I was invited here for a friend's birthday. I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary valet. Considering the area, I was nervous about finding parking. The atmosphere was warm and inviting but it was quite loud. The music was noticeably loud so it was hard to have a good conversation. Keep in mind it was 7pm on a Saturday night and we were smack dab in the middle of the dining room at a table of 13 people. I ordered the airline chicken since I wasn't in the mood for pasta and am not the most adventurous with clams and duck. Prices were expected for sure. The airline chicken was good. It wasn't amazing but it was good. The birthday girl split the Spritzer tower with her partner and that looked really fun! I ordered a glass of red wine and the pour was hefty, which I enjoyed. I would have gladly had another glass but our server never came back to check on us until we were trying to figure out the bill. Other workers did bring our food out and auctioned it off since they didn't know who had ordered what. They also refilled our waters but no second drinks were ordered by anyone in our party. They surprised the birthday girl with a little bit of vanilla ice cream with olive oil on it and a large candle. It was cute. I did like the place but I do not think I would go back. I am not really the clientele and prefer places that have more foods that cost less than $20 a plate. With the chicken plate, a glass of wine and 20% gratuity added on, my bill for just me came out to a bit over $50. In summary: Giving 4 out of 5. It had all the right ingredients, and some unique ones I was curious about (appears to have this jelly/jam spread and was presented in halved dipped this cream sauce, the mushroom fondue). The fondue wasn't bad but the entire burger lacked flavor and seasoning. Fries were made fine though (good crust on the outside and soft, fluffy inside). Was it worth its value? I personally wouldn't buy it again. Pretty nice looking interior and the staff was nice. A friend did like her cheesecake so I would be open to trying something different from this place. read more

For a $200 date night, this was easily one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. The lobster gnocchi was essentially garlic butter soup with gnocchi floating in it, and only two tiny pieces of lobster. It was shockingly underwhelming, especially given the price point. The service didn't help matters. Our server seemed very inexperienced, struggled to open a bottle of wine, and there wasn't even a proper chiller available. On top of that, the food took an unusually long time to arrive, and the overall pace of service was slow and disorganized. For a restaurant charging premium prices, the execution across food, service, and overall experience fell far short. CAVEAT: the music was very, very loud on a Sunday at around 1pm. I'll come back here for sure, and I can definitely imagine revising this review with more experience. I stopped in for brunch on my own and everything was excellent, particularly the chummy and lightning-fast service from Bethany and Anna. This restaurant is directly connected to their sibling-restaurant Hope Breakfast Bar, so when it comes to brunch fare it must be a little like they are fighting for the same customers. But my Benedict Prosciutto was very nice, and Hope's menu doesn't have anything like that. Totally different decor in here too; spacious and modern. They have a little market section which got me excited because I was going to a dinner party later and was looking for something to bring, but they didn't have anything appropriate for that, or really very much at all. It would be cool if they had some compelling offerings there. The location is exciting. It's at the ground floor of that new building that overlooks Target Field across the street. That means it's a good idea to know if it's a game day or not, and it also makes parking something to plan in advance, although they do offer valet parking on Friday and Saturday evenings. I'll be back to try their dinner entrees, or even some of the more adventurous brunch items (breakfast pizza sounds very intriguing). But based on the volume of the music, I don't think I'd come for brunch with anyone that is even a little bit soft-spoken. read more

Salt and Flour is a charming, small Italian spot that definitely delivers on simple, comforting, and authentic flavors. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate--a perfect size for a nice, casual date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. However space is limited and you are seated close to other patrons. They have a good selection of pastas for most diets; My GF doesnt eat pork and I am a vegetarian but they were able to accomodate us both. A couple of minor notes: Because it's a smaller place, sometimes it can feel a little loud, and I'd recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends, as they fill up quickly! Great spot! Slightly difficult to navigate, as its right by Target Field. Best bet for parking is $15 valet, or the $10 "Greens" ramp. Overall good service! They were recovering from a rush when we arrived and it took a while to get water and drinks. The "Juicy" drink was delicious and dangerous for how easy it goes down. Everything was great! I have been here twice in the last month and am not sure how I didn't even know it existed until then. This is conveniently located in the north loop across from target field. Yes that means parking may be a little more difficult, but I think worth it. First time I stopped in was before a game and got to eat a slice of a friend's pizza which was great. I also had a gin drink that was flavor-able and balanced. Second time I stopped in was for brunch and a friend ordered us an espresso martini tower. These were so goooood. I also got the Benedict prosciutto. The chili crunch added a nice flair. Our sever that morning was Tom and he was knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. Loved his vibe. This place has been on my list for a while and finally got to go. Don't have much bad to say so let me get this one thing out the way. The location wasn't the easiest to find. Parking situation is pretty bad cause you'll have to walk a little bit no matter what and during winter, was not great. I would suggest just spending the $15 for valet. I made reservations for a Friday night and it was super busy! Seemed like a big date night spot. Beautiful restaurant with fun art all over. Getting to my table, I noticed a little section that I named "the market" lol, that basically had sauce, noodles and different things you could like a mini store. Also premade pasta dishes for take home which was pretty cool for this type of restaurant. I even saw a woman and her children shopping it. I ordered chorizo and fennel pasta and my date did a custom pasta bowl. Nice amount of options for that. Food came out in decent timing and was delicious. Waiter was friendly and very accommodating with water refills. Oh and I usually don't get dessert but I tried this peanut butter thing and loved it! We had dinner at Salt and Flour recently, and we thought the whole experience was just so/so. This restaurant charges prices consistent with the area's top restaurants, but the food and service quality certainly falls short of that. Our seating went fine, and everything happened at a good speed. The ambiance of the restaurant was also nice. However, those are the best things I can say about this restaurant. We each had a cocktail and then shared three dishes. I'll detail what we thought about each below: Cocktails: Fine, but not necessarily good enough to be worth the prices (generally $15-$17). I could not detect any unique notes in my old fashioned, and it did not taste as smooth as many I've had. Foie Gras: Again, fine, but I've definitely had better foie gras in the Twin Cities for the same cost or less. The whole dish seemed not well thought out, it was both too busy with different flavors and also a bit lacking of overall flavor. Waygu Bucatini: Were we eating actual Waygu? Who knows? We barely could tell there was beef in the dish, let alone that it was special beef. While the flavors were ok, it didn't seem much better than a standard takeout noodle dish. Mushroom and Postachio Gremolata: Really not good at all. Pretty flavorless, and the kale really threw off the dish's texture. Don't get this one. Closing thoughts: Portions were a bit small; we were still hungry after what we were told should be enough, but didn't really want to play roulette with more food. Very mid place. So many better options around that we won't be back. The first things you notice in the place is the music that makes you feel like you're at a suburban Cowboy Jacks, then you see the insane AI art above the bar. Would love to know who signed off on that. The rest of the vibes seem like a TicTok fever dream. Good for them. The seats were nice and the tables were fine. Plates and flatware were the best things so far. The menus were cheap and strangely attached to pieces of plastic that made them seem even worse. They should just be stand-alone, or one piece of paper. For drinks, I got the whisky sour. Not good, does not deserve the name. The gin fizz however, was quite good. Chorizo & Fennel was my entree, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce had plenty of flavor. My partner got the rigatoni vodka which was very bland. Another thing - when we put in our pasta, we were asked if we wanted bread, initially saying yes, and then it became clear that was not complementary. Weird thing to ask. Was actually wanting to do the ossu buccu on their menu online and when we saw the actual menu it changed to short ribs. The service was very friendly, fun, and he checked up on us often even though it was busy. I really appreciated that. The atmosphere is elegant meets dinner hall is what I would call it :). It's nice a bit loud, but a very fun environment. If you're looking for a quiet romantic date probably not the place. The food to start our table had the beets, the burrata, bread, and octopus. The beets were ok the cream sauce was good but other than that not very exciting. The burrata was good and we enjoyed it. It did not blow me away or disappoint. The octopus was quite good especially the sauce. A little bit of spice and chewy tender goodness. By far our favorite starter. For dinner two of us had the rabbit and I enjoyed it a lot. It was full of flavor and the vegetables complemented it quite well. The escargot pasta was also quite delicious and has quite a bit of escargot too, which was a plus. The mushroom pasta which did have pancetta (it no longer does for you vegans out there :) it was good and gives vegetarians and vegans a great option. I was a bit underwhelmed by my visit here and would put this in the category of a solid mediocre spot. It gives off an upscale Olive Garden vibe meant to appeal to a younger, more boisterous type of crowd and has a good marketing message about the food and kitchen programming but the final products out on the table were a little disappointing. Located in a great location across the street from the Minnesota Twins Field, there is $15 valet parking, some parking garages nearby, and some close street meter parking on N. 3rd if you don't mind driving around a large square block to get to the one-way entry of the street. The facade and entry are very cool and it is set in the courtyard of some mid-rise condos and offices. Very convenient for people that live or work there and need a hangout after hours, or people needing sustenance before or after a ball game. There is a full bar with interesting cocktails in the expected price range between about $16-23, and a wine list that seemed fairly limited especially for a place that is really touting food with an Italian bent. When I see places with this type of menu, I expect to see a large selection of Italian wines in many different price points. What I found was a minimal selection of Italian varietals and what was there was typically a single representation (e.g., 1 offering of a Barber d' Alba; 1 offering of a Nebbiolo, etc.) That is a warning sign to me that they are either not wanting to put out the $$ for maintaining a decent selection inventory or that they really don't care that much about their wine program or that they really don't know much about wine. Regardless, that was a bit disappointing given how much they talk about the greatness of the kitchen final product. The kitchen marketing schtick was that everything related to "dough" or pasta was handmade specifically from highly specialized flour from Italy. The service staff really pours on this description. This preps you for an incredible and unique carbohydrate experience. The menu is fairly enticing with many opportunities to run into dough or pasta on your plate. My group ordered a plain Focaccia, Caesar Salad, a Salt & Flour Pizza (pepperoni and salame), and a Pasta Bowl with Bolognese. All of the items were ok. I would not be able to tell you that there was anything extremely special or craft made about any of them. In fact, everything tasted fairly commercial, and if you had told me that the base product came out of a commercial kitchen supplier, I would not have disbelieved that. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing terrible about any of it, but for a place that is really promoting its special dough and pasta, making skills, I just couldn't taste it. In fact, the texture of the pasta in the bowl actually seemed very much like boxed dried pasta instead of handmade fresh. Regardless, the meal was not terrible. It was on par with what I would expect to get at an Olive Garden on its best day. Would I eat here again? The answer to that is "yes" if under the right circumstance. Primarily, this circumstance would be if I happened to be already in the area and in need of a meal. However, there was nothing here that would cause me to select this place and preferentially drive to it just for the food. I think that if you go here, you can expect a reasonable, but unimpressive meal in a pretty lively environment. Based on that, it earns three stars. read more

It's a bit tricky to find parking but if you take the rail it's right off the target field stop (and save on parking that way). The pasta was cooked just slightly under al dente (when we microwaved the leftovers at home it was the perfect consistency). They also have some battered fries (top 5 fry style) that was great to share with the pizza as well. Our server recommend to get some hot honey on the side for our pizza and I'm really glad he did because it was the perfectly compliment for it! read more

Went to Salt & Flour on Friday and they have been open for 4 days. The service was just okay, and they may just still be working out the kinks. But, I would think they would have everyone on their A game especially during the first week to make sure people want to come back. The food was also fine. The starters we got were: Charred Meatballs, Caesar Salad, and Surf and Turf. The meatballs had good flavor and the sauce was tasty but they were dry. The surf and turf needs less citrus and fish sauce- you should be able to taste the meat. The Caesar salad was my favorite, it was flavorful and the fried anchovies were really good. The entrees were all lacking a little flavor. I did really like the salt crust on the tomahawk but was cooked under medium rare. The vodka sauce was good and I liked the toothsome of the rigatoni. This is a new Italian spot that opened up and we came with a party of 6. There was plenty of seating and spacing for us. For food, we had a couple apps and really enjoyed the foie gras. It had a fatty texture when biting into it. With the pasta, the bowls were large enough to eat family-style so we were able to try a variety of what they offered. There was a good chewiness and amount of flavor to all of them. Out of the 5 we tried, the Chorizo & Fennel and Berkshire were our favorites. I wish they offered a bread basket like other Italian spots, but I'm not sure it this is actually a common thing. The potato planks were a solid appetizer, the blueberry ketchup was a nice addition. There wasn't much that stood out to me on the menu so i just had their watermelon and cucumber salad for my main and i really liked it, it was refreshing and perfect for summer. Although, i would've preferred for the slices of cucumber to not be so large. My boyfriend got their Italian beef pizza and I didn't think it was very good, the flavors didn't work together. We finished with the peanut butter tart, i wouldn't really call it a tart at all after having it. My boyfriend loves peanut butter but he was very disappointed with this dessert. The espresso martini i got was made very well and was strong, definitely worth the money! Checked out Salt & Flour shortly after they opened in the North Loop Green. Great location directly across the street from Target Field and all I can say is any new (nice) restaurant in the North Loop is going to get attention and a following, a place to be seen before a night out on the town and this was definitely the vibe. The bottom-line is the food was good, definitely above average. Service was a little slow but I think they were still working out the kinks since we visited during the first weekend open. It's definitely a busy restaurant and the servers, host/hostesses, and manager (shout out to Anthony - let's go Warrior Sculpt!!) work their tails off. The design is nice with the bar area up front and more dinner seating in the back of the house with an open style kitchen. It's a little loud but that's what you would expect at any place that is new and busy. As for the food, lots of good options, from grilled octopus, roasted beets salad, and meatballs. Passed on the oysters and pizzas/sammies (but that could be an option for lunch). We went straight to the pastas - I opted for the pasta bowl with rigatoni and bolognese sauce and it was good, but didn't overly impress. The tough thing is there are other good Italian/pasta options within a couple blocks, e.g. Red Rabbit, Dario, and BLG. S&F's menu is diverse and there are a lot of options, I'd be willing to go back to try the walleye or rabbit & spazle, or a sammie, plus the drinks are really good. There is valet parking, plenty of on street meter parking spots, but if you are out in the North Loop, this is very walkable when it's nice outside, plus it's right next to the light rail. read more

The food was good. They make their pasta from scratch and they make sure to let you know that. The restaurant was clean, and the waiters looked presentable. Overall, it was a good dinner, besides the actual service. Our waiter, Aaron, was nice... but we felt VERY rushed. It was our anniversary and we were one of the only people in the restaurant, but still we were feeling extremely rushed, and it made us decide that we will not be dining here again because of that. Another thing, I ordered a mocktail, and it came with a whiskey soaked cherry. I personally didn't have a problem with it, but if someone who had previously struggled with alcoholic tendencies who was clean decided to order a mocktail and received a cherry soaked in whiskey, I dont think that would go down very well. But overall, the food was good, we just wont be dining at a restaurant which makes us feel extremely rushed throughout our entire meal. read more

Our server was super good! This place is right next to Hope breakfast, which is also nice! We got the aperol spritz towers which turned out to be so good. I usually don't like them but I enjoyed it here! The restaurant was cute and would be a nice date spot. As for food, I had a few things including the duck and bucatini! Love trying new places so had to make a stop at Salt and Flour. Maybe I was too excited or set my expectations too high because the experience was just meh. If I were to go back it would be for the brown butter Rice Krispie. When we arrived we had asked for a suggestion of wine, we told our server what we like and she suggested this bottle, I had asked what does it taste like, she just said good. Now I like most wine and this one was good however it was a white wine and not chilled. We asked if they had a white wine bottle chiller and we got one. To top that off, it was the most expensive bottle on the menu....we ordered the fries and mushroom foam, the fries are good but the foam melts into this buttery oil mess because the fries are warm and the foam can't hold up next to it. We also got the meatballs a the beets for an app. Both were good. For our mains we got pizza, BYO pasta and the fish, which was a recommendation from our server. The fish, maybe I didn't read it well but I was unaware was a full fish. It tasted good but wasn't super into picking out fish bones from my mouth at a nice restaurant like this. I also think it was super under seasoned so I mixed it with the red sauce from the meatballs. Also, I love fish and order it often so this is an opinion of someone who is not afraid of a whole fish. The pizza which I thought they were known for, was still doughy and undercooked, bummer and the pasta was just ok. We order dessert of the brown butter Rice Krispie and the iced affogato. Brown butter Rice Krispies would get again. The iced affogato was terrible. The ice cream was that of one found in my freezer that I forgot about 10 months ago and had freezer burn, when the iced coffee hit it, it turned into a brown frozen sludge. Don't get it, just don't. Pros: ambiance is super welcoming, warm and modern. The meatballs and ricotta are great, and the beats are awesome, but super spicy, which is a little different, but I liked them. The brown butter rice crispy is an amazing dessert, I would go back here anytime for that! Cons: warm white wine, melting foam from the potatoes, doughy pizza, poor recommendations, and my goodness that affogato. read more
