    Fabulous Luci Ancora!
    Scott B.

My first visit to Luci Ancora was really a treat. We just happened to find our selves in the Mac/Groveland neighborhood and stumbled upon this sweet place via, Yelp -- of course. We didn't have reservations (and I'd suggest them), but the host found us a spot and the meal and service were fantastic. There is an extensive beer, wine and cocktail list. The server was fun, patient, enthused and informed about the offerings and suggested some really wonderful food. We started with the classic Caesar salad (with anchovies and homemade croutons) which was so fresh and so tasty. We moved on to different pastas. I really enjoyed the fettuccine con funghi ~ housemade heritage grain ribbon pasta, wild mushrooms, truffle oil + parmesan butter. I am still thinking about it. The vibe is friendly, the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. And again, ever member of the staff were so great! You'll find a parking lot out front and street parking. From Minneapolis, the Ford Avenue Bridge makes access really simple.

We always passed by this place but never really went in. One night we did and we always wonder why we did not go earlier. Service and Ambiance are definitely friendly and cozy. Foods are amazing. Proper Caesar Salads, but the star is definitely the house made pasta...just order any pasta, it is guarantee to your satisfaction One of the staff actually made her own Pistachio Gelato. It is one of the best gelato I have ever eaten. It is very Pistachio-y! Just creamy pistachio that melted in your mouth.

Pasta Carbonara, Salmon, the yellow thing is a type of delicious potato, flourless chocolate slice, Caesar salad,

The Food, AMAZING. The Service, Fabulous. The Ambiance, divine! Went for a wedding dinner with some friends and it was the perfect mix of elegant and casual. The staff was beyond amazing, will definitely be coming with the family. You pay for what you get, and I most definetly agree that the price was well worth what we received in service and food! The food was so fresh and great portions!

Beautiful, minimalistic interior design. Looks out to St Cates across Randolph; outdoor dining is near the small pkg lot. Great food & helpful wait staff. My sister & I had the 4-course tasting menu & a refreshing house Chardonnay. Paired well w/ the tasting menu. Lovely evening exploring a neighborhood restaurant!

We had a fabulous time eating dinner here. It's a tiny well lit dining room with big windows. Great for an anniversary dinner or something a little fancier. Knowledgeable staff with rotating specials.

Luci is amazing! I've been there a few times now and it never disappoints. Portions are small but tasty. The ravioli is one of the best I've ever had!

Food: Really delicious, loved the veggies-- it's a seasonal menu, and everything tasted really fresh. I would say it's more of a fine dining experience than a casual one, so everything was a little bit on the pricey side... but it certainly was worth it. Plus, the wine menu is fantastic. Ambience: Very cozy (with a real fireplace!)... would be a great date place. Dinner was by low light and candles, seasonal flowers on the tables. There aren't MANY tables, and it's a relatively small and intimate restaurant. Service: No complaints-- our waitress was super nice and rode that line between being present but not too present with expertise. Bathrooms: Lovely, clean. No complaints. Parking: Has its own lot! Yay for not parking on the street!

Ridiculously small portions, ridiculously high prices, and ridiculously slow service - 3.5 stars. This restaurant does NOT match up to all the hype. I don't mind dropping some Benjamins on a meal. But it has to match the quality, the quantity, and the flavor of the food I'm paying for. I don't feel I got this value from Luci Ancora. Three of us had dinner and dessert - no drinks other than coffee. The food was good but not great. The flavor of my menu selections were underwhelming. And it definitely didn't match the high prices. The whole meal set us back $197 for 3 people (see photo). But the food value definitely didn't match the price point. The portions were really small too. I paid 7 bucks for a very small side salad with hydroponic lettuce. Despite the propaganda and the virtue signaling in the menu, I definitely don't consider hydroponic lettuce an upgrade! Give me lettuce grown in healthy black soil on an organic farm, thank you. And 8 bucks for a sliver of flourless black cake (torte) that was only about an inch wide (at the widest end)? And 15 bucks for my "secondi", 2 small chicken thighs and half a cup of mashed potatoes? Come on, give me a break! Points deducted for sneaking pickled herring on our salads instead of anchovies! New alert: These are 2 completely different species of fish. And pickled herring is sour. But anchovies are salty. Points also deducted for not having Crostini and for not having Creme Brulee. Last but not least, the service was SLOW, SLOW, SLOW! We were the first customers to arrive when they opened at 5:00. And there were only 3 other tables after us. But it took a slow, agonizing, painfully boring 2 1/2 hours to get through our meal! It would have been worse and even slower if we ordered booze but luckily, we passed on getting alcohol. I'm glad I tried Luci Ancora after hearing all the hype. But I won't be going back to this one. -Daddy Maxx Retro

The pros: portion sizes are huge, chicken tasted good The cons: waiter did not stop by the table once, my water was empty within the first 10 min of sitting there and i had to take my cup physically up to the counter to get water from them because i was so thirsty. I didnt see him once after that, he just stood up at the counter talking to the other server. The pasta was oily, they put so much cheese on everything that the oils from the cheese come out and my pasta literally had a layer of oil all around the plate. The mozzerella garlic bread barely had any garlic bread taste, tasted mostly like mozzerella. The mozzerella was also so oily that the garlic bread was just soggy 5 min after the waiter put the plate down. The price is steep, by myself i got an app and an entree only and it came out to 48$ before tip. Overall, for a spot with the reviews it has it completely let me down along with the locals who recommended it to me.

For lunch, I ordered the Chicken Marsala. You get to choose a side; options ranging from Alfredo Fettuccine to Green Beans to Mashed Potatoes to Spaghetti Marinara. I went for the Spaghetti. The meal also came with two breadsticks. Overall, the dish was decent but not remarkable. The highlight was the mushrooms in the Marsala wine sauce. They were flavorful and well prepared. The chicken itself was just okay. Without the sauce, it lacked seasoning, and the texture varied throughout the breast, with some parts tender and others noticeably tough or chewy. The spaghetti was good, though comparable to standard spaghetti you might find anywhere. The breadsticks, however, were disappointing; they were extremely hard and not enjoyable to eat. I also wish the Chicken Marsala and the spaghetti were packaged separately. Because of the amount of sauce, everything blended together in the container. I don't mind my food touching, but separating the items would make for a better presentation and texture. I do think other menu items may have more to offer. One mediocre experience isn't enough for me to write off the restaurant entirely, so I would consider trying something else in the future. However, I wouldn't recommend this particular dish based on today's order. Overall rating: 3/5.

We called around 5:30 to see if they'd seat us at 7:15 and they were able to reserve a table for us. I got the daily special which was like a chicken Parmesan but with steak. It wasn't my favorite thing because I was not expecting the steak to be thinly cut and more on the dry side. That could be my bad - I heard steak and was imagining something totally different. But it wasn't still pretty good! The noodle texture was to die for. It was $30. Drinks were delicious too and ranged from $12-$15. The only thing that I didn't love, is that they charge for every little thing. we got the focaccia and asked for olive oil and balsamic. Why was that an extra $2... $1 for olive oil and $1 for balsamic. If we hadn't ordered it, it would have been an $8 large sized muffin of focaccia - which turned into $10. Definitely not worth it. I asked for some extra Parmesan and they charged $2 for pecorino... honestly it just threw off the experience a little. And it came in the tiniest little cup. I understand maybe 50 cents but $2? Especially when we're having five drinks and three entrees between three people, realizing we were paying extra for those items on the check just was not enjoyable. I'd recommend this place to others as a great place for pasta and drinks, but pasta and drinks only. Maybe avoid asking for any thing on the side and I'd skip apps.

They had great flavor without too much heat, which I personally enjoyed. For the main course, I went with the burger, and my wife ordered the rigatoni alla vodka. My burger was filling, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. The bun was just a touch on the firm side (I'll admit, I'm a bit of a burger snob), but overall it was very good. The fries, though, were excellent--definitely a highlight. My wife really enjoyed her dish as well--the sauce was creamy and flavorful, and the chicken was juicy. She mentioned it could've used a little fresh Parmesan and a bit more heat, since she likes some spice, but overall she was happy with it. Since it was her birthday they gave us a free desert and the server mentions the bread pudding which was very tasty. Overall, a great experience with good food, solid service, and a nice atmosphere. It is in the Mac-Groveland neighborhood so there is ample street parking nearby if you turn on any of the side streets. The restaurant does get busy at dinner, so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. They have many unique options for cocktails and mocktails. I opted for the Slaychel which is a non-alcoholic beverage that I think of as an elevated mimosa. It is fruity, slightly tart, and delicious! The service was great! Our water was frequently refilled and never got empty, and our server asked about any allergies and dietary restrictions before we ordered. They were able to modify menu items to fit the different dietary restrictions! Two people in our party (including myself) are vegetarians and one member is gluten-free and also doesn't consume much dairy or eggs. They were able to serve the patatas bravas with the egg on the side and the grilled asparagus with the egg and cheese on the side so we were able to all share the starters. The patatas bravas were wonderful! The potatoes are perfectly crispy but still fluffy. The tomato sauce was slightly smokey and had a very slight kick (think Minnesota spice) and it balanced out well with the creamy tomato. If you're only going to try one appetizer, this is the one to try! The asparagus was also nice. The salsa verde had a slight kick (a bit more than the tomato sauce from the patatas bravas, but not super spicy. Still Minnesota level of spice). The shallots also added a nice crispy texture to the dish! The egg really stood out in this dish, with its runny yolk and batter coating. There were a lot of nice elements and textures. As for pastas, I split the Spaghetti and Radiatore with a friend. The Radiatore was nutty and tangy, and the serving size was generous. I enjoyed it, but I would order the Spaghetti over it any day! I don't even know how to describe the Spaghetti and do it justice. It was creamy, cheesy, delicious. Our server said it was a staff favorite, and I understand why. If you're looking for a vegetarian option, go with this one!! Even if you aren't a vegetarian, give it a try. It's so classic, and it's done so well. For dessert: they give free churros when you're dining in! They are served warm with a chocolate drizzle. We also ordered the Honey Cake which we enjoyed a lot! The cake itself was light, like a mousse. There was some crunch from the hazelnut praline and honeycomb toffee pieces. It was nutty and sweet but not overly sweet. It was a perfect way to finish off the meal! Estelle was delicious and the service was great! I can't wait to come back!

We came on a Thursday night for my wife's birthday and heard of this restaurant because Travail is…read moreour favorite place in the Twin Cities. Travail purchased this restaurant and reopened last year. Here are my ratings of each item that our group ordered. Cocktails: Seasonal Spritz - 8.5 - so beautifully sharp and carbonated, reminded me a little of sangria Vilo - 6.8 - very unique flavor cocktail. I'm not a grapefruit lover and found this to be little bitter. They were out of the Mule's Mistress which is the cocktail I wanted to try. Food: Bread - 8.8/10 - Butter was very good and creamy, pretty standard bread but super fresh and I kept coming back for more. Roman Meatballs - 9.3-10 - This was the best thing I ate all night. Perfectly cooked, amazing pomodoro sauce. We were talking about how if we came back we'd get spaghetti with these meatballs. Apple + Root Salad - 9.1/10 - Probably the surprise of the night. Everyone loved this salad and we ordered two. The lemon vinaigrette dressing, strips of apple were all so refreshing and great flavor. 720 Day Prosciutto Burrata - 7.7/10 - The burrata didn't have the typical soft, creamy texture I'm used to, but good flavor along with decent grilled bread. I'm not a prosciutto fan usually but the aging did make this better and less salty. Mostly rating on behalf of the burrata. Rigatoni - 8.0 - This tasted good with vodka sauce and sausage, however I found the noodle to be a little floppy and would have preferred more al dente. Came in expecting this to be my favorite. Calabrian Cauliflower - 7.0 - Pretty good, a little spicy, maybe overdone with the sauce. Heirloom Potatoes - 5.0 - This was the most unusual experience of the night. How could anything go wrong with a potato? Well, the "Nduja aioli" ruined the dish for me. Maybe some kind of spice that didn't agree with my palette but others didn't mind it so take that as you will. Again, could have used less suace. Mushroom Cappelletti - 8.5 - Another surprise of the night is that this was my favorite of the pastas we tried. Very creamy, white sauce. Mushrooms are not typically one of my go-to's but the whiskey age shoyu, creme fraiche really elevated this dish. Couldn't eat a whole plate because of how rich it was but high marks. Bucatini - 7.9 - Enjoyed the nice chewy texture of the pasta, otherwise solid, nothing particularly noteworthy. Service was good, very attentive to allergy considerations in our group. No complimentary dessert for birthday :P Good atmosphere, not too crowded or loud. Friendly staff all around. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because the pasta doesn't blow me away which I would think would be the star as an Italian restaurant. I'm using Bar La Grassa as the standard for pasta which is may be a high bar. I'd still recommend visiting!
