We made reservations without another thought. I ended up googling the menu and realizing my partner was a little off on what type of cuisine this was and I was in unfamiliar territory though still excited to try. We loved every second of our experience here! The decor was amazing, the service was exceptional, the food was to die for. They had a special Valentine's Day menu which included beef Wellington for two, so we got that. Asked if it had sides and they said no. I asked if a veg was possible, expecting frozen, microwaved bland veggies. We got beautifully roasted, seasoned veggies that were amazing. Plus the beef Wellington was melting in our mouths. Cocktails were also exceptional. We had an espresso martini and old fashioned which came with a table side experience. Tables all around the restaurant, including the bar, left from previous patrons. Looks like a bomb went off. After 1+ hour, most of the tables are still covered in dirty plates and napkins. It's not that busy, maybe 10-20% full from 8:30 pm and beyond. Vibes = 2/10. What about the food? I've traveled all over the Mediterranean and Middle East. I'd give the Shashuka a 5-6 out of 10. It is the most beautiful restaurant that I have ever been in. Like something out of a Midwestern great gatsby. I had been here once before and gave it 5 stars, but this time it has slipped a little. Same server, good service, he seemed like he was covering too much ground because he wasn't as attentive as the last visit. I had the Piaya and the wife had the linguini. Piaya was just as good as I remembered it, but the linguini was WAAY over sauced. Don't get me wrong the flavor and sauce is AMAZING, but it shouldn't look like a soup halfway through the meal. I was conflicted as to how to review Fhima's based on a couple of mixed experiences, so I'm averaging out my experiences to a 4/5. Fhima's has an amazing atmosphere and our server throughout a recent meal with a big group was super friendly and patient. Service was great on the previous visit as well - everything went smoothly that first time in general. The decor of the entire place is amazing! For my recent visit, we were told we couldn't get a reservation for our group of 12-15 people in the main restaurant but could be seated in the lounge, which was fine, but I was surprised that the restaurant was fairly empty the entire time we were there and there seemed to be spots we could have been seated. Perhaps it was due to being understaffed for the evening. The first mishap was that my food never showed up with everyone else's, which we later found out was because it was delivered to the wrong table. We got complimentary drinks as an apology which I appreciated. The lamb cigars I had were okay, but I wouldn't order them again. I found that the spices weren't well balanced. The tagines, however, were delicious on both my visits to Fhima's. I'd recommend those for sure. Paying our bills was surprisingly chaotic. When my friend and I got up to pay our bill together, our server somehow tasked us with helping figure out everyone else's bills in the lounge area and was handing us bills to give people. This was uncomfortable and I didn't understand why we were put in this position. Also, despite reiterating what we had ordered, we still had an incorrect extra drink added to our bill and had to ask for that to be corrected. As an odd side note: when our group said our goodbyes, we noticed that multiple people smelled oddly musty and quickly identified that the unpleasant scent came from the lounge armchairs, which on second glance clearly need to be cleaned. Was really looking forward to Fhima's after hearing some great things, but our trip was extremely uninspiring. First, service was one of the slowest that I've ever experienced anywhere. From start to finish, we were left waiting; sometimes in excess of 15 minutes for a two drink order. The drinks were good, but it seems they may have ventured to Istanbul to make them. For the food, I did enjoy the lamb cigars. They are flavorful, unique, and a very well-done dish. The lamb meatball tagine, however, was underwhelming. It was lacking in size even at first glance with some minuscule meatballs tucked inside a fanciful presentation next to a similarly small serving of vegetables. Finally, the other main that we tried was the Wagyu Tenderloin... and I'm not sure it could have gone much worse as the dish was ordered "medium rare" yet came to the table with the inside entirely cold. And I'm not even talking about the center, I'm talking within one cut off the edge. This was returned to have cooked to the appropriate temperature and while the dish wasn't bad once it came back, it was well after everyone else was finished with their meal. What a spectacular experience! This is easily the most beautiful restaurant in the Twin Cities. The interior is truly gorgeous. It's got clear Deco influences with touches that seem slightly palace-inspired. The attention to detail in the decor is exquisite. I felt like I had stepped onto the set of a film set in 1920s Tangier. This attention to detail was present in the service as well. Our server Annabelle was phenomenal. She was highly knowledgeable, very personable, and provided some of the best service I've enjoyed while dining in MSP. My host described it as choreography, and that was apt--there was grace in everything she did. This excellent service was also provided by everyone with whom we interacted, from the valet to the host to the people who refilled our water glass to those who cleared our plates. The service here is first-rate. The artistry of tonight's experience was also (of course) reflected in the food. As you'd expect from Moroccan, there were a variety of textures and layers of flavor with that sweet and savory pairing that is oh so satisfying. This was paired with French, Italian, and Spanish influences, so fans of fusion and Western Mediterranean food will be pleased. We started with the Moroccan sampler. It is an impressive dish that is beautifully presented. I can't pick a favorite component. The olives were lovely--each had its own character, and they all tasted like the Mediterranean. The tahini sauce was deliciously unique. (If you've never had a sweet tahini dip, give it a try!) The shakshuka was rich and had the most beautiful depth of flavor. I think you can taste the sun that the tomatoes grew in. The eggplant confiture was unlike anything I've had before--the brown sugar and allspice was really tasty. This sampler was an excellent showcase of the flavors that Moroccan cuisine has to offer. For my main, I had the gnocchi, and it was absolutely delightful. I'm pretty sure it was hand-rolled on a gnocchi board. Though the pear, walnut, and Gorgonzola combination is classic, this dish was elevated by the unique treatment of the star players. The candied pears were exceptional--hard-caramelized to provide a perfect bittersweet taste and blend of crunch and chewiness. The walnuts were dark-roasted and added additional toastiness, crunch, and a pleasant hint of astringency. These were lovely foils to the rich sauce. The toppings--shaved cheese and fresh sprouts--added additional flavor and texture contrasts. For dessert, we ordered two things to share. I had the baklava, which was delicious. It wasn't too sweet, so the individual flavors of the nuts and spice came through. It was tender and gently flaky, and a lovely treat. However, what I really want to tell you about is the saffron cheesecake. It was easily one of the most fascinating things I have ever eaten. Neither heavy nor too sweet, this dessert is a pleasant way to end the meal. If you like saffron, you must try it. They use the precious spice generously, and it's color, aroma, and flavor shine brilliantly. It was amazing. This is easily one of the best restaurants I've had the pleasure of dining in. Other restaurants in the twin cities area have a smoked cocktail, however, I appreciated how they prep it your table. Now I must admit I was confused to see cigars listed under the appetizers. When we requested the check, the waiter asked again why we made the reservation so late. We responded that we were at a show. We were requesting the check before 11 pm. We ordered the seafood paella, which was generous enough for 2 people. The paella rice was hard, undercooked, and swimming in oil. There were bites that were better than others, but overall the dish was inconsistent. The shrimp in the dish was overcooked and not deveined (which we were told adds flavor and the preference of the chef). We mentioned the shrimp offhand to the waiter when he came to check on us. When we first brought it up to the waiter, the response was: you ate it though. He offered to call the chef over, after repeatedly saying that thats how the chef chose to do it. We just wanted to get out of there at this point. We also ordered moroccan mint tea. It was 18.00 for two cups of the most inauthentic tea we could have possibly been presented. There was no fresh mint in the pot, the tea was weak even after letting it steep. The top of the tea pot actually fell off during the pour, which i don't fault our waiter for. Despite the steep price point, I don't think the restaurant shows care for the tradition of moroccan tea, from the state of the pot to the abysmal flavor. We chose not to stay and chat with the chef since we were pretty disappointed by the night overall. Also- they ran out of bread. Came here for a pre theater bite, landed up we were during their "social hour" (3-6pm). Wow. That's a deal. Bespoke classic cocktails for $10. And they genuinely have ingredients and plans that put me, a well stocked liquor nerd, to shame. We shared a Moroccan dips sampler and the merguez sandwich, both were great, good amount of spice and both the accompanying warm pita and fries were great on their own. The Lamb Cigars were probably the highlight of the entire meal. They were absolutely DIVINE. If you get one thing here, make it those! After apps we ordered the Beef Shoulder Tagine and Pulled Rabbit and Creamy Saffron Risotto for mains. The Tagine was great for the first couple bites, but once you got closer to the bottom, the food started to taste charred. We didn't finish it because we couldn't get over how burned the food and sauce were at the bottom. The Pulled Rabbit and Creamy Saffron Risotto was... not good. At all. It was largely tasteless, except for a horrific aftertaste of plastic that lingered for far, far too long. I wouldn't recommend ordering it! Finally, we finished the iffy meal with the Éclair Bomb. It was pretty good! There was a ton of chocolate on top, which sounds good, but there was so much and it wasn't quite sweet enough for us and it kind of canceled out the amazing custard that was in it. read more

Worth a try! It's located near the Marriott in Downtown Minneapolis and conveniently connected to the Skyway from the back. Looks like they still have a lot of new staff getting used to things but service was nice overall. Meals take a while to prepare and I kind of wish we had our appetizers to start versus waiting for the paella to come out first, but it's a minor kink in the overall experience. Food: Israeli Tomato Cucumber Salad: This one is a pass for me. There's literally like three tomatoes and three slices of cucumbers. They weren't joking about the portion being small and I wasn't super impressed by this. Wagyu Steak Tartare: Not bad, it comes with an egg that you mix into the tartare and it's not overly minced so it's got a nice texture to it. The fries originally came without seasoning or sauce so we had to wait a while to get that though. At least the fries were fried well, like the right amount of crispy. Lamb Cigars: I guess interesting is the best way to describe this but I enjoyed trying this one out. I don't think I've ever had anything like this. The lamb is definitely grounded and they put a lot of savory seasoning in this yet the flaky wrap is sweet outside. It gets heavy after eating this but at least the portion is just right. Mama Fhima Paella: This one was the highlight. Really flavorful, and lots of mussels and clams in this. There were a few shrimps too. Being that we are big fans of multi-course experiences, we jumped on board! There was a mix up when we booked the experience so we almost accidentally got 2 drink pairings as well. Our first course was a Fhima cigar and it was phenomenal we also received complimentary sourdough challah bread with whipped butter! We absolutely loved it and thought the rest of the dinner would be just as good. We were so sad the following courses lacked flavor and seasoning, which was a bummer considering the price $175pp. The seafood paella was soggy and extremely fishy smelling. The Lamb Tagine looked incredible but it unfortunately lacked flavor (salt maybe? Umami?). The quinoa salad was good, with the lamb sausage. Baklava was the dessert and it was one of the most dense baklava I've ever had, it was neither of our favorites, but if you like dense baklavas, this is for you. The service was good, our server replenished our silverware before each course and timed everything beautifully. We were sat in a booth with curtains with low lighting, very romantic for a date night! We both have been to Fhima's before ordering a la cart which was good. There is nothing more exciting between the 5course chef's tasting than the a la cart. We both came in thinking it was something new and won't resemble anything on the menu. It might be worth it to someone who want to try a couple of things on the menu. read more

Visited Fhima's for the first time prior to a show at Pantages Theatre. I had never been before and was impressed with the size and decor of the venue. It's fine dinning, but still felt comfortable wearing jeans. We ordered several things to share. The Lamb Cigars were a bit messy to eat with a fork and the powered sugar over the top really threw me off, but overall it tasted good. I probably wouldn't order again, but glad I ordered them the first time. The Saffron Risotto was amazing. A true highlight to the meal and would recommend to others. read more

Food is completely underwhelming. Moroccan food should equal flavor. Big miss. Cocktails, some were good, more were not good. Service.... They just pushed what was most expensive. I guess when none of it had any flavor, that's what you do. It used to be a charming art deco space under previous ownership. It's ridiculously gaudy and ugly. Ambiance is meh. If I possess a superpower, it would be the ability to sniff out spectacular eateries and travel destinations wherever my adventures take me. Tonight was no exception as I had an exhilarating culinary escapade at Fhima's in downtown Minneapolis Minnesota. This French and Moroccan fusion restaurant exceeded all my expectations. I did valet parking and I arrived thirty minutes early for my reservation so that I could indulge myself with their historic bar and artisanal cocktails offerings. The moment I stepped inside, I felt like I traveled back in time; enchanted by its antique furnishings complemented by vintage decor and ambiance that transported me straight into another era. They had a wonderful happy hour menu, but I opted for their signature old-fashioned cocktail called "Phone Call from Istanbul." Bar manager Nils Larsson, prepared me a smoked signature, old-fashioned cocktail, which I filmed live on Facebook. As I stated there, it may well have been one of the best, old-fashioned cocktails I have ever had. I must say, I was more than pleased. As our conversation progressed we started talking about mixology and spirits wherein interacting with him became even more captivating and informative resulting in sharing with Nils Larsson (the manager) my original 1915 Singapore Sling recipe from Raffles Hotel Long Bar, which he recreated flawlessly giving rise to taste buds stimulation. It was so unique, and a photograph of it is included. I proceeded to have a Moroccan dish "Lamb Meatball Tagine". It was served to me in the tagine, and, as the server lifted the top of it, and waved it about, the aromatic signature of the dish, with its wonderful blend of Moroccan herbs and spices took me away to exotic lands and musings. Lamb Meatball Tagine Onion confit, Ras Al Hanout (Ras el hanout is a spice mix with cumin, ginger, tumeric, cinnamon, coriander, pepper, and more. It is often called for in many Moroccan dishes), Seasonal vegetables. Paired with a 2020 Joseph Drouhin Bourgogne, France. My dining experience was beyond my expectations and I'm already contemplating when I will visit again. While I was doing so, Nils brought me a glass of late harvest Hungarian wine. What a great way to finish off a wonderful evening, my first in Minniapolis. I wholeheartedly recommend that you try Fhima's Restaurant if you are anywhere near the area. This is one of those rare finds and unlike most anything you could experience elsewhere. read more

Date night! Moroccan sampler, lamb cigar, lamb shank with couscous, saffron chicken, pistachio baklava. Extremely cool architecture and decor from the 1920's. Everything was outstanding! We will definitely come back for more! read more
