Notable food: Bone in fried chicken is crispy, with a light batter and tastes like it been cooked in some well rendered fat. 10/10 Drinks: the vast bourbon selection makes for fantastic cocktail creations or enjoying neat. I loved that they have New Riff-Rye. I also love a play on the classics the Tequila Old Fashioned (Reposado tequila, coconut aquavit, agave, tiki bitters.) We stopped at Southern Social around 2:40 PM and it was delightfully quiet -- a great time for lunch. The inside is gorgeous: dark grey wood everywhere, very modern, and smells amazing from the moment you walk in. I love that it's in the space that used to be Cuzzy's Bar and Grill; the renovation really makes it feel like a whole new place. I ordered the cornbread skillet and a chicken sandwich (I asked for bacon but didn't get it). The cornbread skillet was excellent -- my partner had cheese curds that were melt-in-your-mouth, i love when places paor curds with the blueberry dip. The chicken sandwich was awesome: quality chicken with a super crunchy breading, and the tomatoes had a little pepper seasoning which made it stand out from your usual sandwich. I also tried their Mac and Cheese. Thats pretty good its dauced just right and i think its pimento cheese. Partner also tried chicken and waffles, which he enjoyed but said it wasn't his favorite -- not really a chicken-and-waffles guy. The sweet potato fries were tasty, though a bit soft rather than crispy. Service was fantastic. Our server was very sweet, attentive, and helpful with suggestions and questions. The bathrooms were clean, and the bar area looked well done. The space is much bigger than the old restaurant, with more booths and seating than I expected. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I would definitely come back to try more off the menu -- everything looks tempting. A wonderful spot in Chaska that's worth visiting. I think I've been to every Southern Social location by now, and this one is wonderful! Plenty of parking available in the dedicated lot outside! The interior is fresh, modern, and cozy. Whether you sit at the bar, on the large patio, or in a booth, there's a spot for you! The servers, bartenders, and even the manager stopped by our table to make sure everything was great during our stay! I can tell them truly care about the guest experience! The food is solid! Casual, yet elevated, takes on southern comfort food! I had the House Chicken Sandwich on my latest visit, which had a juicy piece of chicken and simple, effective toppings, finished off with a perfectly toasted bun! I'd definitely order it again! Visiting some friends in the area and we were so excited to try this new restaurant. There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try. We tried the apricot tamarind smash which was good but the spicy plum was amazing. The deviled egg appetizer looked so unique and I was excited to try it but they were just okay. The cheese curds were delicious. We had to try their "famous" chicken strips and they were good, the Mac and cheese was a perfect side. I also had the surf and turf burger which was an interesting spin on a burger. Service was slow but it was very busy and we weren't much in a hurry anyways. We had such a great experience here! Parking was super easy, which is always a win, and the place had a really welcoming vibe from the moment we walked in. The staff was friendly, quick to greet us, and made the whole visit feel relaxed and enjoyable. We started off with a couple of beers, and they were excellent -- i do wish they had a few more choices for ciders. For food, I decided to try a shrimp po' boy for the very first time, and it did not disappoint. Everything stayed perfectly inside the bun (a small miracle with po' boys!) and the flavor was spot-on. Great food, but very noisy making it hard to carry a conversation. Dinner for 5. We waited for our table at the bar and were well taken care of by the barkeep. I just had beer, but one of my companions had an old fashioned we he pronounced excellent. We all ordered something different, and the food arrived in a reasonable period of time considering the place was packed. My catfish was excellent, the breading was nice and crunchy. I thought the hushpuppies were a little overdone (see photo). There is no carpeting on the floors and no sound deadening panels on the ceiling, so the noise in here was immediately noticeable. It was very hard to carry on a conversation with someone not sitting right next to you (across the table). That is my only beef. Fun spot! read more

For our main dishes, some of my family got chicken strips while the rest of us ordered different fried chicken sandwiches. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it was delicious--definitely messy, but very good. The fries were amazing, and after trying both the regular fries and the sweet potato fries, I preferred the sweet potato ones. My dad ordered a chicken sandwich with bacon, but the bacon was unfortunately not cooked at all, which was our only real issue with the main dishes. Our server would take forever to come back. It took less than 15 minutes from start to finish to get my food and the dining room was pretty full so I thought it would've been longer. The staff were incredibly friendly and I felt lots of fun energy being there, must be because it's a newer restaurant in the area. Ordered the brisket entree and the meat was overcooked and dry, not the way it should be presented. One of our orders of food was entirely missed and had to be made while we waited. This was completely credited on our bill at their insistence. At one point I witnessed one of the cooks either taking selfies or pics / video of the dining room while in the kitchen - could explain why food was so bad! A large lodge like restaurant with parking With soul food items. We ordered the BBQ platter to split that comes either two sides and ordered extra side of collard greens . Greeted pretty quick and got beverages but server had to come back a few times as beer I ordered not available. It took a minute to get order in and good arriving . Deviled spiced eggs were died red and rubbery and were good with spicy filling and Parmesan crisp cracker on them. Five on the tray. But would not order again. $13.95 The BBQ platter was a large half rack tasty ribs, meaty and delicious sauce. Pulled pork and brisket as well on the platter.$43.95 Coleslaw mild and tasty enough for two. Collards tasty and spicy . Server did check back. Total bill $75 for platter, extra side, beer and soda. We had the Fried Green Tomatoes that were also on HH. They were very tasty and had a good level of spice. If they soaked the tomatoes in vinegar it would make them even better. We have been there twice now- first time just sat at the VERY huge bar- on a Saturday night, actually found a spot. Being so busy, we're worried about what type of service we'd get. Well we quickly realized service was going to be fantastic! It was the whole time, had the brisket. OMGOSH. I'm from Texas and OMGOSH!!! Yum! Drink menu was really cool- I love when bartenders are honest and say why they like things and why. Our next time, went in for happy hour / early dinner- decided to sit at a table. Service was just as good! Server was fast, friendly, honest about why she liked things off the menu and no she did suggest the most expensive item (much appreciated) a young family came in with a young one who just wasn't having it. I watch her handle that table with care and compassion. She showed all of them respect and still kept up with her other tables. Guess what- the young one calmed downed! So everyone ended up all good. I'd recommend to give this place a few weeks while they work out the kinks. We've been there twice. The vibe is catered to suburban people who want to feel trendy, but don't want to come to the city. The food took a long time to get and there were small portions and food was flavorful, but not standout. The staff both time have given weird vibes: they didn't know if the patio couch area was seat yourself or not and made us go between the bar and host stand several times. We waited at the bar for 10+ minutes while watching 3-4 bartenders clean, casually chat with each other, and not paying attention to several people who say down at the bar. The seating outdoors has a huge grass lawn. They took out the volleyball courts and the area seems like a waste of space. There aren't many places to eat in Chaska, so it will do if you are in the area. read more

The remodel of the restaurant is stunning. Beautiful indoor and outdoor dining options. Service was amazing even for it being the Grand Opening night and very busy. Everyone was super friendly. The food was delicious! We all 3 tried different chicken sandwiches. If you like hot get the hot mustard chicken sandwich. It was spicy and delicious with a ton of flavor. The truffle fries were worth the upgrade. Nice truffle flavor in every bite. This will be our new regular go to restaurant. read more

I dined with a group of 4 for a casual weeknight meal. We ordered the biscuit basket - delicious, but is a bit pricey for a bread appetizer. Between the 4 of us we ordered the Lemon Ricotta flatbread, Jambalaya, brisket entree and brisket sandwich. Flatbread was fine. I would have preferred a slightly thinner crust, topping combination was refreshing and unique. Jambalaya was spicy and nice mix of flavors. The brisket was dry and not good. Both my husband and son were disappointed. The redeeming factor for the sandwich was it was smothered in BBQ sauce and cheese making the edible. I know this is MN and finding real Southern BBQ can be challenging. Overall, service was great. Would go back 1-2 times to try different items off the menu. read more

Slightly disappointed in the jambalaya though. It was a lot of rice and very few bits of meat. The brown butter cake dessert is worth trying. This place is HUGE! It was packed too. Super happy to be able to walk in and be seated so quickly as we had little ones with. Tons of tables that are family friendly. Service was excellent. Food came out quickly! Fried Green tomatoes were super yummy, had a good kick to them which was a pleasant surprise! Shrimp and grits had goo flavor but was a bit thrown off by the grits having more of a smashed potato texture, all in all still good. So happy Chaska now has this place. read more

The staff other than our server was fantastic, nicholas g was the most disrespectful server i have had in a while, he could not make eye contact, did not check on us and ask us what we needed or if the food was alright.. nothing. on top of his abhorrent customer service skills the food was sub par, the catfish was was not prepared well and the hush puppies weren't edible due to the amount cayenne pepper that overpowered the flavor, and i like spice.. the overall experience was not good at all. needless will not be returning and i urge nicholas g to figure out his ego and maybe get out of food service. read more

We went there with friends (9 of us total and one child) and two adult friends ordered the catfish. They both got sick, were vomiting from it and still felt ill the next day. They said it was very "fishy" tasting, had fat that was not cut off, black colored fish in spots and the preparation was not good at all. The food was okay, but not over the top according to the others in our group. VERY expensive for what you get. Some food was overly seasoned and really spicy (when not noted on the menu) and other food was bland. Service wasn't the greatest either, seemed they had more time to stand around and chit chat rather then attend to customers needs. It took over half an hour to get our drinks and for a waitress to take our order. We did talk to management and they apologized, but I do not believe anything will change until better training is done, chefs learn how to prepare food properly and they lower some of their prices. I know its a new place, but we will not be returning due to our bad experience! We know we can get MUCH better food and service elsewhere for not only a cheaper price; but BETTER quality! read more

We went with friends for dinner. One ordered a brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries. I tried a few of her fries as I love sweet potato fries and have tried them all over the United States. These had an added coating, such as being sprinkled with a light sugar mixture of some kind after frying, that wasn't pleasant---too sweet. Two had the Nashville chicken sandwich and regular fries. It was described as "Minnesota spicy," but was hotter than that and needed a cooling dipping sauce accompaniment. The regular fries were good. I love fried chicken and will seek it out wherever we are. I ordered the bone-in dark meat combo and my sides pick were mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens. All of it was disappointing. First I should say, I asked our server if the coating was the same of all of the chicken offerings---tenders, sandwiches and bone-in and she said she yes. The bone-in chicken was seasoned flour-coated and deep-fried pieces that ends up just being a flat layer of a light coating right against the chicken skin . There wasn't really any nice craggy, textured coating that you could pull off and eat before you hit the chicken skin. The thigh and leg were smalll and didn't yield much meat. So It wasn't the fried chicken experience I was hoping for at all. Some grocery store fried/broasted chicken has more flavor and that craggy, well-textured coating that I prefer. The mashed potatoes had a distinct artificial flavor---not fresh and creamy. I've had plenty of restaurant mashed potatoes and they taste like homemade mashed potatoes, and these tasted like instant potatoes with potato skins included. The collard greens flavor was good, but they were not very tender and needed to be cooked longer; additionally, the pieces were too large and difficult to eat. For appetizers we ordered the hush puppies, cheese curds and a side of pimiento sauce/dip. The hush puppies were dry. The cheese curds were excellent. The pimiento cheese was a bastardization of most versions I've ever eaten. It was more like Cheese-Whiz with some bits of pimiento in it. We split an order of the browned butter cake with a bourbon caramel sauce and a flavored whipped cream---no browned butter flavor, where was the sauce? The whipped cream was in scarcity and it was served with a ring of scantily sweetened partially cubed, partially mashed sweet potatoes around the cake---totally not needed and didn't accent the cake. We don't live in the area, our friends do live in Chaska. We wouldn't go out of our way to dine here again but would meet our friends here again if they suggested it, but would stick to a chicken sandwich or the chicken fingers and French fries.
