Samurai - Hamachi crunch at Samurai Sushi

We have been regular customers of Samurai for over 10 years since we moved to Marin. My wife grew…read moreup in a coastal region of Japan, and one of her family members is a fisherman. Both of us were raised with sushi as part of everyday life, so we are admittedly quite selective when it comes to traditional Japanese food. With that context, I am delighted to give five stars to Samurai. The owner, Brian, not only knows how to make excellent sushi, but truly understands Japanese culture as well. Dining here is not just about eating sushi -- it's about how the food is prepared, presented, and served. That philosophy is clearly shared by his entire staff. The quality of the fish is consistently excellent. We usually order from the "today's specials" written on the whiteboard, and today's bluefin tuna was genuinely toro grade. At many other sushi restaurants, the same quality would easily cost twice as much. Samurai offers exceptional, opportunity-grade sushi at prices that are surprisingly wallet-friendly. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates authentic sushi made with care, skill, and respect for the culture.

Given new enterees to the local Japanese restaurant scene i tend to judge by the thickness & freshness ofthe sashimi & sushi & Samuri still qualifies for top 10 yet has dropped a few knotches below Sushi Ran & new entrant MJ's. I do recommend Samuri!

Show de Carnes - Great food and service . All the meat was hot and cooked to perfection. Felipe the manager was marvelous.

I did not think so until experiencing Show de Carnes, which is the 2nd Brazilian steakhouse I've visited. The salad bar selection had many different and appealing options and was kept well stocked throughout the evening despite all the filled tables in the dining room. We visited with family we had not seen in some time and we never felt rushed by the friendly, attentive servers. Different meats and hot offerings continuously circled the dining room at decent intervals so we had ample opportunity to sample everything. We had not seen the beef rib offered and inquired about it and soon afterwards they made a point to send some over for us to taste. Our party preferred different types of wellness on our meats and everyone was satisfied with the offerings. IF you've heard great things about Brazilian Steakhouses, make sure to visit Show de Carnes! You won't be disappointed.

Funny fact ~ we arrived without reservation and were asked if we would mind if we could please finish our dinner within 2 hours as our table had a booked reservation...we of course agreed and thought it was very professional to let us know instead of turning us away. The food came out hot, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every dish felt thoughtful and well executed. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance: classy and cozy, but still lively and fun. It feels special without feeling stuffy. I want to sit in bar area next time. Such a great overall experience. We'll absolutely be back.

Buckeye Roadhouse has such a classic, cozy vibe that immediately feels special--you can tell it's a place people come back to. First things first: make a reservation. This place is popular for a reason. The food absolutely did not disappoint. I ordered the chicken dish, and it was hands-down my favorite--perfectly cooked, flavorful, and comforting in the best way. The tuna tataki was another standout: fresh, beautifully presented, and light but satisfying. Every plate that hit the table felt thoughtful and well-executed. And then... the s'more pie. Wow. Easily one of the best desserts I've had in a long time and the perfect way to end the meal--rich, nostalgic, and totally indulgent without being overwhelming. Between the atmosphere, the service, and how solid every dish was, this place instantly went on my "come back soon" list. Already planning to return for a date night because it just has that romantic, timeless feel. Highly recommend if you're looking for great food, a polished experience, and a spot that feels like a treat every time.

Otherwise the food here isn't particularly interesting, and wouldn't have been worth writing about except that on a recent and particularly cold, wet evening I ordered a bowl of my ultimate comfort food, clam chowder. What arrived was such a major departure from the expected I had nowhere else to air the case, so now here we are. What arrived at the table was essentially a kind of thickened clam broth. Not flour & water library paste thick. but with the right pasta would have been an ersatz linguine alle vongole (less actual clams). Or adding potatoes would make it the soup of the day which I've been noticing more often on menus is termed "potato chowder". (about this last I'd like to take issue: how can a thickened potato soup rightly be called a chowder given that in traditional chowder recipes the essential ingredient is in fact potatoes (no? ask google). I figure to a marketing kind of mind calling this bland goo a chowder lends a certain cachet that mere "soup" lacks, for whatever that'$ worth) Where was I? oh yeah, i should add that neither potatoes nor pasta were in this clam soup, but to avoid a claim that the order didn't meet the "clam" description, it did include clams. However the clams were all in shell, half-open and floating or submerged in the broth. Not what I expected and definitely messy to fish them out. And of course, it's a chowder so where were the potatoes? But the clams were fresh and with enough sourdough to add the necessary carb load I decided on this cold wet night not to make an issue of this. So if you didn't complain, well you must have had no complaint... except I did. The bowl of clam chowder I was served looked nothing like the customer photo posted somewhere on your yelp page. I'll just stay with salads.
