We came here on a Friday night at 6:30 and were able to be seated without waiting. I called ahead during the day but they said they don't take reservations on the weekends. Also important to note, they close at 8 PM. It's decorated like a true family style place, cute flowers and colors and light fixtures. The service is friendly, but if you are in a hurry, they are not. They bring olive oil and herbs to the table with homemade bread to start which is an extra touch I think most restaurants have stopped doing. They did offer any pasta dish to be made with gluten-free penne. My pasta dish was tasty and warm but the meat was sparse, and though the prices seem fair, I would say all around this was an average experience. I can see how this could have sentimental value to people who live in the neighborhood, and I do like to support independent restaurants so I'm glad we tried it, but if you are a true foodie and if you are looking for great Italian, I don't think this is the spot. read more

A colleague pulled this (blindly) out of his hat and we couldn't have been luckier. The 4 of us all enjoyed our meals. The table bread is out of this world. House bread was warm and flavorful with a crunchy herb crust. Served with oil and herb dipping sauce (seemed like the oil was too "clear" to be olive oil) the oil was just ok. Caesar salad served with entrees it was fine, lettuce is cut into ribbons making it easier to eat. Here's where things get a little strange - the bolognese is served with meatballs that appear, and taste of the premade-frozen variety. The sauce lacks depth and flavor, no hint of garlic or basil. And bolognese is traditionally a heavy meat sauce, there was not much meat on either plate. Carne Armante - came with 4 meatballs in a meat sauce (very light meat sauce) and slivers of Italian sausage. In all, less meat than I was expecting and overall it was just ok as the sauce was flavorless and I tasted mostly mozzarella and the meat pieces themself. Wouldn't order again. Ambiance was fitting, and it was clean and had a light layer of dust but you could tell they cleaned semi regularly. Way over priced, the prices you see on Yelp have increased 33%. The parmigiana is $22 not $15. However it is only worth $15 with the salad with too much dressing and the bread, which is good. We all had the meatball parmigiana which had 3 small rubbery meatballs tasting very similar to Simicks. Yuck! That with overly rich sauce and mushy noodles was just plain gross. This place is in the middle of nowhere - but as soon as you walk in it takes you straight to Italy (we'll, at least what I picture Italy being like having never been). The menu is pretty limited, but I'm betting it's because they have a few recipes they know - and they do them all better than anyone else! I was torn being a pasta guy as to what I should order. All ten data dishes sounded appetizing. I settled on the Napolitana because it referenced peppers and the hot marina. I wasn't disappointed. The dish was great. The noodles were cooked to perfection. When you pull up to this building don't be fooled by the outside. The inside has a magical ambiance and you'll know immediately you walked into a good place! The food here is phenomenal! My daughter had the Bolognese and I had the Amante Di Luna. Noodles were cooked perfectly and both had great flavor! The bread they serve before hand is to die for and so is the Caesar salad. We tried Luna Di Luna for the first time for a lunch at work. There were three of us and we ordered the family meal of the Ceciliana. When ordering family style you also get the pasta, salad, and bread. If it were just the pasta and salad, I'd be giving it 3 stars but the bread earned a full star by itself. The salad and the ceciliana was nothing special. The marinara for the pasta was very bland but I was surprised that I liked the hot Italian sausage. The bread had delicious seasoning on top. You also get a dipping sauce which I think is an olive oil but more delicious seasoning in it! The bread is the only reason that would bring me back to try a different dish. read more

So, we lived in St. Louis for 34 years before coming to Bloomington. One thing St. Louis knows is Italian food. This restaurant does not know Italian food. Yes, the bread was delicious and we were encouraged by it. But the pasta is bland as is the sauce. There's no pop to it There's no seasoning. Please introduce your chef to basil, garlic, rosemary and oregano. The meatballs were not good and the chicken was dry. The menu is very limited. I was looking for a lunch place to meet a colleague and chose Luna based on location. It was everything I wanted it to be. It was intimate with lots of tables for business or conversation. I have to admit, the lunch menu didn't feel very 'lunchy'. It seemed to be a small set of dinner entrees. That said, I wanted to try the pasta and chose the bolognese. It was great and I ate half so now I have another meal, each costing about 8 bucks. It would be great to cut the entree size in half and maybe add half a Caesar salad. The bread and olive oil with spices was fantastic. I could never give up bread and this part of the meal reminded me why. Bread was warm with a crisp outer crust. Olive oil was tasty. So good. White and red sauces were bland, meatballs tasted like frozen meatballs, as did the chicken and shrimp. Other than the sliced peppers on top of our pastas (which did not seem to fit), nothing about the pastas was fresh. Neither of us wanted to continue eating our meals or take them home. I would say the staff was nice. The atmosphere was interesting, which I liked. The bread was good that they brought out. Although main dishes my wife and I got were not good. We got the Amante Di Luna and Carne Amante, which is all we can speak not to get. The meatballs were gross, which my wife thought were premade frozen meatballs. I'm generally easy to please, so that isn't a good sign I could not finish my meal nor want to take it home. Definitely won't ever go back based on our meal selections that day. It also was expensive for what you get. Gave it a 1 star because you go to a restaurant for the food. The atmosphere and staff are the bonuses, but at the end of the day it's about the food. I had an amazing experience the first time I came that I was so excited the next time I was in town to bring my co-worker. We headed there directly from the airport and it was 25 mins before close. We noticed the closed sign on the door already but the door was open. When we walked in - a few employees looked at us annoyed - one young lady I remember from my pleasant visit the time before. We asked if we can be seated and let them know we already knew we wanted bread and salads. They Sat us and ran us over drinks and quickly some bread and salads. My co-worker looked at the menu and was excited to now order something. We watched two servers walk past our table multiple times without even looking at us and at points talking to the table next to us and purposely standing with their backs to us. If you've been here - you know how small it is so it was kind of awkward. We watched a table order food, after we had been sitting there and then their food come while we waited for our check at this point since we didn't feel welcomed. They never came by with it. They didn't check in with us. They didn't fill our waters/drinks. Nothing. It got to the point where I got up to ask for the check. Now this is the best part - we paid $20 for 2 side salads and the same bread they give everyone. I think that was the cherry on top. I truly loved my first experience but I cannot believe this is how they treat customers. I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is simply because the service, and salad and bread they offered was amazing. Very reasonably priced and overall ambiance was great as well. The entrees however were quite disappointing in quality. I felt Olive Garden (the McDonald's of Italian food) even tastes better in that department. It was my birthday yesterday and I requested an old favorite - Luna di Luna in Bloomington! They don't have a social media or Internet presence so this family-owned place could be considered a hole-in-the-wall - and it is exemplary in that regard! Each entree comes with a delicious creamy Caesar salad and house-made bread with dipping oil & seasoning mixed in. The bread is so fluffy and the dipping oil tastes amazing. But the best part of this place is the pasta - it is so creamy! I got the Luna Special which comes with shrimp and chicken over a bed of tortellini pasta and covered in Alfredo sauce. Beware if you have any dietary restrictions though - the menu online is associated with GrubHub or Single Platform and they aren't accurate. It was unfortunate because we had ordered based on the website and when my husband opened the to-go containers at home we noticed there was prosciutto in our pasta. Luckily the owners, albeit frustrated with the situation, were very accommodating and made us new entrees to pick up. Be sure to call them to omit anything you don't want - I removed prosciutto from my entree since I don't eat pork products. Despite this hang up it was no fault of the restaurant owners. Definitely call to see what each menu item entails before ordering. Overall highly recommend this place to get your pasta fix. read more

Visited 2/17/24. First off, this place does have some good qualities. The waitstaff was great, it's quaint and cute inside, and the bread with dipping sauce is delicious. The house wine was decent too. I got the parmigiana with meatballs, my sister got the tetrazzini with no meat since she's vegetarian (no veg options on the menu), and my mom got the four cheese pasta. Sadly, nothing tasted fresh (my meatballs seemed more like they had been frozen than homemade). My mom was bummed that her dish was served with penne vs rigatoni like had been stated on the menu. The dishes all had excess of sauce and cheese. The portion sizes are really large, but I would prefer smaller portion sizes that are refined with fresh ingredients any day. I love giving positive reviews, but sadly this is not a place that I can recommend. I hope that they can work to make the rest of the meals as delicious as their bread and dipping sauce. read more

But actually tho the tetrazina I got was a lactose intolerants nightmare. So much cheese in the sauce. I got it without the shrimp and it was definitely missing that seafood texture. The sauce had flavors of seafood. However it wasn't my favorite. It had veggies in it which was really good, however i prefer veggies softer, these were crunchy for all y'all raw dogs. My bf got the chicken and sausage and it was alright. The sausage was tender and sweet. complimentary bread with oil and herbs along with caesar salads. The caesar salad was refreshing and the bread. oh the mf bread, that shit was SALTY. the guy next to us literally started to choke he was like i need some water and the lady he was like they really should bring them out before the bread. My mom and I liked Luna Di Luna very much. It's nice to walk through their doors and go from stale suburbia to an environment that feels like a friendly and welcoming family eatery in an Italian-American neighborhood. It's the decor, but it's also the service. I love the people we spoke to here; they seemed to take sincere pride in their restaurant. They got us fresh bread right away which was awesome. Between the dipping oil and the unique crust, it was unexpectedly above average bread. My mom got a pesto pasta with chicken which she loved and which looked awesome; I'll probably want that next time I come. I ordered the Ceciliana which was okay, but I wish I liked better. It had pasta and meatballs and Italian sausage, plus a big swirl of cheese and sauce. I'd have liked more pasta, and either more sausage or something else about the flavor to make it so that the bites without sausage were as yummy as the bites with sausage. Maybe I'm being nitpicky, though. We also had a slice of cheesecake for dessert that was really good. Prices are a little high, but when you consider that each entree is large, and comes with a salad, and plus you get that great bread, I think it's fair. Also I think there's a difference between the hours you see online and their actual hours, because my mom and I first attempted to come for lunch on a Saturday and they were closed. Luna Di Luna has been around for eight years so there is a following and I don't like to disqualify small family owned businesses but I won't be able to be a follower. I was hoping this would be my new Italian restaurant but it's a no go for me. I felt at home when I walked in. It's very charming on the inside and the ambience made it feel like I was transported to a small Italian restaurant in Italy. The service was impeccable. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and gave recommendations. The bread and seasoned olive oil was an A+ as was the salad, but unfortunately that's where it ends. The entrees were mediocre at best. The chicken parm wasn't chicken parm in my opinion at least not what i've had at other Italian restaurants and the mostac cioli wasn't what I expected either. The red sauce was very bland but the meatballs I asked for were tasty. I know everyone cooks differently but this wasn't my idea of fine Italian food. I was disappointed but I wish them the best. Their Rigatoni was rich with tomato sauce and mozzarella, and delivered the full taste experience that you look for with a red sauce based pasta. Their Fettuccine Alfredo was unique as it offered a variety of protein not commonly seen in the dish, along with a great complement of vegetables mixed in. The only issue we had with it is that the sauce itself lacked a little in flavor. They offer a wide selection of tasteful wines but no other alcoholic, something to note if you're considering dining here.
