The spring menu is full of fresh ingredients in the sauces and pasta fillings. I had the artichoke cheese pasta with a spicy creamy spinach sauce and let me tell you, it was PERFECT! Pasta was Al dente, filling was perfectly portioned and the creamy spinach sauce was light and spicy! For appetizer we had the fried polenta and it took me back to my childhood in my Italian grandma's kitchen. Cause that was a snack grandma would make for us. My girlfriend and I were doing a staycation at the Emery hotel so decided to pop in for apps and drinks. We were able to sit right away at high tops by the bar. We decided on the Caesar salad and whipped goat cheese. When I tell you, this was the best Caesar salad I've ever had... Probably because of the anchovy and pepperocini vinaigrette. The chewy focaccia croutons took the salad to the next level with added texture. The cheese was salty, the lettuce was crisp and perfectly dressed. I'm really not a huge Caesar person, but this will live in infamy and I would definitely return for the salad alone. The whipped goat cheese was surprising. This was my second time at Giulia! While this place was good, I do think there are better Italian spots in the cities. We did love the vibes inside and our service was great! We got the whipped goat cheese, which we loved and said we would come back just for that. Although I do think they need to provide more bread and char it less... it was a little on the burnt side. I got the carbonara which was good but did have an odd kick to it, I don't know if they added some additional spice but it didn't taste like a simple carbonara. For dessert we got an apricot tart which was delicious! My friend and I both agreed that while we would return if someone wanted to go, we wouldn't necessarily recommend it as our first spot for Italian. I went to Giulia's last Friday for the first time and it was overall a good experience except for the slow, almost non-existent service. Our server, Tom, tried his best, but it felt like we were forgotten for major chunks of the night. We found ourselves looking around for service way too frequently and it seemed like Tom was covering almost all the whole floor by himself, so we presumed that maybe one of the other workers called out that night. While the service was subpar, the food was amazing. I got the chicken parm and it was really tasty. The inside is very stunning and I found that sitting around the bar offers a better experience while you watch your food being made. Read from other reviews that parking was hit and miss but we were lucky and got a spot on the street but looks like there's a lot of lots nearby. Seem like a lot of other people were ordering their table side mozzarella. We also ordered a pizza and chicken Parm. Mozzarella was all right when we first got it. It was soft and had a good pull to it, but as it sat and got cold, it got harder. The bread that they served with it was too hard. All the other toppings were pretty good. Pizza was a good size and I definitely think I could've shared it. My husband liked his chicken Parm dish too. Brownie points were having a highchair. Service was great and felt attended to. Tucked inside the historic Emery hotel, this restaurant features high marbled ceilings, flattering lighting, elegant Grecian columns and strategically placed greenery which all contribute to a relaxed yet elegant ambiance. My work group of 8 received extra friendly, prompt service from our waiter, and the polenta croquetta appetizer was wonderful. Crisp on the outside, soft and well seasoned on the inside with a delectably creamy dip, we made this dish disappear in no time! For my main, I opted for the ricotta and mushroom pasta, which was beautifully presented and a nice portion size. The savory notes were good, not great, but I appreciated the unique flavor combination and pasta shape. Our side dish order of rainbow carrots was more delicious than expected, as the carrots were cooked expertly to bring out their natural sweetness while maintaining an appropriately firm texture. Made a lunch reservation on a Wednesday afternoon. It was not busy at all, despite business folks having lunch that must work downtown Minneapolis. Giulia is located in the Emery Hotel and it is absolutely gorgeous. It's so open and inviting, the service was fantastic, and parking wasn't too bad downtown. We ordered a few mocktails to start: Mora -- which has Blackberry, Lemon, Elderflower Tonic, Agave. Very fresh and very tasty! For starters we tried Giulia'S Caesar and the Parm fries. Both were pretty good. The fries could've been a bit more seasoned and the salad was dressed well. The pasta and the pizza were the highlights. The orecchiette was creamy, savory, and had the right amount of saltiness. The peas had a nice bite to them also. The pizza was great! Loved the goat cheese and the red wine braised tomatoes. Feeling Italian and decided on Giulia at the Emery. It was a Sunday evening after a long work day so I sat at the bar and ordered. So much seating both at the bar and high tops, low tops, booths. I asked the server what I should get for an entree and she said everyone usually gets the Pappardelle with pork Ragu so I went with it. You can tell the Ragu was cooked low and slow with many depths of flavor. The Pappardelle noodles were not bad. Very thin and light. The Caesar was overdressed which I didn't mind bc the sourdough croutons soaked it up. As I write this, I'm in Minneapolis on a work assignment and I decided to try Giulia 'cos it's close to my hotel. I have to put this review somewhere between three and four stars. I found the decor and atmosphere to be very inviting and the service to be good. On my first visit, I tried the Pappardell to be underwhelming. It wasn't terrible or anything, but I simply felt that something was lacking, especially when you consider the price. Now as an aside, I have a friend and colleague who can't eat dairy, and he said that if you have issues with dairy, your choices are extremely limited here. When some of us went here after work, he had the Ribollita Soup, which he said was fantastic. So much so that Kenny Banya from "Seinfeld" would have considered this his meal that Jerry owed him! So he and I went back there for dinner and he recommended to soup to me. Oh my, the soup was fantastic--among one of the best I've ever had. We made a reservation weeks in advance for a group of 8 for prom and were told we'd sit in the main bar area and order from the regular menu. Instead, we were placed in a separate room and required to order from a limited "Prom Menu" with only a few options at a flat $45 per person--much higher than the regular menu. and with much less options. We were never informed of this policy ahead of time. The staff wouldn't let us order from the regular menu or share meals, even though another large group nearby was given regular menus. We had also clearly communicated allergy information both by phone and in the reservation notes, but the server said there was no record of it and that our food had cross-contamination. After escalating to multiple managers and waiting about 20 minutes, they finally allowed us to order from the regular menu as originally promised. In other words, we were told we had to pay $45 per person, regardless of what we ordered, because we were going to prom (despite what we were told when initially making the reservation). Giulia has been our go-to date night spot for the past year or so and I always bring guests here whenever people are visiting the city. We've always had great experiences and the food is always phenomenal. The service is quick and personable and it seems like they're starting to recognize us at this point hahah. My favorite pizza is the Caprino Pizza and I get it nearly every time we go. All of their pizzas have very bold flavors and I believe it sets them apart. For appetizers I would highly recommend the Meatballs or the Oven-Fried Focaccia. Their Pappardelle Pasta is also delicious. Recently went for dinner to celebrate my sister's birthday. Our server Chipper did a great job, very friendly! The General Manager stopped by our table a few times to see how we were enjoying the night, wonderful! We had the meatballs which had a perfect serving size and the perfect amount of spiciness. The Focacci Bread was yummy and liked by all. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and the side of Rissota was perfectly done. The NA bottle of wine that was brought out hit the palate just right for those who had it. Service is seriously lacking. Early weekday lunchtime, restaurant was almost empty, but a simple order for two people took almost an hour to come out (56 minutes, to be exact). Worse than that was the lack of honesty from the staff - it was obvious that our order hadn't been sent to the kitchen when it should have, but the response from the staff started with stonewalling and gaslighting, and ended with a "cover your ass" type of apology (rather than a "what can we do to make it right.") The food can best be described as mediocre, generic, and forgettable. This place tries to combine "authentic" Italian cuisine with Americanized Italian food (which can actually work if done right), but this location simply fails on both accounts. I am not a complainer by nature and I prefer leaving positive reviews, but poor service needs to be called out. Truth must be told, good or bad. read more

First, let me just say I was in town for a convention and this was one of the designated hotels. That being said, I think the hotel was pretty busy. And I wasn't sure how the service would be at the bar. However, the bar was fabulous. Tom was my bartender and he totally knew what to do and before I knew it. I chose to eat the Bucatini pasta with crab and Calabrian chili and that was outstanding. The portion was appropriately sized, not too big and not too small! And I had one of their cocktails with tequila and lemon, and it was quite refreshing. Then I had a glass of Red wine, which was perfect. i think it was an Oregon Valley, Pinot Noir, and really the Service at the bar was wonderful. There was a young guy, too, who was really funny and his nickname was Gigi. Really my bartender, Tom, was the bomb. For entree's we got the 24 CAPRINO prosciutto, goat cheese, red wine braised tomatoes and the 28 CAPPALLETTI calabrian chili-ricotta, oyster mushrooms, asparagus. I really enjoyed both dishes the capoalleti was sooo good the pasta taste freshly made definitely portifino vibes. For dessert seasonal gelato which was a banana and Carmel mix. You could taste the fresh bananas definitely get this dessert while it last. For drinks of course a girls got to get an espresso martini I tried both with vodka and tequila. I loved the tequila one more but if you're a light drinker it's probably best to just do vodka.
