Tomato sugo
Julia S.

This place is awesome! Located near the 44th and France shopping area, it's ultra convenient. (Tip: street parking can be a little bit tricky if there's snow, but there is a lot right across the street.) It's a very pretty establishment that brings together the classic and the modern and feels both comfortable and classy. The food is great and perfect for the aforementioned snow: it's pure comfort. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were unique and delicious. Mostarda, candied almonds, and blue cheese, with beautifully caramelized sprouts? It hits sweet, piquant, bitter, and savory along with all the textures. It's a must-try and a definite contender for top treatment of Brussels sprouts. For our second side, we got the tomato sugo, which was a very satisfying starter. Deep, rich tomato flavor, the perfect level of salt and herbs: you can taste the love and time that went into it. (The focaccia that came with was amazing, but you could totally eat this with a spoon, too.) For my main, I had the red bucatini (yes, I like tomatoes, especially when paired with time). It was absolutely awesome--the pasta was cooked perfectly and was the perfect shape for the sauce. The sauce was great. The chili oil added an excellent kick. The garlic breadcrumbs added textural interest and flavor. Again with the perfect, savory made-with-love mouthfuls. I was truly enamored with this one. For dessert, everyone went for the budino, a rich, delicious chocolate-hazelnut pudding topped with a generous mound of silky vanilla whipped cream, crunchy sugar cookie crumbles, and a drizzle of EVOO. It was perfectly balanced and just the right amount. Tying everything together was excellent service from everyone who we encountered. Knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient, they made our evening all the more pleasant.

First time at Tosca- the ambiance is very cozy, warm and welcoming. They welcome you with foccacia bread and then we ordered the sugo to pair with it. The sugo was really delicious and garlicy- my only negative is I wish they warmed the bread up that is the only thing that would have made it a notch better. We ordered the short rib tagliatelle and the white spaghetti. The beef was super tender and the ragu for the tagliatelle was very good. And the white spaghetti was very well balanced between the acidity from lemon, saltiness from the Parmesan cheese and garlickyness. Definitely recommend!

Visited 1/4/25. After a few years, made it back to Tosca. Equally a great experience as last time. It is a somewhat smaller place so prepare for slightly closer tables, but they do such a great job. Really underrated. We made a res in advance due to it being a Saturday but they had quite a few openings a few days before. Parking is street parking but they had a lot of open spots so didn't really need extra time for it. Our waitress was amazing with really great suggestions throughout and she did the perfect amount of checking in. The complimentary focaccia is perfection and my sister and I devoured it because it was so pillowy and flavorful. Then I got the truffle tagliatelle and my sister got the red bucatini. I'm not like a huge truffle person but the balance of sauce and truffle flavor was spot on. It almost gave really great alfredo vibes with a nice amount of truffle added in. I tried my sister's bucatini and while I enjoyed my meal more, they had a great cook to the bucatini and solid flavor. For dessert we split the tiramisu which was a dream! Super creamy and flavorful (not as strong of a coffee flavor, a bit more cream heavy so if you rely on cake and coffee in your tiramisu, that's not this one but we loved it)! If you are looking for a nice date night in a cute area I would highly recommend Tosca. Good vibes all around.

Another fantastic linden hills restaurant! The interior is cozy and romantic for date nights. We went on a Sunday evening during a Vikings game and there were plenty of tables but I imagine it gets busy on other nights. Our server was great. Based on other reviews, we tried the brussel sprout appetizer, which were the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. For $9, it was a huge serving. The focaccia was also the best bread I've ever had-- we asked if they sell that and it's only served with meals which I'm bummed about. The white bucatini and short rib pasta were amazing! I will definitely be back!

There are restaurants that I go to that I can't decide what I want to eat. This is one of them so I ordered two plates.

I just had one of the best meals in a while, and I've gotta talk about it. First, the black truffle pasta--honestly, it was next level. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and the truffle added this rich, earthy flavor that didn't overwhelm the dish, but still made every bite feel like a treat. Super creamy, but not too heavy, so I could still enjoy it without feeling stuffed. Then there were the roasted Brussels sprouts, which were a surprise hit. They had that perfect crispy outer layer while staying soft inside. Honestly, I never thought Brussels sprouts could taste so good, but these were on point. Finally, the tiramisu--wow. It was sweet, but not overly so, with just the right amount of espresso flavor. Perfect way to wrap up the meal. The service was solid too. Our server was super nice and really on top of things. The overall restaurant environment was comfortable and welcoming. Just a really smooth experience all around. I'm definitely coming back for this kind of meal again.

I was able to get a reservation a week out for 6:30 on a Saturday night, for south Minneapolis restaurants, that's pretty great as they normally book out by at least two weeks! The environment was lack luster, definitely more of a cafe vibe. I was expecting something a little more of a dinner vibe as it felt like lunch service and the restaurant is quite small. I ordered the red bucatini and was surprised by the spice. I can handle heat but this was very hot. I ended up asking to swap for the white bucatini and the staff was friendly and allowed me to do so! I would not recommend the spicy rigatoni or the red bucatini for those who don't like spice. Stick to the short rib & the white bucatini. I would definitely go back here but would order the Caesar and the short rib!

Focaccia for friends! :)

Incredible restaurant. Remarkable food. Capable of fixing the economy. Compliments are not enough; we need to worship the chef. The chicken was described as if "Chappell Roan and Gordon Ramsey had a baby." Thought to be a ridiculous price as a $12 add-on, boy were we wrong. I believe I watch my sister transcend as she tried it. The focaccia??? Incapable of being described in mere words. We had to get multiple rounds!! You will rest well having tried this bread. You're welcome, insomniacs. Next, the tiramisu-- how to incapsulate the tiramisu? It is something one has to try for themself. Whatever you get on the menu is sure to be delicious, and at least one of us will be back next week. 9 million dollars to the waitress. Make sure to eat here. No matter what.

I wanted to eat every item on the menu and had to limit myself so now I have to return at least 3 to 4 more times to order everything I would love to try. See my comments about the photos because that'll let you know just how delicious everything is. I also had the crab ravioli, and that was out of this world and then the rabbit pasta dish was also quite tasty if you like that kind of game (not pictured). My mocktail was refreshing & the decaf coffee with dessert was the best decaf I remember having. The restaurant was packed even at early dinner and by the time we left, there was a line out the door. I don't see that very often anymore and I can see why they are going so strong right now. Great atmosphere, upbeat music pulsing in the background. People come here to celebrate and I got to sit beside people having an anniversary. It is so cheerful because everybody knows they're going to eat something delicious and they are right.

Service started out well but felt increasingly scripted and impersonal as the evening went on. Our server seemed knowledgeable about menu availability but offered little in the way of specials, recommendations, or genuine guidance, and rarely checked on us once the food arrived. The timing was surprisingly disjointed. Our bruschetta arrived before either of our drinks, my wine came well before his cocktail, and the sides arrived well after the main dishes. Menus were left on the table, too. The food runners were good and silverware changes were handled properly, but the overall service lacked the coordination and attentiveness you'd expect. The food had some highlights: the bruschetta was delicious, the gnocchi with cauliflower and orange was excellent and fresh, and the sweet potatoes were very good. Unfortunately, the cavatelli with rabbit sugo fell flat and lacked flavor. Even the atmosphere felt a little contrived. The prominent black-and-white photo of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings seemed disconnected from the otherwise bare walls, rather than part of a thoughtfully curated space. Combined with the scripted service and lack of genuine engagement, the overall impression was almost "this is what we think a great restaurant should look and feel like," rather than an experience that felt natural, welcoming, or particularly memorable. We'd enjoyed a few cocktails before arriving, thinking dinner would be the highlight of the night, but it never quite delivered. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation and the wait times to match, I expected more polished timing, thoughtful recommendations, and genuine hospitality. At around $160, the experience felt overpriced for what we received. In retrospect, neighboring spots like Parlor and Butcher & the Boar lived up to the hype more.

We also felt the bar area had a way more welcoming and fun vibe. The decor is very basic but feels clean. The lighting is bright and is not the vibe of romance if that is what you are looking for. The service here was nice. Our server was friendly but nothing over the top. The complimentary bread and butter was solid. The bruschetta was good but I wish there has been more oil and salt. The calamari is some of the best I have ever had! Would get again! The espresso martini is THE BEST I have had in the twin cities! Very creamy and delicious! The steak was not cooked to a medium. It was undercooked. The potato really didn't have any flavor and was just dry. The spinach fettuccine Alfredo was ok but the chicken had a boiled texture and was giving me the "chicken ick." The creme brulee was disappointing. No crunchy sugar top, some places tasted too "eggy." Texture was good. Overall I would come back but would go to the bar side and do apps and drinks

I'm not a big pasta person, but I could always go for pizza so we ended up trying a variety of items. We tried the cheese puffs and chicken wings from the happy hour menu. It went until 6pm and you can only order these items from that HH menu. Additionally we tried the wedge salad, and the hearth and honey pizza. It really intrigued me with the rosemary flavor. The waitress was training a new member and both of them were very nice and accommodating. They confirmed my curiosity on our pizza selection and they were not wrong. I'm a huge wing fan, but I'd say the wings themselves were over spiced - we both thought too much seasoning was used. The cheese puffs were really good, but I was hoping for more of a garlic cheese flavor. The pizza was 10/10 and that is the item that would get me to come back. Wedge salad not pictured as I dove right in. It was interesting - it was loaded with a lot of unknown flavors.

I love the pink and green, and the place settings are gorgeous. Bonus: the team is super fast with clearing and bringing replacements so you always have a clean plate. Add in huge windows that brings in tons of light, and you have one of the most photogenic eateries in town. Dario's beverage menu is wonderful, and I especially want to draw attention to their extensive selection of non-alcoholic options. In addition to house-made sodas and creative cocktails, they have a wonderful list of dealcoholized wines--awesome news for anyone who is looking for a zero proof drink. As for the food, Dario knocks it out of the park with a menu that offers options for all tastes. The menu is designed to share, and the variety ensures that there will be something for everyone. The first two dishes that ai sampled were the Gem Lettuces, which our server described as "a Caesar salad on steroids" and the Morel Mushrooms. The Gem Lettuces were delicious--the zippy vinaigrette was better than any Caesar I have had before, the cheese was a fluffy, savory, and salty delight, and the puffed farro was a pleasing alternative to the usual croutons. Bonus: it's fish-free! I'd say that it's less a Caesar salad on steroids and more what happens when the Caesar salad next door goes off to college and has a glow-up. The morels were served on polenta and complemented with Madeira and tarragon. They came with a confit egg yolk. The presentation was strikingly beautiful, and the flavors pure and harmonious. The morels were cooked perfectly and went beautifully with the wine and tarragon--it was a great dish for spring, and everyone enjoyed the layers of texture and flavor. For our pasta choices, we had the English Pea Triangoli that Lu recommended (thanks Lu!) and the doppio. It's easy to see why Dario is known for its pasta--these dishes were amazing. The English Pea Triangoli was otherworldly: sweet peas, snap peas, onions, mint, and pea sprouts come together with butter to make a nostalgic little bite of heaven. It tastes like spring. Sicilian pistachios add crunch and another layer of sweet and salt, and the lightly steamed vegetables and fresh pea shoots and mint also added layers of texture and freshness. Positively superlative. The Doppio was also gorgeous: one side is filled with ricotta and the other sunchoke. Honey adds sweetness and the hazelnuts toastiness reminiscent of browned butter. The rosemary complemented it all. For my dessert, I had the Earl Gray tea cake. It had a very pleasing crumb and subtle sweetness, and the lemon whipped cream was the perfect accompaniment. The sprinkle of toffee cookie added a lovely caramelized crunch, and the bright acidity of the rhubarb was preserved, making for a juicy and refreshing burst of flavor in every bite. Splendid! Thanks to Dario for a wonderful evening!

When my friend and I walked in, we came into a fairly spacious dimly lit space with loads of people inside. We were immediately informed that there would be over 1.5hr wait for a walk-in table. We were given the option to wait for bar seating as it would probably be quicker - and surely, it was. We did have to wait quite a bit, but it was a tolerable amount of time and definitely less than what it would have taken for an actual table. My friend and I decided to share 2 pizza pies as we wanted to get a taste of two different flavors, so we eventually settled on Korean BBQ & Perfect Pickle Pie. KOREAN BBQ As it was created by a Korean chef, it definitely had true authentic Korean flavors. As a Korean myself, I was very familiar with this soy vinaigrette and have tried this on many salad before - so, it was hitting home for me. Also, you can't go wrong with the bulgogi/beef short ribs known to all those who had Korean BBQ before. The combination of the sauces that they use for this pizza is definitely very rich, full of umami. I personally enjoyed it. PERFECT PICKLE PIE This pie was a totally different flavor to the Korean BBQ. It's less rich and maybe can be overpowered or considered more bland compared to other pizza flavors. But when tried together with the BBQ, it balances out the richness of the BBQ with the more subtle/less umami flavors. This pie gives more of a tangy/sour taste that pickles provide and more of a crunch due to the chips that are added on top. The dill is present, but not overpowering. It's a nice low-key kind of taste that people who like pickles will enjoy. Overall, the flavors were very rich in every pizza pie that we had that our mouths were bursting with flavor. It was definitely the most unique pizza toppings that I've had and can see why it's so highly regarded. I can tell that they really are meticulous with their every process and that their pizza guy by the wood fire oven is expertise in what he does. My friend and I walked out quite satisfied and I was honestly more full than I expected.
