The ambiance is relaxed, low light as soon as you walk in and the place is buzzing with energy. The food and drinks here are amazing. Got some oysters to share.. so fresh and light, with all the fixings just as you would like. Perfect. Also the fries were chefs kiss. Super light and fluffy and flavorful.. always a perfect addition to any meal! I got the short rib and lemme tell ya... super good. Packed full of flavor, good quality meat.. very good! Wouldn't change much about it. It was a larger, more filling dish, and this with the addition of the apps was more than enough. I got my typical grey goose club soda lemon lime and they were actually served fairly strong ( will never complain about that lol). Waitress was good.. she definitely checked on us a lot, I wish that she would checked on us a bit less because it did become a bit much at a certain point. A very cute restaurant in Minneapolis! I came here for an early brunch and loved the cozy interior the moment I walked in. They have a variety of French style dishes and unlimited coffee refills. On a large chalkboard by the bar there's a list of specials as well. I started with the carrot squash soup which was so fall in a bowl. Comforting and creamy. The accompanied crispy bread piece was great too. I also for the buckwheat savory crepe that was filled with mushroom and spinach and it was filling. The buckwheat makes the crepe a little thicker I think. Plate comes with poached eggs and the yolkiness helps bind everything together. The side house salad was also very refreshing too. The food lacked flavor and I was pretty disappointed with it. Barbette used to be a classic when we came to town, but the food did not deliver today. I had the Ham and Gruyère omelet which was quite small and lacked a lot of flavor--I had to put quite a bit of hot sauce on it. The restaurant is pretty and has good seating both indoors and out. Our server was nice, but brought some of the drinks in much smaller glasses than tables near us who ordered the same drinks and got more of those drinks. When asked, the server got a bigger glass with the rest of the beverage. read more

Stopped by during happy hour and had a lovely experience! This restaurant has become a tragic relic of what it was. there is dust covering long neglected surfaces of the restaurant, and servers wearing clothing that appears unkempt. Beet salad was very plain, as if beets were dumped out of a can and greens were harvested from a ditch and wilted in the sun before landing on my plate. Its only saving grace was a smattering of goat cheese. Salmon tartar was oily, and the chips were stale. The fries were uninventive, some sea salt, rosemary. or infused oil might be a nice touch. As they were, there are better fries in your grocer's freezer section. read more

I visited Barbette in Minneapolis which gives us a touch of Paris nestled in a beautiful section in Uptown Minneapolis. The staff was very friend and provided quick and quality service. I ordered the Croque Vegetariene. It was good in general, however not really what I expected as compared a regular croque; it was more like piece of toast with the a little bechemel and gruyere inside almost like a version of a caprese sandwich. The pomme frites, though, were incredible-- and tasty. I also tried a cappuccino, which was silky, strong, and strong to drink. It all combined to make a good meal, and I'd recommend Barbette as a good spot if you want French-inspired cuisine done that little bit differently. Parking actually was not bad as we visited around the later brunch hours on a Sunday. This place is a must go. read more

Let me start out by saying this place is SO CUTE! I love all the French inspired decor and it has such a cozy bistro feel. The was a bit of a mixed back. The appetizers were wonderful! We got the Classic Beef Tartare and Pan Seared Scallops. Both were 5/5 and I would order again. For entrees we got Lamb Chops, Steak Frites, and Butternut Squash & Mushroom Risotto. They were all just okay. The fries for the Steak Frites were the star - crispy and salty, but arrived just above room temperature. The steak itself I could have gotten from Applebee's and not know the difference. The Lamb Chops were flavorful, but very small portions. The Risotto was very bland. The staff was all very friendly, but service was a bit slow. We were there on a Thursday night and it wasn't busy, so it seemed odd that it took so long to get our entrées. We had wanted to order dessert, but we had an event to get to and were concerned about timing. Overall I was a bit underwhelmed by our experience. Have been here before and the food was delicious, service good. Today they were out of ham, during lunchtime, so no Croque Monsieur which is why I went there. Numerous items on their menu have ham. Very disappointing and if we all hadn't ordered I would have paid for the drinks and went elsewhere. My boyfriend and I decided to come here for their happy hour and it was an okay experience. We ordered a dozen oysters and a bottle of bubbly for $42 which is a great deal. We definitely wish they would've told us the west cost oysters were huge and had a much different texture from most oysters. They were a bit hard to eat. We also ordered steak tartare and it was pretty good but nothing memorable. This is a cute restaurant but I don't think it's anything I'd come back for. The service wasn't up to par either. This was my first time back at Barbette in years, after moving away from Uptown. The food & staff were still amazing! We were sat immediately, which is always a plus. The restaurant itself is cozy with plenty of tables & lots of art on the walls. I have yet to sit at the round table immediately by the door, so that's still on the list! I got a vanilla latte, which was delicious. For food, I got the Wild Rice & Kale Bowl. It was a decent size & very filling; I loved the dukka, which I had never had before. I do wish the bowl were a bit more flavorful, maybe a seasoned sauce or some hot sauce would've helped. Either way though, it was overall delicious. We came here for the first time during restaurant week. It's a super cute little place right in uptown. There was plenty of metered street parking. For starters: the smoked duck breast was really good! Very tender and the sweet sauce drizzled around it made it better. The scallops were also a good choice for those seafood lovers. The gremolata was a nice added twist, giving the dish a fresh taste. For entrees we tried the mushroom risotto with braised lamb and the pork tenderloin with a blackberry bourbon jam. The risotto: I wish the rice had a little more flavor to it but with the mushrooms and lamb it was pretty tasty. The pork tenderloin was also a decent choice - the jam was a perfectly sweet and savory sauce that paired well with the pork. The pork was a little over cooked and dry. Moved onto the main course and I had the root vegetables with poached eggs in an onion broth. All of it was amazing. The eggs were poached perfectly. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the onion broth was so flavorful! Served with a couple pieces of bread so you can sop up every last morsel of it! Yum! I went here with a friend for her birthday brunch and it was amazing. I got the Le American and she got the Breakfast Tacos. I appreciated the traditional breakfast options available as well as some unique choices! We shared the Sticky Bun Cinnamon Roll and I have dreams about that dessert. It was SO good and came warm. First time going to Barbette was yesterday, and we enjoyed our experience there. The ambience and vibe of the space is a unique and fun one. We came for lunch but both noted that it looked like a fun place for casual drinks. The service was good but nothing special. The food was very tasty and it felt like we were eating French food with some fun twists. My burger the royale with cheese was $17.50 and with a $2 upgrade on fries it came out to be $19.50. The ham and gruyere omelet was $16. We thought this was a bit more pricey than a typical sit down place, but definitely worth the value. We'll definitely be back for more read more

We tried Barbette because they were part of the Citytins deal. The interior is romantic and small for a quieter night out. We didn't have a reservation on a Thursday night and it seemed like almost all of the dining room was saved for reservations, so keep that in mind. We tried the beef tartare and pommes frites which were both delicious! The aoili that came with the fries was great. We split the mushroom risotto, which unfortunately was really bad. It came out cold and completely bland with the only flavor being a smoky aftertaste. The server was nice and the restaurant is still worth trying for the atmosphere and appetizers (and a different entree than the risotto). It's a little off of the craziness of Hennepin Ave in uptown so street parking is easier to come by. read more

When there for a date, got catfished and I thought maybe the food would be at least food.. causs my date said she was a foodie and said she knew about all the good spots. For someone who talked about culture and food so much you would've of thought I was looking forward the a great experience.. NAW! This local is pretty awesome and Matt was my MF g. If I came back it's because of Matt. I know you aren't a server and I didn't care for the food but I won't mind having drink and snacks talking with Matt. Though bro didn't look like he wanted to talk to anyone. As far as the chef/food goes it was mid asf. I got the ham croissant with chips (the white cheddar cheese sauce was special so I'll give you that) but originally I got the French toast with strawberries that looked like tomatoes. It was like the chef had one and; half strawberries and put no effort into making look beautiful. They probably barely dropped it in egg wash (no cinnamon), cooked it for a moment and threw (in a lazy effort) on the French toast. If the French are responsible for "French toast" they are clearly the worst version of French toast. I would recommend using the croissant, an egg wash (of cinnamon, vanilla & dash of nutmeg), blueberries and almonds for the crunch. That bread I was given was cheeks. The dish in general was flavorless.. I would also recommend maybe a berry or in house maple syrup. At least warm up the syrup. Chef you put a real a** effort. I didn't take pictures cause it's nothing I wanted to hang on to. The bourbon was delicious. If I add in the catfish I'd give this a 1/5 but that's messed up. Bonus points cause whomever picked the music was doing they THING!!! Weak by SWV had me and someone else signing in there. So I'll give it a 2.3/5 I feel like maybe there's better options but I also won't hold my breath too. Only because of the music selection and Matt.. One of my go-tos for brunch! Barbette usually has excellent food, balanced cocktails and a good wine list. I recently went to Barbette with a couple of friends for an evening drink on a Monday. We did not make a reservation. There were plenty of spaces available. Though there was a small section on the sidewalk for seating, we opted for inside. Pros: - Our server was quick, kind, and answered questions about the menu with ease. We took our time with drinks and never felt rushed. - Cocktails were delicious. The espresso martini is nearly unmatched. - Ambiance is cute. I especially like all the framed photos on the way. Cons: - It got really warm in the restaurant as the night went on. - We ordered oysters and frites and they took a long time to arrive. - Oysters didn't seem super fresh - Parking lot is small. I've come here for brunch a few times and have always been pleased. The wait staff was friendly and always stopped by to top off our waters. I ordered the buckwheat crepe with poached eggs and WOW! The gruyère was the perfect touch. It was high end food for a very reasonable price. This restaurant is very intimate, and I love that they display art from local artists. I feel like I have an interesting experience with Barbette. My boyfriend's parents are regulars and come to Barbette almost every weekend to take in the French vibes along with their mimosas. As a result, we end up at Barbette quite often and I've come to love it just as much. First of all, the interior is gorgeous. The lighting is bright, soft, and flattering. The colors are beautiful and being inside just makes you feel like you're somewhere much cooler than Minneapolis. My personal favorite part is the art from local artists. I always look forward to seeing what they have hanging up. One day I will have one. One day. The food, like the interior, is always great. We usually end up ordering a charcuterie board to start. From there - the Royale with Cheese is my favorite. Leave it to me to order a burger from a French restaurant. Besides that, I'm almost always grabbing one of their many flavored mimosas. Yum. We always receive amazing service at Barbette. I've never been there without my Boyfriend's family - so I can't speak to the level of service their typical customer might receive, but I'm sure it's just as great. I really have nothing bad to say. Service might not wow you. However, the mussels definitely will. You might as well ask for additional pieces of bread as soon as they arrive to your table for the broth leftover is a winner. Ambiance is pleasant with dimmed lights and a few paintings on the main wall. As for the dishes: Mussels - 5/5 with a nice kick, strong garlic flavor, lemon juice I'd say and a tad salty. The mussels also had the perfect size. Not too big and not too small. Cheese board - 2/5 left a lot to be desired. I would not order it again. Three very small pieces of cheese, a few grapes, some apple and a compote of sorts. A no for everyone at the table. Steak and fries with au poivre sauce - 4/5 great flavor, crunchy fries and well cooked green beans. The actual cut of steak could have been better considering the price. Sweet corn risotto with shrimp - 3/5 this dish was saltier than it should have been and the rice was slightly undercooked. Not al dente, undercooked. Creme brûlée - 4/5 creamy with a nice thin caramel on top. Overall, thinking of those mussels, I'd recommend it and give it a second try. read more

I recommend wearing a jacket though, we were seated by the AC which kept us a little too cold during our visit. As for the food, it was nice... This place always has a soft spot in my heart for being still the cutest little French bistro in the ever so cool area of Uptown. The identity in this place is clear, the vibe is homey and the servers/ bartenders are welcoming. I hope their owner treat them well because customer service coupled with good food brings people back. Without the team, there will be no restaurant. We love just sitting at the bar and observing the action around us. We will order a few glasses of wine or cocktails and then get some mussels and french fries for appetizers. The last time I was here, the bartender made me her custom rendition of a dirty martini and it was one of the best martini I have ever had in the twin cities or maybe ever. Just the perfect amount of brininess and booze to make me smile the whole time sipping on it slowly so that it never ends.
