as much as before. I tried the Fettuccine con pollo ciliegie, which is pasta with chicken, cherries, balsamic vinegar, port wine, herb and garlic mascarponi, and Parmigiano Reggiano. Unlike in last review, the Fettuccine was cooked perfectly. It had a chew, but was not overly firm; a hard trick to pull off! The cherries added a sweetness and flavor that was subtle and added to the complexity. We were recommended Broders pasta bar and the hype was a bit underwhelming. We got there at 4 on a Friday and got a table but it filled up quickly, by the time we left there was a long line. Server was friendly, a bit crowded at the tables. For the food, it was good, you can tell it's fresh pasta but wasn't something I was dying to come back for, the bread they serve is just basic with some crackers. The price for the food does not match, it was far more expensive than what I felt we were getting. Per usual, Broder's Pasta Bar delivers! My brother who lives out of state has always wanted to eat here. A table of 8 and no chance for reservations can make it a bit difficult. We showed up for an early dinner and lo and behold we were all able to sit together. The hosts were fantastic and so were the servers. My fave part of this place is the homemade pastas, always cooked to perfection. This place isn't fancy but has such a wonderful friendly, neighborhood feel. We will always be back!! After ordering beverages we were given bread/crackers with oil. We each ordered a Beverage, the Large Caesar salad (to share) & Pasta. We both really LOVED the Drinks & Caesar salad. My pasta (FETTUCCINE ALLA BOLOGNESE) had great flavor but was a very small portion for the price charged. The hubby was not impressed with his (RIGATONI CON SALSICCE) flavor wise at all but he isn't one to complain, to each their own. For those wanting to try Broder's but afraid of the price, I highly recommend making a reservation during one of the Restaurants Weeks that happen throughout the year! During my February 2025 trip, my friend and I enjoyed their 3-course meal for $40 each (excludes drinks). For starters, their Caesar salad was underwhelming and basic, a bit over-saturated with dressing. It was saved with the complimentary bread basket, a good focaccia saves everything. I tried their Fettuccine Con Manzo (Egg Pasta, Beef Tenderloin, Oyster Mushrooms, Tomato, Leeks, Herb & Garlic Mascarpone, Basil) as my main dish, but wished I had ordered my friend's choice; Tagliarini di Locanda di Lupo (Egg Yolk Pasta, Prosciutto di Parma, Truffle Cream). The beef was cooked perfectly, but the rest was mediocre. For dessert we split the flourless chocolate cake (very dense and rich, needed something more to lighten it), and the bar trio (cappuccino brownie, lemon pistachio, strawberry rhubarb) which were good. All in all, a lovely night with good food, but I think I will order differently next time I visit. read more

I love the food at Broders! They don't take reservations which drives me nuts so be prepared to wait.... For awhile. We came at 5pm and waited over an hour for a table so if it's a weekend come early or be prepared to not get seated immediately. The hard part is there's minimal space to wait so you'll stand in the entryway, however, you can get a glass of wine while you wait for a table. They have small plates, various specialty and classic pastas, and a decent wine list. They also did restaurant week recently which was a great deal ($35 for 3 plates) although with how busy this place is they don't need to participate to bring in traffic! The burrata or arancini are always my favorites for appetizers. I get their Tagliorini pasta (#18) for my entree and it is fabulous. Truffle cream sauce and I sub for beef and a vegetable vs the prosciutto. Great, rich flavor and filling! I would normally rate 5 stars, however, the wait + slow service this visit knocked down one. Hunker down and walk around beforehand and your table will be ready before you know it. We got seated at the bar after a wait and each got a glass of red. There was one Pinot Nero (some name similar to that?) red wine on the menu previously that wasn't on it tonight but we still had a decent glass of Cab. I got the #16 linguine with crab and this was so well balanced and flavorful. The flavor of the crab bursts in your mouth so if you like crab you should definitely get this. Circa 2016. I've been a couple times since then, and it still holds true. I just went my second time to Broder's and I had a lot more questions for the staff at my favorite Italian restaurant in the Midwest (large claim but boy is it true!). I loved it and I wanted to put down things I found out about the amazing place. 1. For anyone going their first time, don't be safe. This is a recommendation for anyone who wants to get the "spaghetti and meatballs" or "pasta alfredo" on their classico menu that they have in the corner of their menu (It's likely still great, but you will not be delving into the experience that is Broder's. They have an ever-changing menu (I'll get to that later) that is full of creative blends and delicious tastes! Don't limit yourself. For example, I brought my family here and my boyfriend go the spaghetti as he may have been intimidated and hungry - purely thinking about getting food in his body. He was sorely disappointed when my family all got rich, wonderful entrees and his was as you'd expect with fresh pasta. He stated over the next few months how he was going to get what I got the next time we visited. Which brings me to tip #2. 2. They have an ever changing menu. I spoke to the staff here because they're awesome. I wanted to know how frequently the menu changed. The host said it's not based on season, quarters, weeks, nothing; it's purely up to the chefs that want to add, improvise, or freshen up the menu! And to me, that's really inspiring. I want food that wants to be made because it's what the chefs themselves decided. 3. Wine-o The wine is all Italian (that I noticed) and you can feel free to ask waiters/hosts for recommendations with a dish. They have not let me down. 4. The Wait Now the most important one - Broder's does not take reservations. They are so popular why would they need to? I've waited 1 hour-1.5 hours for a seat and every time it's been worth it. It always is. If you're claustrophobic, go to Terzo to sit and have some wine or beer at the bar. It makes for a much more relaxing wait! The biggest tip we adhere to now is to go as close to opening as we can, 5/5:30 range, but now I believe it's open during lunch! I hope this helps people who haven't gone yet and might want to try this spot! read more

We had a group of 10 for a birthday celebration so we got there early to get our name down as they don't have much space for larger groups, they do not take reservations. It worked out perfect, glad we arrived 45 minutes early or we would not have been able to be seated all together. The menu is large and every plate that went by us looked fantastic. Had a tough time deciding what to order. They brought out 3 very nummy bread/cracker baskets with olive oil that were delicious and addicting! I had heard all their pasta here is home made.
