I really like that it's a relatively small menu as it seems they are able to really perfect each dish and make frequent modifications due to the season. They also have a couple specials that change every week so you can always try something new. Today we lucked out with delicious crab cakes! We also ordered the focaccia, ziti, risotto, chicken parm rigatoni and olive oil ice cream. Needless to say, we were very full when we left and had plenty of leftovers! Visited 2/28/26. Back at Olio and not a moment too soon! I was surprised but we did manage to fit a group of 6 of us, which was awesome. Definitely a bit more rushed feeling with the 90 minute deadline as per usual (still completely get this but wish it could be a bit more flexible for a larger group), but still adored everything we ate and that's why olio still gets top marks. Things to get: -Focaccia- I always love the focaccia and think it plus the red sauce are worth ordering. -Burnt carrots- The burnt carrots were an unexpected surprise that I would definitely recommend. Fun flavors -Pretty much any pasta: casarecce, paccheri, spaghetti Nero. All so unique and delicious in their own ways. Really love Olio. Very small place but it has a nice, intimate feel to it. The food and drinks are exceptional. We had the calamari which was cooked perfectly, and the fried eggplant for appetizers. Our server was friendly and very helpful. 2 of us had the CASARECCE entree. Fresh pasta and all really fresh ingredients- so good! I've been hearing about Olio for a while and my husband and I finally made it there for a date night. The food was great, I loved that they had rotating specials also, because it keeps it fresh for those that want to go often. It is a very small venue, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. We were sat by at the window 2-top next to the bar and it did feel a little crowded, but not enough to ruin the experience. We loved both starters. The Fingerling Potatoes were on special, but they were husband's favorite part of the meal. For pastas I had the Casarecce which I was told is one of their most popular dishes and I can tell why. Great food at a great price! The focaccia bread is an absolutely must! In fact, bread + cocktails is worth it alone. The bread is perfectly toasted and it's sliced thick so the inside is still soft and moist! The pastas are great as well! Al dented, toothy pasta with perfectly seasoned sauces. I have chased some of the best Italian all over the state of MN and Olio has moved to the top of my list. This smallish Italian bistro has unbelievable food, a relaxed vibe and a staff that helps guide the way to an amazing dinner. We had wine paired with our starters and main items and began dinner with bruschetta, Caesar, and the burrata and followed with three pasta dishes, Casserecce, Rigatoni and Pacherre. Each pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauces, mushrooms, meats were heavenly! It felt like i was in a cafe in Sorrento enjoying dinner with the family. Charming spot with good food (although my seafood risotto was heavy-handed with the salt). Only disappointment to an otherwise nice evening was being asked to leave after our bill arrived. We went into this evening fully aware of the 1.5 - 2 hour seating expectation (we apparently were on the 1.5-hour clock) , however its unfortunate the restaurant doesn't seem to account for kitchen time when rushing its customers out the door. 15+ minutes to receive our focaccia, and an additional 30 minutes for our entree. throw in dessert and time to eat...... 1.5 ours happens fast. I suggest you be aware of this if you choose to go. This is a very small restaurant, and I completely understand needing to turn tables, but there are many variables to take into consideration before approaching a table and asking them to leave. read more

A hidden gem in the St Croix River Valley. Heard many hushed rumors of how phenomenal the food was here.... Now I know why they were hushed rumors. (Even the bathroom is adorable) our waitress and the bartender included provided amazing service, the bartender explained every dish thoroughly and gave us his recommendations. Our waitress was fun and accommodating. THE FOOD. Delicious all around. The Veal and pork meatballs with pasta was fabulous, the kids ate the CAMPANELLE - hazelnut pesto which I had a taste of, it was light but very flavorful, you can't go wrong with the Sourdough Focaccia served with a garlic whipped butter and a warm marinara sauce, hubs had the pasta Nero which I also had a bite of, another great dish with a little bit of a kick. They did a great job communicating with us regarding when our table would be ready, and offered a drink menu for our short wait. The space is small, but very warm and cute. All of the food was excellent! We tried the arancini, which was fried well and full of flavor. I got the campanelle. The pasta was cooked very well with wonderful pesto flavor. Even the bread crumbs felt fresh! My husband loved the pasta with homemade fennel sausage. The sausage was rich in flavor but not overwhelming. We were full but had to try dessert. We had the highest of hopes for our Saturday evening dinner at Olio, as this restaurant has terrific reviews and colleagues had raved about it. However, our experience was decidely dissappointing. We arrived right on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. It was later in the evening and the restaurant was not packed -- just a few tables still had dining guests, with several people at the bar as well. We waiting 15-20 minutes for water and menus and then another 10+ minutes to have drink orders taken, at which time we asked our waitress if we could place our food orders as well. We ordered apps and entrees. The drinks were served in stages. The highlight of our experience at Olio was the appetizers -- they were served promptly and were marvelous. We had the Sourdough Focaccia, which was served piping hot with loads of butter and a side of marinara. Crunchy, garlicky, with lovely texture -- Divine! We also shared the Grilled Asparagus Caesar salad, which was a scrumptious combination of flavors. Our entrees took forever to arrive. We had long since finished all of the appetizers and drinks, and all the water on the table (which was never refilled), when our meals were delivered. Two of our entrees included pasta. The sauce on my pasta dish had dried, and was not only not-hot, it was not even warm! My dining companion also had a pasta dish that had clearly been sitting for quite awhile prior to being served. We would have let our waitress know that we were EXTREMELY disappointed in receiving cooled entrees, but she never revisited our table to ask how our meals were. This is food service 1-0-1 people! Serve hot food when it's hot and ask your diners how they like the food. Well, we will not be trekking from the TC out to Bayport to revisit Olio any time soon! I do have to add though, that I took a portion of my entree home and warmed the pasta quickly on the stovetop the following day, and it was wonderful! I really wish it had been served promptly, when it was still hot, at Olio. This would have been a completely different review. Even the most inspired dishes can be destroyed by poor service and timing. read more
