We have visited 5 times with another couple over the past 1-1/2 years. I am completely exasperated by the consistent lack of quality control. The fish for nigiri is fresh, there is great variety, and the prices are reasonable--that's the good part--and you'd think that would be good enough: it is not. The bad: their wasabi is crap. It is fall apart grainy, NOT HOT AT ALL and there is little of it on the plate. Every visit we had to ask several times to get enough that equals a normal serving. What's with this, honestly? This last time, the sushi rolls had a shockingly scant amount of rice on the outside--I wish I had taken a photo--as if the kitchen had run out of rice and they were stretching it, or they couldn't get it to stick. I have had better rolls from Whole Foods. The salmon served in the bento box suffered the same problem as previous times: undercooked in the middle. Now for the tamago, the rolled egg omelette: it's served absolutely frigid, rendering it flavorless. As it thaws to room temperature, it becomes a spongey bite. It is very sad that they treat this this minor menu item with disregard. Ambiance: For sitting inside in any of the corner tables, they should provide a small cordless table lamp, especially in the winter time, because lighting is so dim it is difficult to read the menu. The patio outside is delightful for fresh air in the summertime, though it's just a bunch of tables. They need plants, string of lights, something. Kudos to the attentive waitstaff. Still, we wont be back. It's not like we haven't given them a chance, multiple times. read more

This is definitely the stop for sushi lovers. You can't go wrong with this place! The sushi is fresh made on the spot and excellent attentiveness from the staff. The service has gone from very annoying to unbearable and terrible. They rush you to order. Coming back every 2 minutes until you put an order in. They rush out mains even if you barely start your appetizers. They constantly stare at you when you eat. Waiting till you are a few bites from finishing a plate then immediately rush over and take the plate without asking if you are done. They constantly hover over tables like vultures. They push ordering desserts when we are still eating the mains. They won't allow us to have a conversation or actually enjoy the food. The service is rude and has no manners. The service is terrific. Food is very good. BUT the place doesn't look clean. Directly outside of the front door are cigarettes, leaves, dirt and lots of debris. The tile entry is decaying cracked and has two old giant old broken down plastic ashtrays mounted on the sidewalk and in disrepair. The back patio plants look like they haven't been watered in years and the tables and chairs are beat up in need a facelift. The interior entrance carpet has seen better days. Bathroom a throwback from 70's. A little elbow grease, a leaf blower, some new paint and carpet would make a world of difference. Sushi Tri has a wide variety of Japanese food and it's all very tasty! I have had the sushi here as well as the bento box and curry bowl, which were all delicious. I really enjoy the miso soup and salad that comes with the bento box and curry bowl. Got the fried banana with vanilla ice cream for dessert and it was so good (serving is more for sharing though)! Service is polite and attentive but hard to get a hold of sometimes. This was a little frustrating since there were a lot of staff present. I've been here several times for both dine-in and takeout, and I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! The food is consistently great. I usually order the salmon teriyaki bento box with mixed tempura to-go. While bento boxes tend to taste similar everywhere, their miso soup stands out -- it's my favorite and always so flavorful. Last night, I dined in with coworkers and we shared a few appetizers: agedashi tofu, spicy edamame, soft shell crab, and both pork and vegetable potstickers. The agedashi tofu was a surprise hit -- I don't usually go for tofu appetizers, but the sauce was delicious. The spicy edamame was also a first for me, and I loved the bold, tasty sauce. The soft shell crab was good, and while both types of potstickers were solid, I preferred the pork. For my entrée, I tried the seafood ramen, but it was just okay -- I kind of wish I had stuck with my usual bento box. For dessert, I had the fried banana with vanilla ice cream. It was massive! We're not from the area and decided to randomly drop into this place for sushi and it was such a pleasant surprise. We ordered chirashi bowls and an order of uni nigiris. The fish in the chirashi don was fresh, delicious, and plated nicely. It also had a great ratio of rice to fish. The chirashi don also came with a side salad and miso soup. Uni nigiri was also pretty good. Staff was attentive and was quick to order and serve us food. Lighting was a bit dim inside for me but that depends on if you want that ambiance or not. I came here with a big work group and they were very accommodating! Our table was ready right away for us. They promptly began taking our order and bringing out appetizers. I really liked the vegetarian pot stickers. I ordered ramen for my main dish, which was okay. It needed some seasoning, which they do give you with your order so that is nice. I would say if you have other choices besides the ramen maybe try that. I heard great things from my co-workers who ordered the curry and the bento boxes were a hit! The amount of food that is given is great. For dessert we all ordered the fried banana, which in hindsight could have been shared between a few of us because it is a pretty good amount for one serving. There was some delay in refilling of water but it was understandable because there were so many of us, it's hard to do everything at once. Yelp hours may not be accurate so check google. It said it was closed for lunch on Sunday but it was open. I got the nabe udon and the server said they were out of the udon soup base, which was weird because they just opened. I opted for the ramen soup, which is pork based. I didn't think the soup base would make a huge difference but it definitely did change the taste overall. I've had my fair share of nabe udons and I wouldn't get this again. It had pieces of salmon in it, which was interesting. I was surprised to see that it doesn't come with shrimp tempura. Luckily they gave me a seasoning bottle because the broth was bland. The sushi was good though. Service could be better. They never checked up on us during our meal. It wasn't busy during lunch hours so some of the staff were just standing around watching the customers eat which made it awkward. One of my family's fave spots in Novato. We've been coming here for years and have seen it evolve a little bit. We believe that it change ownership a couple years ago and seen small changes here and there. Overall the food and quality of fish sourced has still remained at a high level though. Oddly enough, one of my favorites is their chicken wings. You can't go wrong with any of their rolls though. The hot mama, dragon, lover's, Romeo & Juliet, caterpillar, rock N Roll rolls are all my faves. Their Ramen is pretty awesome too. My last visit I tried the Spicy Tuna Taco's and that was pretty fun. When you go there save enough room for the fried banana dessert! We love eating outside. It has a cute little scenic area. However we noticed that it could be cleaned up a little bit. The food is tasty, but this is not authentic sushi. The rice doesn't taste like sushi rice--it tastes like normal rice that was not soaked in vinegar. The service was interesting. It felt like I was rushed to order, but the staff wasn't ready to prepare the food. The servers asked for our order twice and had very disinterested facial expressions. The hamachi carpaccio was drowning is a sauce that hid the flavor of the fish. The sashimi combo platter had 12 pieces of poorly cut fish. The chef obviously does not know how to use a knife. Also, the pieces were way to large -- a waste of money. We ordered the seaweed salad and it also was drowning in some sort of dressing.
