This was a lovely restaurant and I enjoyed all the food that was ordered. The pasta was delicious and I loved the salad that we also ordered. The restaurant was super inviting when we got inside and our waitress was very attentive and answered all the questions we had about the menu. The tables were lined with white table cloths and candles and just very inviting.

Service was fantastic. The food was good and the vibe was terrific. We are definitely going back. Beautiful little place in a neighborhood and is right on the bus route. The restaurant pays for your parking too. We loved it!

Found this restaurant randomly after being in the area and really loved the vibes it set off. We sat in the patio and there were fireflies dancing around us! Ambience was pretty awesome. Service was a little slower but nice. Satisfied with the pastas we got -- creamy lobster sauce was really good. Overall, pretty affordable for a really nice area :)

After reading multiple reviews, we decided to check out La Grolla for mid afternoon lunch on a Saturday afternoon. A beautiful day allowed us to enjoy their garden seating. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and inviting with a full bar and plenty of beers on tap. Offering a lunch menu we went a little crazy because we were in Minneapolis for race weekend and my husband was carb loading. We started with appetizers that included the fried olives stuff with Gorgonzola, which were so different from anything that we had tried before, and really tasty. The bruschetta included Kalamata olives, in a really flavorful twist. The star of the show was a (lightly sautéed) mushroom salad that really was outstanding. We split everything so we got to taste it all. In addition to the standard menu, there were daily specials available. We enjoyed several pasta dishes that were exceptionally generous in portions and super flavorful. The farfelle pasta with pink sauce, spinach and sausage was absolutely outstanding. The garlic was sliced razor thin (think good fellows!) just provided a phenomenal taste to the entire dish. Complementary bread first time around anything extra is reasonably priced. Outstanding olive oil on the table. Honestly, all ingredients were top shelf. Our service was attentive and left us wanting for nothing. I love the fact that we were able to relax and not be rushed. We definitely return here again. Check out La Grolla if you are in that neck of the woods - just a short Uber ride from the downtown Saint Paul area.

My family and friends went last weekend to test out the food here at La Grolla for a potential rehearsal dinner location for my wedding next year. The food was wildly delicious! From the bread to the pasta - very well done. I had the tortilla with chicken and white sauce. I got one of the pastas that is house made. I would recommend to anyone who is looking some fresh pasta and sauce! The service was good and they made sure we were set with our food and water. The space was a little loud but I still felt close to my group to hold a conversation.

I think we found a new favorite Italian restaurant. I've been meaning to come check this place out and I'm glad I did. They have fresh pastas, I ordered the Alfredo to try the noodles and sauce, it was delicious! Noodles were light and bouncy. I will have to go back and try the gnocchi next time. My daughter loves penne alla vodka, it's the sauce that makes the dish. We started off with coffee, my daughter thought I was trying to do desserts first. Server was smiling, he said which ever order you want. They also have delicious desserts. Big restaurant with multiple dining rooms. Free street parking and lot on the side. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

If it weren't for the extremely slow service, this would be a 5 star review. The food was absolutely delicious. I am very impressed with the quality and the options. The seafood options were priced very well in my opinion and the taste was top tier. However, the service was extremely slow. We almost walked out after not being able to order drinks or food for 30 minutes after we were seated. It would have been nice if we could at least have a drink to sip on, but our server was no where in sight. We almost got up to leave when finally, someone came by to take our drink order. We were given bread, but no olive oil or balsamic so we had dry bread. Couldn't find anyone to flag down to ask for some! Hoping to return one day to give it another shot. Maybe it was a bad night.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary and had dinner here. I was excited to come back for the second time as it has been 8+ years since I've been here. My partner was never here and I was excited for him to experience it. When we arrived early for our 8pm reservation, we were told to have a seat and wait to be called for our table. The host was friendly and wished us a happy anniversary. My partner made the reservations and must have put a note in there. I thought that was sweet. So, we sat down and waited for our table to be ready. The entrance had about 4-5 couples waiting to be seated. You could tell some of them were there for awhile as they were checking in the reservation multiple times. We ended up having to wait over a half an hour to be seated. We tried to remain positive, but questioned why they have reservations as it felt like a first come first serve basis. We did notice a sign at the host area that says if you are more than 15 minutes late to your reservation, they will cancel it and offer your table to present guests. Once we were seated, we were asked for our beverage orders and bread came shortly after that. I was half expecting for a warm introduction or a thankful sentiment for waiting so long even after having reservations. We had oil on the table and was looking for pepper to add to the oil to dip our bread in. We weren't able to find our sever, but she showed up after we enjoyed a few pieces of bread. She asked if we needed any advice and asked us if we wanted to hear the specials. We ended up choosing two of the specials for dinner. We also bordered the fried green olives. The appetizer itself was the best part of the meal. Very tasty and not something you typically find elsewhere. The main dishes were hot, but it wasn't what I was expecting after hearing the special. My surf and turf meal was steak with marsala mushrooms and scallops. I will say the scallops were amazing and didn't contain any grit. I was unimpressed with the steak. It was smothered in the sauce and wasn't medium as I requested. It was nearly all well done. The steak was also cut up into pieces which I thought was weird. I did have a few bites that I had to spit out as it was too fatty or had gristle. If I had known the steak was smothered in the sauce and had no charring on the steak, I wouldn't have chosen that; or I would have asked for the sauce on the side. My partner's enjoyed his salmon, but said it was on the smaller side and also smothered in sauce - which he would have appreciated on the side had he known it was smothered in sauce. Had the specials been explained in more details we could have made some adjustments to our meal. I know that sometimes with special events, the expectation may be higher than normal, but I'm just disappointed in how the experience turned out. I'm noticing more and more there seems to be a lack of an apologetic nature in customer service. That goes a long way in my book. Overall, we ate the meal and it wasn't one of our favorites. Very unfortunate experience considering the price of the meals. We left with a "whomp whomp" experience.

Everything was "the best" until the new owners and management took over I gave it 3 tries but will most likely not go back. Their "special" was awful (was told it was chef's day off so assistant cooked). They took one look at my meal and agreed so I got something else. 5 other people at dinner were in agreement that food was marginal to mediocre. This was my "go to place for best Italian in town. Left my card, asking gm to call me - never heard back. Called next day, left a message - never heard back. I guess the staff didn't want gm to know that I was disappointed.

I visited La Grolla for the first time with some girlfriends earlier this week. I have lived in the Twin Cities for over 10 years and had not heard of this spot before. It is a cute Italian spot located in Summit Hill neighborhood of St. Paul. It is much bigger on the inside than it appears from outside.the service was welcoming, the food was fresh and delicious. There is a parking lot right next to the building. If you bring your ticket in with you, they will validate for free parking. A very nice perk, especially with street parking being limited.

Restaurant is small and intimate setting. Food was not great. Had the beet carpaccio and it was cut very thick. There was also too much dressing. We also got a very burnt roll of bread. I requested new, unburnt bread and they brought back the same bread just with the burnt pieces sliced off. Service was okay but did have to ask people other than our server for assistance at times. Pasta was not great either.

The pros: portion sizes are huge, chicken tasted good The cons: waiter did not stop by the table once, my water was empty within the first 10 min of sitting there and i had to take my cup physically up to the counter to get water from them because i was so thirsty. I didnt see him once after that, he just stood up at the counter talking to the other server. The pasta was oily, they put so much cheese on everything that the oils from the cheese come out and my pasta literally had a layer of oil all around the plate. The mozzerella garlic bread barely had any garlic bread taste, tasted mostly like mozzerella. The mozzerella was also so oily that the garlic bread was just soggy 5 min after the waiter put the plate down. The price is steep, by myself i got an app and an entree only and it came out to 48$ before tip. Overall, for a spot with the reviews it has it completely let me down along with the locals who recommended it to me.

For lunch, I ordered the Chicken Marsala. You get to choose a side; options ranging from Alfredo Fettuccine to Green Beans to Mashed Potatoes to Spaghetti Marinara. I went for the Spaghetti. The meal also came with two breadsticks. Overall, the dish was decent but not remarkable. The highlight was the mushrooms in the Marsala wine sauce. They were flavorful and well prepared. The chicken itself was just okay. Without the sauce, it lacked seasoning, and the texture varied throughout the breast, with some parts tender and others noticeably tough or chewy. The spaghetti was good, though comparable to standard spaghetti you might find anywhere. The breadsticks, however, were disappointing; they were extremely hard and not enjoyable to eat. I also wish the Chicken Marsala and the spaghetti were packaged separately. Because of the amount of sauce, everything blended together in the container. I don't mind my food touching, but separating the items would make for a better presentation and texture. I do think other menu items may have more to offer. One mediocre experience isn't enough for me to write off the restaurant entirely, so I would consider trying something else in the future. However, I wouldn't recommend this particular dish based on today's order. Overall rating: 3/5.

We called around 5:30 to see if they'd seat us at 7:15 and they were able to reserve a table for us. I got the daily special which was like a chicken Parmesan but with steak. It wasn't my favorite thing because I was not expecting the steak to be thinly cut and more on the dry side. That could be my bad - I heard steak and was imagining something totally different. But it wasn't still pretty good! The noodle texture was to die for. It was $30. Drinks were delicious too and ranged from $12-$15. The only thing that I didn't love, is that they charge for every little thing. we got the focaccia and asked for olive oil and balsamic. Why was that an extra $2... $1 for olive oil and $1 for balsamic. If we hadn't ordered it, it would have been an $8 large sized muffin of focaccia - which turned into $10. Definitely not worth it. I asked for some extra Parmesan and they charged $2 for pecorino... honestly it just threw off the experience a little. And it came in the tiniest little cup. I understand maybe 50 cents but $2? Especially when we're having five drinks and three entrees between three people, realizing we were paying extra for those items on the check just was not enjoyable. I'd recommend this place to others as a great place for pasta and drinks, but pasta and drinks only. Maybe avoid asking for any thing on the side and I'd skip apps.

It is in the Mac-Groveland neighborhood so there is ample street parking nearby if you turn on any of the side streets. The restaurant does get busy at dinner, so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. They have many unique options for cocktails and mocktails. I opted for the Slaychel which is a non-alcoholic beverage that I think of as an elevated mimosa. It is fruity, slightly tart, and delicious! The service was great! Our water was frequently refilled and never got empty, and our server asked about any allergies and dietary restrictions before we ordered. They were able to modify menu items to fit the different dietary restrictions! Two people in our party (including myself) are vegetarians and one member is gluten-free and also doesn't consume much dairy or eggs. They were able to serve the patatas bravas with the egg on the side and the grilled asparagus with the egg and cheese on the side so we were able to all share the starters. The patatas bravas were wonderful! The potatoes are perfectly crispy but still fluffy. The tomato sauce was slightly smokey and had a very slight kick (think Minnesota spice) and it balanced out well with the creamy tomato. If you're only going to try one appetizer, this is the one to try! The asparagus was also nice. The salsa verde had a slight kick (a bit more than the tomato sauce from the patatas bravas, but not super spicy. Still Minnesota level of spice). The shallots also added a nice crispy texture to the dish! The egg really stood out in this dish, with its runny yolk and batter coating. There were a lot of nice elements and textures. As for pastas, I split the Spaghetti and Radiatore with a friend. The Radiatore was nutty and tangy, and the serving size was generous. I enjoyed it, but I would order the Spaghetti over it any day! I don't even know how to describe the Spaghetti and do it justice. It was creamy, cheesy, delicious. Our server said it was a staff favorite, and I understand why. If you're looking for a vegetarian option, go with this one!! Even if you aren't a vegetarian, give it a try. It's so classic, and it's done so well. For dessert: they give free churros when you're dining in! They are served warm with a chocolate drizzle. We also ordered the Honey Cake which we enjoyed a lot! The cake itself was light, like a mousse. There was some crunch from the hazelnut praline and honeycomb toffee pieces. It was nutty and sweet but not overly sweet. It was a perfect way to finish off the meal! Estelle was delicious and the service was great! I can't wait to come back!

I'm not a grapefruit lover and found this to be little bitter. They were out of the Mule's Mistress which is the cocktail I wanted to try. Food: Bread - 8.8/10 - Butter was very good and creamy, pretty standard bread but super fresh and I kept coming back for more. Roman Meatballs - 9.3-10 - This was the best thing I ate all night. Perfectly cooked, amazing pomodoro sauce. We were talking about how if we came back we'd get spaghetti with these meatballs. Apple + Root Salad - 9.1/10 - Probably the surprise of the night. Everyone loved this salad and we ordered two. The lemon vinaigrette dressing, strips of apple were all so refreshing and great flavor. 720 Day Prosciutto Burrata - 7.7/10 - The burrata didn't have the typical soft, creamy texture I'm used to, but good flavor along with decent grilled bread. I'm not a prosciutto fan usually but the aging did make this better and less salty. Mostly rating on behalf of the burrata. Rigatoni - 8.0 - This tasted good with vodka sauce and sausage, however I found the noodle to be a little floppy and would have preferred more al dente. Came in expecting this to be my favorite. Calabrian Cauliflower - 7.0 - Pretty good, a little spicy, maybe overdone with the sauce. Heirloom Potatoes - 5.0 - This was the most unusual experience of the night. How could anything go wrong with a potato? Well, the "Nduja aioli" ruined the dish for me. Maybe some kind of spice that didn't agree with my palette but others didn't mind it so take that as you will. Again, could have used less suace. Mushroom Cappelletti - 8.5 - Another surprise of the night is that this was my favorite of the pastas we tried. Very creamy, white sauce. Mushrooms are not typically one of my go-to's but the whiskey age shoyu, creme fraiche really elevated this dish. Couldn't eat a whole plate because of how rich it was but high marks. Bucatini - 7.9 - Enjoyed the nice chewy texture of the pasta, otherwise solid, nothing particularly noteworthy. Service was good, very attentive to allergy considerations in our group. No complimentary dessert for birthday :P Good atmosphere, not too crowded or loud. Friendly staff all around. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because the pasta doesn't blow me away which I would think would be the star as an Italian restaurant. I'm using Bar La Grassa as the standard for pasta which is may be a high bar. I'd still recommend visiting!
