This place is awesome! Located near the 44th and France shopping area, it's ultra convenient. (Tip: street parking can be a little bit tricky if there's snow, but there is a lot right across the street.) It's a very pretty establishment that brings together the classic and the modern and feels both comfortable and classy. The food is great and perfect for the aforementioned snow: it's pure comfort. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were unique and delicious. Mostarda, candied almonds, and blue cheese, with beautifully caramelized sprouts? It hits sweet, piquant, bitter, and savory along with all the textures. It's a must-try and a definite contender for top treatment of Brussels sprouts. For our second side, we got the tomato sugo, which was a very satisfying starter. Deep, rich tomato flavor, the perfect level of salt and herbs: you can taste the love and time that went into it. (The focaccia that came with was amazing, but you could totally eat this with a spoon, too.) For my main, I had the red bucatini (yes, I like tomatoes, especially when paired with time). It was absolutely awesome--the pasta was cooked perfectly and was the perfect shape for the sauce. The sauce was great. The chili oil added an excellent kick. The garlic breadcrumbs added textural interest and flavor. Again with the perfect, savory made-with-love mouthfuls. I was truly enamored with this one. For dessert, everyone went for the budino, a rich, delicious chocolate-hazelnut pudding topped with a generous mound of silky vanilla whipped cream, crunchy sugar cookie crumbles, and a drizzle of EVOO. It was perfectly balanced and just the right amount. Tying everything together was excellent service from everyone who we encountered. First time at Tosca- the ambiance is very cozy, warm and welcoming. They welcome you with foccacia bread and then we ordered the sugo to pair with it. The sugo was really delicious and garlicy- my only negative is I wish they warmed the bread up that is the only thing that would have made it a notch better. We ordered the short rib tagliatelle and the white spaghetti. The beef was super tender and the ragu for the tagliatelle was very good. And the white spaghetti was very well balanced between the acidity from lemon, saltiness from the Parmesan cheese and garlickyness. Definitely recommend! read more

Visited 1/4/25. After a few years, made it back to Tosca. Equally a great experience as last time. It is a somewhat smaller place so prepare for slightly closer tables, but they do such a great job. Really underrated. We made a res in advance due to it being a Saturday but they had quite a few openings a few days before. Parking is street parking but they had a lot of open spots so didn't really need extra time for it. Our waitress was amazing with really great suggestions throughout and she did the perfect amount of checking in. The complimentary focaccia is perfection and my sister and I devoured it because it was so pillowy and flavorful. Then I got the truffle tagliatelle and my sister got the red bucatini. I'm not like a huge truffle person but the balance of sauce and truffle flavor was spot on. It almost gave really great alfredo vibes with a nice amount of truffle added in. I tried my sister's bucatini and while I enjoyed my meal more, they had a great cook to the bucatini and solid flavor. For dessert we split the tiramisu which was a dream! Super creamy and flavorful (not as strong of a coffee flavor, a bit more cream heavy so if you rely on cake and coffee in your tiramisu, that's not this one but we loved it)! Another fantastic linden hills restaurant! The interior is cozy and romantic for date nights. We went on a Sunday evening during a Vikings game and there were plenty of tables but I imagine it gets busy on other nights. Our server was great. Based on other reviews, we tried the brussel sprout appetizer, which were the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. For $9, it was a huge serving. The focaccia was also the best bread I've ever had-- we asked if they sell that and it's only served with meals which I'm bummed about. The white bucatini and short rib pasta were amazing! There are other Italian locations I do wish to share Bar la Grasa , and Olios , this is Up to that standard of pasta and flavors ! We ate our food faster than I could snap some photos but I do recommend the truffle tailgate and add the chicken , my kids that are pickey Eaters LOVED the meatballs !! It's a hidden Gem and it's highly recommended! It's was quiet , not super busy and servers were wonderful. I just had one of the best meals in a while, and I've gotta talk about it. First, the black truffle pasta--honestly, it was next level. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and the truffle added this rich, earthy flavor that didn't overwhelm the dish, but still made every bite feel like a treat. Super creamy, but not too heavy, so I could still enjoy it without feeling stuffed. Then there were the roasted Brussels sprouts, which were a surprise hit. They had that perfect crispy outer layer while staying soft inside. Honestly, I never thought Brussels sprouts could taste so good, but these were on point. Finally, the tiramisu--wow. It was sweet, but not overly so, with just the right amount of espresso flavor. Perfect way to wrap up the meal. The service was solid too. This was my second visit to Tosca. On both visits the food was exceptional. On the basis of food alone, I'd rate it a 4. My only complaint is that the kitchen literally smothers many of its pasta dishes with parmigiano reggiano cheese, which overwhelms what is otherwise a very well prepared pasta dish. This second time I ordered my pasta with "light" parmigiano and it was very good. My largest reservation about this restaurant is the noise from the kitchen. On my first visit we were seated towards the rear of the restaurant next to an open door to the kitchen. Very loud hard rock being played in the kitchen ruined the ambiance of the restaurant and our meal. On our second visit I refused to be seated towards the back and was seated about one third of the way from the front. Then Led Zeppelin came on in the kitchen. As a mid-boomer I can appreciate this music in the right setting. Not, however, when I'm paying a lot of money for what's supposed to be fine dining. We moved again to an outside table, not ideal because you're basically seated on the sidewalk, but at least we were able to enjoy a fine meal. Going forward, the question is whether or not I want to spend this kind of money to eat on the sidewalk. The answer is probably no. Service by the way was spot on. If only the kitchen/owner can pay more attention to ambiance, or get a set of headphones. read more

Our dinner at Tosca was to celebrate a special birthday. We couldn't have picked a better spot. Virtually all food was delicious. We wanted a smaller neighborhood spot. The food was on par with the best places we've eaten including many visits to Italy. We started with Brussels sprouts, chopped and Caesar salads. Excellent mix of vegetables and generous portions. Pasta was the star. Superb truffle, white spaghetti and tagliatelle with short rib pastas.The service was patient, timely and attentive. While the restaurant was full we so appreciated that we could carry on a conversation with our group. We will return again as couples as well as for special days. read more

Tusca is a tiny, out- dated, cafe-like restaurant and I agree with others that it gets loud in there. It could use some revamping with design and layout but the foods delicious so that's up to you on what really matters. I wouldn't come here to have an intimate romantic dinner. I got a causal Edina vibe here. there is free street parking that can fill up fast. Since it is a small place, it does fill up fast and reservations are encouraged. We tried the panzenella salad, tagliatelle with short rib, braised beef short rib and a chicken Marsala. The panzenella salad had amazing flavor! My only complaint was that the bread was rock hard. Maybe the tomato needed to sit longer to soften it but the taste was delicious. We absolutely loved all our dishes. My favorite was the braised beef short rib. The glaze on the meat was perfect! It wasn't drenched in it and it wasn't overpowering or hiding anything. It had just the right amount of sweetness to complement the meat. I was a little disappointed in the chicken Marsala. The chicken was breaded so it soaked up the Marsala sauce and lost all its flavor. I tasted lemon on the chicken which to me didn't go well with the mushroom sauce. The beef tagliatelle is a safe go-to if someone is a picky eater. It's a simple yet satisfying pasta dish. It seems the menu rotates a lot and I love that about restaurants. I was able to get a reservation a week out for 6:30 on a Saturday night, for south Minneapolis restaurants, that's pretty great as they normally book out by at least two weeks! The environment was lack luster, definitely more of a cafe vibe. I was expecting something a little more of a dinner vibe as it felt like lunch service and the restaurant is quite small. I ordered the red bucatini and was surprised by the spice. I can handle heat but this was very hot. I ended up asking to swap for the white bucatini and the staff was friendly and allowed me to do so! I would not recommend the spicy rigatoni or the red bucatini for those who don't like spice. Stick to the short rib & the white bucatini. I would definitely go back here but would order the Caesar and the short rib! read more

When I say this is the best red sauce I've ever had at a restaurant, I mean it. This is some of the best food I've had in the Twin Cities, and hands down the best Italian food here. The location is super cute and cozy, so definitely plan to make reservations if you're here with a group. I loved how intimate the seating was, even for a smaller scale restaurant. Obviously the food is the star of the show. There wasn't a dish we had that I wouldn't order again, and again... and again. Another group favorite was the caesar salad. A delightful reboot of this south Minneapolis spot adjacent to Turtle bread. We finally made it in for dinner on a Friday night. We had had a reservation a couple weeks earlier but one of the chefs suffered a fall and is (for now) out of commission, so in the meantime, they are only seating about half the tables in order to keep things going after their recent re-opening. Like all restaurants these days, diners need to pack some patience as the hard-work staff is stretched thin so expect things to take a bit more time. Nonetheless, the water glasses were kept full and the servers and host all had a welcoming and friendly attitude. We felt very welcome. The night was a bit cool as summer gave way to fall so we enjoyed the short rib ragu over house made tagliatelle after first starting with the refreshing Caesar salad and all its crunchy goodness. While I wasn't excited to have to give up shorts and return to long pants, I was excited about the tasty food and warm welcome. On top of everything else, they gave us two free desserts for allowing them to previously cancel our dining reservation on short notice (totally not necessary - we certainly understood their reason), but a nice gesture. The dense chocolate dessert with a rich caramel sauce was a standout and the fresh peaches on top of the panna cotta was also a refreshing option. The menu is quite limited given the small space and current staffing challenges but we had absolutely no issue finding something delicious to enjoy for dinner. Recommended. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Tosca this past week. Not much for ambience, but it doesn't matter with food this good. We ordered the Caesar Salad ($12), Tagliatelle with Short Rib Ragu ($24), the Crispy Brown Butter Chicken ($25). The tagliatelle was delicious. It's portion was somewhere between Primi and Secondi, larger than the first, smaller than the second. The chicken was equally as delicious and a generous portion. Everything we had was amazing. Flavor for days! So many things happening in my mouth with each bite. We started with the Sicilian Focaccia. Unexpectedly sweet, the flavors worked together. The cherries were not too sweet but when paired with the ricotta and walnuts...yum! The bread itself was a standout. And the Panzenella Salad was a nice offset to the sweet focaccia. So many beautiful, colorful tomatoes swimming in the balsamic. The first bite into Red Bucatini was first a little sweet and then the slight spice balanced it. The White Bucatini was a great example of Cacio de Pepe that isn't overwhelmingly peppery. It was perfect. The Brown Butter Chicken was unbelievably moist with a subtle flavor that paired perfectly with the beans and cabbage. And the lemon aioli... wow. Went together so well. Too full for dessert, but will definitely be back and leave room for it next time. The price was so affordable and not expected in that area. Super yummy, and braised greens were amazing with creamy goodness inside the pasta. We came for the first two pastas but fell in love with the Agnolotti. Meatballs Yummy! Bed of polenta and carmalized carrots make this dish, but the fresh herbs add a great pop to keep it fresh. Polenta Cramy goodness, no one has said I am polenta guy but this was really good Chicken White bean, the pickled veggie are a hit with the crispy chicken. Big chunks of garlic. Heard there was a new Italian restaurant in linden hills from a friend, and knew I wanted to try it after seeing the reviews and pics of the food. I went on a Thursday for a date night and the restaurant wasn't very crowded. It slowly got busier as the night went on. The service was awesome, gave great food recommendations, and was overall super friendly. The food was great! My partner and I split the swordfish and the short rib ragu. Highly, highly recommend both of these dishes. The homemade pasta was a great tough. There was a ton of short rib on the ragu which was a great surprise. Swordfish was great, perfectly cooked, and delicious with the veggies and beans. This is a great date night spot, and not too expensive for a fancier Italian dinner. read more

Our experience was definitely a mixed bag. Based on ratings our expectations were probably too high. The good: Caesar salad, beef short ribs and the brussels sprouts with cacio e Pepe. Delicious and well balanced. Also our server was friendly and did her best with many tables including a table for six who arrived right before us. The not good: the red bucatini was overly spicy seemingly to cover up the lack of flavor otherwise. The pasta and sauce were lukewarm and dry. The tiramisu was too cheesy and unbalanced. Finally the restaurant itself is incredibly loud with nothing to dampen the sound of guests trying to talk over the table next to them. Finally every time the AC clicks on the lights flicker which was unsettling and also distracting. Not terrible but not great either. Will not make an effort to return. read more

Checked out Tosca last night with a friend for the first time! Cute little place in Linden Hills. Wine list was excellent. Caesar salad was good, Brussel sprouts were to die for! I had the white bucatini with a side of chicken breast. My pasta was so salty I could barely eat it but the chicken breast was very good. My friend had the beef tagliatelle was it was amazing. I agree with the other reviewers it does get loud in there hard to hear, but overall it's a quaint little place with free parking and great food! I'd go back and not order the same thing again but try something different in terms of pasta! read more

Looking for a nice dinner out where we could get a reservation on short notice my wife chose the nice little neighborhood restaurant Tosca. We were there years ago and had a pleasant meal on their patio. This meal was pretty blah. I started off with the Tuna Conserva and crackers. I felt the tuna really lacked any flavor. If it really had charred jalapeno in it, it surely wasn't enough. I chose the Beef Tagliatellie from the secondi section of the menu and it was the star of the meal. My wife who is gluten free asked for a dish with gluten free pasta. They informed her that they didn't offer gluten free pasta? What?? I couldn't name an italian restaurant we've been to in the last five years that didn't offer gluten free!! Another odd item was they only offerred two items on the secondi menu. Menu just didn't give many options. They had three items on desert menu we had the tiramisu and the bodino. Both were big disappointments. The tiramisu was again lacking in flavor. In this case the coffee flavor and didn't seem to have many if any ladyfingers. The budino was a tragedy, closer to a flourless cake than budino. I suggest the chef go try the budino at Spoon and Stable or 112 Eatery if you want to have great budino. Service was passable but not great. read more

What an amazing local find! With fresh made daily favorites, including incredible bread, we instantly fell in love with this restaurant. The patio needs a little bit of work, and hopefully, they can secure the spare backlot behind for an additional patio space, but the food is fantastic. We selected the courtyard for our seating and had a wonderful dinner outside on a beautiful night. Friendly and fantastic service. My wife and I treated my mother in law to dinner at Tosca, located in Linden Hills neighborhood in Minneapolis. It was a grey, rainy Sunday evening, it had rained all day. We had reservations for 5.45 but as you might expect due to the weather, the restaurant was not crowded. It is a fairly small restaurant, simply decorated with high ceilings, mirrors and a few frame prints- nothing over the top. The background music was mellow, and familiar. We had a lovely experience , very easy to chat. The server did an excellent job of balancing her ample time with allowing us to enjoy our time there at our own pace. A menu that must change at least weekly given the one page format with about 4 choices in each of the four Italian categories. The wine menu too, had a similar approach and I selected the Cabernet Sauvignon option- a $40 bottle from Santa Rosa California, medium bodied and nicely chilled. It went well with our meals. We were served focaccia bread that seemed to be fresh out of the oven along with whipped butter- that was quite delicious- we complimented the server on that and she made sure we had plenty more to take home with us." We shared the lemon caesar salad and roasted brussel sprouts, served on top of goat cheese, generously portioned. The romaine was crisp, the lemon dressing, fresh Parmesan and small croutons were perfectly blended. The Brussels sprouts were large and not overly charred. We ordered the obvious standout on the menu in my opinion which is always beef tagliatelle and the server also recommended the brown butter chicken and mashed potatoes. Both choices were terrific, we enjoyed our meals and conversation so much I didn't think to take any photos. We were never rushed even though we became the only diners in the restaurant- we continued our evening with one order of tiramisu (very light and ample for three to share) and coffee. The Caesar salad taste as good as it looks, it was exactly what I think represents a excellent Caesar. The black truffle tagliatelle was very delicious, just the right amount of truffle ads that delicious and unique flavor, and the fresh house made noodles are very tasty, I personally wish there was a bit more to eat only because it was so yummy and a bit pricey, but you are paying for quality and freshness for sure! The dessert was very tasty and rich, I could only take a few bites though a bit too rich to finish in one sitting!
