I'm so sad when I heard this place was closing so I HAD to get here one last time to enjoy the amazing pizza! The restaurant wasn't super busy when we arrived but def was packed when we left. I love the moodiness of the place and the staff has always been super pleasant. I ordered the perfect pickle pie for my last YJ meal. This place is going to be missed so much and there is going to be a huge whole in my stomach missing. I really do hope we see a reboot somewhere else! Thanks again for providing wonderful food and service all these years

Had to revisit this Minneapolis icon before they close next month Started with the Ischia spritz which was refreshing and light on the alcohol Then we shared the trio of fermented kimchi-yummy but prob best paired with something else We shared 2 pizzas-the perfect pickle pie and the Korean bbq I was blown away by the pickle pizza- totally out of my comfort zone as I'm not a real fan of pickles but this was packed full of flavor The Korean bbq is also great but can taste a little to sweet for me at times Great atmosphere, service was good and decent price point

I'm so mad I waited so long to check out Young Joni & now they are closing. *sadface* I've always heard really good things about YJ but also how it's hard to get reservations here. We were able to get a reservation for 4 on a Tuesday night. When we arrived and checked in we were sat right away. I loved the rustic modern decor and how the kitchen area was open to the restaurant. It was a bit warm the whole time we were there, probably my only "complaint". We ordered drinks- I got the litchiquiri- which was good. For apps we got the chicken wings and the Korean sweet potato's. Both were excellent choices, very flavorful. For our meal we ordered 2 pizzas the Cacio e Pepe & Perfect Pickle. Both pizzas were great. The pickle pizza was my favorite of the two. Everything was so good. I'm sad that was the last time I'll dine here but also happy that I got to experience it & with great company! Staff were very nice and attentive. I feel like they were there to refill our water after every sip. We were even given tickets to check out the Photo Booth. Best wishes to the staff!

I was so sad to hear the this place is closing soon! I knew I had to come check it out! So my boyfriend and I made reservations for date night! I highly recommend you get reservations or you are not getting into this place! It is very busy, but for good reason! There is free street parking all along this area. It didn't take us long to find parking. The vibe here is modern, fresh and cool! They definitely did a great job with the decor! The host was very friendly. Our server Alex was also great! Very upbeat and a pleasure to have as a server! We decided to get drinks. My boyfriend got a beer, which he noted was very good! I got the "black mojito" It notes in the ingredient list that it has squid ink, but my drink came looking like a regular mojito... it was still tasty but not worth the money. The pizza: The crust here is really what strals the show! These are wood fired pizzas! The crust is crisp but also chewy! Sooo good! We got the Korean BBQ and the umami mushroom pizza with added sausage! I didn't care for the Korean BBQ because of the vinaigrette, but I don't like vinaigrettes, so don't let that sway you! my boyfriend did really like this pizza! I LOVED the mushroom pizza with the added sausage! Unique and so tasty!! I would recommend that for sure! Overall, if you get a chance to go check this place out, I would!

Vegetarian Food El Santo spirit free- 5/5- great mocktail refreshing and balanced flavor with ginger punch Umami mama pizza - 4/5 - Cheese mushroom delight Amalfi Coast pizza - 3.5/5 - light on cheese with good veggies.

Our experience is from ordering via DoorDash to be delivered to Blaine-area. We have heard great things about Young Joni and wanted to give it a try. However, in-person would have been better. We ordered the My Sha-Roni pizza, which was $27.50 before all of the service fees. To our surprise, the pizza was smaller than we expected... it is 12" in diameter. I don't think it was indicated on the DoorDash app on the size of the pizza so when two hungry adults need dinner, one pizza was not enough. If we were there in-person, I'd like to try other things as well. My husband is reluctant to try this place again after seeing the size of the pizza and that it was $27.50. I would rather support a local business--especially wood-fired pizza than order from places like Domino's. I would also have like to go here in-person.

Went for the Mother's Day buffet thanks to the promise of oysters, shakshuka, and prime rib. The atmosphere is really nice. Friendly staff, good amount of service touches, and great coffee. The setup is relatively minimal without a ton of options and a only a single bar. It was well kept up and fresh with solid communication between front and back of house. Pizza is made to order plus the full menu is available and included, whitch was very nice. I recommend have a few people to split since they only do a whole pie per table. Going down the line: - Salads: These were probably my favorite part of the buffet. The caesar was solid with savory chicory, salty parmesan, and light house croutons. There was a nice mix of bitter endive, crisp radicchio, and rich egg. The Gem Lettuce Salad was amazing. Bright and refreshing with the radish, cucumber, and very dill-forward. The breadcrumbs were great texture and the various sizes of lettuce kept it really interesting. - Cauliflower was good but a but soggy. I feel it could have benefitted from larger florets to stand up to all the oil. - Eggs sure were eggs. Not too hard but given all the creme fraiche I thought they'd be silkier. Potatoes were really tasty and tender. Also pretty down the middle. - Shakshuka was nice and bright with perfectly poached eggs. There was a bit more oil than I prefer but was great with the fresh pita (aka plain pizza dough). I just with they'd had small bowls for serving/dipping instead of on the plate. - Oysters were fantastically brine-y. Only complaint is they were kind of small, but is AYCE so what do you want? - Prime rib was ok. The outer band was much more done and way saltier than the center cut. They also had someone who had never carved meat before working the station which resulted in some people getting slivers and some getting a 10oz steak. - Desserts were fine. The cookies weren't soft and the bars were decent. I appreciated how dark the chocolate on was on that bar. The parfait looked fantastic but I didn't have the stomach space for it. Overall I don't think I'd do it again given the price, but if you have a table to split some of the more expensive pizzas could be nice. You're mainly paying a premium to eat at an Ann Kim spot.

Ordered: Kimchi Trio (~$13) Korean Sweet Potatoes (~$16): pickled fresno, gochugaru, bonito, charred scallion crème fraîche Grilled Chicken Wings (~$19): with salsa macha, cilantro, lime Korean BBQ Pizza (~$27): beef short rib, mozzarella, scallion, arugula, sesame, soy-chili vinaigrette Seasonal Soft Serve Ice Cream (~$10): banana flavor with vanilla swirl Aya's take: If you're reading this and get inspired, go quick because they are closing their doors on September 14! We had a late dinner reservation yet it took over 30 minutes for them to seat us because the party before us hadn't gotten up yet. 1) The staff didn't do a good job at keeping the party before us on time and 2) The staff didn't even acknowledge it when we did finally sit down. They could have offered drinks or an appetizer on the house for the inconvenience. We weren't super hungry but decided to grab a few items. The appetizers we got were solid and great for sharing; I would recommend the Grilled Chicken Wings of the 3. Super juicy and great grill char on the outside. The big winner was The Korean BBQ Pizza. It was both sweet and savory, the pizza dough was fantastic (and this is coming from a New Yorker!), and the arugula on top gave it that nice freshness. Very cool spot; I just wish they handled our reservation better.

Not much hasn't been said. We've been here multiple times. With family of 5, with just 2 of us on dates, with other couples, and with groups of friends. Food: Consistently good. Pizzas are fresh, the crust is amazing, and sides are always tasty. I usually get some kind of vegetables, sides, and/or salads along with the pizzas. Not too salty, not too bland. Drinks are good. Prices are of course on the higher side for pizza, but it's good pizza :) Service: Service has been friendly and quick. Sometimes we've felt a bit rushed, especially when the place is packed... as it often is. Reservations highly recommended. Ambience: Very vibey, modern, open space concept. Always wish they had an outdoor seating option or cute patio for the summers. But get that the space is the space ... for indoor space, it's open and buzzy. The only con is it's hard to get reservations, so be sure to check and grab your date when you want to go. And they may/may not still have their 1.5 hour or something like that (can't remember exactly how long) dining limit. A bit rushed for larger groups maybe.

Such a cute restaurant and so sad they are closing. We had the korean bbq pizza and the pickle pie. Both were really good. We also had the vanilla soft serve ice cream with olive oil and fleur de sel. All of the food was incredible! My one critique was the temperature. We went on a 90 degree day and the restaurant was extremely hot. It was not just us, the people sitting on both sides of us were also very hot. This place will definitely be missed. May have to try and sneak in one more visit before they close!

Got here just before 4 pm with no reservation and thankfully got bar seating right away. We ordered some old fashions, ribs, and a pizza. It was all so good, we plan on making it back out before they sadly are slated to close. Definitely kicking ourselves for waiting so long to try young Joni! Oh and the staff were great, absolutely no complaints!

Young Joni came to my husband and I as a recommendation from my cousin who lives in the area. This is a great pizza restaurant. It has a really fun atmosphere. I love that there is a photo booth in the back of the restaurant. We started with the PEI mussels. They were served in a chili-tomato broth which added a great flavor. This was a great start to the meal. We were hungry so we ordered the Perfect Pickle Pie, Margherita, La Parisienne, and Korean BBQ pizzas. Each pizza was better than the last. They were made fresh to order with aromatic ingredients. With this success rate, I'm sure that the other pizzas are great too! I highly recommend Young Joni!

Can't get enough of this place My sis and I went for Ann Kim's New Year's Eve dinner and it was delicious! 7 courses of off menu Korean food. So good and really fun to try different stuff from her. The courses were really well timed, the ambiance as usual was great. Fun service, we got to speak with Ann and some of the chefs too. Made for a nice chill evening with great food. Somehow I also managed to snag the last parking spot in the lot which was a huge bonus! We've been to a few of her pre set dinner events and they're always delicious !

Ask the Community - Young Joni

What is/are the best/most popular items on the menu?

Bringing friends- party of 4- is it better to sit at chef counter or dining room if we want to chat?

When I went with a party of 4 we sat at a dining room table and were able to hear each other well. I recommend that choice.

Bringing friends from out of town, is Wed evening a decent time to try popping in? I live near indeed so waiting isn't particularly a problem.

If you are trying to do the dinner rush, possibly not but it might be one of the better days in the week.

Does anyone know what size these pizza's are?

If you are totally ravenous one person can plow through one pizza solo, otherwise they're good to split between two people, along with a salad or one of the many other delicious things on the menu here.

Can I do a pick up order to go?

    They do offer take-out.

    Is vegan cheese available?

Nope. Unfortunately not. But they do have at least one option that does not have cheese on it.

Pizza prices? And what is the beer menu like?

Pizzas range between $10-18. I believe they have 5 or 6 tap beers and about 8 bottles/cans.

Is there bar seating where food is available?

    A couple of bars.

I'm sure lots of you are wondering what this means. Well, IMO there are lots of Asian restaurants in the Twin Cities that try to elevate the food for what is typically considered cheap Asian street/home-cooked food so they can charge a premium price. Most of them do it very poorly. This place actually hits the mark on most of their dishes. This is not just a trendy place for less familiar Caucasian patrons, but can be enjoyed by those familiar with the flavors. Service: 1/1 Staff was attentive and provided excellent service.
